    A Swedish researcher says he has significantly improved the accuracy and precision of radar sensors for navigation.
    And the extent of the upgrade is such that it is being claimed that the sensors can be used in autonomous vehicles (AVs) to deliver safe driving whatever the weather.
    The research work was carried out at Örebro University by Daniel Adolfsson, a doctoral student in computer science, who said: “The advantage with radar is that it works in all weather conditions and can ‘see’ through smoke and dust.”

    The Hyundai i10, one of the most popular city cars on the roads, might receive a major overhaul for its next generation. The new model will most likely feature a sportier design, with sharper lines and more aggressive styling. The i30 will definitely look more athletic than the i20, and we are hoping to see a complete redesign of the next-gen i30. A more dynamic exterior design, with a lower and wider stance. The interior might be more spacious, with improved materials and an updated infotainment system. The new i30 might also feature advanced safety features, such as automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

    Hyundai KONA Specificaties in het Nederlands.

    De nieuwe KONA tilt connectiviteit naar een hoger niveau dankzij toekomstige 'over-the-air' (OTA) software-updates. Daarmee kan de bestuurder de kaarten- en mediasoftware in de KONA updaten zonder daarvoor naar de dealer te hoeven gaan. De bestuurder ontvangt de nieuwste verbeteringen zodra deze beschikbaar zijn. De nieuwe KONA is ook de eerste Hyundai met de nieuwe Connected Car Navigation Cockpit ccNC, wat niet alleen de OTA-software-updates mogelijk maakt, maar ook graphics biedt en een 'samenspel' tussen de displays.

    Hyundai Hyundai Smart Sense
    De nieuwe KONA is uitgerust met de nieuwste versie van Hyundai Smart Sense, de rijassistentiesystemen (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems ofwel ADAS) die zorgen voor veiligheid. Zo houdt Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) op de snelweg de vooraf ingestelde afstand tot de voorligger en de snelheid aan en blijft de auto, ook in bochten, in het midden van de rijstrook. Wanneer een voertuig direct naast de KONA te dichtbij komt, past HDA 2 de positie van de KONA op de weg daarop aan om het risico van een aanrijding te beperken.

    Rijassistentiesystemen en veiligheidsfuncties:

    Surround View Monitor (SVM) biedt de bestuurder 360 graden zicht rond de auto tijdens het in- en uitparkeren.
    Driver Status Monitor (DSM) gebruikt de camera van de auto om gezichtsuitdrukkingen van de bestuurder te analyseren om, in geval van onvoorzichtig handelen, te waarschuwen of indien nodig in te grijpen.
    Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM) geeft via camerabeelden de situatie in de dode hoek weer als de bestuurder van rijstrook wil wisselen.
    Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) helpt de bestuurder bij het in- en uitparkeren.
    Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) 2.0 helpt een aanrijding met een obstakel vóór de auto te voorkomen, ook bij het oversteken van kruisingen en het doorlopend wisselen van rijstrook.
    Sensor Fusion met radar voor.
    Smart Cruise Control (SCC) / Navigation-based SCC (NSCC).
    Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA).
    Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).
    Lane Following Assist (LFA).
    Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA, vereist MSLA).
    Driver Attention Warning (DAW).
    High Beam Assist (HBA).

    De KONA Mild-Hybrid en KONA Hybrid zullen als eerste gelanceerd worden, de KONA Electric volgt in een later stadium.

    Over het onderwerp:
    Het maakt niet uit of en hoe we weten hoeveel huidige automobilisten blij zullen zijn met de ook door mij bedachte en Europees geaccepteerde RDS-TMC functies. Van belang is hoe ze doorwerkten.
    Jullie kijken nooit achter de schermen bij TomTom. Voor jullie zijn termen als Datex of Location Referencing slechts kreten. Voor mij zijn het kinderen.

    Als ik nu nog eigendomsrechten op door TT ingevoerde codes en technieken in zou kunnen voeren, was ik stinkend rijk geweest en was TT al lang tot dividend betaling over gegaan.

    Mapbox, een toonaangevend bedrijf op het gebied van kaart- en locatieplatforms dat een nieuwe generatie locatiegebaseerde applicaties aanstuurt, heeft een samenwerking aangekondigd met Toyota Motor Europe om cloudnavigatie mogelijk te maken op basis van Mapbox Dash. Het product werd voor het eerst geïnstalleerd in de Europese modellen Yaris, Yaris Cross en Aygo X. Het voorziet Toyota-klanten van steeds veranderende informatie om het reizen van chauffeurs tijdefficiënter, probleemloos en veiliger te maken. Naast navigatie op rijstrookniveau kunnen bestuurders profiteren van het zoeken naar parkeerplaatsen, inclusief snelheidslimieten, flitspaalwaarschuwingen en real-time beschikbaarheid.
    In komende proeven kunnen Toyota-bestuurders via het infotainmentsysteem betalen voor parkeren en tanken terwijl ze in het voertuig zitten.
    Mapbox Dash is een Software as a Service (SaaS)-product dat de mogelijkheden van het Mapbox-platform integreert, zoals navigatie, zoeken, visualisatie en verkeersgegevens. Dankzij het SaaS-formaat kunnen autofabrikanten gebruikmaken van de aanpasbaarheid van het Mapbox-platform en tegelijkertijd de behoefte aan ontwikkelingsbronnen minimaliseren. Het product is ook gebouwd op het cloudgebaseerde Mapbox-platform, waardoor autofabrikanten complexe integraties in voertuigen kunnen starten in slechts 3-6 maanden in plaats van de gebruikelijke 12-36 maanden.
    In plaats van gegevens en gebruikersinterfaces (UI's) die met het voertuig verouderen, beschikken klanten die een voertuig van Toyota Motor Europe met Mapbox Dash kopen altijd over de meest actuele gegevens uit de cloud. Voertuigen kunnen ook functie-updates ontvangen om de gebruikerservaring (UX) gedurende hun hele levensduur continu te optimaliseren. Mapbox Dash verbetert de tevredenheid van de bestuurder door een voertuigspecifieke Toyota-merkervaring mogelijk te maken.

    March 7 -- NavInfo, a Chinese supplier of digital mapping services, said its self-driving map data business has received an order from Great Wall Motor.

    NavInfo will provide map data and engine service for some of GWM's vehicles mass-produced between this year and 2027 to make them fully autonomous on city streets, the Beijing-based firm announced yesterday.

    The contract’s value will depend on the number of cars privately owned GWM sells in the five-year period, NavInfo noted, without disclosing further details.

    GWM sold almost 1.7 million vehicles last year, 86 percent of which were smart units, according to the Baoding-based automaker.

    Founded in 2002, NavInfo was the first firm in China to receive a e-map navigation license and has focused on developing its high-precision mapping business since 2015. Its clients include Chinese joint ventures of BMW, Volkswagen, and Ford Motor
