    Welkom bij TerraVia - het voormalige Solazyme.

    Dit is een voortzetting van de Solazyme discussie, aangemaakt naar aanleiding van de naamswijziging.

    Zeker, Admiral. Ik ben altijd optimistisch geweest over Solazyme -pardon... TerraVia- maar dat is steeds afgestraft doordat de firma veel teveel tegelijk probeerde te doen.

    Ik hoop van harte dat dit Wolfson's laatste call zal zijn, want hoewel ik grote bewondering voor hem heb, vond ik ook dat hij tijdens die calls een veel te jongensachtige indruk maakte (hij is ook pas 45 en geeft al 13 jaar leiding aan de tent).

    Er is focus. Nu nog een stevige, ervaren CEO.

    Liefst zie ik nu afstoot van bepaalde merken, waaronder Algenist, steeds met een royalty-deal. En dan natuurlijk dat Moema goed draait en de vraag stijgt, net als het aantal pilot programma's met voedingsmiddelen fabrikanten.

    Langere termijn zou ik willen zien dat de kopers van de af te stoten merken en toepassingen aan een eigen productie capaciteit gaan bouwen.

    Maar ik houd ook rekening met een uiteindelijke verkoop van de tent aan een grote jongen. Laten we hopen dat dat niet te snel komt...

    nou ik zie dit toch als een verwatering.en geen kleine ook.verpakt in een marketing 'rebranding' verhaal anders was het echt over en uit geweest voor ze: hadden ze die uitgifte niet meer kunnen doen.beetje een zure 'bril' maar ik ben hier volgens mij ooit ingestapt toen ze op 8 dollar stonden waarna het een tijdje 'ok' ging en ze vervolgens kelderden naar waar we nu staan:)

    Zeker geen slechte dag. Solazyme heeft vele problemen gekend, maar (met ook de nieuwe naam TerraVia) lijkt het bedrijf er eindelijk in geslaagd de omvorming naar een voedingssector gerelateerd bedrijf definitief gestalte te geven. Ook de Amerikanen lijken dit steeds meer te gaan beseffen en de recente deal met Unilever is daar natuurlijk een prachtig voorbeeld van, helpt bij de beeldvorming. Voeg daarbij de al in gang gezette vervanging van het management met specifieke kennis van de voedingsssector en TerraVia lijkt een betere toekomst tegemoet te gaan. Koersstijging wellicht ook ingegeven door het feit dat bij de voedingssector een hogere P/E ratio hoort (..moeten ze natuurlijk wel eindelijk eens winst gaan maken, maar goed, forse stappen in de juiste richting zijn inmiddels gezet).

    Summary

    Following several announcements and Q4 results, the shares of Solazyme/Terra Via have rallied impressively.

    A company name change to TerraVia has been received positively by investors and the name change alone should help power the shares higher.

    The company is positioned well for an impending "sea change" in the food ingredients industry.

    Beyond current fundamentals, the stock is positioned for further upside.

    Further thoughts:

    Even with the long history of investments and losses, Solazyme, now known as TerraVia, maintains a relatively low number of shares outstanding at 82 million, with a current market cap of $224 million (3/21/16). Shares will likely be diluted further with the convertible debt and the possibility remains that another secondary issue could be consummated, but the fact remains that, compared to the opportunity, SZYM trades at a low valuation relative to the opportunity and could offer outsized returns from its current price near $2.70 per share.

    Conclusion:

    For now, the news and momentum in Solazyme/TerraVia is with the bulls. The momentum appears to be powerful enough to cause a sell side participant (not willing to hold on for decades) to not be on the short side in the next several days or weeks. While the shares of SZYM remain extremely risky, patient long-term investors are likely to profit in the coming years and decades.
