    to gain access to RUCONEST® via Medicines Access Program

    Leiden, the Netherlands and LUXEMBOURG – 26 Sept 2017 – Pharming Group N.V in association with HAEi, the international umbrella organization for the world’s Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) patient groups, announce the appointment of Inceptua Medicines Access as their new distribution partner for the “HAEi Global Access Program” (HAEi GAP) enabling patients in all countries where Pharming’s product RUCONEST® is not commercially available to gain access to the drug through an ethical and regulatory compliant mechanism. It is the only known program of this type which has been initiated through a patient group.

    The program is the only Global Access Program in hereditary angioedema (HAE), a very rare and potentially life-threatening genetic condition that occurs in about 1 in 10,000 (1) to 1 in 50,000 people (2) HAE symptoms include attacks of swelling in various body parts, including the hands, feet, face, intestinal walls and airway. Swelling in the airway is particularly dangerous and can lead to death by asphyxiation. (2) There is currently no cure for HAE, but certain treatments exist to prevent and ease attacks. These treatments are not licensed or available in all countries worldwide, leaving patients unable to prepare for and treat attacks.

    RUCONEST® is the first treatment to be made available through the HAEi GAP program in countries where it is not commercially available. RUCONEST® is a recombinant human C1- inhibitor, approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) (3,4)

    Physicians wishing to request RUCONEST® for their patients through the HAEi GAP program should contact HAEiGAP@inceptua.com or alternatively ring +44 20 3910 7670. Please note that direct patient inquiries cannot be handled.

    Ruconest is een middel dat helpt tegen de genetische aandoening angio-oedeem (HAE) waardoor onder meer acuut zwellingen kunnen ontstaan. Er is momenteel geen remedie tegen HAE maar bepaalde behandelingen voorkomen en verzachten de problemen die door HAE kunnen optreden

    Leiden en Luxemburg – 26 september 2017 - Pharming Group N.V maakt samen met HAEi, de internationale koepelorganisatie voor de erfelijk angio-oedeem patiëntenverenigingen wereldwijd, de aanstelling bekend van Inceptua Medicines Access als hun nieuwe distributiepartner voor het “HAEi Global Access Program”. Dit programma stelt patiënten in alle landen waar Pharmings product RUCONEST® niet verkrijgbaar is, toch in staat toegang tot de therapie te verkrijgen via een ethisch en regulatoir compliant systeem. Het programma is het enige in haar soort dat is geïnitieerd door een patiëntenorganisatie.


    Het programma is het enige ‘Global Access Program’ voor erfelijk angio-oedeem, een zeer zeldzame en potentieel levensbedreigende genetische aandoening die voorkomt bij 1 op de 10.000 tot 1 op de 50.000 mensen. Tot de symptomen behoren aanvallen van zwellingen over delen van het lichaam, waaronder handen, voeten, het gezicht, darmwanden en de luchtwegen. Vooral zwelling in de luchtwegen is gevaarlijk en kan leiden tot overlijden door asfyxie (verstikking). Er bestaat geen geneesmiddel voor erfelijk angio-oedeem, maar er zijn bepaalde behandelingen ter preventie en/of verlichting van de aanvallen.

    RUCONEST® vormt de eerste behandeling die via het HAEi GAP programma ter beschikking wordt gesteld in landen waar het niet verkrijgbaar is. RUCONEST® is een recombinante vorm van een humane C1 esterase remmer, goedgekeurd door de Europese Medicines Agency (AMA) en de US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voor de behandeling van aanvallen van erfelijk angio-oedeem (HAE).

    “HAEi is in het leven geroepen om HAE patiënten toegang te bieden tot therapieën die de kwaliteit van hun leven verbetert en potentieel levensreddend zijn ingeval van een aanval rond de keel,” zegt Henrik Balle Boysen, algemeen directeur van HAEi. “Met behulp van dit samenwerkingsverband met Pharming Group N.V. en Inceptua Medicines Access, kunnen artsen die anders geen toegang tot moderne HAE therapieën hebben, toch direct RUCONEST® voor hun patiënten aanvragen.”
