In 2018 stond het aandeel even rond €29.
SUSTAINABLE FUTURE Firms line up ‘green’ ammonia for fertilizer and future fuel PUBLISHED MON, AUG 16 202110:22 AM EDT Anmar Frangoul SHARE Share Article via Facebook Share Article via Twitter Share Article via LinkedIn Share Article via Email KEY POINTS A number of firms are attempting to reduce the environmental effects of ammonia production. In the latest development, Statkraft, Aker Clean Hydrogen and fertilizer specialist Yara have launched a company focused on the production of “green” ammonia. In this article BP.-GB -7.90 (-2.59%) ENGI-FR +0.04 (+0.30%) YAR-NO +4.80 (+1.06%) cstar55 | E+ | Getty Images As society attempts to find ways to reduce its environmental footprint, decarbonizing a broad range of sectors and industrial processes will be crucial in the years ahead. Time is of the essence when it comes to finding new solutions and technologies to do this, if the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s latest findings are anything to go by. Published last week, its report warned that limiting global warming to close to 1.5 degrees Celsius or even 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels would “be beyond reach” in the next two decades without immediate, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. ADVERTENTIE Against this sobering backdrop a number of firms are attempting to reduce the environmental effects of ammonia production, which is responsible approximately 1.8% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions, according to a policy briefing from The Royal Society. On Monday, for instance, three Norwegian firms – energy powerhouse Statkraft, Aker Clean Hydrogen and fertilizer specialist Yara – launched a company focused on the production of so-called “green” ammonia. The new company, called HEGRA, is jointly owned by the three businesses. According to Statkraft, which is itself owned by the Norwegian state, HEGRA will focus on electrifying and decarbonizing an ammonia plant located in Herøya, Norway. The broad idea behind the initiative is that it will use renewable energy to generate ammonia at scale. The ammonia would then be used to produce carbon-free fertilizer. Statkraft also described green ammonia as “a promising zero-emission fuel for the maritime sector.” Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe” on Monday morning, Yara CEO Svein Tore Holsether stressed the importance of developing big-picture solutions. “The technology is there, but it’s also about turning it into a product,” he said. “And the nice thing about ammonia production and fertilizer production is that you have an existing infrastructure already.” “By converting part of that to renewable energy using hydropower, as we’re talking about here in Norway, we can produce a renewable fertilizer product and supply that to the farmers at scale, rather quickly.” In terms of a timeline, Holsether indicated it would take five to seven years to get the project up and running.

Erdgas NYMEX Rolling 3,96158 $ +2,75% +0,1062 $

Argus Media News Argus Media Home News News article Indian fertilizer suppliers' earnings under pressure Published date: 16 August 2021 Share: High import prices and raw material costs have squeezed Indian fertilizer producer margins, with second-quarter earnings falling. National Fertilizers (NFL), India's second-largest supplier, posted a loss of 43.7mn rupees ($590,000) for the second quarter, down from a profit of Rs1.1bn a year earlier. Revenue fell to Rs26.3bn, down by Rs2bn from the same quarter last year, pressured by a drop in sales. NFL's trading revenue, which represent the firm's sales of imported products, fell to Rs3.73bn, from Rs6.06bn. Operating income from sales of NFL's own products slipped to a loss of Rs364.7mn, from Rs1.87bn a year earlier. Trading income fell by 43pc to Rs430.4mn. Meanwhile, second-quarter fertilizer revenue at Gujarat State Fertilizers dropped to Rs12.68bn from Rs14.09bn a year earlier. Earnings from the firm's fertilizer division fell by 6.5pc to Rs853.1mn. And Rashtriya Fertilizers and Chemicals increased fertilizer revenue to Rs16.8bn, from Rs14.3bn. But fertilizer earnings slipped to Rs272.4mn, from Rs627.2mn a year earlier. Indian firms suffer on high global prices The weaker earnings from major Indian suppliers in the last quarter highlight the rise in international fertilizer prices and the according squeeze to margins in one of the world's largest import markets. Levels have jumped across the fertilizer complex, with the Argus Nitrogen, DAP and standard MOP indexes up by 76pc, 50pc and 77pc, respectively, from the start of the year to 1 July (see chart). Indian distributors have been not only hit by higher import prices, but weaker demand at the farmer level, compared with last year's surge in offtake. Total sales of fertilizers — urea, DAP, MOP, NPKs and SSP — were down by 4.6pc to 34.4mn t in January-July, as weaker monsoon rainfall levels have weighed on farmer purchases. Rainfall is down by 9pc on the long-term average at this point in the season since the start of June, today's latest data show. The softer earnings among Indian suppliers last quarter are in stark contrast to the boom in earnings among the world's largest fertilizer producers as prices have surged. Majors Yara and Phosagro are both planning additional dividend payouts, Israel's ICL has reported record phosphates earnings for the period, with Jordan's JPMC and German potash producer K+S similarly reporting strong results.
BHP approves investment in Jansen Stage 1 potash project 17 August 2021, 05:00 PM BHP has today approved US$5.7 billion (C$7.5 billion) in capital expenditure for the Jansen Stage 1 (Jansen S1) potash project in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. BHP Chief Executive Officer, Mike Henry, said Jansen is aligned with BHP’s strategy of growing our exposure to future facing commodities in world class assets, which are large, low cost and expandable. “This is an important milestone for BHP and an investment in a new commodity that we believe will create value for shareholders for generations,” Mr Henry said. Jansen is located in the world’s best potash basin and is expected to operate up to 100 years. Potash provides BHP with increased leverage to key global mega-trends, including rising population, changing diets, decarbonisation and improving environmental stewardship. “In addition to its merits as a stand-alone project, Jansen also brings with it a series of high returning growth options in an attractive investment jurisdiction. In developing the Jansen project, BHP has had ongoing positive engagement and collaboration with First Nations and local communities, and with the provincial and federal governments. Jansen is designed with a focus on sustainability, including being designed for low GHG emissions and low water consumption.” Mr Henry added. Jansen S1 is expected to produce approximately 4.35 million tonnes of potash per annum (footnote 1), and has a basin position with the potential for further expansions (subject to studies and approvals). First ore is targeted in the 2027 calendar year, with construction expected to take approximately six years, followed by a ramp up period of two years. Jansen S1 includes the design, engineering and construction of an underground potash mine and surface infrastructure including a processing facility, a product storage building, and a continuous automated rail loading system. Jansen S1 product will be shipped to export markets through Westshore, in Delta, British Columbia and the project includes funding for the required port infrastructure. We anticipate that demand growth will progressively absorb the excess capacity currently present in the industry, with opportunity for new supply expected by the late 2020s or early 2030s. That is broadly aligned with the expected timing of first production from Jansen. Beyond the 2020s, the industry’s long run trend prices are expected to be determined by Canadian greenfield solution mines. In addition to consuming more energy and water than conventional mines like Jansen, solution mines tend to have higher operating costs and higher sustaining capital requirements. At consensus prices (footnote 2), the go-forward investment on Jansen is expected to generate an internal rate of return of 12 to 14 per cent, an expected payback period of seven years from first production and an underlying EBITDA margin of approximately 70 per cent given its expected first quartile cost position. We have previously acknowledged the US$4.5 billion (pre-tax) of capital invested to date has resulted in a significant initial outlay and that our approach would be different if considering the project again today. The investment to date includes construction of the shafts and associated infrastructure (US$2.97 billion (footnote 3) scope of work), as well as engineering and procurement activities, and preparation works related to Jansen S1 underground infrastructure. The construction of two shafts and associated infrastructure at the site is 93 per cent complete and expected to be completed in the 2022 calendar year. To date approximately 50 per cent of all engineering required for Jansen S1 has been completed, significantly de-risking the project. If the investment to date were to be included, the full cycle project would yield a much lower internal rate of return. As part of our 2021 financial results, we have assessed the carrying value of the existing Potash asset base as at 30 June 2021 and have recognised a pre-tax impairment charge of US$1.3 billion (US$2.1 billion after tax). The impairment charge against our Potash assets reflects an analysis of recent market perspectives and the value that we would now expect a market participant to attribute to our investments to date. Footnotes 1. The Jansen S1 project will convert approximately 20% of the 5.23 billion tonnes Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources into Ore Reserve (see Appendix 1). 2. Price assumptions reflect average of CRU and Argus prices. Average 2027–2037: US$341/t CRU and US$292/t Argus. IRR = Expected Jansen Stage 1 IRR across approximately 100 year mine life. Jansen Stage 1 IRR is post[1]tax, nominal and reflects the range of the average CRU and Argus prices, and excludes expenditure on shafts and essential services consistent with previous disclosure. 3. The US$2.97 billion current scope of work for Jansen is part of approximately US$4.5 billion that has been invested on the project since 2008 ahead of the sanction decision on Jansen Stage 1. Approximately US$220 million of the US$2.97 billion approved for the current scope of work, expected to be completed in the 2022 calendar year, is not yet spent. Sustaining capital for Jansen Stage 1 is expected to be approximately US$15/t (real) long term average +/- 20% in any given year.
