    Veelal horen ze via Oekraïense (online) bronnen dat hun geliefden gevangengenomen zijn of - in het slechtste geval - omgekomen. Dat blijkt onder meer uit het verhaal van Akimova Sofia Olegovna. Zij vernam voor het laatst iets van haar vriend Anatoly op 23 februari. Hij vertelde haar toen dat zijn eenheid de opdracht had gekregen om in de aanval te gaan. In april kwam echter het nieuws dat hij was omgekomen aan thermische brandwonden over 90 procent of meer van zijn lichaam. Alleen zijn benen kwamen terug.

    Anatoly bleek begin maart al overleden te zijn in Hostomel bij Kiev. Tot april had het leger nochtans volgehouden dat hij gezond en wel was. Eind maart volgde opnieuw een koude douche toen Sofia haar vriend op Oekraïense sites opeens herkende als krijgsgevangene. “Geen idee wie we begraven hebben", schrijft ze.
    Lang niet alle stoffelijke resten komen overigens terug, zo blijkt uit de mails van het Russische parket. De moeder van Argimbaev R.S. (36) had voor het laatst contact met haar zoon op 21 maart. Een week later vernam ze van zijn commandant dat hij was omgekomen. “Volgens collega’s werd zijn gevechtsvoertuig opgeblazen. Zijn lichaam is nooit geborgen. Het bleef achter in het wrak van zijn brandende wagen. Breng zijn stoffelijke resten toch naar huis, zodat ze op een menselijke manier begraven kunnen worden”, smeekt ze.

    Burgers
    Russische burgers in de bezette gebieden in Oekraïne klagen bij het parket dan weer over “wreedheden en plunderingen” van de eigen soldaten. Zo vertelt een vrouw uit Loehansk dat het huis van haar overleden moeder leeggeroofd werd - “net als vele huizen in het dorp, een school, een kleuterschool, een apotheek en drie winkels” - en dat een groep van een twintigtal soldaten twee huizen bezette, waaronder dat van haar.
    “Ze hebben twee weken in mijn huis gewoond en alles leeggehaald”, schrijft Yulia Viktorovna Puntus. “Het waren duidelijk professionals, want ze ontzagen niets of niemand. Ze beukten deuren in en namen alles mee: wagens, brandstof, graan, aardappelen, wortelen en televisies. Wie protesteerde, werd bedreigd.”

    Vladimir Putin’s war leaves MILLIONS jobless as evil despot covers up economic & frontline chaos

    VLADIMIR Putin is desperately scrambling to cover up the extent of the economic damage caused by western sanctions.

    Putin has lashed out after World leaders banded together in fury at the war in Ukraine by imposing brutal sanctions - with Russia now weaponizing its energy supplies in revenge at the West's sanctions.

    However, a new report published by the Kyiv School of Economics suggests four MILLION people have been made jobless due to the war in Ukraine.

    As reported by the Express, the new research states: “IMF forecasts unemployment in the Russian Federation (RF) to reach 9.3 per cent in 2022, which would equal around 3.8 million of additional unemployed persons.

    “According to estimates of the Russian Center for Strategic Research, by the end of 2022 there will be a significant increase in unemployment in 63 percent of regions in Russia, in 16 regions unemployment will increase relative to the average level for Jan-Mar 2022 by 2 or more times, in 53 regions - 1.5 times or more. The top five industries impacted by the number of expected jobs cut include – transport and logistics, automotive, wholesale and e-commerce, timber industry and wood products.”

    The think tank’s report also suggests Putin is well aware of the perilous situation his country is now in economically and is taking steps to prevent it from becoming common knowledge.

    The authors explain: “The Russian banking sector is becoming increasingly non-transparent. In April 22, Russian banks were allowed not to disclose interim and annual financial statements, until September 22.

    “Also, CBR won’t publish reports of banks until October 1, 2022, while the CBR has also stopped publishing the SPFS participant list. In addition, on May 1, Putin signed a law, forbidding banks to share banking secrecy with ‘unfriendly’ countries.”

    Britain says sanctions also impact Russia's defense sector

    The European Union's full ban on Russian coal imports kicked in on Thursday at a time when British defense intelligence said that Western sanctions were increasingly having an impact, even on Russia's defense exports.

    Britain said that Moscow was already strained by the need to produce armored fighting vehicles for its troops in Ukraine and hence is highly unlikely to be capable of fulfilling some export orders, in a sector it has long taken pride in.

    The British defense intelligence update, highlighting the increasing effect of Western sanctions, dovetails with Western belief that the series of measures they imposed on the Kremlin since the Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine are increasingly having an impact on the Russian economy.

    The update said that because of the war and sanctions, Russia's military-industrial capacity is now under significant strain, and the credibility of many of its weapon systems has been undermined by their association with Russian forces' poor performance.

    Russian military credibility came under more pressure on Wednesday when Ukraine said nine Russian warplanes were destroyed in a string of explosions at an air base in Russian-controlled Crimea that appeared to be the result of a Ukrainian attack.

    Russia denied any aircraft were damaged in the blasts or that any attack took place. But satellite photos clearly showed at least seven fighter planes at the base had been blown up and others probably damaged.

    British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace dismissed Russian explanations of the blasts, including a wayward cigarette butt, as excuses.

    "When you just look at the footage of two simultaneous explosions not quite next to each other, and some of the reported damage even by the Russian authorities, I think it's clear that that's not something that happens by someone dropping a cigarette", Wallace said

    Audio Reveals Russian Army Commander Orders Soldiers To Shoot Civilians: 'Kill Everyone!'

    An audio recording released by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) on Wednesday captured a Russian army commander ordering his troops to shoot and kill civilians on sight.

    The order was given by Russian commander Anton Struev in the early hours of March 22, during the occupation of the capital city of Kyiv. Struev commanded the 15th "Peacekeeping" Brigade's Motor Rifle Company of the 2nd Guards Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation before he was captured by the Ukrainian army.

    "Kill everyone there, f**k! If there are civilians – throw them all, bitch, under the bus!" Struev said in a recording of an intercepted phone call released by the SSU.

    The Security Service noted that Struev's subordinate shot a local resident who happened to be near their position in the Brovary district. The resident was shot in the back but survived the incident despite being left to die. The victim is expected to testify against Struev in an international court.

    Struev was charged with cruelty to the civilian population in May on suspicion of his cruel treatment of Ukrainian civilians. He was also accused of giving subordinates orders to inflict cruel treatment on the civilian population as well as personally capturing unarmed civilians and brutally interrogating them through torture.

    Putin is running out of excuses as Ukraine expands the war to Crimea

    Ukraine appears to have struck deep inside Russian-occupied Crimea for the first time on August 9 with an audacious attack on a heavily defended military base. The explosions at western Crimea’s Saki airbase rattled nerves in Moscow and sparked panic throughout the Russian-occupied Ukrainian peninsula, with traffic jams reported on routes leading to the Crimean Bridge as Russian holidaymakers scrambled to cut short their vacations.

    The exact nature of the suspected Ukrainian attack is still unclear. The Washington Post cited unnamed Ukrainian officials calling it a Special Forces operation. Other international media reports confirmed Ukrainian responsibility without providing specific details. In the hours following the blasts, much of the debate among military analysts centered on whether the damage was caused by missiles, airstrikes, or combat drones. Satellite images have since revealed large-scale destruction at the site.

    The impact of this collapse in military prestige is already becoming apparent in Moscow’s old imperial backyard. Kazakhstan is now in open confrontation with the Kremlin and Azerbaijan no longer feels constrained by the presence of Russian peacekeepers in the South Caucasus. Tiny Lithuania recently defied Russia for weeks over the transit of goods to Kaliningrad, while even loyal Belarus has so far resisted intense Kremlin pressure to join the invasion of Ukraine.

    Unless Russia is able to transform its military fortunes in Ukraine, these negative trends will only intensify. More countries will lose their fear of the toothless Russian bear, while potential allies will begin to question the value of such a geopolitically and militarily compromised partner.     Already resigned to an extended period of isolation from the Western world, Russia may find itself increasingly excluded from the top table of world affairs and reduced to a junior role in its unequal partnership with China.

    Putin’s perilous predicament means we could now be facing one of the most dangerous periods in modern European history as the Russo-Ukrainian War enters a potentially decisive phase. In the coming months, we should expect everything from desperate offensives and escalating terror tactics to energy cut-offs and nuclear blackmail. Nevertheless, as long as Ukraine’s Western allies can remain united in their support for the country, there is good reason to believe these efforts will ultimately fail. Putin’s criminal invasion has exposed the diminished reality behind the myth of Russian military might. Farcical talk of “goodwill gestures” and “accidental fires” merely serves to underline the point.

    Lees de aangereikte verhalen van ouders en geliefden over gesneuvelde Russische soldaten.
    Dan zwenkt mijn gedachte naar Ysselsteyn bij Venray en daar stond ik eens voor de uitgestrekte Duitse soldatenbegraafplaats waar meer dan 31.700 veelal jonge mannen liggen(rusten).
    Een invalide hoogbejaarde vrouw in een rolstoel vergezeld van een jonge dame de eerste voorovergebogen voor het graf van haar geliefde en gesneuveld in de slag bij de Schelde (Zeeland).
    Urenlang en viermaal per jaar bezocht deze vrouw haar geliefde en had daarna nooit meer een andere man willen hebben zei de jonge dame mij.
    Tragisch dat wel maar na een korte wandeling met deze dame zei ik desondanks : hij heeft zijn leven gegeven terwijl het doel onbetwist meer dan verkeerd was.
    Ze nam het mij niet kwalijk en knikte instemmend.

    Dat zullen de ouders en geliefden van deze gesneuvelde Russische soldaten ondanks het verdriet later eens ontdekken:
    voor meer dan het verkeerde doel het leven gegeven.

    Het personeel dat aan de slag is bij een van de vele Russische staatstelevisiezenders, weet heel goed waar het mee bezig is en dat de retoriek die het verkondigt, niet strookt met de werkelijkheid. Dat heeft het hoofd van een grote Russische staatstelevisiezender (anoniem) onthuld aan de onafhankelijke Russische nieuwssite ‘The Insider’
    Amper 10 procent van de medewerkers zou de oorlog in Oekraïne echt steunen en effectief geloven dat Rusland strijd voert tegen de nazi’s. De rest zou meedoen “om niet in de problemen te komen”
    De overgrote meerderheid (70 procent) doet gewoon zijn werk en wil met rust gelaten worden. “Zij denken er niet bij na en willen gewoon betaald worden op het einde van de maand. Een minderheid (20 procent) is sterk gekant tegen wat er in Oekraïne gebeurt, maar ziet geen andere uitweg dan meedoen”, klinkt het. “De meesten zijn dus geen aanhangers van de propaganda, maar doen mee uit zelfbehoud.”

    Als er een land zou zijn dat journalisten asiel zou bieden, zou er een grote stroom van medewerkers van de staatstelevisie naar het buitenland vluchten, maakt hij zich sterk. Er blijken wel voorwaarden te zijn, zoals de nodige visa en hulp, “goede toekomstperspectieven en werk”.
