Hardt Hyperloop Bags Brussels's First Hyperloop Investment Package Strategic Research Institute Published on : 05 Nov, 2021, 5:39 am Hardt Hyperloop, the Dutch company working on the development of the hyperloop, has been awarded 15 million euros by the European Commission. It is the first time that a hyperloop company has received such financial support from Brussels. The EIC Accelerator funds were awarded by the European Innovation Council and will help Hardt and its public and private partners to accelerate the development of the hyperloop. This award demonstrates the European Commission's recognition of the hyperloop as an important key to achieving Europe's sustainability goals. Tim Houter, co-founder of Hardt Hyperloop, sees this investment as a validation: “It's great to have now gained the trust of the European Commission. Their support will help to accelerate the development of a European hyperloop network, bringing us much closer to significant CO2 savings. European cities will be connected smarter, faster and cheaper.” The granting of this large sum of money will give the current developments of the hyperloop and the European Hyperloop Centre in Groningen a significant boost. "The support from the EU is a major breakthrough," says Houter. "Now that Brussels is also on board, there is support at all levels, regional, national and continental.” The European Hyperloop Center is being developed in close collaboration with the Province and Municipality of Groningen and is pivotal because it will demonstrate lane-switching for high-speed hyperloop in 2023. Lane-switching is the key to a hyperloop network that can offer direct journeys without the need for intermediate stops. A pilot project involving freight transport between the busiest freight hubs in the Netherlands, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, is investigated by companies, governments and network organisations. Houter: “A great next step after the European Hyperloop Center would be to establish a first route in the Netherlands within this decade. If this route is realised in the Netherlands, we will be on track to achieving a broad European hyperloop network that can save 160 Megatonnes of CO2 on an annual basis, more than the entire CO2 emissions of the Netherlands.” Hardt is a hyperloop company that was founded in 2016, and has emerged from the winning team from the TU Delft in Elon Musk’s hyperloop competition.

COYO’s self-directed programme of study enables young people to explore a range of themes that will impact and influence major infrastructure projects in the near future, including cyber security, net zero carbon and environmental issues, digital twins, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

POSCO to Supply Steel for Hyperloop Tube Project in Netherlands Strategic Research Institute Published on : 13 May, 2022, 5:12 am South Korean steel giant POSCO announced that it will supply 2,075 tonne of hot rolled PosLoop 355 hyperloop steel tubes to Dutch company HARDT Hyperloop by 2025 for the Netherlands’s Hyperloop Development Program, a private-public partnership to develop the futuristic high-speed transportation system hyperloop. POSCO will initially supply 275 tonnes from July 2022 to December 2023 for a 450-meter test track at European hyperloop test facility in Groningen European Hyperloop Center. TATA Steel Netherlands, which co-developed the PosLoop 355 with POSCO, will be supplying the same amount as POSCO. South Korean SeAH Steel Holdings Corp will be welding 63 tonnes of the 275 tonnes of POSCO’s initial supply into a tube shape before they are shipped to the Netherlands. It will provide an additional 1,800 tonnes of steel needed to extend the test track to 2.7 kilometers by 2025. PosLoop 355 has 1.7 times the damping capacity of ordinary steel and has excellent seismic performance. Hyperloop is a futuristic form of high-speed ground transportation where passengers and goods are carried in magnetic levitation pod-like capsules at speeds of more than 1,000 kilometers per hour through low-pressure tubes close to vacuum status. The energy consumption level of the hyperloop is only 8% of an aircraft and construction costs are 50% of a highway.
HyperloopTT Marks Critical Milestone with Hitachi Rail Strategic Research Institute Published on : 05 Jul, 2022, 6:30 am Hitachi Rail & HyperloopTT have achieved an important milestone towards the commercial running of the innovative system that will be able to run at speeds of up to 1,200 kilometers per hour with the completion of proof of concept for a cloud-based ERTMS signalling system for HyperloopTT’s capsules. Working from Hitachi Rail’s site in Naples, Italy, the partnership has successfully created a digital simulator that allows for the integrated testing of the traffic management, the signalling and some of the physical safety requirements of the hyperloop system and is now developing an interface with HTT’s simulators for functional integration. By replacing the capabilities of complex physical equipment with cloud-based software, the solution offers greater reliability, greater flexibility in deployment, cuts maintenance costs and is more sustainable. The simulator can also help to make HyperloopTT more efficient by automating repetitive tasks and detecting and managing potential disruptions, instead of reacting to events as they occur. The partnership is based on the system on ERTMS and European Train Control System Level 2 signalling technology to simulate the regulation and control of capsules moving at very high speeds. ERTMS has the benefit of being used and recognised internationally, making it highly interoperable, thereby allow HyperloopTT systems to operate safely across the world without the need to create new standards. Having completed the simulation model the next step in the process would be to digitally integrate both the signalling infrastructure and the cloud-based model for the physical capsules. This would open the door to moving to physical testing of the whole system at HyperloopTT’s test track in Toulouse. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is an innovative transportation and technology company focused on realizing the hyperloop, a system that moves people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably by bringing airplane speeds to the ground. Through the use of unique, patented technology and an advanced collaborative business model, HyperloopTT is creating the first new form of transportation in over a century. HyperloopTT’s European Research and Development Center in Toulouse, France, the aerospace capital of Europe, is home to the world’s first and only full-scale test system. In 2019, HyperloopTT released the first comprehensive feasibility study analyzing a hyperloop system, which found that the system is economically and technically feasible and will generate a profit without requiring government subsidies.
Tata Steel to Supply Zeremis Carbon Lite for Hardt Hyperloop Strategic Research Institute Published on : 26 Sep, 2022, 6:31 am Tata Steel Europe and Hardt Hyperloop have signed a contract for the delivery of Zeremis Carbon Lite, steel with an allocated carbon footprint reduction of up to 100% at InnoTrans in Berlin. The lower CO2 intensity is independently verified by assurance expert DNV. The purpose of Zeremis Carbon Lite is to accelerate CO2 emission saving projects even faster and we are looking at every possibility, for example the use of bio-coal, green HBI and hydrogen in our current assets. But we will also push the boundaries of scrap usage even further. Steel is the essential material needed to build strong, lightweight tubes for the hyperloop that can withstand an internal low air pressure with sufficient rigidity. Therefore, Tata Steel joined forces with steelmaker POSCO from Korea in 2020 to work on the development of high-quality steel grades customized for this very purpose. The ultimate goal is to achieve a 50% weight reduction compared to a tube with conventional technology. This is done by developing new steel qualities for spirally welded pipes, but also by creating completely new pipe designs. Tata Steel has been supporting Hardt Hyperloop since its first stages. In July 2022, Tata Steel announced the delivery of the first batch of a new steel product tailor-made for the hyperloop. The first tubes that were made using the certified low CO2 steel will now be field tested in the European Hyperloop Center in Groningen, the Netherlands. People are travelling further and more frequently than ever before. At the same time, there is a growing need and awareness to reduce energy consumption and transport emissions. Tata Steel is therefore working in close cooperation with customers and partners to bring new, fast and energy-efficient mobility concepts to life. One of those technologies is Hardt Hyperloop, a high-speed, sustainable transportation system for people and goods.
