    TomTom wins exclusive deal to deliver real-time traffic information to British Automobile Association website

    Washington, DC, TRB, January 23, 2012 –TomTom announces a partnership with the British Automobile Association (the AA) which will provide the most accurate real-time traffic information for The AA’s Traffic News website. The AA website (www.theaa.com) will now include TomTom HD Traffic data, which provides a live view of road conditions and areas of congestion, enabling consumers to better plan their journeys.

    TomTom HD Traffic creates a picture of traffic conditions as they evolve. HD Traffic contains information from multiple data sources, including connected navigation devices, mobile phones, road sensors and real time incident data; TomTom combines this anonymous information to produce real time traffic products using proprietary and tested methods.

    Updates are provided every minute ensuring the AA’s customers are fully aware of the current road conditions before they start their travel. TomTom HD Traffic provides comprehensive coverage across the UK.

    “With TomTom HD Traffic, the AA is safe in the knowledge that its users can accurately plan their journeys and be fully aware of the most up-to-date conditions on their routes,” said Charles Cautley, Managing Director of TomTom Automotive and Licensing. “We believe that by partnering with the AA, TomTom is making it possible to more efficiently use the road network and reduce traffic congestion in the UK.”

    Delcan chooses TomTom data for traffic analysis in NYC

    Washington, DC, TRB, January 23, 2012 – TomTom announces a partnership with Delcan Corporation in which historical traffic data will be used for the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2). SHRP 2 is managed by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies. By using anonymous GPS-based measurements from the TomTom historical traffic database, Delcan and its partners will develop models for travel time reliability analysis and research as part of the National Academies SHRP 2 program. The TomTom traffic database allows Delcan to use actual traffic measurements without the cost, time and complexity of traditional survey methods.

    “The opportunity to influence the U.S. highway system in a positive way is one that TomTom takes very seriously,” says Charles Cautley, Managing Director of TomTom Automotive and Licensing. “We believe that by using TomTom historical traffic data, Delcan and the SHRP2 program will help push traffic modeling in the U.S. to a higher level of quality.”

    AMSTERDAM (AFN) - Navigatiedienstverlener TomTom heeft een exclusieve deal gesloten met de Britse automobilistenclub British Automobile Association. TomTom mag realtime verkeersinformatie leveren voor de website van de Britse versie van de ANWB, zo maakte het bedrijf maandag bekend.

    Draait op windows CE daardoor is het ook mogelijk om er (gekraakte) tomtom op de draaien.

    Kijk, dit is voor aan de kleinzakelijke markt.

    Een applicatie voor de kleine zelfstandigen. Hoe laat komt de loodgieter, etc. etc. Dit zou TomTom dus direct ook moeten aanbieden, en niet wachten tot er andere aanbieders op de markt zijn.

    Het is niet direct een concurrentie voor de bestaande business solutions, want die rusten transportbedrijven uit met meerdere units, met ook mogelijkheden zoals het ontwijken van kleine wegen, lage viaducten, etc. Maar het is wel een partij die nu ergens inspringt waar voor TomTom nog kansen liggen.

    Wat mij betreft zou dit een functie kunnen zijn in zowel een app als in een zakelijke PND variant, een Go LIVE business ofzo. Waarmee je je klant laat weten waar je bent, gedurende een bepaalde tijdsframe. En er zijn nog andere functies denkbaar, zoals je ritten administratie bijhouden, betalen voor tanken en parkeren, etc.

    Als TomTom hier ook mee komt, maar dan met die uitgebreidere services die ik noem, dan is daar nog een HUGE markt te winnen, namelijk iedere schilder, vertegenwoordiger, etc. die op de weg zit. En door de merknaam en aanvullende services (HD traffic, administratie, parkeren en betalen) ook vollediger dan zoiets als Glympse.

    Laat een kleine zelfstandige zijn locatie delen via een unieke URL, en laat zijn klanten hem volgen op de kaart die op routes.tomtom.com staat. Heb je ook direct weer bezoekers die daar heen gaan, en dan gaat het vuurtje lopen / balletje rollen.

    Kom op, TomTom, schiet eens op met je business development! Of koop desnoods van dit soort partijtjes op en laat ze hun diensten verder doorontwikkelen met aanvullende kaarten en services van tomtom.

    SEOUL (AFN) - Samsung heeft in het vierde kwartaal van vorig jaar een operationele winst geboekt van 5,3 biljoen won (3,6 miljard euro). Dat is een record voor het Zuid-Koreaanse technologieconcern. Onder de streep bleef 4 biljoen won (2,7 miljard euro) over, zo meldde het bedrijf vrijdag.

    De nettowinst ligt daarmee 17 procent hoger dan een jaar eerder. De omzet in de laatste drie maanden van 2011 bedroeg 47,3 biljoen won (ruim 32 miljard euro). Dat is 13 procent meer dan in het vierde kwartaal van 2010. Samsung dankt de goede cijfers vooral aan een sterke verkoop van smartphones. Het bedrijf verkocht er meer en bovendien tegen een hogere gemiddelde prijs.

    Over heel 2011 boekte Samsung een omzet van 165 biljoen won (112 miljard euro). Dat is een toename van bijna 7 procent ten opzichte van 2010. De nettowinst kwam evenwel 15 procent lager uit op 13,7 biljoen won (9,3 miljard euro).

    Als je dit zo leest, is het misschien toch wel een flinke groeimarkt op de langere termijn. Waarbij TomTom goede kansen heeft, omdat navigatie (range bekijken en oplaadpunt vinden) een standaardvereiste is en dus ook een standaarduitrusting in plaats van een optie.

    wat kost nou zo iets, ik bedoel je auto helemaal op laden? nu betalen we boven 70/80 euro voor een volle tank beziene..

    Op het journaal toen men elektrische auto’s aan het promoten waren zeiden ze dat je ongeveer 200 à 300 km kon rijden met een volle tank van ca. €3.
    Opladen zou ongeveer 7 à 8 uur duren.
    Accu’s worden natuurlijk wel verbeterd, maar dit gaat nog niet echt snel. Als je bijvoorbeeld op vakantie wilt met je elektrische auto kun je beter niet te ver weg gaan, want door om de 300 km 8 uur op te moeten laden ben je wel heel wat tijd kwijt.
    Maar met het geld dat je bespaard met tanken kun je makkelijk een alternatieve manier van vervoer regelen om mee op vakantie te gaan. Van het geld dat je bespaart kun je bijvoorbeeld makkelijk een keertje een gewone benzine auto huren of met de trein gaan voor een lange reis.
    Even samengevat: Een volle tank kost ca. €3,-

    Snelladen gaat veel sneller en je kan met sommige modellen 400km rijden.
    Ook heb je bij sommige modellen accuwissel. Je trekt je lege accu eruit en duwt een volle erin. Duurt 3 minuten. En in Amsterdam kan je een gratis oplaadpaal voor je deur krijgen. Dus dan kan je hem voor woon-werkverkeer sowieso makkelijk gebruiken. Al met al best mogelijkheden.
