    Verslag in Estadao van de eerste twee uur verhoor van Taylor in Londen, begonnen vanmiddag om 13u30 (lokale tijd), waarna pauze.

    Boodschap: CGU was volgens Taylor nalatig doordat het niet onmiddellijk de informatie onderzocht die hij bezorgde. Oppositievertegenwoordigers Imbahassy (delegatieleider, PSDB) en Efraim Filho (DEM-PB) zijn uiterst tevreden over de informatie die ze verkrijgen ;-)

    Als een duiveltje uit een doosje. CPI voorzitter wilde gisteren Faerman laten aanhouden. Maar Faerman laat nu weten gewoon in Rio te zijn, en er (volgens Folha) al enkele dagen gesprekken te hebben met het plaatselijke OM.

    Kreeg nooit een uitnodiging, maar komt graag langs. Parlementsleden willen hem graag volgende week horen over de relaties met Barusco en de betaling van 300.000$ die hij deed voor de campagne van Rousseff.

    Gesprekken met het OM, zitting bij het CPI, het betekent een stroomversnelling voor het dossier, al was er nooit indicatie van nieuwe feiten (met name niet van Taylor). Maar wellicht mogen we wel verwachten dat dit het schikkingsproces precies versnelt.

    niks bizar of grondig, het is normaal om te contrôleren of meneer de politicus, die waarschijnlijk en lading steekgeld heeft aangenomen wel echt dood is en niet op de Bahama's bijv. lekker anoniem van z'n duiten ligt te genieten, waarbij al die familie en anderen ook profiteren of zullen profiteren. iedereen is omkoopbaar daar , ook de lijkkschouwer en de begrafenisondernemer.nou maar hopen dat de DNA-laborant niet even omgekocht is door de familie, of de opgraver, of de ... :-)

    SBM omkoper gaat getuigen voor Braziliaans parlement
    Julio Faerman, de tussenpersoon van SBM Offshore die op grote schaal ambtenaren en werknemers van het Braziliaanse staatsoliebedrijf Petrobras omkocht, gaat zijn verhaal doen voor een parlementaire onderzoekscommissie in Brazilië.

    SÃO PAULO—With a corruption scandal at state-controlled energy giant Petróleo Brasileiro SA weighing on Brazil’s fragile economy, the government is advancing leniency deals for several private firms linked to the scandal, according to officials.

    Despite objections from prosecutors on the case, Brazil’s comptroller general so far has held deal talks with five of roughly 30 suppliers under investigation for alleged bid-rigging and bribery charges, according to Comptroller General Valdir Moysés Simão.

    The government views U.S.-like leniency agreements as a way to get the nation’s oil and gas industry moving again. For cooperating with authorities, admitting wrongdoing, paying fines and compensating Petrobras and adopting compliance policies to prevent a recurrence, companies that settle administratively wouldn’t face exclusion from public contracts.

    However, the agreements wouldn’t exonerate executives from any criminal charges.
    The goal is to jump-start investment by Petrobras, as the company is widely known, which had accounted for about 10% of total capital spending in the country before skidding almost to a halt because of the scandal and investigation.

    At the moment, Petrobras has stopped doing business with accused suppliers while the investigation continues. The freeze has rippled through the company’s supply chain, prompting bankruptcies, layoffs and ratings downgrades that have worsened the nation’s economic slowdown. Brazil’s economy is projected to shrink by more than 1% this year.

    “The idea is to let [economic] activity continue with the least possible impact on people,” Mr. Simão said in an interview, declining to name the companies involved. He said such deals may be signed in the second half of the year.

    People with knowledge of the matter say the implicated businesses include some of the country’s biggest builders, and all now face a ban from contracts with the government and state companies if found guilty of corruption.

    Four of the suppliers—OAS SA, Galvão Engenharia SA, SOG Óleo e Gás and Engevix—are Brazilian firms accused of participating in a cartel that systematically overcharged the oil giant for nearly a decade, funneling kickbacks to Petrobras insiders and politicians, these people said. A fifth, Dutch conglomerate SBM Offshore NV, allegedly paid bribes to win Petrobras contracts.

    SBM confirmed in a statement last month it was discussing a possible deal. “Discussions with Brazilian authorities are at an early stage and no numbers have been agreed upon,” SBM said.

    SBM has already reached an out-of-court settlement with Dutch authorities stemming from its dealings with Petrobras, agreeing in November to pay them $240 million to settle allegations that it bribed sales agents in Brazil and other countries to obtain contracts.

    A spokeswoman for Engevix also confirmed the company is seeking a leniency agreement. Other firms declined to comment for this article.

    The scandal has rocked Brazil’s government and sunk the approval ratings of President Dilma Rousseff, who hasn’t been implicated and who has denied having any prior knowledge of the scheme.

    Brazil’s solicitor general, Luis Inácio Adams, who oversees the legal side of the agreements, said leniency deals should stop workers and investors from being penalized for others’ corrupt acts.

    Without leniency deals, “it is very likely we will see companies closing their doors,” Mr. Adams said, noting that about 51,000 companies may be, directly or indirectly, affected by Petrobras scandal.

    Prosecutors have criticized the deals because they fear such accords may hinder their criminal investigations. Prosecutors have so far relied heavily on plea bargains to investigate the corruption scandal.

    Firms that sign the agreements don’t necessarily need to provide new evidence to benefit, unlike plea bargain deals with individuals accused of crimes, according to Mr. Adams.

    “It will have a negative effect because it won’t [encourage individuals] to collaborate in the various areas of the investigations,” explained Nicolao Dino, the coordinator for the anticorruption unit at the prosecutor’s office.
    Many Brazilians are also wary of leniency deals. More than a million people took to the streets in March and April to protest against Ms. Rousseff and the ruling Workers’ Party, who many blame for allowing a climate of corruption to flourish at Petrobras.

    Some see leniency deals as just another loophole for rich and powerful wrongdoers, who have long escaped harsh punishment in Brazil.

    “They shouldn’t make agreements just to help businessmen,” said Rodrigo Brasil, a leader in Rio de Janeiro for Revoltados On Line, one of the main groups ahead of the recent protests.
    Leniency agreements are a relatively new legal tool in Brazil, and criminal justice officials are wrestling with how to apply them.

    Adopted as part of an anticorruption law passed in 2013, they were modeled after similar U.S. legislation that allows accused firms to reduce legal penalties and retain public-works contracts in exchange for cooperating with investigators.

    Some authorities maintain that Brazil’s handling of the scandal shows that the country is now able to uncover and fight corruption better than before, but admit there is room for improvement.

    “Leniency agreements in Brazil are a new thing, as well as plea deals,” Justice Minister, José Eduardo Cardozo, said in an interview. “As happens with all new institutions, the authorities need to adjust to them.”

    Ik draag SBMO een warm hart toe, maar ja "U.S.-like settlements "....SBMO heeft al schuld erkend na de deal met het OM voor 250 miljoen terwijl Nederland geen schade heeft geleden. Mede gelet op de operationele gang van zaken vraag ik mij af waar SBMO het geld vandaan gaat halen bij een nieuwe boete, ditmaal uit Brazilië, die de 250 miljoen waarschijnlijk gaat overschrijden.

    beetje oud geneuzel , wel bekend en voortvarend klinken die brasilandoos niet: ja het is nieuw, nou en ? Dan lees je even hoe ze er in de VS mee omgaan en hoe het toegepast is , interesseer je eens een keer als je beseft dat je al een paar jaar achterloopt.
    En mevrouw Dilma heeft achternaam Lebre voortaan, Dilma Lebre (haas).

    In het hele stukkie weer helemaal niks over degenen die geld eisten en hoe verderfelijk dat is ! Er zal eens iemand de waarheid zeggen. Wel, ze jagen tenminste iedereen weg of maken ze failliet dus contractors in de buurt zijn er voortaan niet meer oftewel Petrobras is volledig afhankelijk van die bedrijven anders staan ze compleet stil, en dan maar dreigen.. Wie begon er nu in al die corruptie-verhalen nu steeds geld te eisen ?
    Is er al een anoniem meldpunt voor buitenlandse bedrijven ingesteld
    corruptie ? Toch zijn we al meer dan een jaar verder.
    De braziliaanse overheid wil al het smeergeld terug, compensatie voor Petrobras en nog boetes voor bedrijven: opgeteld dus mooie winst. Het blijkt dat ze nog maar een fractie geïnd hebben.misschien een beetje vaart maken of zo...

    Ik had dit eerder blijkbaar gemist, maar SBM heeft bij het antwoord aan de VEB ook een volledig en gedetailleerd relaas gevoegd van haar interactie met Jonathan Taylor.

    Bijzonder verhelderend voor een goed begrip van de situatie.
    Verplichte lectuur voor wie inspiratie zoekt om zijn werkgever de duvel aan te doen ;-)

    Hoe zou het bij de buren zijn? Artikel in Oglobo:

    Onderstaande alinea uit deze brief bevestigd weer dat SBM continu de waarheid heeft gesproken. Hier wordt al gesproken over de onvolledige opname van het gesprek met Hepkema.

    Als iemand nu nog met droge ogen durft te beweren dat deze man een klokkenluider is en geen chanteur.
    Deze bewering van SBM blijkt een constatering van een feit te zijn. Deze man heeft een poging tot chantage gedaan om 3 miljoen te krijgen, terwijl hij met een goede samen overeengekomen vertrekregeling het bedrijf heeft verlaten. Deze man krijgt m.i. nergens meer een baan. Welke werkgever wil zo iemand nog binnenhalen.

    De strafrechtelijke vervolging in de Lava Jato zaak komt stilaan in zijn eindfaze, met het eindpleidooi van het OM dat topmensen van UTC en Odebrecht aanwijst als de leiding in de misdrijven betreffende Petrobras.

    Onderzoek van de parlementscommissie CPI Petrobra naderde snel einddatum zonder resultaten. Krijgt twee maanden extra, maar durft de belangrijke vragen naar politieke betrokkenheid in het schandaal niet stellen.

    Van de tussenkomst van Faerman wordt niets verwacht, naar het voorbeeld van de bedrijfsleiders die een na een kwamen melden niets te melden te hebben.

    Daar zie ik geen reden voor, de schikking wordt besloten door de CGU. De CPI daarentegen onderzoekt enkel de politieke verantwoordelijkheid.

    Eens Faerman door de CPI gehoord is, is SBM ook daar mogelijk een geklasseerd dossier.

    Mogelijk vernauwt de discussie zich er zelfs tot de schenking van 300.000$ die Faerman aan de regeringspartij PT heeft gedaan, waar het maar de vraag is of SBM hiervan op de hoogte was (Faerman werkte ook voor andere bedrijven). In dat geval wordt het nog meer een intra-Braziliaanse kwestie.

    Barrusco meende in elk geval dat SBM van niets wist, zo verklaarde hij een aantal maanden geleden.
