bron South China Morning Post: Tech / Policy Alibaba’s DingTalk acquires streaming tech start-up Pano to seize bigger share of China’s videoconferencing services market The acquisition of Pano is expected to further enhance DingTalk’s audio and video communications offerings, as it competes against platforms like Zoom China’s videoconferencing services market is projected to be worth more than US$1.6 billion in 2024 Ann Cao Ann Cao in Shanghai + FOLLOW Published: 9:07pm, 18 Mar, 2022 Tech China’s regulators may ease the pressure on Big Tech companies in 2022 DingTalk, the workplace app developed by Alibaba Group Holding, has acquired streaming technology start-up Pano for an undisclosed amount, enabling the platform to have a stronger foothold in the country’s office communications and work-related social media market segments. With the acquisition of Pano, which is based in Alibaba’s home city of Hangzhou in eastern Zhejiang province, DingTalk is expected to further enhance its audio and video communications offerings, a spokeswoman for DingTalk confirmed on Friday. Alibaba is the parent of the South China Morning Post. Founded in August 2019, Pano enables enterprises and developers to achieve high-definition, stable and easy-to-use streaming services, covering various vertical industries. The start-up’s real-time transmission acceleration network already covers more than 200 countries and regions, according to the firm’s website. “We look forward to building a more open platform to provide more competitive products and technologies for hardware and software partners,” DingTalk’s spokeswoman said. Following the acquisition, Pano founder and chief executive Zhao Jiayu will continue to lead the enterprise’s operations under DingTalk, according to Chinese media 36Kr. Zhao has 18 years of experience in videoconferencing and real-time communications technology development. Before he founded Pano, Zhao previously served as chief technology officer at NetEase-owned CommsEase and an architect at US videoconferencing services provider Cisco WebEx. In an interview with Chinese media in 2020, Zhao said Pano mostly provided technical support for various internet services companies – including those involved in online tutoring, e-commerce and live streaming – which did not want their users to be directed to third-party apps such as WeChat and Zoom. Pano secured a 25 million yuan (US$3.94 million) round of financing led by Sequoia China in June 2020. DingTalk tops 500 million users as Alibaba eyes WeChat territory DingTalk’s acquisition is expected to heat up competition in China’s fast-growing videoconferencing services market, as the Alibaba platform moves aggressively in a field where Tencent Holdings-owned super app WeChat and Zoom are widely used. China’s videoconferencing services market is projected to be worth more than 10 billion yuan in 2024, up from 6.52 billion yuan in 2020, according to data from market research firm IDC. DingTalk, which launched an audio call function in 2016 and videoconferencing products in 2017, currently lags behind the competition. Videoconferencing platform Tencent Meeting, for example, had more than 200 million users as of January this year. As a mainstream communications platform, WeChat has a commanding lead with more than 1.2 billion active users. In January, DingTalk said it plans to launch new augmented reality glasses so users can conduct virtual meetings, as part of parent Alibaba’s drive into the metaverse.

In ieder geval veel succes allen. Beleggen is all about managing risk, zo zie ik het.

Bron: ABM Financial News
bron South China Morning Post: Tencent, Alibaba tighten platform rules on digital collectibles as NFTs remain a grey area in China Buyers who use specialised software to snatch up NFTs during sales, or those who engage in money laundering and fraudulent activities, will be reported to authorities Tencent’s super app WeChat has over the past few weeks banned several mini programs offering digital collectibles Xinmei Shen Published: 9:30pm, 22 Mar, 2022 Tencent Holdings and Alibaba Group Holding are tightening rules that apply to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on their platforms, as Chinese tech giants take preemptive measures to avoid potential scrutiny of the tokens, which are referred to as digital collectibles in the country because NFTs still operate in a grey area. In newly updated terms of service, Alibaba affiliate Ant Group’s NFT platform Jingtan said that it would “alert the police and hand over [details] to judicial authorities” if users are found to be organising transactions outside the platform in ways that constitute criminal activities. Buyers who use specialised software to snatch up digital collectibles during sales, or those who engage in money laundering and fraudulent activities, will also be reported to authorities, the company said.
Bron Chinese Staats TV Chinese ambassador on Russia-Ukraine conflict: China is part of the solution, not part of the problem Updated 11:15, 21-Mar-2022 CGTN Share Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang (L) speaks to Margaret Brennan on CBS news program "Face the Nation" in Washington, D.C., U.S., March 20, 2022. /Chinese Embassy in the United States China is part of the solution and not part of the problem, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang said on Sunday during a televised interview on CBS news program "Face the Nation," elaborating China's position on Russia-Ukraine conflict. "What China is doing is sending foods, medicine, sleeping bags and baby formula, not weapons and ammunition to any party," he told the host, rejecting claims of China providing military assistance to Russia as disinformation. "We are against wars, as I said, we will do everything to de-escalate the crisis," he said. As of China's relations with Russia, Qin said, "China's trusted relations with Russia is not a liability. It's an asset in the international efforts to solve the crisis in a peaceful way." "China is part of the solution. It's not part of the problem," Qin stressed. He further explained China's unique role in peaceful settlement of the crisis. "China has good relations with Russia, has good relations with Ukraine. And China keeps close communications with the United States and with Europe," he said. "These enable China to reach to all parties concerned in the crisis." China will continue to promote peace talks and urge immediate ceasefire, he said. "We need wisdom. We need courage. And we need good diplomacy," he stressed. When asked whether Beijing will provide financial support to Moscow, Qin emphasized that trade, economic, financial and energy cooperation China has with Russia are normal business ties between two sovereign countries based on international laws, including rules of the World Trade Organization. In the nine-minute interview, the Chinese ambassador, who was interrupted by the host before he finished his sentence at least 23 times, also reiterated China's position on the issue. "We have already made it very clear that national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine, should be respected and protected," he said.

Bron: ABM Financial News

China will continue to roll out more policies to expand effective demand and strengthen the driving force for economic recovery and growth, according to the decisions made at the State Council's executive meeting chaired by Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday. The meeting noted that China's economy is at a crucial stage of stabilization and recovery and that the third quarter is of vital importance. It is essential to efficiently coordinate COVID-19 response with economic and social development, and further deliver the policy package for stabilizing the economy. The meeting called for greater efforts to consolidate the foundation of economic recovery, stabilize overall economic performance and keep major economic indicators within a proper range, giving priority to job security and price stability. There is still ample room for bringing out the effects of the policy-backed and development-oriented financial instruments and special-purpose bonds. These measures will help draw a large amount of private investment and should be executed in accordance with market principles. Effective investment must be fully utilized to strengthen weak links, facilitate structural adjustments, spur consumption and create jobs, so as to leverage its key role in economic recovery and growth. The meeting decided to establish a coordination mechanism to promote major investment projects. To ensure consistency and efficiency, competent departments will conduct a joint review of the projects before final approval. The approved projects should deliver both immediate and long-term benefits, help underpin the economic and social development, conform to the 14th Five-Year Plan and other plans, generate economic returns and the operations should start as soon as possible. The quotas on land use and energy consumption for major projects will be set separately in accordance with related regulations. The development of competitive industries will still be guided by market rules. The meeting urged expediting the use of special-purpose bonds and guiding commercial banks toward supportive financing. The newly-added credit line from policy banks should be delivered in a timely manner. Governments at all levels should make sure that the projects are implemented at a faster pace and meet quality requirements. They will make sure that operations at construction sites will not suspend and related industrial and supply chains stay uninterrupted, in an effort to generate more physical gains in the third quarter. More job opportunities will be provided for migrant workers through public works programs wherever possible. Inter-agency working groups will be sent in due time to supervise and facilitate project delivery. Management and audit will be strengthened to ensure project quality and forestall corruption. The meeting noted that consumption is closely related to people's lives and should still serve as a major engine for growth. Financial institutions will be encouraged to offer more flexible arrangements for the personal consumer loans affected by COVID-19. City-specific policies will be adopted to promote steady and sound development of the real estate sector. People's basic housing needs will be met and their wish to improve housing conditions will be supported as appropriate. Specific measures will be introduced for the sound and well-regulated development of the platform economy. Platform companies will be advised to carry out inclusive financial services legally. The role of the platform economy in creating jobs and spurring consumption should be given full play. Financial support for import and export sectors will be increased, and services such as exchange rate hedging will be offered to enterprises in an active manner. Source(s): Xinhua News Agency
