Volvo Trucks Secures Order for 1,000 Electric Vehicles from Holcim

    Strategic Research Institute
    Published on :
    5 Jun, 2023, 1:43 am

Volvo Trucks, a prominent player in the transportation industry, has received a momentous order that has shattered records. The company has signed a letter of intent with Holcim, a leading global provider of building solutions based in Switzerland, for the purchase of up to 1,000 electric trucks by 2030. This remarkable agreement represents the largest commercial order to date for Volvo's electric trucks, marking a significant milestone in the transition towards sustainable transportation. The first batch of 130 electric trucks is scheduled for delivery between 2023 and 2024.

Holcim, known for its innovative approach to manufacturing, has partnered with Volvo Trucks to implement a comprehensive plan for the deployment of these cutting-edge vehicles across its European operations over the next decade. The initial consignment of heavy electric trucks, comprising Volvo FH and Volvo FM models, will be distributed to key markets such as France, Germany, Switzerland, and the UK. The collaboration between Holcim and Volvo Group has fostered a long-term partnership focused on achieving substantial reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.

Martin Lundstedt, the esteemed President and CEO of Volvo Group, expresses his pride in the fruitful partnership with Holcim, emphasizing the need for deep collaboration and a strong commitment to driving tangible CO2 reductions.

This sentiment is echoed by Jan Jenisch, Chairman and CEO of Holcim, who highlights the importance of cross-value chain collaboration in enabling the net-zero transition. By electrifying their logistics operations with Volvo's electric fleets, Holcim aims to reach their ambitious goal of having 30% of their heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts be zero-emission vehicles by 2030.

The impact of this order on environmental sustainability cannot be understated. By replacing 1,000 existing diesel trucks with Volvo FH Electric trucks powered by green electricity, an estimated 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions could be eliminated annually. Both Volvo Trucks and Holcim are dedicated to the Science-based targets initiative, which drives ambitious climate action within the private sector. Furthermore, they are founding members of the First Movers Coalition, a collaborative effort to create early markets for innovative clean technologies in sectors that face significant challenges in emissions reduction.

The Science-Based Targets Initiative, in which both companies actively participate, plays a pivotal role in guiding organizations to set emissions reduction targets aligned with the latest climate science. By adhering to science-based targets, companies can contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Holcim, with its presence in over 60 countries and a dedicated workforce of around 60,000 employees, positions itself as a global leader in sustainable building solutions.

    Lekker bezig !
