    Het verhaal in het engels:

Sayona meets the population of Chibougamau-Chapais

Sayona meets the population of Chibougamau-Chapais
The Sayona mining company, which is the last Moblan project near Chibougamau, had the opportunity to meet the regional population as part of the Mining Week organized by ICM, Chibougamau-Chapais section.

Already well in the saddle with its project of the Lithium North America complex near La Corne en Abitibi which will be operational very soon, the Moblan project is likely to make a lot of talk about it in the coming years.

    Moblan

Sayona acquired the Moblan property 130 km from Chibougamau in September 2021, a property it shares with SOQUEM (40%). Since then, a vast drilling campaign has been underway to define the deposit, which is increasingly showing very interesting potential and will be able to provide high-quality lithium. With Moblan, mining is part of the new movement of the industry to want to make the most ecological mining operation possible at all costs, it is also to his credit. Their wish is to contribute to the electrification of transport and to fight climate change.

Even if their arrival in the region is recent, the mining industry says it is already well established in the environment. "It is important for us to be well involved in the communities that welcome us. For our projects to be successful, we must work with our host communities, with entrepreneurs and cities, "says Steven Pomerleau, communication and relationship with the community.

Already, achievements and support have been made in the community, in particular with FaunENord at the ecological level, in the artistic field with BABA and also a program to install electrical terminals to support the electrification of transport. Local purchasing is also one of their priorities. "Local hiring and buying are a priority, we must work hand in hand with the people and companies here. We estimate our economic benefits at about $3.8 million for the last year, "confirms Mr. Pomerleau. It should be noted that already networking activities and meetings have been carried out with the entrepreneurs of Chibougamau, but also of Chapais.

An economic development committee has also been set up in collaboration with Développement Chibougamau and the Chapais Economic Development Corporation in order to optimize the economic benefits in the environment. Mining is also involved with Cree communities in the region. Meetings have already been organized to present the project and a monitoring committee is already in place with them to discuss the impact of the project. Already several members of the communities are employed by Sayona.

    Construction for 2025

In an ideal world, mining would like to start the construction of Moblan in 2025-2026. At present, there is no shortage of challenges. This year, the Lithium North America complex in La Corne recently began production of spodumene. In the coming months on Moblan's side, exploration to properly define resources will be completed while preparing the feasibility study. A start of construction would be estimated in 2025-2026 for a start of operation in 2027. For the future, the production target is 55 Kilotonnes of lithium carbonate by combining the two extraction poles for the following year. Sayona, with its properties and the Moblan project will own no less than about 30% of the lithium resource in North America. This is about 89 million tons of lithium in all properties combined. For Moblan, not all data is available and the results may change, but the mine will be in operation for at least twenty years.

One of the important aspects: the company will soon be in an audition to obtain its Ecologo certification, a certification that guarantees the company's permanent desire to do well on the environmental side. The company will also recommend companies that hold such certification for their partnership with subcontractors. Another aspect that is put forward is that the lithium that will be produced in Quebec will be more ecological since it will not travel half the planet before it arrives at the processing plant.

Lithium rockstar Sayona Mining prepares equity raising, taps broker
    May 25, 2023 – 4.13pm
ASX-listed lithium developer Sayona Mining was once again in front of fund managers on Thursday, seeking to raise as much as $200 million.

Sources told Street Talk the cash call was expected to be announced as early as Thursday, and would be used to fund production and for working capital at its lithium projects in Québec, Canada.

House broker Petra Capital is overseeing the mooted capital raising. A spokesperson for Sayona declined to comment when contacted by this column.

Sayona’s North American Lithium project in Québec’s Abitibi region produced its firs lithium concentrate in March, and has a target annual nameplate capacity of up to 226,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate. Four shipments are planned in the first half of the 2024 financial year, according to the company’s most recent investor presentation.

Raising proceeds will also go towards feasibility studies at its Moblan project in Québec’s Northern Hub, which Sayona says is host to high-grade spodumene mineralisation, “in a well-studied deposit with more than 17,000 metres of diamond drilling.”

    Dit zat er dik in.

In 2021, Morella commenced an earn-in agreement with Sayona covering eight tenements including the Mallina, Tabba East and Strelley areas, all in the Pilgangoora lithium district, and two tenements in the South Murchison. Morella has to spend A$1.5 million on exploration within three years to earn a 51% interest.

The Mallina project is the most advanced of Sayona’s Pilbara portfolio. Multiple zones of spodumene pegmatites have been identified within a 25 sq km zone.

The pegmatites occur in three main swarms: the western Discovery prospect, the central Area C prospect and the Eastern Group pegmatites. Surface sampling has been encouraging, with rock results up to 4.6% Li2O returned from spodumene pegmatite at surface. Mapping has confirmed the pegmatites can be extensive, with the Eastern No.2 pegmatite being over 1,300m in strike extent and up to 20m in thickness.
During fiscal 2022, Morella reported significant progress at the Mallina Lithium Project with the completion of a targeted deep drilling program. In total, three RC holes for 430m and four diamond core holes (including two core tail extensions to RC drilling) were completed for 831.4m.
Fine grained spodumene quartz intergrowths within aplite intrusive intervals were observed in the drill core. RC chips and drill core were logged on site and samples have been prepared for mineralogical studies and geochemical assay work to be completed at a Perth laboratory. Results are pending.

    Update:

Balen.

Sayona Mining (ASX: SYA) is pumping another A$200 million ($130 million) into its lithium projects in Quebec as production ramps up at its North American lithium (NAL) project.

The funds will be used to bolster Sayona Quebec’s development of a northern lithium hub, both the recently restarted NAL project and drilling at its feasibility-stage Moblan project.

Production was restarted at the NAL mine and mill near Val d’Or, Quebec, in March. Funds will be used to ramp-up production ahead of planned lithium carbonate production. The feasibility study examined a 20-year life for the project with a pre-tax net present value with an 8% discount of C$2 billion. NAL is the only major hard rock lithium mine in North America

Sayona is also spending to advance the Moblan lithium project 130 km northwest of Chibougamau, where 60,000 metres of drilling is planned. The definitive study is to be completed in October 2023.

Measured and indicated resources at Moblan total 49.9 million tonnes grading 1.20% lithium oxide (Li2O) (NI 43-101 compliant) using a cut-off of 0.25% Li2O, making it one of North America’s single largest lithium resources.

Sayona Ready to Roll after Successful Raising

By Glenn Dyer | More Articles by Glenn Dyer

Australian-based Canadian lithium hopeful Sayona Mining yesterday announced the successful completion of its book build for a fully underwritten $200 million placement at 18 cents a share.

That price was a 14.3% discount to the last price before the raising was announced last week on May 25.

The shares closed right on 18 cents, down nearly 12%.

Sayona said $169 million was raised in the first tranche, a placement to big investors. A further $31 million will be raised if shareholders approve the issue at a meeting on July 14.

The company said the money will be used to expedite the development of its emerging northern Québec lithium hub, centred on its Moblan Lithium Project, where a 60,000-metre drilling campaign is currently underway.

It said a resource upgrade will follow the completion of the drilling, with feasibility studies continuing on a new mining operation located near established infrastructure and with potential for downstream processing.

In addition, Sayona’s flagship NAL (North American Lithium) operation is continuing its production ramp-up. The new funding will support mine development studies, assessment of downstream options, including lithium carbonate production, and associated infrastructure planning.

Additional spending is also anticipated on project infrastructure, with NAL forming the centre of Sayona’s Abitibi lithium hub.

As well extra money will be spent by Sayona on its emerging gold and lithium projects in Western Australia, but you get the feeling from recent statements, that most of the company’s eggs are now in the Canadian lithium basket.

Sayona CEO Brett Lynch said in Tuesday’s release that “The success of this capital raise highlights the market’s confidence in our strategy and we are delighted to welcome a number of new institutional investors to the register, together with receiving strong support from existing investors and management.

“This funding will speed the growth of our resource base and bring extra tonnes to the market more quickly, as we continue our advance towards becoming North America’s first vertically integrated lithium producer.”

    …………

And in a separate development the Canadian government and government of Quebec province will each fund $C150 million for a General Motors-POSCO Chemical battery materials facility.

GM and South Korea’s POSCO outlined their plan last year to build the facility in Becancour, Quebec, to produce cathode active material (CAM) for electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

The companies aim to have the plant, to cost more than $C600-million project, on stream by 2025.

CAM includes components like processed nickel, lithium and other materials that make up about 40% of the cost of a battery, the Canadian industry ministry said in a statement.

“This investment in GM-POSCO’s new facility in Becancour will help further position Quebec as a key hub in Canada’s growing EV supply chain,” Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said.

The CAM produced at the plant will be used to make GM’s Ultium batteries that will power the company’s EVs, such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ.

Sayona’s area is to the north of Becancour which is on the St Lawrence Seaway.

    ASX lithium explorers Canada

Back in ye olden days they told explorers, vagabonds and wayward youth to ‘Go West’ in search of a better life.

Now the catchphrase for down on their luck ASX explorers is ‘Go North’, spreading like a virus across its moose populated plains in search of today’s go-to metal, lithium.

But is much of it moose pasture?

Thanks to Twitter’s Viking Trader we have a running weekly commentary on the number of ASX explorers taking the plunge in Canada’s vast outback.

According to Viking Trader, he counted 21 greenfields projects on the ASX just one week earlier. A craze to rival the Monster Mash.

As a lithium jurisdiction Canada’s various territories pale in comparison to WA, home to around half of the world’s lithium raw material production.

It has just one operating mine, Sayona’s (ASX:SYA) North American Lithium operation in Quebec, and that previously went bust in the last downturn.

But for many explorers therein lies the opportunity. While it appears the biggest spodumene deposits in WA have already been identified and soaked up by majors or former upstarts now worth billions of dollars, Canada’s immaturity makes it a land of opportunity.

    PRODUCERS/ADVANCED EXPLORERS?

Just one company can count itself as a producer in Canada — Sayona Mining (ASX:SYA), which operates the North American Lithium operation in Quebec with 25% JV owner and offtake partner Piedmont Lithium (ASX:PLL).

It is expected to produce xxxxxxt of spodumene this year. But Sayona recently tapped the market for $200 million in a surprise raising which could see it accelerate the development of a lithium carbonate plant at the NAL site (50% finished by the mine’s previous owners before they went bust).

The funds could also see SYA accelerate the development of the 60% owned Moblan mine in the James Bay region, home to the vast bulk of Canada’s lithium explorers. SYA wants to be in production there by 2027 and will be egged on by the Quebecois government given it holds the other 40%.

James Bay is also the name of Allkem’s proposed mine in the region, which combined with the nearby Whabouchi project it will pick up in its merger with Livent — 50% owner of Whabouchi operator Nemaska Lithium — is looking to produce around 55,000tpa of lithium carbonate equivalent from the site.

Sayona Mining Limited (ASX:SYA) most popular amongst individual investors who own 57% of the shares, institutions hold 15%
    Wed, June 7, 2023 at 12:32 AM GMT+2

Sayona Mining's significant individual investors ownership suggests that the key decisions are influenced by shareholders from the larger public

The top 25 shareholders own 37% of the company

    Recent sales by insiders

Every investor in Sayona Mining Limited (ASX:SYA) should be aware of the most powerful shareholder groups. We can see that individual investors own the lion's share in the company with 57% ownership. That is, the group stands to benefit the most if the stock rises (or lose the most if there is a downturn).

Meanwhile, institutions make up 15% of the company’s shareholders. Institutions often own shares in more established companies, while it's not unusual to see insiders own a fair bit of smaller companies.

Let's take a closer look to see what the different types of shareholders can tell us about Sayona Mining.

What Does The Institutional Ownership Tell Us About Sayona Mining?

Institutions typically measure themselves against a benchmark when reporting to their own investors, so they often become more enthusiastic about a stock once it's included in a major index. We would expect most companies to have some institutions on the register, especially if they are growing.

We can see that Sayona Mining does have institutional investors; and they hold a good portion of the company's stock. This can indicate that the company has a certain degree of credibility in the investment community. However, it is best to be wary of relying on the supposed validation that comes with institutional investors. They too, get it wrong sometimes. If multiple institutions change their view on a stock at the same time, you could see the share price drop fast. It's therefore worth looking at Sayona Mining's earnings history below. Of course, the future is what really matters.

Hedge funds don't have many shares in Sayona Mining. Piedmont Lithium Inc. is currently the largest shareholder, with 13% of shares outstanding. In comparison, the second and third largest shareholders hold about 5.0% and 3.9% of the stock. In addition, we found that Brett Lynch, the CEO has 1.8% of the shares allocated to their name.

A deeper look at our ownership data shows that the top 25 shareholders collectively hold less than half of the register, suggesting a large group of small holders where no single shareholder has a majority.

While studying institutional ownership for a company can add value to your research, it is also a good practice to research analyst recommendations to get a deeper understand of a stock's expected performance. There is a little analyst coverage of the stock, but not much. So there is room for it to gain more coverage.

The definition of company insiders can be subjective and does vary between jurisdictions. Our data reflects individual insiders, capturing board members at the very least. The company management answer to the board and the latter should represent the interests of shareholders. Notably, sometimes top-level managers are on the board themselves.

I generally consider insider ownership to be a good thing. However, on some occasions it makes it more difficult for other shareholders to hold the board accountable for decisions.

Shareholders would probably be interested to learn that insiders own shares in Sayona Mining Limited. It is a pretty big company, so it is generally a positive to see some potentially meaningful alignment. In this case, they own around AU$97m worth of shares (at current prices). Most would say this shows alignment of interests between shareholders and the board. Still, it might be worth checking

The general public -- including retail investors -- own 57% of Sayona Mining. This level of ownership gives investors from the wider public some power to sway key policy decisions such as board composition, executive compensation, and the dividend payout ratio.

We can see that public companies hold 12% of the Sayona Mining shares on issue. We can't be certain but it is quite possible this is a strategic stake. The businesses may be similar, or work together.

It's always worth thinking about the different groups who own shares in a company. But to understand Sayona Mining better, we need to consider many other factors. For instance, we've identified that you should be aware of.

But ultimately it is the future, not the past, that will determine how well the owners of this business will do. Therefore we think it advisable to take a look at .
