    Amerikaanse kandidaat Hooggerechtshof beschuldigd van seksueel misbruik

    De Amerikaanse hoogleraar Christine Blasey Ford beschuldigt Brett Kavanaugh van seksueel misbruik. De conservatieve rechter werd in juli door de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump voorgedragen als nieuw lid van het Hooggerechtshof.

    Het misbruik zou hebben plaatsgevonden toen de twee nog tieners waren, meldt The Washington Post zondagavond. De 51-jarige vrouw verklaart dat Kavanaugh haar in de jaren tachtig op een bed vasthield en probeerde om haar uit te kleden.

    De 53-jarige Kavanaugh, momenteel werkzaam bij het Hof van Beroep in Washington D.C., ontkent schuldig te zijn aan het vermeende misbruik. Dit liet hij vorige week via een verklaring weten, nadat de eerste berichten over de beschuldigen waren gepubliceerd.

    Met een interview in The Washington Post treedt Ford voor het eerst naar buiten over het incident, waarbij naast Kavanaugh nog een jongen betrokken zou zijn geweest. Hij zou alleen getuige zijn geweest van het tafereel.

    De hoogleraar psychologie aan de universteit van Palo Alto zegt dat Kavanaugh destijds dronken was. Hij zou zijn hand op haar mond hebben gelegd, toen ze probeerde te schreeuwen.
    Democraten eisen onderzoek naar misbruik

    Kavanaugh is door Trump voorgedragen als rechter in het Hooggerechtshof. De Republikeinen willen dat de benoeming voor de komende verkiezingen rond is. De Democraten willen dat de FBI onderzoek gaat doen en dat de voordracht tot die tijd wordt stilgelegd.

    De keuze van een nieuwe rechter in het Hooggerechtshof kan verregaande gevolgen hebben voor de Amerikaanse rechtspraak in de komende decennia. Rechters in het hof worden voor het leven gekozen. Met de komst van Kavanaugh is de meerheid van het hof conservatief.

    De Amerikaan staat bekend als een tegenstander van regels die het handelen van grote bedrijven aan banden leggen. Hij is ook tegen het opleggen van extra regels als het gaat om milieuvervuiling, hoewel hij geen ontkenner is van de opwarming van de aarde.

    WASHINGTON - Een Amerikaanse vrouw die zegt dat ze seksueel is misbruikt door kandidaat-opperrechter Brett Kavanaugh, treedt naar buiten. Tot nu toe ging het om anonieme beschuldigingen, maar zondag plaatst de krant Washington Post een interview met de vrouw, Christine Blasey Ford.

    Ford zegt dat ze als middelbare scholier in 1982 op een bed werd geduwd door een „stomdronken” Kavanaugh. Hij zou haar hebben betast en hebben geprobeerd haar kleren uit te trekken. Toen ze wilde gillen, zou hij zijn hand op haar mond hebben gedrukt. „Ik dacht dat hij me onbedoeld zou vermoorden”, aldus Ford. Ze zegt dat ze kon ontkomen toen een vriend van Kavanaugh bovenop hen sprong.

    Kavanaugh zou op het moment van het incident zeventien jaar oud zijn geweest en op een middelbare school in een voorstad van Washington hebben gezeten. Ford was vijftien en zat op een school in de buurt. Het zou zijn gebeurd op een feestje.

    Ford (51), hoogleraar psychologie aan Palo Alto University, stuurde in juli een brief aan een Democratisch lid van het Huis van Afgevaardigden, maar wilde toen anoniem blijven. De inhoud van de brief was de afgelopen dagen uitgelekt. Kavanaugh heeft de beschuldigingen ontkend.

    Kavanaugh is door president Donald Trump voorgedragen als rechter in het Hooggerechtshof. De Senaat moet erover stemmen. De hoorzittingen in een senaatscommissie zijn afgerond en het was de bedoeling dat de commissie komende week zou beslissen om de nominatie door te sturen naar de gehele Senaat. De Republikeinen willen dat de benoeming voor de komende verkiezingen rond is. De Democraten willen de FBI onderzoek gaat doen en dat de voordracht tot die tijd wordt stilgelegd

    Van de MSM is FOX Fake News, de lievelingszender van Trump, nu dus de grootste.
    Trumpgelovigen kunnen dus niet meer huilie huilie doen dat de MSM tegen Trump zou zijn.

    Overigens jammer, want vanouds was de taak van de journalistiek om de macht kritisch te volgen.
    Het is zorgelijk als de media niet meer kritisch zijn t.o.v. de machthebbers (= de president, de meerderheid in het congres, de machtigste bedrijven, de rijksten ter wereld - want geld = macht- enz.)

    WASHINGTON—Donald Trump’s remarkable-even-for-Donald Trump stretch of dishonesty continues.

    Trump made a whopping 115 false claims in the first full week of September. That is the second-most of any week of his presidency.

    That week came immediately after a week with 83 false claims, which is now the fifth-worst week of his presidency.

    All five of Trump’s worst weeks have come in the last three months. The U.S. president set new monthly dishonesty records for himself in each of June, July and August.

    Trump is now up to 2,634 false claims for the first 598 days of his presidency, an average of 4.4 per day.

    Tropical Storm Florence has poured so much rain on the state that the wall of a coal ash landfill near the lake has failed in several places, washing away more than 2,000 cubic yards of toxic waste, enough to fill more than 150 dump trucks.

    Duke Energy, which owns an adjacent power plant, said it doesn’t think the landfill poses a risk to public health or the environment, spokeswoman Paige Sheehan said.
