Mar 17 2015, 08:28 ET | About: Kite Pharma (KITE) | By: Douglas W. House, SA News Editor
CAR-T cancer therapy firm Kite Pharma (NASDAQ:KITE) acquires privately-held Amsterdam-based T-Cell Factory B.V. (TCF) for $21M plus clinical, regulatory and sales milestones. The transaction strengthens Kite's platform in T Cell Receptor (TCR) gene therapy.TCF, renamed Kite Pharma EU, discovers and develops tumor-specific TCRs for broad application in cancer using its proprietary TCR-GENErator platform.Kite President & CEO Arie Belldegrun, M.D., says, "The acquisition of TCF and its novel discovery and development platform provides Kite with a strong position in TCR gene therapy for cancer. In addition, with our strategic plans for expanding clinical operations to ex-U.S. sites, Kite's relationship with the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) provides an important operational platform and potential access to investigators, clinical sites and manufacturing facilities in Amsterdam."Kite is advancing a broad pipeline of TCR-based product candidates including NY-ESO-1 against various tumors, HPV-16 E6 antigens against cervical and head and neck cancers and certain MAGE antigens against various tumors.

How ARM’s Edward Lanphier Is Fighting for Cell Therapy Cures that Save Patients and Portfolios March 19, 2015 Source: George S. Mack of The Life Sciences Report (3/19/15) ............... ....... TLSR: What should investors in regenerative medicine, gene therapy and genetically modified cell industries be listening for? EL: I think 2015 and 2016 are going to be incredibly important years in terms of clinical translation, clinical data and product approval. I think there are going to be a lot of catalysts: a lot of important, tangible milestones associated with Phase 2 data, Phase 3 data, biologics license application (BLA) submissions and, potentially, product approvals. TLSR: Where do you think we will see the first product approvals? EL: I think it’s yet to be determined. I don’t know that my crystal ball is quite that clear, but with that said. . . There are a several in vivo gene therapy programs involving adeno-associated virus (AAV) approaches. One of those programs, for lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD; also called familial hyperchylomicronemia), a very rare genetic disease, has already been approved in Europe and is undergoing some additional testing in the U.S. for potential approval here. The agent is called Glybera (alipogene tiparvovec), and it was developed by the Dutch company uniQure N.V. (QURE:NASDAQ) Also employing AAV, there is an ongoing Phase 3 clinical trial in the ophthalmic space that I think is very important.www.thelifesciencesreport.com/pub/na/...

CHIESI FARMACEUTICI GROUP CONFIRMS GROWTH AND INVESTMENT TREND FOR 2014 Chiesi Farmaceutici has ended 2014 with a turnover of €1.342 million and an 8.4% growth rate compared to 2013 Investment in Research and Development totals €237 million The Group has moved up the world ranking of innovative pharma companies from 50th to 46th place Parma (Italy), March 25, 2015 – Chiesi Farmaceutici Group, an international company based in Parma, Italy, closed 2014 with a turnover of €1.342 million and was up by 8.4% on the previous year - around two points higher than the global market. EBITDA reached €363 million, equal to 27.1% of sales and up on the previous year despite high levels of investment in research and development, which have reached a record high of €237 million, equal to 17.6% of sales. This achievement has pushed the Group further up the world ranking of innovative pharma companies from 50th to 46th place. “Our growing commitment to research and development represents a key premise for the Group’s efforts to develop new products in all the therapeutic areas it operates in ” – comments Alberto Chiesi, President of Chiesi Farmaceutici – “At the same time, it forms the bases for the Group to consolidate its leadership in traditional therapeutic areas, such as respiratory diseases and neonatology, and continue developing its expertise in the treatment of rare diseases and advanced therapies.” The products: Foster® (BDP), Curosurf® (poractant alpha) and Clenil® (beclomethasone dipropionate) the Group’s three biggest products in terms of turnover, have achieved extremely positive results: Foster in particular has made a significant increase in market share in all the 47 markets where it has a direct presence or related brands. On the whole Foster®, Nexthaler® and related brands have generated total sales of over €420 million, up by around 24% on 2013. Curosurf® has further consolidated world leadership in the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in premature neonates, with sales of €175 million, up by 8.1% on 2013. Clenil®, which has been a well-respected product for decades in a number of markets, has generated sales for over €171 million and is up by 5.1% on the previous year. Investment: in addition to the above mentioned €237 million in Research and Development, the Group has invested €87 million in new industrial plants and €89 million for the acquisition of the total capital of Chiesi USA. This has generated significant results: a concerted push for the development of new products, an increase in production capacity for Foster Nexthaler (Blois plant) and Curosurf (Modena and Parma plants) needed to meet a growing demand, and a fully operative affiliate in the largest pharmaceutical market in the world. The global presence of the Group is also increasingly prominent: this is evident from the development of sales, 77% of which originate from outside the domestic market. “2014 was definitely an outstanding year in terms of financial results achieved,” – adds Ugo Di Francesco, CEO at Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A., “which are all the more commendable given that all the geographical areas contributed to reaching these results: the North – Central Europe (+12%), the Emerging Countries (+9.2%), South Europe (+4.6) and the USA (+8.4%), a market which we have gained by completing the acquisition of US company Cornerstone and which opens up key strategic prospects. The distribution of growth is confirmation of the validity of the Group’s long-term internationalisation strategy, thanks to which Chiesi’s products are highly valued in an ever-increasing number of markets. For Chiesi, 2014 was also a year for new innovative products in gene therapy (Glybera®, alipogene tiparvovec), regenerative medicine (Holoclar®, the first stem cell product approved in the western world) and the prevention of organ transplant rejection (Envarsus®, monohydrate tacrolimus), which further extend the Group’s portfolio and its cultural wealth. In the case of Glybera® and Holoclar® in particular it would not be inappropriate to talk of a pioneering approach to entirely new sectors in medicine, which provide therapeutic solutions for serious health problems that until recently represented unmet medical needs.”www.chiesigroup.com/en/chiesi-farmace...
Biotech: ‘Unprecedented Times,’ Not a Bubbleblogs.barrons.com/stockstowatchtoday/...
Science, patients driving rare disease drug research surgenews.yahoo.com/science-patients-drivi...

Flosz for PResident! ;-)
Volgt iemand van us Galapagos ?? Zelf beperkt ingelegd.
