Obama veteran Jen O’Malley Dillon, who managed Beto O’Rourke’s failed presidential campaign and has assisted Biden’s team in recent weeks, is becoming Biden’s campaign manager. The current manager, Greg Schultz, will assist in the campaign’s shift from the Democratic primary to the general election.

WASHINGTON — Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson has backed down from holding a vote to subpoena an ex-Ukrainian official as part of his investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden amid concerns from Democrats and some Republicans.
"We will continue to iron out the discrepancies that were raised over the last couple days, and I can't really get into much more than that," Johnson, R-Wis., told reporters.

One of Donald Trump's most important missteps in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak happened before anyone had even heard of COVID-19. In fact, the president's first error came back in 2018.
It was two years ago when Trump ordered the shutdown of the White House National Security Council's entire global health security unit. NBC News had a good report on this recently, noting that the president's decision "to downsize the White House national security staff -- and eliminate jobs addressing global pandemics -- is likely to hamper the U.S. government's response to the coronavirus."
It was against this backdrop that a reporter asked Trump late last week about whether he was prepared to "rethink having an Office of Pandemic Preparation in the White House." The president replied :
"I just think this is something, Peter, that you can never really think is going to happen. You know, who -- I've heard all about, 'This could be...' -- you know, 'This could be a big deal,' from before it happened. You know, this -- something like this could happen.... Who would have thought? Look, how long ago is it? Six, seven, eight weeks ago -- who would have thought we would even be having the subject? ... You never really know when something like this is going to strike and what it's going to be."

Ohio officials said Thursday that more than 100,000 people in the state are believed to carry the novel coronavirus, reinforcing fears that infections are far more widespread in the United States than limited testing confirms.
“We know now, just the fact of community spread says that at least 1 percent, at the very least 1 percent of our population is carrying this virus in Ohio today,” said Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health.
Ohio has just five confirmed cases of the virus and several dozen cases under investigation, Gov. Mike DeWine (R) said Thursday. But authorities there have been alarmed by evidence of community transmission and are taking drastic new steps to slow the coronavirus’s spread, including banning mass gatherings and closing all schools for at least three weeks.
The “extended spring break” set to begin Monday will affect more than a million students. Many schools throughout the country have closed amid coronavirus fears, but authorities have been reluctant to enact such a dramatic measure statewide.
