    Mobiele zonnebloem produceert 40 procent meer stroom

    UTRECHT – Een combinatie van slimme technologie en esthetiek, de smartflower POP bestaat al sinds 2010. De makers hebben nu een nieuwe versie gemaakt die 40 procent meer zonnestroom kan produceren.

    De nieuwe Smartflower is in staat om de zon te volgen, kan zichzelf koel houden en zelfs zichzelf schoonmaken.

    De smartflower is een mobiel zonnesysteem dat eenmaal uitgeklapt een oppervlakte heeft van bijna 18 vierkante meter aan zonnecellen. Door mee te bewegen met de zon wordt altijd op de meest efficiënte manier zonnestroom geproduceerd.

    Friese woningcorporatie wil 15.000 woningen voorzien van zonnepanelen

    UTRECHT – De Friese woningcorporatie WoonFriesland wil 15.000 woningen van zonnepanelen gaan voorzien.

    Dit moet huurders een besparing opleveren van 100 euro per jaar. Zij betalen zelf niet voor de zonnepanelen.

    Concrete plannen heeft de corporatie nog niet. Die worden de komende maanden uitgewerkt.

    Wel weet de woningstichting al dat vanaf dit najaar de huurders gefaseerd worden benaderd. Er zal in Leeuwarden worden gestart en later volgen de andere gemeentes.

    Positief

    Het initiatief is besproken met provincie Fryslân, gemeente Leeuwarden en Huurdervereniging de Bewonersraad Friesland. Zij hebben positief gereageerd.

    Met dit initiatief kunnen de deelnemende woningen minimaal 1 sprong maken op de schaal van de energielabels. Zo’n 10 procent van de woningen van WoonFriesland heeft nog label F of G.

    1.868 zonnepanelen op dak Friese groenteleverancier

    ?UTRECHT – Er komen eind deze maand 1.868 zonnepanelen op het dak van het hoofdkantoor van de Friese groene- en fruitleverancier Smeding Groenten en Fruit in Sint Annaparochie.

    Jaarlijks wekt deze zonne-energie installatie zo’n 450.000 kWh op, omgerekend ongeveer net zoveel als 128 huishoudens jaarlijks verbruiken.

    Voor Smeding zelf is het ongeveer 25 procent van het jaarlijkse stroomverbruik. In 2017 wil het conern de overige 75 procent gaan inkopen uit Nederlandse windmolens.

    De zonne-energie installatie wordt geleverd en geïnstalleerd door Zonenergie 3.0, een samenwerkingsverband van installatieconcern ITBB en zonne-energieleverancier enie.nl.

    Zonnepanelen op 15 basisscholen op Aruba

    UTRECHT – Er komen zonnepanelen op 15 basisscholen op Aruba. Samen met alle overheidsgebouwen komen er voor 2,6 megawatt aan zonnepanelen op de daken.

    Dit meldt het lokale medium Amigoe. 1 school heeft al enkele tientallen zonnepanelen gekregen.

    De zomervakantie wordt gebruikt om op zoveel mogelijk daken alvast zonnepanelen te plaatsen.

    In 2017 zijn naar verwachting alle scholen voorzien van zonnepanelen. Nutsbedrijf WEB voert het project uit met andere partijen.

    Aruba heeft als doelstelling om binnen 4 jaar volledig over te gaan op groene energie. Hiervoor moeten er onder andere 2 grote zonneparken met opgeteld een vermogen van 7,5 megawatt op het eiland komen.

    Investeringsfonds PPM steekt 1 miljoen in verhuren zonnepanelen

    UTRECHT – Participatiemaatschappij PPM Oost steekt 1 miljoen in leasingmaatschappij Solease voor het verhuren van zonnepanelen.

    Met de investering kunnen direct 200 huishoudens in Gelderland van zonnepanelen worden voorzien.

    De eerste 40 Gelderse gegadigden voor de zonnepanelen hebben zich reeds gemeld. Streven is om zonnepanelen te plaatsen op 2.000 huishoudens.

    “De provincie Gelderland wil de komende jaren flinke stappen vooruit zetten om energieneutraal te worden. Maar de provincie kan het niet alleen”, aldus Marius Prins van PPM Oost.

    Grootschalige uitrol van zonnepanelen

    “Met de investering in Solease willen we een grootschalige uitrol van zonnepanelen stimuleren én aantonen dat duurzame investeringen ook rendabel kunnen zijn. We nodigen andere, niet overheids gerelateerde investeerders uit om met ons mee te gaan doen.”

    Solease ontving eerder al investeringen van provinciale energiefondsen uit Limburg, Overijssel en Utrecht.

    Oekraïense overheid wil weer stroom opwekken in Tsjernobyl

    De Oekraïense regering zou plannen hebben om het gebied dat rondom de voormalige kernreactor in Tsjernobyl ligt om te vormen naar een zonnecentrale. Daarmee zou het land ongeveer een derde van wat de kerncentrale ooit leverde aan elektriciteit kunnen opwekken.

    De plannen zijn niet officieel gepresenteerd, maar The Guardian heeft een presentatie ingezien die de Oekraïense regering naar grote banken heeft gestuurd, waarschijnlijk om financiering te krijgen. Uit de presentatie blijkt dat er in het onbewoonbaar verklaarde gedeelte rondom de kernreactor van Tsjernobyl een zonnecentrale moet verschijnen die 1.000 megawatt aan energie genereert.

    Toen de kerncentrale van Tsjernobyl nog functioneerde, kon er 4.000 megawatt mee opgewekt worden, schrijft technologiewebsite Tweakers. Daarnaast zijn er ook plannen voor andere vormen van hernieuwbare energie, zoals het winnen van biogas.

    Het voordeel van een zonnecentrale in het gebied rondom Tsjernobyl is dat de grond bijzonder goedkoop is. Dat komt doordat het onbewoonbaar is verklaard en ongeschikt voor toepassingen zoals landbouw. Daarnaast kent Oekraïne relatief veel zonneschijn, waardoor het een hoog rendement zou kunnen behalen met zonne-energie.

    Financiering

    Of er daadwerkelijk financiering komt voor de zonnecentrale en andere vormen van hernieuwbare energie is nog onduidelijk. Wel zou volgens The Guardian de Europese Bank voor Wederopbouw en Ontwikkeling interesse hebben in het verstrekken van financiering voor het project. Eerder droeg deze bank bij aan een grote sarcofaag die de vernietigde kernreactor omvat en zo moet beschermen tegen het vrijkomen van radioactieve straling.

    De omgeving van Tsjernobyl is nog altijd radioactief en gevaarlijk. Op 26 april 1986 vond in kernreactor nummer vier een ontploffing plaats, waardoor radioactief materiaal zich over een groot gebied verspreidde. Bij de ramp kwamen direct 31 mensen om, maar radioactieve besmetting zorgde naderhand voor nog veel meer slachtoffers.

    Azure Power to set up solar projects atop DLF properties

    Economic Times reported that solar energy developer Azure Power has tied up with DLF to set up solar projects on rooftops of the builder's properties, mainly in Gurgaon, where the first smart grid is coming up.

    The green energy developer is aiming at commissioned capacity of more than 1,000 mw spread across 15 states in the current financial year.

    To boost rooftop solar plants, Haryana has made such projects compulsory in residential, industrial and government buildings.

    Mr HS Wadhwa chairman of Azure Power said that "The company has contracted with several entities including Oberoi Hotels for installing rooftop plants in properties across states."

    The company recently inaugurated a 10 mw solar rooftop project spread over eight locations including fruit and vegetable market at Mohali developed by Punab Mandi Board.

    Mr Wadhwa said that the company's commissioned capacity will cross 1,000 mw by the end of the current financial year, a quarter of it in Punjab. An early bird to catch up with the domestic solar mission, Azure Power was the first to attain commercial grid-based solar project in 2009. At the time the company had entered the agreement with PSPCL at a tariff of Rs17 per unit. The company was floated in 2007 by the US-based NRI Inderpreet S Wadhwa, who engaged with startups before returning to the country to join the green campaign.

    He said that “Azure Power has no plans for operations beyond India. Opportunities have come for global business but domestic scenario is more lucrative."

    BHEL bags 80MW photovoltaic power plants

    Economic Times reported that state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged orders for setting up 80 mw of solar photovoltaic power plants on engineering, procurement and construction basis. The orders, valued at INR 437 crore, have been placed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation LTd (NLC) and Bharat Electronics Ltd.

    The solar photovoltaic plants are to be set up at Neyveli, Tamilnadu (65 mw), for NLC, and at the premises of Ordnance Factory Medak, Telangana (15 mw), for BEL.

    With these orders, BHEL's solar portfolio now stands at 300 mw.

    BHEL had earlier bagged EPC orders from NTPCBSE -0.60 % under domestic competitive bidding for a 50 mw solar photovoltaic power plant at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and for a 50 mw power plant at Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh.

    Solar project hits snag as farmers refuse to give land in Bengaluru

    TOI reported that the 2,000MW Pavagada Solar Park—which is being set up on 12,000 acres of land—has hit a hurdle with farmers refusing to give up land for drawing transmission lines.

    An energy department official said that "We are finding it difficult to get right of way corridors (the area between two transmission towers) required to lay transmission lines. There are nine towers to be installed to ensure connectivity between the solar power production plant near Pavagada and the grid, but landowners are opposing the move, citing the diminution value of the land below the transmission lines. They have been demanding higher compensation for the proposed Right Of Way (ROW) corridors."

    The Pavagada project in Tumakuru district is the largest solar power generation plant in the country. Of the 2,000 MW, the National Thermal Power Corporation will develop 1,600MW. Karnataka will get 500MW power in the first phase from September 2017 and the power will be shared among the five Escoms. But with farmers demanding higher compensation, work on the solar project reportedly slowed down in recent times.

    The issue came up during the review meeting that energy minister DK Shiva Kumar had with deputy commissioners on Tuesday. The minister said that "The Centre has issued guidelines for payment of compensation for damages on ROW, it has to be calculated on the basis of the land category. We have told deputy commissioners to convene a meeting with the landowners, convince them about the compensation package and close the issue at the earliest."

    India to launch extensive research on solar power – Mr Dave

    Mr Anil Madhav Dave, Environment Minister said that India is planning to start extensive research on the use of solar power to bring about a "revolution" in this field.

    Mr Dave told Lok Sabha that during the Paris Climate summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that there were 122 countries in the world where sunlight was available 10 months of the year.

    He said that since India is one of the prominent countries among these 122 nations, it has to take the lead of research on solar power.

    He added that "We are looking for a revolution similar to the mobile phone revolution which took place in India. 25 years ago people could not imagine how we would use the mobile phone now."

    Mr Dave said if India could get success in the research on solar power, the country can end the burning of wood forever.

    He said that India was 2 per cent ahead on the commitment given during the Paris meet on carbon emission and could say with confidence that "we will be able to reach the target on time".

    Under the Paris agreement, the developed countries have committed to mobilise $100 billion per year and agreed to enhance it beyond $100 billion per year post 2020.

    He added that "Green Climate Fund has been set up under the UNFCCC as an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the convention. No specific assistance has been received by India so far from the GCF for implementing INDCs."

    India’s GIPCL signs PPAs for 80MW solar in Gujarat

    According to a BSE filing, Indian power firm Gujarat Industries Power Company (GIPCL) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Solar Energy Corporation of India for 80MW of solar projects in Gujarat.

    GIPCL will now develop two 40MW projects at the Gujarat Solar Park, Charanka, the first set of solar parks in India, but also billed as some of the most expensive for developers.

    The company has been involved in solar power generation since 2012 with 5MW PV commissioned at Vastan Mines of Surat Lignite Power Station. It has also recently commissioned 1MW of distributed generation solar at two locations in April.

    It is now tendering for an EPC contractor. The capacity is part of National Solar Mission (NSM), phase-II, batch-IV.

    India is expected to approve a doubling of its solar parks policy to reach 40GW capacity by 2020 in the next two months.

    Russian Solar Energy given the all clear to develop 90MW of solar plants

    According to a statement from the regional government, the Russian solar group has been granted to right to build six solar power plants, each with a 15 MW capacity, in Russia's southern Astrakhan Region.

    Russia’s solar industry is tentatively moving in the right direction, this week with the news that the conglomerate of Russian companies known as Solar Energy has been given the all clear to develop six new utility-scale solar power plants. The plants will all be located in Russia’s southern Astrakhan Region, and will help the country to achieve its goal of 1.5 GW of installed PV by 2020.

    Solar Energy plans to invest 12 billion rubles (US$185 million) for the development of the six projects, which will each have a capacity of 15 MW. All of the projects are planned for completion in 2017.

    The regional government announced that “Companies KompleksIndustriya and Energoholding, part of the Solar Energy group of companies, have received the rights for construction of six solar power stations with capacity of 15 MW each on the territory of Volodarsky, Privolzhsky, Yenotayevsky and Narimanovsky. The investment projects exceed 12 billion rubles.”

    Solar Energy is a group of Russian companies, which have come together to develop utility-scale projects within the country. It claims to already have the right to develop 435 MW of solar projects within Russia.

    However, there will be an air of skepticism around the projects until modules start being installed, as a number of proposed solar projects in Russia never came to fruition. To date, Russia only has 60 MW of solar PV installed throughout the country, however, it is expecting to see a total of 150 MW installed in 2016.

    Zonne-energie goedkoper dan nieuwe Britse kerncentrale

    UTRECHT – Plannen voor de enorme nieuwe kerncentrale Hinkley Point C bestaan al langer en tot voor kort zou de centrale ook worden gebouwd, maar de enorme ontwikkelingen in groene energie hebben de plannen ingehaald.

    Zonne-energie zou, in het meest ideale geval natuurlijk, goedkoper zijn dan kernenergie, zo blijkt uit een rapport van de Britse overheid waar vakblad PV Magazine over bericht.

    Zonneparken op grote schaal moeten tegen 2025 tegen ongeveer 50 tot 75 euro per megawattuur stroom kunnen produceren. Voor kernenergie komt dat cijfer waarschijnlijk uit op 85 tot 125 euro per megawattuur.

    Gedaalde kosten

    Dit betekent dat de voorspelde kosten voor zonne-energie zijn gedaald, terwijl die voor kernenergie zijn gestegen.

    De cijfers komen nadat eerder al duidelijk was dat de Hinkley Point relatief dure stroom zou gaan produceren. Zo zijn er al windmolens op land in Duitsland die goedkoper stroom produceren en sommige exploitanten klaagden er dan ook over dat de Hinkley-kerncentrale staatssteun zou gaan krijgen terwijl er elders in Europa bezuinigd werd op groene energie.

    Het kost niks om mijnwerkers om te scholen tot installateurs van zonnepanelen

    UTRECHT – Als de laatste steenkoolmijnen zijn gesloten hoeven mijnwerkers niet werkloos te raken. Uit een nieuw onderzoek blijkt dat het maar weinig kost om ze om te scholen tot installateurs van bijvoorbeeld zonnepanelen.

    Amerikaanse wetenschappers hebben er een rapport aan gewijd. Ze gingen vooral in op welke competenties nodig zijn in beide sectoren en hoeveel het eigenlijk kost om iemand om te scholen.

    Zo kan bijvoorbeeld de kennis over veiligheid die mijnwerkers nodig hebben van pas komen bij sommige banen in de zonnesector. Vaak blijkt dat werknemers meer kunnen verdienen door zonnepanelen op de daken te leggen.

    Kosten

    En de kosten? In het meest gunstige geval komt dit op 180 miljoen dollar uit. In het ergste geval ongeveer 1,8 miljard dollar, maar voor dit geld wordt wel een hele branche aan het werk gehouden.

    Het onderzoek komt op een goed moment. Producenten van steenkool staan enorm onder druk in de Verenigde Staten terwijl er steeds meer geld met zonne-energie wordt verdiend.

    4.550 zonnepanelen op grootste zonnedak van Limburg

    UTRECHT – Er worden 4.550 zonnepanelen geplaatst op het dak van een producent van bouw- en bestratingsmaterialen in het Limburgse Tegelen.

    Samen met Eneco hoopt het concern, Wienerberger, tegen het einde van volgende maand de zonnepanelen in gebruik te nemen.

    Ze gaan per jaar zo’n 1,1 miljoen kilowattuur zonnestroom produceren, vergelijkbaar met het jaarlijkse verbruik van 325 huishoudens.

    De zonnepanelen hebben opgeteld een vermogen van 1,2 megawatt. De onderneming gaat de stroom voor het grootste deel zelf gebruiken.

    Hoge ambities

    “Voor onze productie hebben we energie nodig, maar we stellen daarbij hoge ambities voor de toekomst”, verklaart Fons Wagner, operationeel directeur bij Wienerberger. “

    “Zo hebben we al enorme energiewinsten behaald door tal van energiebesparende maatregelen en technieken in te voeren en maken we gebruik van groene stroom. Alle initiatieven die ons kunnen helpen om onze energie-ambitie te realiseren, zoals samenwerking met Eneco, gaan we graag aan.”

    Bijna 30.000 zonnepanelen op 54 gebouwen Breda

    UTRECHT – Er komen zo’n 27.445 zonnepanelen op 54 panden in Breda. Vanuit de rijksoverheid is er subsidie toegezegd voor de zonnepanelen.

    Het gaat om 35 bedrijfspanden en 19 gemeentelijke gebouwen met opgeteld zo’n 65.000 vierkante meter dakoppervlak.

    In totaal is er 11 miljoen euro subsidie toegezegd dat de exploitanten van de zonnepanelen over een periode van 15 jaar krijgen voor de geproduceerde zonnestroom.

    De gemeente heeft de ondernemingen actief geholpen met het aanvragen van de subsidie.

    Drempel

    “We hebben bedrijven actief aangeschreven om hen te wijzen op deze regeling en hen hulp te bieden bij het indienen van de aanvraag”, aldus wethouder Paul de Beer. Hij geeft aan dat de gemeente bedrijven zal blijven helpen.

    “We horen namelijk van bedrijven terug dat door onze ondersteuning de drempel om subsidie aan te vragen lager wordt. En dat is precies de bedoeling. Zo gaan we samen met de stad echt meters maken met het opwekken van schone energie.”

    Major ports in India go green with solar and wind energy setups - Ministry

    India’s shipping ministry announced its keenness to promote renewable energy by installing solar and wind power systems at all major ports in the country. In a statement issued here the Ministry of Shipping said it aims to set up 90.64 MW of solar energy capacity at twelve major ports. It also said 70 MW of wind energy capacity will be set up at Kandla, VO Chidambaranar Port and Kamarajar ports.

    The ports have started the process of setting up the renewable energy projects using their profits. The total financial implications of the solar projects will be Rs 407.7 crore, the statement added. A total of 6.94 MW of solar projects have already been commissioned with Visakhapatnam port leading the way with 6.25 MW. The other ports in which solar projects have been commissioned are Kolkata Port, New Mangalore Port, V.O. Chidambaranar Port and Mumbai Port.

    The remaining solar power projects will be commissioned phase wise and are expected to be completed by 2017. These projects are a part of the Green Port initiative launched by the ministry.

    The statement said that “These renewable energy projects will help in the reduction of carbon emission and will lead to improvement of the environment around the ports. These projects will also help to reduce cost of power purchased by utilisation of renewable energy for power generation.”

    No adequate land to develop solar power – Mr Naik

    Minister for power Mr Milind Naik told Goa Legislative Assembly that Goa has limitations in developing solar energy. Goa does not have large tracks of flat land that is needed for developing solar power.

    Power minister while replying to a query by BJP legislator Kiran Kandolkar said that "The problem is the availability of land."

    To a question if any measures have been taken by the government to boost use of non-conventional energy in the State, the power minister said, "The government has started distributing three LED bulbs to each consumer plus replacement of existing street lights with LED lights which would be taken up soon will help reduce consumption of power."

    When asked if the option of using solar energy was tried, Mr Naik said, "Solar energy is purchased by the government to the extent of 31 mega watt from Solar Corporation of India and NTPC Vidyut Nigam Ltd, to meet Renewable Power Obligation (RPO) set by Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JREC)."

    Solar power plant amid African bush inspires hope in Uganda

    AP reported that in this electricity-starved rural part of Uganda, men ride bicycles several miles to the nearest market town simply to charge their phones.

    That should change with the construction nearby of one of the largest solar plants in sub-Saharan Africa, where two-thirds of the population is without electricity and countries increasingly explore alternative sources of power.

    According to U.N. figures, frustrated by the slow pace of rural electrification in this East African country of 36 million people, many Ugandans have been investing in their own solar panels to light their homes at night and keep small businesses running. But even the cheapest solar units can cost at least $100, a challenge when Uganda’s per capita income is $703.

    Villagers near Soroti are watching with enthusiasm the construction of a solar photovoltaic plant in their neighborhood. In the blistering heat, workmen install tables into dry earth. Shiny solar panels will be fixed atop them across a 33-acre field.

    When the plant is launched later this year it will have the capacity to generate 10 megawatts of power, which will be added to Uganda’s national grid.

    Mr Philip Karumuna, an engineer managing the project, said that the solar plant is expected to supply electricity to 40,000 homes and businesses in the area, a big deal in a country that is still heavily dependent on hydroelectric power for its energy needs. Hydroelectric plants depend on the flow of water, making them vulnerable to dry spells or droughts.

    Mr Ambrose Kamukama, a maintenance engineer at the plant, said that “We have a lot of sunshine, but then we are not utilizing it. By all means, the government should do more of this.”

    In Soroti, the sun shines almost daily, a key factor in choosing to locate the plant here. Surrounded by grasslands in which cattle graze and monkeys play, the town is located nearly 186 miles from the capital, Kampala. The town’s small hotels and businesses need a constant supply of power to thrive, but they rarely get it.

    When power fails, resident Stephen Okot just sits back and waits, often for hours, making it impossible to meet deadlines or win new customers for his business making metal doors and windows.

    He hopes the new solar plant will end the power blackouts.

    Mr David Mugoda, Soroti Hotel manager said that the power cuts force him to run a gas-guzzling generator that eats into his profits, for instance when milk in the freezer goes bad.

    Mr Mugoda said that “Power doesn’t go often, but when it goes you can curse your life. When you really need [power], that is when it goes off.”

    According to Access Power, a Dubai-based firm that is jointly operating the plant with Eren RE of France, the Soroti solar plant is financed under a scheme called GET FiT, a renewable energy facility funded by the European Union and supported by the governments of Germany, Norway and the UK.

    The plant is hopefully “only just the beginning for many more to come,” Kristian Schmidt, head of the EU delegation to Uganda, said at the ground-breaking ceremony in March.

    Energy experts said that similar renewable energy projects will help diversify Africa’s energy mix.
