    Nieuwe VS studies tonen aan dat Idylla(TM) snelle eerste beoordeling
    toelaat van meest voorkomende EGFR mutaties, voorafgaand aan
    next-generation sequencing

    Mechelen, België, 2 februari 2021 - Biocartis Group NV (de

    diagnostiek (Euronext Brussels: BCART), kondigt vandaag de publicatie
    aan van twee recente studies door Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
    ('MSKCC', New York, VS) over het gebruik van de

    Idylla(TM) EGFR Mutation Assay (RUO(1) ) van Biocartis als snelle
    eerstelijns testing methode alvorens next-generation sequencing (NGS) te
    gebruiken. Beide studies besluiten dat de Idylla(TM) EGFR test een
    snelle beoordeling van de meest voorkomende EGFR-mutaties mogelijk maakt
    met een beperkte staalinput, zelfs op verschillende soorten stalen,
    zonder dat daaropvolgende meer uitgebreide NGS testing in het gedrang
    komt, hetgeen nuttig kan zijn in gevallen waar de resultaten van
    EGFR-mutaties negatief waren en verdere testing nodig is.

    EGFR of 'Epidermal growth factor receptor' mutaties zijn de tweede meest
    voorkomende oncogene oorzaak van niet-kleincellige longkanker (NSCLC).

    studie(2) maakte gebruik van een multi-test aanpak voor snelle EGFR
    testing met de

    Idylla(TM) EGFR Mutation Assay (RUO(1) ), gevolgd door NGS. De studie
    omvatte 301 cytologische stalen waarvan er 218 getest werden met de
    Idylla(TM) EGFR Mutation Assay (RUO), hetgeen resulteerde in 24,3%
    (53/218 stalen) die EGFR-mutatie positief waren. Gelijktijdige NGS
    testing(3) toonde 96,2% overeenstemming en dat verbeterde tot 98,7% na
    het invoegen van manuele nazichtcriteria(4) . Deze studie concludeerde
    dat Idylla(TM) testing een snelle en nauwkeurige bepaling van de
    EGFR-status mogelijk maakt met een beperkte staalinput en op
    verschillende staaltypes, zonder dat dit daaropvolgende meer uitgebreide
    NGS testing in het gedrang brengt, in gevallen waarin verdere testing
    nodig is.

    studie(5) met 1.249 stalen toonde 98,57% (69/70) overeenstemming met de
    referentiemethodes. Van de 1.179 klinische gevallen was 23,41%
    EGFR-positief met Idylla(TM). Gelijktijdige NGS(6) testing toonde een
    overeenstemming aan van 98,62% (788/799) en 98,50% (787/799), gebruik
    makend van respectievelijk(7) MSKCC's eigen en Idylla(TM) analyse
    pipelines. De studie concludeerde dat een eerste beoordeling van de
    meest voorkomende EGFR-mutaties snel kan worden uitgevoerd met het
    Idylla(TM) platform, terwijl in gevallen waarin verdere testing nodig
    zou zijn, meer uitgebreide NGS testing mogelijk blijft voor de overgrote
    meerderheid van de stalen, met hoog succes. De gemiddelde
    tijd-tot-resultaat voor de Idylla(TM) EGFR Mutation Assay (RUO), van
    ontvangst van het materiaal tot het uitschrijven van het rapport, viel
    binnen de drie dagen, zelfs wanneer rekening wordt gehouden met extra
    stappen voor extractie en voorbereiding in kleine stalen.

    Herman Verrelst, Chief Executive Officer van Biocartis, reageerde: "Bij
    longkanker is het staalweefsel het probleem omdat het moeilijk te
    verkrijgen is. Voor NGS, een meer gedetailleerde sequencingtechnologie
    die vaak bij longkanker wordt gebruikt, zijn de staalvereisten vaak zeer
    hoog. Veel longkankerstalen mislukken daarom met NGS(8) . Deze studies
    tonen aan dat Idylla(TM) en de Idylla(TM) EGFR Mutation Assay (RUO) een
    gevoelige en snelle technologie is, die goed geschikt is voor
    eerstelijns snelle en nauwkeurige bepaling van de EGFR-status, zonder de
    mogelijkheid uit te sluiten om nadien nog NGS testing te doen in
    gevallen waar dit nodig is. Samen met de Idylla(TM) GeneFusion Assay,
    die we in het eerste kwartaal van 2021 als RUO test plannen te lanceren,
    zullen deze tests naar verwachting de meerderheid van de bruikbare
    longkankermutaties bestrijken. Zo hebben ze het potentieel om
    longkankermutatie testing radicaal te veranderen, door bruikbare
    resultaten voor clinicus en patiënt mogelijk te maken binnen enkele
    uren of dagen, in plaats van weken."

    Sounds like some of you are surprised that we are not getting more of a share price lift from the PR. My read is that is because the PR did not tell us anything new. The MSK webinar that I talked about last fall already revealed that Idylla EGFR was fast and accurate and could be used first to determine which samples required NGS testing and thus save money, The technical reviews have never been the problem,

    Perhaps BCART can leverage the results of these studies to expedite the IVD registration approvals. China allows studies conducted outside of the country to be used for registration approval dossiers. These results are especially relevant there since nearly 50% of Asian NSCLC cases are driven by EGFR mutations.

    The problem in the past is that BCART never builds on the momentum from this type of positive PR. The would get a huge pop if they followed it up with a PR that they are expediting the filing of the IVD registration documentation.

    BCART is building the foundation brick by brick, I get frustrated that others running LDT NGS MDx are able to offer their EGFR testing with little or no input from FDA whereas it is a multiyear process for Idylla to pursue a 510K or PMA pathway. Eventually, these pathways should open the door for quicker insurance reimbursement. However, it is frustrating in the meantime.

    If BCART can keep demonstrating the use of existing cytology samples for EGFR it could be a huge advantage. Lung cancer samples are difficult to collect, cytology smear samples are often the minimal sample that has been collected. The fact that the sample may still be useable after it has been examined under the scope is a positive. However, these smear samples are often stained in a manner that interferes with the Idylla PCR. Some studies have indicated that the stain can be removed.

    I continue to believe there is a market but we are only in the first inning, this will play out over years.

    I was wondering on everyone expectations towards the following :

    - expectations on outlook 2021 (cartridges / Idylla systems placed)
    - expectations on when BCART would reach the break even point
    - expectations with regards to the €135M convertible bond that needs to be converted / payed by 2024 => what do you think, will we go to a conversion or rather a payment ?
    - Expectations towards financing: another capital round ? I surely expect at least 1 is still necessary.

    Marketing costs will still be high even with the Chinese and Japanese markets picking up in 2 years but the stock price rate is currently fundamentally undervalued. The actual rate does not even cover the value of the technology.

    Hopefully, BCART was able to put the fix in for focused genomic panels! Seriously, the study is likely to determine that whole genome NGS sequencing is capable of identifying many mutations for which there currently are no treatment and thus much of the information provided at significant additional costs are in-actionable.

    I'm holding off on prognostications for 2021 to see if the much promised sales growth inflection point arrives. There is potential for significant disruption in the 1st half of the year as the MDx testing focus shifts from the COVID virus to the backlog of delayed oncology MDx testing. If BCART could start gaining diagnostic approvals, they could be in great shape for 2022.

    NEW YORK – The Belgian Society of Medical Oncology (BSMO) on Thursday announced a study to evaluate the use of genomic profiling and precision oncology for patients with advanced cancer in Belgium.

    BSMO will begin the study, dubbed BALLETT, next month. It will enroll 864 patients with advanced metastatic cancer. These patients will be offered comprehensive genomic profiling, and the deidentified data from the study will be added to a newly established national genomic tumor database overseen by Belgium’s Scientific Institute for Public Health, Sciensano.

    Illumina and PierianDx have also partnered with BSMO on this study. Illumina will provide its TruSight Oncology 500 panel for the study, along with its NovaSeq 6000 and NextSeq sequencing platforms. Clinical interpretation of the sequencing data will be done with PierianDx's Clinical Genomics Workspace platform and OncoDNA's platform OncoKDM.

    Data from the tumor profiling will be used to make treatment decisions, with the goal to improve access to targeted treatments and improve outcomes for patients with advanced cancer.

    While it is several months old, I found this POC testing article interesting.
    while it is obvious that some tests like sepsis have to be completed in the POC, oncology is often different. The article outlines some considerations whether an assay should be offered at the POC.

    it's a pure guess for these cartridges and idylla increase. i'm bad at betting, but for the sake of sports: +35% cartridges and +350 idylla. and then let's hope they outperform that forecast, as it will be necessary.

    The reason why i'm really responding is related to the convertible bond.
    If i'm not mistaking, the option to convert lies with the institutions who lended money to biocartis... Biocartis can't convert the loan into shares, but the counterparty can... (can someone confirm? that's what i always assumed).
    If this is the case, then i don't expect the conversion to take place. at the end of the loan, Biocartis will need to pay. No counterparty will want to swap their loan for shares if that share price is 40% of the initial amount.
    Can someone confirm about who has the right for conversion?

    Needless to say, if the conversion does not take place, Biocartis will need to collect money.
    But even with conversion, Biocartis will need to collect money. Cashburn still too high, in approx 2.5y there would be no cash... i don't see them break-even in 2 years, but Biocartis is free to prove my wrong.

    She announced a 'European cancer treatment and prevention plan' where broad & early diagnosis is one of the pilars.

    Any opinions on how this could be beneficial for Bcart in any way?
