Mortonki! Nieuwe maand, nieuwe kansen! Alle Nokia believers, good luck! Hyva iltaa!

Mijn volgend koersdoel 6,50.

Samsung extends the patent license agreement between Nokia and Samsung for five years; companies will enter into binding arbitration to settle the amount of additional compensation

    Nokia Corporation
    Stock exchange release
    November 4, 2013 at 09.30 (CET +1)

Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced that Samsung has extended a patent license agreement between Nokia and Samsung for five years. The agreement would have expired at the end of 2013. According to the agreement, Samsung will pay additional compensation to Nokia for the period commencing from January 1, 2014 onwards, and the amount of such compensation shall be finally settled in a binding arbitration which is expected to be concluded during 2015.

"This extension and agreement to arbitrate represent a hallmark of constructive resolution of licensing disputes, and are expected to save significant transaction costs for both parties", said Paul Melin, Chief Intellectual Property Officer of Nokia.

Nokia will retain its industry-leading patent portfolio following the proposed transaction to sell substantially all of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft and sees further opportunity to create value by investing in innovation, and by actively managing its patent portfolio and licensing activities.

NSN, China Mobile Research Institute jointly shape tomorrow’s mobile broadband
Expand memorandum of understanding for research on key technologies

Nokia Solutions and Networks and China Mobile Research Institute (CMRI), the research and development branch of China Mobile, have expanded their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), originally signed in 2010. Under the terms of the renewed agreement, the two parties will further their cooperation on research and standardization of advanced mobile broadband technologies in LTE as well as in 5G. The MoU reflects their vision of 2020 and outlines key focus areas for future mobile networks.

As devices become more sophisticated, new applications evolve, and more data is required at higher speeds, the global demand for mobile broadband will continue to grow exponentially in the next decade. To meet this challenge, NSN and CMRI are again joining forces to develop innovative technologies. These will help mobile operators provide an unmatched personal gigabyte* experience. The parties agree to enhance joint research, standardization, and prototype development activities in advanced technologies such as 5G, LTE deployment optimization, cloud-based radio access network (C-RAN), the innovative “Nanocell” concept for next-generation small cell deployments, coexistence of 2G / 4G and core virtualization.

“Significant reduction of the unit cost of bandwidth is the key to success of future mobile networks,” said Bill Huang, General Manager of CMRI. “The alignment of NSN’s and CMRI’s technology vision on the future mobile networks is an important foundation for our long-term successful partnership. We are delighted to expand our MoU with NSN, the world’s specialist in mobile broadband, to keep pushing the limits of technology, shape the telco industry and explore new ways of helping operators reduce operational costs.”

“China Mobile Research Institute has paved the way for industry innovation in various aspects including TD-LTE, cloud-based RAN, IPv6 and packet networks. Since the outset, NSN and CMRI have consistently expanded and reinforced their collaboration to focus on leading research activities and to drive innovation and development of 4G technology and beyond,” said Markus Borchert, president of NSN Greater China. “We are proud of our long-term commitment to China, especially in the area of TD technology development, and specifically TD-LTE. Our leading global position in LTE, built on our strong technological capabilities and combined with our local service resources, makes us a strong partner for operators in China and globally.”

NSN and CMRI have successfully driven cooperative research on TD technologies and standards. During the past three years, the parties jointly supported TD-LTE global market development, defined the innovative “Nanocell” concept for next-generation small cell deployments, and researched cloud-based RAN extensively. The two parties are further building their research on these proven technologies.

E-Plus Group chooses NSN to enhance network security
    Düsseldorf, Germany – November 5, 2013

NSN secures all-IP network, safeguards customer data, protects assets

Germany's mobile operator E-Plus Group has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks to protect its 4G LTE network from unauthorized access, manipulation and other threats. NSN will implement a complete end-to-end, 3GPP-compliant security solution to ensure a safe, convenient mobile broadband experience for E-Plus subscribers. Further benefits include authentication of network elements and lower costs due to the automatic rollout and lifecycle management of base station certificates.

Security risks are mounting as operators move to all-IP networks. To minimize these threats and to protect both consumers and networks, dedicated measures are necessary. As the continuation of its partnership with NSN to roll out next-generation 4G LTE in Germany, the operator is addressing security concerns while meeting all market and regularotory requirements.

“At E-Plus we are deeply and fully committed to ensuring a secure telecommunications network environment for our subscribers,” said Gerhard Lüdtke, director Access Network at E-Plus Group. “NSN, our trusted partner for two decades, has deep knowledge of our network and proven competence in network security. Thanks to NSN’s complete security solution for LTE, our subscribers will enjoy their mobile broadband free of the threat of fraud or espionage of personal data.”

“The implementation of solid security measures to protect networks and users from intrusion and attacks is an issue of growing importance,” said Ingo Goldenberg, account director at NSN. “We are pleased to strengthen our excellent customer relationship with E-Plus by implementing our advanced security solution, which offers comprehensive protection combined with high performance and availability.”

Under the contract, NSN will deliver its radio access security solution, comprising a Security Gateway and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to ensure that only operator-authorized base stations can access the network. Efficient operation is achieved through fully automated certificate lifecycle management.

NSN has ISO 27001 Lead Auditor certification and is market leader in protecting advanced mobile broadband networks. With its team of security experts who have earned industry-recognized ISACA certifications such as CISA and CISM, the company has successfully implemented more than 500 security projects worldwide. Security deployments from NSN can be found in nearly one-third of commercially launched 4G networks.

    About E-Plus Group
The E-Plus Group is the challenger on the German mobile communications market. Simple services tailored to customer needs and a major reduction in call and data charges can be traced back to the initiative of the third-largest mobile network operator by subscribers in Germany. After revolutionizing the voice market for larger user groups now the company opens the mobile data market for the masses by its accelerated network roll-out and highly attractive low-priced data tariff schemes. As a result of innovative business models, modern structures and strong partnerships the E-Plus Group was able to strengthen its market position and show a dynamic and profitable development. Since 2005 E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG has developed into a family of brands offering target group-specific services and thus breaks new ground in mobile communications in Germany. The E-Plus Group brands include the flat rate brand BASE, leading mobile discounters simyo and blau and the original E-Plus brand that offers a wide range of services to its customers. The ethnic brands AY YILDIZ and Ortel Mobile address customers with foreign origin in Germany. And the latest addition yourfone.de has opened the market for all-net flat-rates in the postpaid segment. The partners of the E-Plus group include many other brands, such as MEDIONmobile (ALDI TALK) and music TV station MTV. 24.8 million customers are using the network of the E-Plus Group to make calls and send text messages or data. The Group generates annual revenues of €3.4 billion (2012) and employs more than 4,000 people (FTE) in Germany.

    @gpjf
