RWE Orders Two 100-Megawatt Electrolysis Plants for GET H2 Strategic Research Institute Published on : 7 Feb, 2023, 3:53 am RWE plans to commission the first of the two plants in 2024 on the site of its gas-fired power plant in Lingen. The second plant is scheduled to start operating one year later. The two electrolysers are part of RWE’s efforts to build a total of 300 MW of electrolyser capacity in Lingen by 2026 as part of GET H2. Using electricity from renewable sources, the electrolysers will produce green hydrogen for industrial customers. As production of electrolyser stack modules of this size takes several months, they must be ordered well in advance. GET H2 is one of RWE’s four hydrogen projects that have been shortlisted for funding for Important Projects of Common European Interest since May 2021. Approval by the EU Commission under state aid law is pending for funding by the German government and the state of Lower Saxony. Nevertheless, RWE has now placed the order to ensure that the commissioning dates in 2024 and 2025 are still achievable in the event of approval under state aid law. These deadlines would be impossible to meet if there were further delay. This does not yet imply a final investment decision. It is therefore all the more important for RWE to receive the notification soon. The aim of the GET H2 joint initiative with national and European partners is to create the necessary critical mass to build a supra-regional hydrogen infrastructure and develop a hydrogen market in Europe.

Draadje: www.iex.nl/Forum/Topic/1311236/Amerik... SunHydrogen Unveils Larger Version of the World’s First-Ever Nanoparticle-Based Green Hydrogen Generator The system is designed to be economical at mass manufacturing scale www.sunhydrogen.com/news-posts/sunhyd... SANTA BARBARA, CA – February 7, 2023 – SunHydrogen, Inc. (OTC: HYSR), the developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen using sunlight and water, today published a photo of the largest version to date of its nanoparticle-based green hydrogen technology. The image unveiled today shows a panel that houses multiple hydrogen generators and contains 16 times more hydrogen generator area than the Company’s previous small-scale model. Multiple arrays of hydrogen generators bolster hydrogen production rates. “This larger-scale panel moves us one step closer to producing commercial-scale hydrogen panels,” said SunHydrogen’s Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Syed Mubeen, pictured here. This prototype is currently the only self-contained nanoparticle-based hydrogen generation device of its kind that splits water molecules into high-purity green hydrogen and oxygen using the sun’s energy. SunHydrogen’s nanoparticle technology directly uses the electrical charges created by sunlight to generate hydrogen when the sun is shining. However, this prototype was also designed to support 24-hour operation even when the sun is not shining by powering the catalyst and membrane integration assembly with renewable grid electricity from wind or hydropower sources. The Company’s previous small-scale model, publicized in December 2022, was designed to fit a single nanoparticle-based hydrogen generator for testing in a controlled environment. “This larger-scale panel moves us one step closer to producing commercial-scale hydrogen panels,” said SunHydrogen’s Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Syed Mubeen. “Just like a solar panel is comprised of multiple cells, our hydrogen panel encases multiple hydrogen generators, as pictured. However, because we are growing our own nanoparticle semiconductor units using low-cost, abundant materials, we are not reliant on expensive solar cell materials and architecture. We believe that when our efficiency goals are met, this will prove to be one of – if not the most – economical green hydrogen solutions,” Dr. Mubeen concluded. SunHydrogen’s Iowa scientific team is currently working to increase the hydrogen production rate per panel by increasing the hydrogen generator area to panel area ratio, as well as overall panel size. The Company is also working to improve overall solar-to-hydrogen efficiency through its agreement with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), as well as with its industrial partner InRedox and the Singh Lab at the University of Michigan. In parallel, the Company is working to improve the overall stability of the hydrogen generators. “I am extremely proud of our team and our industrial partners for meeting another milestone in the path to scaling up our technology, and I am grateful for our shareholders’ patience and support as we work to improve efficiency, overcome challenges, and bring our vision to fruition,” said SunHydrogen’s CEO Tim Young. Note: A hydrogen generator refers to the entire unit structure composed of substrate, protective layer, photovoltaic layers, and oxidation/reduction catalyst, in which billions of nanoparticles split apart water at the molecular level. A hydrogen panel houses multiple arrays of such hydrogen generators. Future communications will continue to clarify this distinction between hydrogen generator and hydrogen panel.

Compressed Hydrogen Export Study Results Revealed Strategic Research Institute Published on : 8 Feb, 2023, 3:55 am Australian Provaris Energy has announced the completion and release by the Western Australian Government of the Compressed Hydrogen Export Feasibility Study Public Sharing Report. First announced in September 2021, the Study received funding from the Renewable Hydrogen Fund as part of the Western Australian Government's Renewable Hydrogen Strategy. The Study scope analysed the compression and export of 200,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen from the proposed HyEnergy hydrogen production facility to Singapore, and includes: Compression facilities An outgoing pipeline to an offshore loading terminal A fleet of Provaris' proprietary H2Neo 26,000 m3 GH2 Carriers An import terminal in Singapore The Study demonstrated the use of an offshore loading solution for compressed hydrogen can accelerate the development of greenfield hydrogen export projects with minimal technical barriers and smaller environmental footprints. A proposed offshore loading terminal will utilise a Single Anchor Loading for loading of GH2 carriers. The design of the SAL is by APL NOV, who has delivered and commissioned similar technologies to the offshore oil and gas industry for over 30 years. The proprietary system provides high operability limits, allowing connection and loading to take place at a significant wave height of 3.5 m. An initial hazard identification and environmental impact identification assessment was undertaken and indicates there are no significant constraints that should prevent the Study from progressing into the next stage of design and development. Cost estimates developed from the technical workstreams were consolidated into a commercial model to evaluate the levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH). The modelling indicates the LCOH for compression, pipeline, loading and unloading terminal, fleet of Provaris' H2Neo carriers and delivery to Singapore is USD 2.48 per kg. This figure excludes the cost of the hydrogen based on annualised production of 200,000 tonnes. Optimisation activities have been identified to further mature the Study outcomes, including the use of Provaris' larger-scale 120,000 m3 H2Max carrier which is expected improve the LCOH for transport. The Study was supported by a consortium of specialist consultants selected by Provaris including: WSP, Oropesa, APL NOV, Environmental Resources Management, Turner & Townsend, Paaras Marine Solutions, and GHD.
