EverWind Fuels Selects Nel for Point Tupper Project FEED Study Strategic Research Institute Published on : 13 May, 2022, 6:30 am Developer of green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage facilities and transportation assets EverWind Fuels LLC has announced that it has acquired the NuStar storage terminal in Point Tupper in Nova Scotia. EverWind intends to expand and develop the Point Tupper site to be the location of a regional green hydrogen hub for Eastern Canada, including new green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities. These facilities will create new clean energy jobs, help support Nova Scotia’s carbon emissions reduction targets, and establish Nova Scotia as a global leader in the production of green hydrogen for domestic and export markets. The Point Tupper site is ideally positioned to produce green hydrogen as early as 2025, supported by significant existing in-place infrastructure. Point Tupper has an existing ice-free, deep-water port with 27-meter depth and two berths which are capable of accommodating the largest vessels in the world. The port is the deepest in Nova Scotia and the surrounding region. In addition, the Point Tupper site has existing rail loading facilities and is adjacent to pipeline networks to support domestic and regional markets. Electricity transmission is available at the site as well as 7.7 million barrels of liquids storage and abundant freshwater, which is adjacent to the site.
CS Energy & Senex to Build Hydrogen Pilot Plant in Queensland Strategic Research Institute Published on : 13 May, 2022, 6:30 am CS Energy and Senex Energy have signed a deal to develop the Kogan Renewable Hydrogen Demonstration Plant near Chinchilla in Queensland. Under the joint venture agreement, CS Energy will operate and hold 75 per cent equity in the plant, while Senex Energy will hold 25 per cent equity in the plant. This green hydrogen will be used in the latest stop in Hydrogen Superhighway established with New South Wales and Victoria and help develop Australia’s energy independence via the transport sector. The Kogan Renewable Hydrogen Demonstration Plant is a green hydrogen production facility that will be built next to CS Energy’s Kogan Creek Power Station. The project will include the co-location of a solar farm, battery, hydrogen electrolyser, hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen storage and out loading facility. IHI Engineering Australia has been appointed to construct the plant, with work due to start on site in September this year. Eurus Energy Invests in Energy Estate's Hunter Hydrogen Network Strategic Research Institute Published on : 13 May, 2022, 6:30 am Energy Estate and Japan's Eurus Energy have signed an agreement that will have the renewable energy developer take an investment stake in the AUD 2 billion Hunter Hydrogen Network H2N. The project devised by advisory firm and business accelerator Energy Estate is a large-scale green hydrogen production and pipeline project. It aims to supply low-cost hydrogen for downstream hydrogen derivative products such as sustainable aviation fuels, ammonia and liquid hydrogen destined for Japan and Korea, as well as domestic use. The project's pipeline will form the backbone infrastructure that will help position the Hunter Valley as Australia's first hydrogen valley. On completion of the transaction (which is subject to Financial Investment Review Board approval), Eurus and Energy Estate will form the H2N Development Joint Venture to continue the development of the Hunter Hydrogen Network, with Energy Estate as the lead developer and Eurus as the co-developer. The Hunter Hydrogen Network is part of a far broader hydrogen platform being developed by Energy Estate, including HyNQ Clean Energy Project in North Queensland and Hydrogen City Texas which recently announced a large scale electrolyser manufacturing memorandum of understanding with Hydrogen Optimised. Eurus Energy Group, a global renewable energy independent power producer and developer, is jointly owned by Toyota Tsusho Corporation and the Tokyo Electric Power Company.

Het was al langer geweten dat de groep een gigafabriek in Europa wilde bouwen, maar nu laat de voorzitter van de hernieuwbare-energieafdeling van de groep Raphaël Tilot weten dat die in België zal komen. Elektrolysers worden gebruikt om water te splitsen in zuurstof en de energiedrager waterstof. De industriële groep John Cockerill (het voregere CMI-Cockerill) uit Seraing richt haar pijlen reeds enkele jaren op de productie van waterstof. In 2019 ging het hiervoor de samenwerking aan met een partner uit China, waar het nu 2 gigawatt aan productiecapaciteit per jaar kan produceren. Ook in India wil de groep een grote fabriek tegen 2024 operationeel hebben en overweegt het meteen ook de planning van een tweede. Cockerill bekijkt daarnaast of een gigafabriek in het Midden-Oosten haalbaar is. Maar ook in Europa zet de groep in op de productie van elektrolysers, zeker nu waterstof zo’n prominente rol heeft gekregen in de Europese klimaatplannen. Schaeffler, Bekaert, TNO & JM Join for Hydrogen Technology Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am Leading global supplier to the automotive and industrial sectors Schaeffler & global leader in sustainable technologies Johnson Matthey have partnered with leading PTL supplier for PEM electrolysers Bekaert & leading independent research institute in the field of hydrogen TNO to develop cells with the components optimized to work together for a step-change in efficiency to be used within electrolysis. The consortium brings together each company’s leading individual capabilities to drive forward next generation technologies to reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen and improve component efficiency. The shared research programme will run over the next three years. The consortium’s goal is to accelerate Proton Exchange Membrane technology development, by optimizing the most important components of the electrolyser stack. This will ultimately support the development of the next generation of PEM electrolysers, enabling lower electricity consumption, cheaper hydrogen production and smaller footprint. The team will also investigate more efficient use of scarce critical elements and components which offer increased efficiency over today’s electrolysers. To achieve this, the partners will collaborate in a shared research programme which will span three years and lay the foundation for a highly efficient, durable and lower cost generation of electrolysers. This is part of the VoltaChem program, a business-driven Shared Innovation Program that supports the chemical industry, the energy sector, and equipment suppliers & licensors to move towards a climate neutral future. This leading international consortium of Schaeffler, Bekaert, Johnson Matthey and TNO will jointly work on the shared research. To further accelerate, the research programme is open to new participants.
GAIL to Set Up 4 Tonne Hydrogen Project at Guna in MP Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am GAIL (India) Limited has awarded a contract to set up one of the largest Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyser in India. The project would be installed at GAIL’s Vijaipur Complex in Guna District of Madhya Pradesh, and would be based on renewable power. The Project has been designed to produce around 4.3 tonnes of Hydrogen per day (10 MW capacity) with a purity of about 99.999 Volume %. It is scheduled to be commissioned by November 2023. Earlier, in January this year, GAIL had commenced India’s first-of-it’s-kind project of mixing Hydrogen into Natural Gas system. Hydrogen blended Natural Gas is being supplied to one of GAIL’s Joint Venture company with HPCLAvantika Gas Limited, which is a City Gas Distribution company operating in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Till date, GAIL has been successful in blending upto 2% (v/v) hydrogen in natural gas in the CGD network.
Hyzon Motors to Launch Repower Program for Hydrogen Trucks Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am Global supplier of zero-emissions hydrogen and fuel cell powered commercial vehicles Hyzon Motors is finding new ways to bring zero-emission vehicles to roads sooner. Hyzon plans to allow customers to exchange their used diesel truck chassis for conversion to fuel cell electric operation. After removing diesel components, these used trucks will be upfitted with the company’s proprietary fuel cell system, electric drivetrain, and hydrogen storage system through collaboration with Fontaine Modification. Hyzon projects that the Repower program will be a more efficient method by which fleets decouple from diesel, putting clean trucks on the road sooner. Current lead time for new vehicle chassis ordered today is up to 16 months. Hyzon expects to Repower vehicles much more quickly, since the company will have direct access to the existing chassis. Repowering an existing vehicle is also expected to reduce customer costs, leading to Total Cost of Ownership at or below diesel parity in California, as a result of available subsidies. Additionally, the Repower program avoids waste and manufacturing carbon emissions generated by asset renewal. Hyzon’s 200 kW hydrogen fuel cell Repower truck, based on the most powerful fuel cell stack Hyzon has developed, will begin testing by end of 2022; these heavy duty fuel cell systems will be produced in the company’s Bolingbrook facility in Illinois.
Daimler Truck & Cummins Join for Hydrogen Trucks in US Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am Global power & hydrogen technologies leader Cummins Inc and US’s largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer Daimler Truck North America are collaborating to upfit and validate Freightliner Cascadia trucks with a Cummins hydrogen fuel cell powertrain for use in North America Freightliner will leverage Cummins’ fourth generation fuel cell powertrain, which provides improved power density, efficiency and durability. The joint effort will support both organizations’ goals to reduce emissions across product offerings and operations. Upon successful validation, the companies intend to have initial units available in 2024 for selected customers.
Oman to Set Up Hydrogen Development Oman Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am Oman will set up a new state-owned company Hydrogen Development Oman to manage the rising number of green hydrogen projects being planned or developed in the country. HDO will probably be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oman's state-owned Energy Development Oman, which itself was established in December 2020 in part to aid the country's transition from hydrocarbons to renewable energy. Oman is working to formulate the legislative and regulatory framework needed to support investments in the hydrogen sector. State-owned OQ is pursuing a number of hydrogen-related projects, but it is unclear what relationship it will ultimately have with HDO. Since May 2021, when OQ announced plans to develop the country's first green hydrogen project, Oman has signed a number of agreements with international investors and companies to develop a host of hydrogen projects and the hydrogen industry.
EC Supports 10 Fold Increase in Electrolyser Capacities Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am European Commissioner for Internal Market Mr Thierry Breton & European electrolyser manufacturers met in Brussels to discuss how to increase industry's capacity to produce electrolysers used to produce clean hydrogen. The Commissioner and 20 industry CEOs signed a Joint Declaration whereby industry committed to a tenfold increase of its electrolyser manufacturing capacities by 2025. This will enable the annual EU production of 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, set as target in the March 2022 REPowerEU Communication. It will improve Europe's sustainable and secure energy supply and reduce EU's reliance on Russian gas. The Joint Declaration sets out a target agreed by electrolyser manufacturers in Europe to increase their manufacturing capacity tenfold to 17.5 GW per year. It also features Commission actions to put in place a supportive regulatory framework, facilitate access to finance and promote efficient supply chains. First Hydrogen Vehicle Testing to Commence in September 2022 Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am First Hydrogen Corp announced that its two MAN-based fuel cell-powered light commercial demonstrator vehicles, equipped with Ballard Power Systems fuel cells and currently being built by AVL Powertrain UK, are on schedule to commence operational testing next month. These two vehicles are expected to be road legal by September 2022, allowing for trials with major fleet operators. It is anticipated that these trials will be carried out with a significant number of fleet operators and buyers based on the interest which has already been generated. These trials will serve to enhance product development and create customer engagement and partnerships around First Hydrogen Automotive's future fleets of LCVs. The base vehicle is derived from a MAN eTGE van with parts of the Volkswagen Group & Ballard Fcgen-LCS hydrogen-powered fuel cell and hydrogen tanks have been integrated without any impact on the customer features of the van, such as interior space or load height. The resulting vehicles will have over 500km of range capability, based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure, versus a 115km range when compared to a base EV, with the same maximum speed. The refuelling time is typically five minutes."
Feasibility Study for 200-500 MW of TANGO Hydrogen in Chile to End Strategic Research Institute Published on : 17 May, 2022, 6:30 am GASCO, HyNewGen, Linde, Vopak & Port of Rotterdam are concluding a feasibility study for the development of a 200 to 500 MW green hydrogen project in Chile called Project TANGO, based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2021. The next steps in Project TANGO involve conceptual studies on the production and logistics capabilities to export to Europe, with an initial delivery of 172,000 tonnes of green ammonia a year starting in 2027, and a second production phase of 430,000 tonnes per year. As countries and companies work committed toward the climate goals for 2030 and 2050, the need for diversification of clean energy sources is becoming critical. Green hydrogen is seen as an essential element of the future renewable energy mix. Demand for green hydrogen is growing around the world, and Northwestern Europe is rapidly developing the necessary infrastructure for large-scale imports. South America ´s vast land and exceptional natural resources provide the opportunity to exponentially grow the renewable energy supply and meet the growing needs around the globe. Chile is home to some of the most exceptional natural resources on the planet. With the highest solar radiation in the desert in the north and strong and constant winds in the south, the country has the potential to become one of the cheapest producers of green hydrogen around the globe. TAQA’s Emirate Steel & Abu Dhabi Port Hydrogen Projects Progresing Strategic Research Institute Published on : 16 May, 2022, 6:30 am WAM reported that the green hydrogen projects of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company Taqa are progressing very well and that green hydrogen will play a significant role in the company's growing portfolio of renewables. Taqa’s Executive Director of Generation Mr Farid Al Awlaqi said "We are currently in the techno feasibility stage of the two green hydrogen projects that were announced in partnership with two local entities. There's no specific date that I can give you right now, but we are in advanced stages already. So, hopefully, you'll be hearing something very soon.” Taqa's is partnering with leading integrated steel maker Emirates Steel to develop a large-scale green hydrogen project enabling the first green steel produced in the MENA region. The second project is a partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports to develop an industrial scale green ammonia manufacturing and export facility in Abu Dhabi. The project with Emirates Steel will consider utilising green hydrogen to optimise clean steel production level. The hydrogen will enable green and low carbon steel manufacturing, saving energy while creating a sustainable and clean manufacturing process. Taqa–Abu Dhabi Ports project to develop industrial-scale green ammonia manufacturing and export facility will be fuelled by hydrogen produced from power generated by a 2 GW solar PV power plant. Taqa had announced that green hydrogen will form a valuable part of the company's 2030 strategy for growth, which includes growing its gross power capacity from 18 GW to 30 GW in the UAE and adding up to 15 GW internationally. This increase in capacity will focus on renewable energy, particularly solar PV, to comprise more than 30% of its generation portfolio by 2030, up from the current 5%.

Deze week besloot het kabinet dat brandstoffen die met behulp van groene waterstof zijn gemaakt, meetellen als hernieuwbare brandstofeenheden. De EU wil in 2027 van Russische energie af: dit zijn de plannen De Europese Commissie onthulde gisteren het REPowerEU Plan, een energiestrategie waarmee de Europese afhankelijkheid van Russische fossiele energie in 2027 verleden tijd moet zijn.
