Viking Therapeutics (VKTX) succes met NASH..?

    Viking ligt inderdaad een aantal jaren achter maar er is zoveel geld met nash te verdienen dat het mij niet zo'n probleem lijkt dat er meerdere spelers actief zijn. Voorlopig lijkt viking best in class op nash gebied te zijn. Intercept heeft problemen qua veiligheid dus ik denk dat madrigal op dit moment de beste papieren heeft. Het is heel erg belangrijk dat de goede cijfers van vk2806 bevestigd worden na een fase 2b, die start in h2 2019. Hoe groot de kans na fase2b op goede resultaten is, ik heb geen idee. Het blijft altijd een beetje een gok die ik met een kleine positie wel aan durf. Ze hebben natuurlijk met VK5211 nog een troef in handen. De waarde daarvoor kan oplopen tot een miljard dollar. Maar het echte grote geld is natuurlijk in nash te verdienen. Voorlopig schat ik de kans op een overname klein in. Daarvoor is er nog teveel onzekerheid en de ideale overnamekandidaat gilead heeft net een samenwerkingsverband gesloten met novo nordisk voor een nash combo. De kans op een partnership lijkt me iets groter

    Gilead en NovoNordisk lopen nog veel meer achter.

    Het lijkt me sterk dat Trump 'Medicare for all' gaat invoeren.

    Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris have voiced support for Medicare for All legislation that would provide universal health coverage, while President Donald Trump has pledged to address health care after the 2020 presidential election.

    There are several Medicare for All proposals circulating in Congress, some of which would basically abolish private insurance while others would simply create a public option and leave private plans largely in place. Still, the industry is worried. On Tuesday, UnitedHealth CEO David Wichmann said Medicare for All would “destabilize the nation’s health system.”

    While the industry may be worried, Tepper suggested the concerns about Medicare for All are overblown.

    “I don’t think Medicare for All happens so I think there’s a huge opportunity here,” said Tepper. “In the short run I do think there’s political headwinds but as a long-term investor I think you have the opportunity to get in at a good price point now.”

    Dat is een goeie vraag, waar ik het antwoord niet op weet.

    Een van mijn redenen om Viking te kopen was juist het hoge shortpercentage. Dit soort aandelen kunnen extra hard stijgen na goed nieuws.

    De vraag is dan wel niet aan mij gesteld, maar ik doe toch een duit in het zakje. ;-)
    Allereerst zie je, vooral in de VS, bij biotechfondsen nagenoeg altijd een geleidelijke daling na een opwaartse spike door goed nieuws. Voorbeelden te over. Kijk alleen al maar naar de twee grootste NASH concurrenten van Viking, Intercept en Madrigal.
    Daarnaast is Viking een echt people's fund, zoals Pharming dat bij ons is. De lage koers (<10 dollar) zou daar wat mee te maken kunnen hebben. En de gewone man laat zich gemakkelijk bang maken en verkoopt sneller met verlies dan de grote jongens.
    Tot slot zijn de resultaten van Viking volgens velen rooskleuriger voorgesteld dan ze zijn. Of liever, er wordt te veel belang aan gehecht. Terwijl... geen biopsie data en erg kleine patiëntenpoel, goeie relatieve vetafname maar absolute afname zou onduidelijk zijn?
    Dat zijn zo wat mogelijkheden voor shorters, denk ik.

    FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 25, 2019-- Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD) today announced that STELLAR-3, a Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the safety and efficacy of selonsertib, an investigational, once daily, oral inhibitor of apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1), for patients with bridging fibrosis (F3) due to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), did not meet the pre-specified week 48 primary endpoint of a = 1-stage histologic improvement in fibrosis without worsening of NASH.

    In the study of 802 enrolled and dosed patients, 9.3 percent of patients treated with selonsertib 18 mg (p=0.42 versus placebo) and 12.1 percent of patients treated with selonsertib 6 mg (p=0.93) achieved a = 1-stage improvement in fibrosis according to the NASH Clinical Research Network (CRN) classification without worsening of NASH after 48 weeks of treatment, versus 13.2 percent with placebo. Selonsertib was generally well tolerated and safety results were consistent with prior studies.

    “While we had hoped for different outcomes from the STELLAR program, we remain focused and committed to developing highly effective treatments for patients living with advanced fibrosis due to NASH. We are actively exploring the STELLAR data and will work with external collaborators like PathAI and insitro, to further our understanding of this complex disease and advance our development programs. We thank the patients and their physicians who participated in the STELLAR program for contributing to these efforts,” said John McHutchison, AO, MD, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Research and Development, Gilead Sciences. “We believe that effective therapy for NASH will ultimately require a combination approach that targets distinct pathways involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. In this regard, we look forward to data from the Phase 2 ATLAS combination trial of selonsertib, cilofexor and firsocostat in patients with advanced fibrosis due to NASH, which will be available later this year.”

    Gilead will now work with the Data Monitoring Committee and investigators to conclude the STELLAR-3 study in a manner consistent with the best interests of each patient.

    Selonsertib, cilofexor, and firsocostat, alone or in combination, are investigational compounds and are not approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) or any other regulatory authority. Safety and efficacy have not been established for these agents.
