Eerder 1972..
Goeie.....

Galapagos: Continued Upside In 2018 seekingalpha.com/article/4142030-gala... Hierbij direct het artikel. Summary •In December, "buying the dip" proved a prescient move. •The end of a standstill agreement with Gilead could portend an acquisition. •Filgotinib is an incredibly promising candidate being evaluated in several lucrative indications with RA data due later this year. •While somewhat skeptical of its CF program in the past, I still believe overlooked assets such as GLPG1690 in IPF could spur significant upside if it pans out. •Readers who have done their due diligence should purchase a pilot position in the near term. For those sitting on a significant gain, it could make sense to take partial profits while holding onto the rest. Shares of Belgian biotech Galapagos (GLPG) have risen by nearly 40% since my "buy the dip" piece published in December. Since suggesting the stock was "a long-term buy in biotech" in 2016, it is up 115%. Click to enlarge Figure 1: GLPG daily advanced chart (Source: Finviz Elite) (Disclosure: Contains affiliate link) In the last article, I suggested that readers take advantage of weakness in the biotech space to add to their positions here because the bullish thesis did not appear adversely impacted. Lucrative partnerships with Gilead (GILD) and AbbVie (ABBV) continued as did pivotal studies for respective late-stage programs. I also reminded readers of the large market opportunity in IPF (expected to grow to $2.4 billion by 2022) and initial promising results of GLPG1690. I called the drug candidate a potential gamechanger, with an increase in FVC contrasting sharply to approved IPF treatments which merely slow the decline (caveat for longer follow-up needed and lower number of patients). For a long time, it has been speculated that the company could be acquired by Gilead, and at the end of December, the standstill agreement between the two firms expired. In mid-December, Galapagos announced it had exercised its right to opt-in on the co-promotion of filgotinib in eight European countries if it is approved. 35% of co-promotion efforts will be assumed in certain countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg), while in others (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg), the smaller partner will receive sales. Outside these territories, Galapagos will receive generous tiered royalties (20% to 30%) on global net sales. Keep in mind that the asset is currently the subject of pivotal phase 3 studies in several lucrative conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and in mid-stage trials for a host of others (Sjögrens, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, uveitis, and lupus membranous nephropathy, etc.). As for its cystic fibrosis partnership with AbbVie, a key catalyst to look forward to will be the announcement of patient data involving its investigational triple combination therapy around the middle of the year. Another mid-year catalyst will be the announcement of top line results from the PELICAN phase 2 trial evaluating GLPG2737 in combination with Orkambi in adult CF patients who are homozygous for the Class II F508del mutation. Positive data has already been reported from the FLAMINGO phase 2 trial in CF patients with two copies of the Class II F508del mutation (who hadn't been treated with Orkambi or tezacaftor-ivacaftor for four weeks prior to receiving GLPG2222). Another program that hasn't received much attention is GLPG1972, a first-in-class and potentially disease-modifying candidate being evaluated in osteoarthritis patients. Partnered with Servier, positive early data was announced from a phase 1b study in OA patients (n=30) aged 50 to 75 years in the United States. Importantly, dose-dependent reductions of ARGS neoepitope (important cartilage breakdown biomarker) were observed in patients who received the study drug versus those receiving placebo. Placebo (n=6) Low dose (n=8) Medium dose (n=8) High dose (n=8) Average % reduction in ARGS neoepitope compared to baseline, Day 29, in % (mean ±se) -3.64 (±5.95) 38.43 (±2.91) 44.93 (±4.46) 50.43 (±4.47) Figure 2: Improvement in key secondary endpoint (Source: Corporate Press Release) A global mid-stage program is planned for initiation later in the year. Considering that peak sales estimates for filgotinib are in excess of €4 billion, it's a decent assumption that the stock continues to be relatively undervalued. The product candidate is attractive due to its strong safety profile, rapid (and sustained) efficacy and convenience. I look forward to UC and RA data later this year. In its recent presentation the company highlights the lofty goal of developing an IPF franchise - while higher risk, I don't believe this indication is being factored into the current stock price and positive results could lead to a marked revaluation upwards. Keep in mind that the IPF market is expected to grow to $5 billion by 2025, while the usual caveats should be considered (low number of patients and short follow-up) GLPG1690 has shown real signs of efficacy (disease stabilization and biomarker reduction). For the third quarter, the company reported cash and equivalents of €1,220 million while revenues more than doubled to €106.4 million. Operating loss rose by around a quarter to €62.6 million. Management guided for full-year cash burn of €135 to €155 million. Galapagos is a Buy.
