Enel & QIA to Develop Renewables in Sub Saharan Africa Enel Green Power SpA signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority for a joint venture partnership aimed at financing, building and operating renewable projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. The parties also signed an agreement whereby QIA will acquire 50% of EGP’s stake in projects in operation and under construction in South Africa and Zambia with approximately 800 MW capacity. In this first phase, the transaction involves the acquisition by QIA of 50% of EGP’s stake in four projects under construction in South Africa and two plants in operation in the same country as well as in Zambia, for a total capacity equal to approximately 800 MW. The overall transaction is subject to the change of control approval and antitrust clearance from relevant institutions and regulatory authorities. Under the transaction, EGP and QIA will form a new legal entity for future developments in Sub-Saharan Africa. After closing, all legal entities may be merged into a sole joint venture company. Under the agreement, EGP will be responsible for the development of each project and the joint venture has the right to invest in the projects following the successful completion of the development phase by EGP and receipt of any required regulatory approvals. At that point, the joint venture will be in charge of financing and building the new renewable projects. This overall transaction is in the framework of the “Stewardship” businessmodel, in line with the Group’s Strategic Plan for 2021-2023, whereby the Group provides key services, products or know-how enabled by platforms catalyzing investments of third parties to maximize value creation. EGP, including through its local subsidiaries, will support each project in the joint venture, in relation to the funding, construction and operation activities. The initial portfolio, for an overall installed capacity of about 800 MW, consists of one plant already in full operation in Zambia (the Ngonye PV plant, of 34 MW), one recently-connected plant in South Africa (the 148 MW Nxuba wind farm), and four projects under construction (for a total of 587 MW), namely the South African wind farms of Oyster Bay (148 MW), Garob (145 MW), Karusa (147 MW) as well as Soetwater (147 MW). These plants hold long-term power purchase agreements. Oyster Bay, Karusa, Soetwater and Garob are expected to start operating during 2021. In South Africa, Enel Green Power will retain ownership of more than 500 MW including the wind farms Nojoli (88 MW) and Gibson Bay (111 MW), as well as solar plants Upington (10 MW), Adams (82.5 MW), Pulida (82.5 MW), Tom Burke (66 MW), Paleishuewel (82.5 MW). Siemens Gamesa Bags Order from Assela Wind Farm in Ethiopia Siemens Gamesa has signed its first wind power project in Ethiopia with state-owned electricity company Ethiopian Electric Power. The 100MW Assela wind farm will be located between the towns of Adama and Assela, approximately 150 km south of the capital Addis Ababa and will contributetoclean and affordable powerfor the country’s electricity grid. The wind farm will be made up of 29 SG3.4-132 wind turbines and is expected to be commissioned by the start of 2023.The project will generate about 300,000 MWh per year. Siemens Gamesa will provide full engineering, procurement, and turnkey construction. The Assela wind project will be financed by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Danida Business Finance adding to a loan agreementsigned between the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation and Danske Bank A/S. Siemens Gamesa Bags Order from Hanbaram Wind Power in Vietnam Siemens Gamesa and its EPC partner SEPEC-China Energy have secured a 100 MW onshore order with Vietnamese independent power producer Hanbaram Wind Power JSC, a second order following a recent maiden 117 MW order as the local developer expands its renewables portfolio to meet booming national demand. Located in Gia Lai province, the Hung Hai wind farm will feature 25 units of its Siemens Gamesa 4.X platform in the 145 meters rotor diameter variant, which are among the most powerful turbines in the Vietnamese market. The project is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2021. With a total of 217 MW, the two onshore projects will generate electricity to power the demands of approximately 460,000 locals, helping to ease Vietnam’s power shortages. ROSATOM Starts Kochubeyevskaya Wind Farm in Russia In December 2020, ROSATOM commissioned the largest wind farm in Russia. Since January this year, the Kochubeyevskaya Wind Farm has been supplying electricity and power to the Wholesale Electricity and Power Market and has become the second completed project of NovaWind JSC, the Rosatom’s division responsible for wind energy projects, and the largest operating wind farm in Russia. The Kochubeyevskaya Wind Farm in the Stavropol Krai with an installed capacity of 210 MW consists of 84 wind turbine generators. Local content of facility equipment, as confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, amounts to 65%. ROSATOM is currently implementing a program for wind farm construction at three more sites in the Stavropol Krai and the Rostov Region. In total, until 2024, ROSATOM will commission wind farms with a total capacity of approximately 1.2 GW. Source - Strategic Research Institute
ROSATOM Gets Permit for Medvezhenskaya Wind Farm Construction ROSATOM’s NovaWind JSC’s VetroSGC-2 has obtained the permit for the construction of the Medvezhenskaya wind farm with a total capacity of 60 MW in the territory of Trunovskiy urban district in the Stavropol Krai. The receipt of the permit was preceded by a positive opinion of design document expert examination issued by the State Expertise in Construction, the Stavropol Krai Autonomous Institution, for the construction of a wind farm that includes 24 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.5 MW each. Successful expert examination confirms that the design documents for construction facilities comply with the site investigation results and the requirements specified in all technical regulations, in particular environmental, sanitary, epidemiological, fire safety requirements, regulatory and technical documentation and the Urban Development Code of the Russian Federation. The Stavropol Krai is a key region for the projects implemented by NovaWind JSC. Today, Kochubeyevskaya Wind Farm, the country’s largest wind power plant with a capacity of 210 MW is in operation in the region, and two more wind farms with a total capacity of about 180 MW are under construction. NovaWind JSC is the ROSATOM division responsible for wind energy projects. In total, by 2024, enterprises within NovaWind JSC will have to create wind farms with a total capacity of about 1.2 GW. ROSATOM & Gazprombank Expand Cooperation in Wind Energy Gazprombank and ROSATOM’s VetroSGC-2 JSC announced the final closure of a complex bank financing deal for a wind power plant project in Russia with a total installed capacity of 340 MW. The commissioning date for the last wind power plant is scheduled for December 2022. As part of the deal, Gazprombank will provide VetroSGC-2 with financing in the amount of 40 billion rubles for a period of 12 years. Gazprombank also gained a 49.5% share in the capital of the project company VetroSGC-2. The controlling stake in VetroSGC-2 remains in the ownership of ROSATOM entities. Since 2017, the Bank has been financing the first ROSATOM project for the construction of 660 MW of green capacity, 360 MW of which has already been commissioned, and the remaining 300 MW is planned to be put into operation by the end of this year. NovaWind is a specially established wind energy project division of ROSATOM, and its main task is to consolidate ROSATOM’s efforts in the frontend segments and technological platforms of electricity generation. The company was established in September 2017. Enterprises within NovaWind focus on the management of all ROSATOM competencies in wind energy sector – from wind farm design and construction to power engineering and operation. GE Renewable to Build Wind Farm in Lâm Ðong in Vietnam GE Renewable Energy announced that it has been awarded a contract by Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company to supply a total of 15 of GE’s 4 MW-137 wind turbines to support construction of the Cau Dat Wind Farm, the first wind farm in Lâm Ð?ng Province in Vietnam. The contract also provides a 10-year full service O&M agreement for operation and maintenance of the wind farm. The GE 4.0-137 is a 4 MW power output wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 137 meters is an uprate of GE’s 3 MW platform family with the same proven hardware and improved performance of the system providing higher energy production. The turbines, which will have a hub height of 111.5m, are ideally suited to exploit the wind conditions in the mountainous range of Lâm Ð?ng province in the Central Highland region of Vietnam. This is the first partnership with Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company. Both companies have been working closely for a year on wind farm design, layout, transportation and engineering. Construction of the Cau Dat Wind farm, which is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2021, will provide immense benefits for the economy of the province creating jobs during the initial construction period and ongoing employment opportunities in operations, maintenance and project support services throughout the agreement period. Vestas Secures 126 MW EnVentus Order in Ukraine Vestas announced it has signed the first EnVentus order in the Eastern Europe region for the 126 MW DTEK Tiligulska project in Ukraine, building on a track record of 660 MW already installed by Vestas in Ukraine. The Tiligulska project is being developed by DTEK Renewables, for whom Vestas has also delivered three previous projects in Ukraine. This contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of 21 V162-6.0 MW wind turbines, alongside a long-term 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, enabling optimal power production throughout the project lifetime. The V162-6.0 MW turbines boast a swept area of over 20,000 m² and industry-leading energy production, while benefiting from the advanced modular design approach applied across Vestas’ EnVentus platform. DTEK Tiligulska wind project is located in the Mykolaiv Region of Ukraine, and is being developed by Tiligulska Wind Electric Plant LLC, a subsidiary company of DTEK Renewables, one of Ukraine’s leading renewable energy developers. Vestas has also delivered the 90 MW Botievska I and 110 MW Botievska II projects, and the 100 MW Orlivska project for DTEK Renewables in Ukraine. Siemens Gamesa to Supply 41 Turbines for Harapaki Wind Farm Siemens Gamesa will supply 41 of its wind turbines for New Zealand’s second largest wind farm to Meridian Energy, strengthening its leading position in the country’s wind energy market. Following its expected commissioning in 2023, the 176 MW Harapaki wind farm will generate sufficient renewable energy to power over 70,000 local average households and support New Zealand’s goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity generation by 2030. Additionally, Siemens Gamesa signed a 30-year long-term contract to provide operation and maintenance services, ensuring optimized performance of the wind farm. The wind farm will be developed by Meridian Energy, one of New Zealand’s largest listed companies and the country’s largest wind energy developer. Siemens Gamesa has already supplied 267 MW to Meridian, including West Wind, its largest operating wind farm (142.6 MW). As New Zealand strives for 100% renewable energy generation by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the role of electricity and wind energy in the aspirational transformation is increasingly recognized. Iberdrola Bolsters Presence in Japan's Offshore Wind Market Iberdrola has increased its commitment to the Japanese offshore wind market with a new 600-MW project, following the agreement with local developer Cosmo Eco Power and engineering firm Hitz to jointly develop the Seihoku-oki project in Aomori prefecture, in the northwest of the country. The Seihoku-oki offshore wind farm, under development, will enter round 2 of the capacity auction planned by the Japanese government between this year and 2022. Following the transaction - subject to the usual regulatory approvals - the project will be led by Iberdrola and Cosmo Eco Power, with similar voting rights, together with Hitz. The deal takes place six months after the acquisition of 100% of Japanese developer Acacia Renewables - which has a 3,300-MW offshore wind pipeline in the south of the country. It is the company's sixth offshore wind agreement since early 2020. Acacia Renewables has two offshore wind farms under development, with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW, which could be operational by 2028. It also has four other projects in the pipeline, with a total capacity of 2,100 MW. These six projects will be developed by Iberdrola together with Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG). With these operations, in line with Iberdrola's strategy of leading the offshore wind market, the company will be able to compete in rounds 2, 3 and 4 - the last two scheduled for 2023/2024 - of the capacity auctions announced by the Japanese government, positioning itself in the initial development stages of a market with great growth potential. Orsted Starts Installation of Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farms With all the permits and EIA approvals in place, Global offshore wind leader Orsted is moving full speed ahead with full-scale offshore construction activities of the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farms. Ørsted will begin laying export and array cables and installing the offshore substations and foundations in 2021 and will proceed with wind turbine installation next year. Located 35-60 km off the coast of Changhua County, the first large-scale and farshore offshore wind farms in Taiwan is scheduled to be finalized by 2022 and will provide clean energy to one million households. Ørsted has kicked off the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to prepare for cable laying and scour protection works to make the seabed ready for foundation installation. Moreover, Ørsted is progressing well with onshore construction, including completing the civil works of the two onshore substation main buildings and the upgrade work of the hinterland at wharfs 36 and 37 at the Port of Taichung for storing key components for offshore installation. Moreover, the offshore construction will be supported by a wide range of marine engineering, vessels suppliers, and personnel from home and abroad. It is estimated that during peak times, there will be more than 25 vessels mobilized, including crew transfer vessels, installation and support vessels, service operation vessels, and guard vessels as well as 500-800 people working at sea. In addition to offshore construction, Ørsted has been preparing for the operations and maintenance (O&M) work since 2019 and established a local O&M team with 21 Taiwanese O&M technicians, with four more expected to join in the near future. These technicians are currently under intensive professional O&M training and will be based at Ørsted's new O&M base at the Port of Taichung starting 2022. From there, they will use the first Taiwan-flagged service operation vessel to perform their O&M duties, ensuring optimal performance of the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm. GE Renewable Bags Wind Farm Project in Binh Thuan in Vietnam GE Renewable Energy has been awarded a contract by Vietnam Join-Stock Construction Electricity Corporation VNECO to supply a total of eight of GE’s 3.8-137 MW wind turbines to support construction of the Thuan Nhien Phong wind farm in Binh Thuan province, in the South-Central Coastal region of Vietnam. The contract also provides a 10-year full-service O&M agreement for operation and maintenance of the wind farm. The wind farm will be powered by eight of GE’s 3.8 MW platform with a 137-metre-rotor wind turbine, with a customized hub height of 131.4 metre towers that are ideally suited to take advantage of the wind conditions in Binh Thuan province. Vestas Bags 47 MW Order for Oritsume Minami 1 Wind Farm in Japan Vestas has secured a 47 MW order with Shimizu Corporation for the Oritsume Minami 1 Wind Farm in Iwate prefecture in Japan. Owned by Japan Renewable Energy Corporation, the wind project will be constructed by Shimizu Corporation and will feature 13 V105-3.45 MW turbines in 3.6 MW operating mode with 84-meter towers. Vestas will also undertake a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement for the wind farm, providing an energy-based availability guarantee to ensure optimised performance and long-term business case certainty for the customer. The Karmalinovskaya wind farm located in the Stavropol Krai, with an installed capacity of 60 MW, includes 24 wind turbine generators. Local content of facility equipment, as confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, amounts to 68%. Rosatom is currently implementing a program for wind farm construction at three more sites in the Stavropol Krai and the Rostov Region. Vestas to Expand Wind Power Capacity in Faroe Islands Vestas has secured an order for turbine supply at the 25 MW Torshavn onshore wind project, located just outside the capital of the Faroe Islands, from Vindrøkt Sp/f, a special purpose vehicle owned by Røkt and Effo. Six V117-4.2 MW Vestas turbines will power the Torshavn project, which will more than double the total wind energy capacity of the Faroe Islands. The turbines will rise to a hub height of 91.5m, and will have a high wind operation mode applied, due to mean wind speeds of over 9 m/s found at the site. Turbines are due to be delivered and commissioned by the end of 2021. Vestas will also provide service for the project through a long-term 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, providing power performance certainty and Vestas’ industry-leading service expertise throughout the lifetime of the project. Røkt and Effo, who were awarded the project capacity through the local state auction, are developing the Torshavn project. GE Onshore Wind Turbines for CleanMax Wind Hybrid Project in India GE Renewable Energy announced the supply of 42 units of 2.7-132 onshore wind turbines for the onshore wind hybrid projects to CleanMax totaling 110 MW. These wind farms will contribute significantly to India’s commitment to harness the majority of its electricity from renewable sources meeting its target of 175 GW of renewable energy (with 60 GW coming from wind) by 2022. GE’s 2.7-132 wind turbine is well suited to meet the needs of customers due to its efficiency in capitalizing on India’s low wind speeds. These projects will leverage GE’s significant local footprint in India with product design taking place primarily at GE’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru, blades being manufactured in GE’s plants in Vadodara and Bengaluru and assembly at the GE Multi-modal Manufacturing Facility in Pune. Total to Acquire Stake in Offshore Wind Project in Taiwan Total has signed an agreement with wpd to acquire a 23% interest in Yunlin Holding GmbH, the owner of Yunlin offshore wind farm located off the coast of Taiwan, around 200 kilometers southwest of Taipei. The project, currently under construction, represents production capacity of 640 megawatts and benefits from a 20-year guaranteed-price power purchase agreement with the state-owned company Taipower of USD 250/MWh for the first 10 years and USD 125/MWh for the following 10 years . For this acquisition of a 23% interest, Total will pay to wpd a consideration based on its share of past costs. Located around 10 kilometers offshore at water depths ranging from 7 to 35 meters, the wind farm will comprise 80 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 8 MW. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2022. Once on stream, the project will produce 2.4 terawatt hours (TWh) of renewable electricity per year, enough to serve the power needs of 605,000 households. Procurement of the main components has been finalized and marine works are under way. The project reached a major milestone with the installation of the first wind turbine on April 23. Identified by Taiwan’s authorities as a key area in the development of renewable energies, offshore wind power will be a significant contributor to the objective of generating 20% of its electricity from renewables by 2025 while fostering the emergence of a local wind power industry. Taiwan is one of the priority regions selected by Total for its development in offshore wind power in Asia. The project is currently 48%-owned by wpd, 25% by EGCO (Electricity Generating Public Company Limited) and 27% by a consortium of Japanese investors led by Sojitz (Sojitz Corporation, ENEOS Corporation, Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko Corporation and Shikoku Electric Power). The acquisition, which is subject to government approval, will broaden the Group’s portfolio of offshore wind projects under development and construction, that currently represents a cumulative capacity of about 5.5 GW.
