Xeikon, an innovator in digital color printing technology, announces its presence at Labelexpo Europe 2013. This year's edition, which is returning to Brussels Expo in Belgium 24-27 September, will be Xeikon's strongest-ever label trade show presence. Located on its stand 9H45, Xeikon will demonstrate its hardware and software solutions that have positioned the company as leader in the digital label market. Xeikon is also a sponsor of the Package Printing Zone in Hall 12. “We are especially excited about exhibiting at Labelexpo Europe 2013,” says Filip Weymans, Director Business Development and Marketing Labels and Packaging at Xeikon. “The historic size of the show makes it a terrific opportunity to continue our mission of educating the label and packaging markets about the benefits of digital printing. In that spirit, we are launching an innovative program called "See The Proof" that gives converters first-hand experience with the technology and see the outstanding quality for themselves.” NEW: See The Proof campaign The See The Proof program gives label converters worldwide a low threshold way of testing and evaluating the quality of digital printing of their own label projects. Participants will have the opportunity to upload their own label files onto a dedicated website; www.SeeTheProof.com. Labels will be printed on five different substrates – including a PE substrate using Xeikon's brand-new ICE toner – and can be retrieved at the Xeikon stand during Labelexpo Europe. Label converters interested to participate can see how easy that is in this movie: vimeo.com/68225630. NEW: introduction ICE Toner Labelexpo Europe will also mark the next-step in Xeikon's unique dry toner technology with the launch of the new ICE toner. “We are delighted to be introducing a new, breakthrough in dry toner technology at the show,” Weymans continues. “Xeikon ICE is the first dry toner capable of printing on PE, a label substrate that is particularly important in the health & beauty segment where brand owners seek not only exceptional shelf appeal, but durability through the life of the product as it is handled by the consumer.” More info about the new ICE toner are available in the press release: hwww.xeikon.com/news/xeikon-introduces-new-groundbreaking-ice-toner. Most productive digital label presses At Labelexpo Europe, Xeikon will feature its 3300 and 3500 digital label presses that excel in productivity and high quality printing. The Xeikon 3300, built around the commonly used 330 mm/13” web width, will be running with inline converting unit, including a laser from GM. The Xeikon 3500 allows the use of material up to 516mm/20.3” wide, and will be running in a roll to roll configuration. Successful in a wide variety of market segments, Xeikon will demonstrate the capabilities of its digital label presses by printing labels used for Wine & Spirits, Industrial, Pharma, Health & Beauty, Food, and Beverage applications.
vervolg More Than Hardware “The Xeikon 3300 and 3500 are powerful additions to any converter’s production platform,” explains Weymans. “But we also understand that installing a digital label press, in and of itself, is not enough. That is why we are committed to the development of a variety of software solutions that make the transition into digital easier for label converters while adding significant value for their customers. These tools and solutions will be on display in our Software Corner at the show.” Xeikon software solutions featured at Labelexpo Europe include: - ColorControl, a powerful cloud-based color management tool ensuring repeatable, predictable colors; - ColorMagic, a clever tool that saves label converters printing on clear substrates a significant amount of time in prepress; - Vectorizor, the missing link in a digital print and digital die-cut environment; - MyPress, the state-of-the-art user interface for the Xeikon X-800 digital front-end, built from the ground up and based on input from operators in the field. Web2Label Production Xeikon will also be demonstrating its unique Web2Label workflow, an all-in-one integrated solution to produce labels from online input through the integrated laser die cutting of labels. “One of the differences label converters find when they transition label production to digital is a large number of shorter run jobs that were not possible to produce using conventional manufacturing processes,” says Weymans. “Having a customer-facing web solution that allows customers to quickly and easily upload these jobs with the ability to funnel them directly into production is the only way to manage these smaller jobs profitably. With Web2Label, Xeikon offers a unique workflow to the on-demand label production process that ensures fast time to market, fewer touches and lower costs for the converter and his customers.” Short-Run Folding Cartons at the Package Printing Zone In Labelexpo’s popular Package Printing Zone in Hall 12, Xeikon will be demonstrating its folding carton solution with a Xeikon 3500 running the Alpine 516 fuser, with inline Bograma finishing unit. “While labels are moving to digital production more quickly than other packaging segments,” Weymans comments, “folding cartons are not far behind. With this innovative approach to end-to-end manufacturing for short-run folding cartons, Xeikon is bringing its digital printing expertise to the folding carton market as well.”
No experience, no problem TORONTO—Manon Chin, chief operating officer at Labels in Motion, spoke June 12 at the Xeikon Café in Toronto about how he successfully entered the label business without any prior experience. The Orlando, FL-based company is the in-house print shop of Xymogen, a nutritional supplement manufacturer. Chin convinced Xymogen to invest in a Xeikon 3500 to handle production of the company's customized labels for the nutraceutical market. 17 June 2013 Xeikon touts growth of packaging, labels TORONTO—Colour digital presses are "great" for printing labels and packaging and the market is growing, said Bob Leahey, associate director at Infotrends. The analyst spoke June 12, followed by a presentation by Labels in Motion's Manon Chin, at the Xeikon Café presented by Xeikon and distributor Canflexographics at the Toronto Hockey Hall of Fame. Bob Leahey addresses the Xeikon Café crowd at the Hockey Hall of Fame Leahey pointed to the success of Coca-Cola's "Share a Coke" campaign as an example of how brands can benefit from the capabilties of colour digital label and packaging (CDLP). The campaign, first launched 2011 in Australia and rolled out across Europe in May this year, featured personalized labels where the Coca-Cola logo was replaced by the most popular first-names found in each respective market. Leahey said the job started with a flexo or gravure template, followed by over-printing done by a colour digital press. According to Leahey, it was the largest colour digital print job ever in consumer labels, totalling 800 million versioned labels in three months and requiring upwards of 15 presses. The campaign created a strong consumer reaction that left some store shelves in disarray, he said. Aside from campaigns featuring personalization, markets that are good fits for CDLP include nutraceuticals, private labels and wines, which Leahey said lend themselves to short runs. As well, flexible packaging and carton work can flesh out a label printer's job load. The analyst said the market for CDLP is growing because vendors are pushing. They want to be in industrial applications like labels because other traditional markets, like newspapers, are in decline, and also because brand owners want leaner manufacturing within more targeted markets. Because of this, "label converters want short-run tools, and digital is ideal," he said. Companies also want printing that supports the growing trend of 1:1 marketing, and printers need a digital press to meet that need. Versioning is in demand with companies that want to reach multiple ethnic groups with labels in different languages. "Go to Europe and it's dozens of languages, sometimes even in one country," Leahey said. Inkjet presses are "getting better" and are especially good for durable labels, Leahey noted. The technology is scalable and key companies are flying the inkjet flag. Also, the price for colour digital presses is relatively high in the hundreds of thousands. But, overall and especially in short-runs, colour digital is growing within more and more markets and it is important to educate brand owners about this trend and the technology's benefits, he said.

Still Struggling, but Rebound from Q4-2012 By Dr. Joe Webb on June 21st, 2013 US commercial printing profits rebounded from their tough fourth quarter of 2012, where the industry showed a loss of -$400 million. Profits for the first quarter of 2013 were +$850 million. Excluding the losses in Q4-2011 and Q4-2012, Q1 profits were the lowest positive quarter since Q1-2010. These data have been inflation-adjusted. We prefer to look at inflation-adjusted shipments as a 4-quarter moving total since profits can fluctuate significantly. The chart below shows that profits have had trouble getting above the lows of 2005. (click chart to enlarge). The black line indicates the lows of 2005.Note that profits are staying positive, while industry revenues are declining. This usually means that unprofitable printers are exiting the market, and their poor performance is no longer included in industry profit levels. While it’s far more glamorous to talk about industry consolidation in terms of mergers and acquisitions, the exiting of profitless firms through closure or bankruptcy is far more common.

Reality Hits Print Finishing Manufacturers By Don Piontek | Posted on July 01, 2013 Last week, the world's largest manufacturer of print finishing equipment, Müller Martini, announced a major re-structuring plan for the firm. Over the last 10 years, Müller has seen its annual revenues of a billion euros slide to about a third of that today. Obviously, they had to confront a contracting finishing market. As part of the re-organization effort, up to 550 employees may lose their jobs. Müller is not the only finishing manufacturer facing tough times. As the printing industry consolidates, there is a small flood of very recent vintage saddle-stitchers, folders, perfect binders, collators, diecutters, and other bindery machinery on the market as the result of closed shops. These can typically be acquired at close to fire-sale prices. This presents a difficult challenge when you're trying to close a sale on new equipment and you're up against a two-year-old system that's less than half your price. On the digital side of the coin, things are going well. I had a conversation last week with a digital print-on-demand specialist at a well-known post-press supplier who told me that they were closing orders at the rate of about $400K a week. This is an order intake rate that many manufacturers would die for. So we arrive at two conclusions. One, most traditional offset finishing suppliers are facing a shrinking market which will almost certainly force them to downsize. Yes, there are the new markets (China, India, etc.). But they face very tough competition in these from local suppliers. Two, the growth exists in supplying digital finishing solutions that address the unique needs of that segment. The real challenge is in what these traditional bindery systems manufacturers bring to the digital table. It's not a "quick-study" project. Digital finishing varies in its methodology from offset. And...there are existing (and entrenched) suppliers who have been servicing the digital market for many years now. Müller Martini was among the first to address digital finishing, and they did it well. It remains to be seen how many of the other offset bindery systems manufacturers will make a successful transition.

gaat mijn voorspelling dan echt uitkomen!! ???
5,10 straks handelsonderbreking???
Gr
