Iran to secure USD 100 bln of western investment in oil and gas industry Published on Thu, 02 Jul 2015 36 times viewed Iran is finalising a contract system to secure about USD 100bn of new oil and gas deals with western companies if sanctions are lifted. The move marks a big shift for a regime traditionally wary of of foreign groups participating in its energy sector. Mehdi Hosseini, an adviser to Iran’s oil ministry who has been drafting a new energy contract for the past two years, said he expected President Hassan Rouhani to approve it in the coming months. The current system, which prevents companies from booking reserves or taking equity stakes in Iranian companies, has proved hugely unpopular with multinationals and deterred investors even before sanctions were tightened. US oil majors, which have had no presence in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution, would be able to bid for Iranian oil contracts if a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers is agreed. A talks deadline was extended this week. The Islamic republic, which has the world’s largest gas reserves and fourth-biggest oil reserves, has plans to increase its oil production capacity to about 5m barrels a day by the end of the decade from about 1mb/d since sanctions were introduced in 2012. Details of the new contract remain vague but Mr Hosseini said it would have a “flexible fee”, address the risks of each project and take market fluctuations into consideration. Under some circumstances, reserves could be booked, but foreign companies would still not own oilfields he added. “The value of these contracts may exceed USD 100bn,” Mr Hosseini told the Financial Times, adding that a London-based conference with details of dozens of available upstream offshore and onshore oil and gas projects had been delayed, probably until December, because of the “continuation of sanctions-related issues”. 3 Aantrekkelijke aandelen voor het derde kwartaal Door Belegger.nl op 6 jul 2015 om 11:55 | Views: 3.328 3 Aantrekkelijke aandelen voor het derde kwartaal We bevinden ons inmiddels alweer in het derde kwartaal van 2015. Dat vertelt hij in onderstaand video-interview: - See more at: www.belegger.nl/Column/160777/3-Aantr...
By Lisa Beilfuss Duke Energy Corp. (DUK) on Tuesday lifted its quarterly dividend 3.8%, extending an eight-year streak of annual increases. The dividend of 82.5 cents a share is payable on Sept. 16 to shareholders of record on Aug. 14, and it comes despite recent weakness in its international business. Earlier this year, Duke conducted a strategic review of its international energy segment and said it plans to continue to own and operate the business. In the latest quarter, the unit's profit plunged more than 70% as lower volumes and drought in Brazil hurt results. Strength in Duke's core domestic businesses continues to support financial objectives, the company said, adding that it plans to distribute $2.7 billion of foreign cash by 2022 "even though we are experiencing some near-term earnings challenges in our international business." Duke also said that it plans to raise future annual dividends at a rate more in line with adjusted per-share earnings growth targets. Billions in gas projects stranded by climate change action - Thinktank According to a report by the thinktank Carbon Tracker, more than USD 280 billion of LNG projects being planned over the next decade risk becoming 'stranded' if global action is taken to limit climate change to 2C. LNG projects allow gas to be compressed into tankers and sold around the world, making it key to hopes in the US, Canada and Australia of fully exploiting their gas reserves. But the new analysis shows that if emissions are cut to keep global temperature rise below the internationally agreed target many LNG projects being considered will not be needed. The report concludes that over the next 10 years USD 82 billion of LNG plants in Canada would be surplus to requirements, USD 71 billion in the US and USD 68 billion in Australia, with the rest of the world, led by Russia and Indonesia, accounting for the remaining USD 59 billion. The analysis found Shell’s agreed takeover of BG makes it by far the biggest player in the market and USD 85bn of the combined company’s potential LNG projects would not be needed. Shell said that it was only the biggest in LNG compared to oil majors and no comparison had been with national oil companies. The report is the latest to raise concerns that increasing action to cut carbon emissions, combined with falling renewable energy prices, will put some fossil fuel investments at risk. Carbon Tracker has pioneered this analysis, which has been backed by the Bank of England and the World Bank. Mr James Leaton, Carbon Tracker’s head of research, said that “Investors should scrutinise the true potential for growth of LNG businesses over the next decade. The current oversupply of LNG means there is already a pipeline of projects waiting to come on stream. It is not clear whether these will be needed and generate value for shareholders.” Source : The Guardian
Shell places huge bet on Arctic oil riches Published on Wed, 08 Jul 2015 81 times viewed The Wall Street Journal reported that Royal Dutch Shell PLC is days away from drilling in the Arctic Ocean, betting it can find enough oil to justify the huge risks that keep almost every other competitor out of those icy waters. The company is hauling two massive rigs, the Polar Pioneer and the Noble Discoverer, more than 2,000 miles up and around the Alaska coast to the Chukchi Sea, where it plans to begin work the third week of July. Accompanying the rigs are 30 support vessels and seven aircraft, a large entourage even by big oil-company standards. The voyage represents Shell’s effort to mount a comeback in the Arctic 3 years after a different rig ran aground following an unsuccessful drilling season. This time, Shell executives say they have both costs and safety under control but the project has already hit a snag. A federal agency said last week that Shell can’t drill wells simultaneously within a 15 mile radius to minimize impacts on walruses, which means the company may only be able to drill one well this year instead of the two it had planned. And on Tuesday, Shell said that it discovered a small breach in the hull of a vessel carrying equipment for spill response and is examining what repairs are necessary. A Shell spokesman said that the company has modified its plans based on the new drilling requirement. It doesn’t expect the damaged vessel to affect those plans, but the answer will ultimately depend on the extent of the repairs. Overcoming such challenges has a huge potential reward: Alaska’s portion of the Chukchi could hold the equivalent of 29 billion barrels of oil and gas, according to the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. That is more than twice the global reserves that Shell can currently pump at a profit. The Arctic is a prize that Shell competitors like Exxon Mobil Corporation and Chevron Corporation aren’t pursuing for reasons ranging from collapsed oil prices to Western sanctions against Moscow. Even state-controlled giants like Russia’s OAO Rosneft have put Arctic plans on hold this year. And a consortium including Exxon and BP PLC suspended its Canadian Arctic exploration program on June 26th, saying that it wouldn’t be able to complete its work before its lease expires in 2020.
