    PSEG sells stake in Ocean Wind 1 project

    PSEG announced Jan. 18 it agreed to sell its 25% equity stake in the Ocean Wind 1 offshore wind project to Ørsted.

    The two companies have been partners on the project — the first offshore wind farm in the Garden State, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2024. Wednesday’s announcement means Ørsted will now have 100% ownership of Ocean Wind 1, with PSEG continuing to provide support with onshore infrastructure construction.

    “As Ocean Wind 1 has evaluated the optimal way to move forward, it has become clear that it is best for the project for PSEG to step aside and allow for a better positioned tax investor to join the project so that it can proceed with an optimized tax structure,” said Lathrop Craig, PSEG’s senior vice president and chief commercial officer. “While this was a difficult decision, it was driven by the best interests of the project and New Jersey’s offshore wind goals. PSEG will continue to actively support offshore wind in New Jersey and the region.”

    PSEG says that it remains committed to Gov. Phil Murphy’s clean energy policies and goals of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030.

    While this was a difficult decision, it was driven by the best interests of the project and New Jersey’s offshore wind goals.

    The company says it will continue to help the state and nation realize the potential of offshore wind, providing support through transmission solutions, support for the New Jersey Wind Port, and PSEG’s clean energy investments.

    “PSEG has been a valuable partner as we have advanced Ocean Wind 1 to this point and as we’ve successfully advanced our offshore wind vision in the United State,” said David Hardy, group executive vice president and CEO Americas at Ørsted. “With a well-established presence in the U.S., we’re confident in our ability to drive the project forward with commercial operations beginning as planned.”

    Pending the required closing conditions, the transaction between Ørsted and PSEG is expected to close in the first half of this year.

    Zonder enig benul van de details, verbaast het mij dat Ørsted als Deens bedrijf kennelijk belastingvoordelen heeft t.o.v. het Amerikaanse PSEG. Ik zou verwachten dat zowel belastingen als eventuele subsidies in de overwegingen worden meegenomen. Nu lijkt e.e.a. haaks te staan op het voortrekken van Amerikaanse bedrijven door de Amerikaanse regering, zoals in de (mainstream) media wordt aangegeven.

    Ørsted neemt een hit op offshore, verwacht nog steeds het hoogste jaarlijkse bedrijfsresultaat

    'S Werelds toonaangevende offshore windontwikkelaar Ørsted verwacht bedrijfswinst ( EBITDA ) voor 2022 tot een totaal van 32,1 miljard DKK ( 4,3 miljard EUR ), de hoogste EBITDA van het bedrijf tot nu toe, gebaseerd op voorlopige en niet-gecontroleerde rapportage.

    De resultaten vallen binnen de laatste richtlijnen en boven de aanvankelijke verwachtingen van het bedrijf voor het jaar, behaald gedurende een jaar met ongebruikelijke marktomstandigheden, inclusief zeer volatiele energieprijzen en een aanzienlijke stijging van de inflatie, zei de comany.

    De winst van de 50 procent bedrijfsstoringen van Hornsea 2 en Borkum Riffgrund 3 bedroeg in totaal 11,0 miljard DKK.

    EBITDA exclusief nieuwe partnerschapsovereenkomsten zal naar verwachting 21,1 miljard DKK bedragen, een stijging van 5,3 miljard DKK in vergelijking met 2021.

    Dit werd toegeschreven aan de diverse portefeuille van het bedrijf en aanzienlijk hogere inkomsten uit de onshore wind- en zonne-PV-activiteiten, de warmtekrachtcentrales en de gasactiviteiten, terwijl de winst in Offshore daalde van 9,5 miljard DKK in 2021 tot 8,6 miljard DKK in 2022.

    De onverwachte afname van Offshore was voornamelijk te wijten aan de nadelige gevolgen van heggen en vertragingen bij de bouwprojecten Hornsea 2 en Greater Changhua 1 & 2a.

    Ørsted to Acquire PSEG’s Equity Share in Ocean Wind 1

    Ørsted has signed an agreement to acquire Public Service Enterprise Group’s 25 % equity stake in the 1,100 MW offshore wind energy project Ocean Wind 1 located approx. 24 km off the coast of southern New Jersey in the US. The acquisition provides Ørsted with 100 % ownership of Ocean Wind 1.

    As Ocean Wind 1 continues its planning and development, Ørsted will ensure the project delivers affordable energy to New Jersey, while providing economic opportunity across the state and region. PSEG will support onshore infrastructure construction.

    Ørsted has 30 years of experience in offshore wind energy, including operating the first US offshore wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island. As the US leader in offshore wind with 5 GW in development, Ørsted is advancing the offshore wind industry supply chain, having stimulated more than USD 2 billion in US investments to date.

    Danish energy company Ørsted is building Europe’s largest commercial production facility for carbon-neutral marine fuels in northeastern Sweden. At the heart of the FlagshipONE plant are technology packages from Siemens Energy comprising of four Prometric ton Exchange Membrane electrolyzers with a total capacity of 70MW, as well as the plant-wide electrification and automation systems, including innovative digitalization solutions such as the use of digital twins and the entire power distribution and compressor systems.

    The plant, which is being built in the Swedish coastal town of Örnsköldsvik, will be able to produce up to 50,000 metric tons of e-methanol per year from renewable energy and biogenic carbon dioxide from 2025. As a substitute for fossil fuels, this can avoid 100,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year in shipping.

    Ørsted’s plant represents the start of commercial production of carbon neutral e-methanol in Europe, based on a unique approach. Instead of building bespoke plants at each location, FlagshipONE will act as a blueprint that can be scaled and replicated at other locations, in Sweden and elsewhere. The standardization approach has been created by the Swedish company Liquid Wind, the original developer of FlagshipONE. Liquid Wind develops replicable facilities to produce e-fuel and has plans to develop at least ten facilities in Scandinavia by 2030. As a partner to Liquid Wind, Siemens Energy plays a significant part in developing and progressing this trailblazing concept and provides the framework for turning these e-fuel facilities into reality with its technology package.

    Maandag maakte de Deense offshore windontwikkelaar Ørsted bekend dat hij een Natura 2000-vergunning heeft gekregen voor zijn Skåne offshore windproject ten zuiden van de Zweedse kust. Die werd verleend door het bestuur van de Zweedse zuidelijke provincie Skåne, dat de regering in december vorig jaar had aanbevolen het windpark goed te keuren. Het Skånepark is onderdeel van een reeks van 6 offshore windparken met een totale geplande productiecapaciteit van 18 GW.

    Voor Ørsted zijn er nu geen obstakels meer voor het verkrijgen van een overheidsvergunning voor het park. Als die er snel komt, zou het park al in 2029 stroom zou kunnen gaan leveren. De vergunning was nodig omdat het project in de nabijheid ligt van het Natura 2000-gebied in de wateren ten zuidwesten van Skåne. Van alle Ørsted-projecten in Zweden is Skånepark het verst gevorderd in het vergunningsproces. Het Deense schone energie concern ontwikkelt in totaal zes offshore-windprojecten in Zweden, waarvan er vier in januari zijn aangekondigd.

    De bijkomende projecten zullen de offshore windportfolio van de onderneming in Scandinavië uitbreiden tot 18 GW. Zij zullen naar verwachting vanaf 2032 stroom produceren. Eenmaal gebouwd zullen deze windparken genoeg stroom produceren om ruim de helft van het totale Zweedse elektriciteitsverbruik te dekken, aldus Ørsted. Twee van de nieuwe projecten, genaamd Gävle Öst en Gävle Väst, met een capaciteit van respectievelijk 5,5 GW en 4 GW komen aan de oostkust van Zweden voor de kust van de provincies Gävleborg en Uppsala. Meer naar het zuiden zit het, al eerder aangekondigde, 1,5 GW Gotland Havsvindpark ten zuidwesten van het eiland Gotland in de planning en nog meer naar het zuiden, voor de kust van de provincie Blekinge, bouwt Ørsted het 4 GW Baltic Central Havsvindpark. Het eveneens 1,5 GW Kattegatt Havsvindpark voor de westkust ter hoogte van Halmstad en Falkenberg maakt als zesde project deel uit van de portfolio.

    De offshore windenergieprojecten zijn strategisch gepland om elektriciteit daar te leveren waar die het meest nodig is. Op die manier dragen ze bij aan het verminderen van de behoefte aan dure uitbreidingen van het transmissienetwerk van noord-Zweden naar de plaatsen in het zuiden waar de elektriciteitsvraag het grootst is.

    Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) said today it has acquired its second solar project in Ireland, the 160-MW Garrenleen scheme near Carlow in the southeastern part of the country.

    The Danish clean energy group purchased the project from renewables developer Terra Solar for an undisclosed sum.

    Subject to a final investment decision, Ørsted plans to deliver the project in two phases, with 81 MW to be completed in 2025 and 79 MW in 2026. Garrenleen will be one of Ireland’s largest solar farms upon completion.

    The project supports Ørsted’s goal of reaching 17.5 GW of onshore capacity globally by 2030.

    The company noted that the Irish government’s 2030 renewable energy targets have recently been increased, with the solar goal raised to 8 GW. TJ Hunter, senior director for Onshore Ireland & UK in Ørsted, also commented: “It’s critical, however, that government targets are supported by robust investments in grid infrastructure capacity, predictable grid connection timelines, planning timelines, and market structures that can deliver.”

    Ørsted last year acquired its first solar project, the 65-MW Ballinrea development, also from Terra Solar. The Danish group already operates 360 MW of onshore wind in Ireland.

    “Ørsted is committed to multi-technology deployment, investing in a variety of renewable energy sources to ensure reliability and independence of supply,” said TJ Hunter.

    COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Het Deense Orsted, 's werelds nummer 1 ontwikkelaar van offshore windparken, rapporteerde woensdag een operationele winst over het eerste kwartaal in lijn met de verwachtingen en bevestigde zijn eerder dit jaar afgegeven verwachtingen voor het hele jaar.

    De winst voor rente, belasting, afschrijvingen en amortisatie (EBITDA) over het eerste kwartaal, exclusief nieuwe partnerschappen, daalde met 12% tot 6,91 miljard Deense kronen ($1,02 miljard), vergeleken met de 6,9 miljard die analisten verwachtten in een door het bedrijf gehouden enquête.

    "Wij zijn tevreden met de resultaten van het eerste kwartaal, waarin de inkomsten van onze offshore locaties weer op schema liggen als belangrijkste aanjager (van het bedrijfsresultaat)", zei Chief Executive Mads Nipper in een verklaring.

    Danish clean energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) today confirmed its full-year guidance for EBITDA excluding earnings from new partnerships despite a lower first-quarter operating profit that was in line with expectations.

    The offshore wind major booked earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of DKK 6.9 billion (USD 1.02bn/EUR 925.6m), marking a 27% drop from the previous year when its performance was positively impacted by a gain associated with the 50% farm-downs of Hornsea 2 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 projects. Excluding new partnerships, EBITDA slipped by 12% in annual terms.

    In the offshore segment, total EBITDA contracted by 9% resulting from the gain in the year-ago period, whereas earnings from offshore wind sites, operations and maintenance and power purchase agreements rose by 58% to DKK 5.86 billion thanks to increased power generation and the lack of hedging effects that occurred in the first quarter of 2022.

    At DKK 29.36 billion, revenues fell by 13% on the year due to the decrease in power prices across all markets and the lower gas volume sales. About three-quarters of the total came from the offshore wind segment, which contributed DKK 22.14 billion.

    Ørsted geselecteerd voor het grootschalige project voor koolstofafvang en -opslag in Denemarken

    Het Deense Energieagentschap heeft Ørsted Bioenergy & Thermal Power een 20-jarig contract gegund voor het eerste full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS)-project in Denemarken, dat vanaf 2026 430.000 ton CO2 per jaar zal afvangen en opslaan.

    Het Ørsted Kalundborg Hub- project zal ervoor zorgen dat Ørsted koolstof vastlegt in zijn met houtsnippers gestookte Asnæs-krachtcentrale in Kalundborg in het westen van Seeland en in de strogestookte ketel van de Avedøre-krachtcentrale in de regio Groot-Kopenhagen.

    150.000 ton biogene CO2 per jaar zal worden opgevangen uit de met stro gestookte eenheid van de krachtcentrale van Avedøre. De CO2 zal in eerste instantie per vrachtwagen naar de energiecentrale van Asnæs worden vervoerd totdat er een gedeelde pijpleidinginfrastructuur door heel Zeeland is aangelegd.

    Ørsted zal 280.000 ton biogene CO2 per jaar afvangen uit de houtsnippergestookte eenheid van de elektriciteitscentrale van Asnæs, die ook zal fungeren als een CO2-hub, waarbij biogene koolstof van zowel de gecombineerde warmtekrachtcentrales van Avedøre als Asnæs naar het noordelijke Lichten opslagreservoir in het Noorse deel van de Noordzee.

    De Asnæs Power Station zal mogelijk ook worden gebruikt voor het vervoeren van CO2 geproduceerd door andere uitstoters.

    "We zijn ongelooflijk blij met het resultaat van het aanbestedingsproces en we kijken ernaar uit om te beginnen met het opzetten van een koolstof afvang faciliteit bij twee van onze warmtekrachtkoppelingscentrales die draaien op duurzaam stro en houtsnippers", aldus Ole Thomsen , Senior Vice President en hoofd van de bio-energieactiviteiten van Ørsted.

    “Volgens het Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) van de VN is het afvangen en opslaan van biogene CO2 een van de instrumenten die we moeten gebruiken om klimaatverandering te bestrijden, en ons CCS-project zal aanzienlijk bijdragen aan het realiseren van de politiek vastgestelde Deense klimaatdoelstellingen voor 2025 en 2030.”

    In de loop van 2025 zullen de gecombineerde warmtekrachtcentrales van Asnæs en Avedøre beginnen met het afvangen en opslaan van biogene koolstof, en vanaf 2026 zullen de twee eenheden elk jaar ongeveer 430.000 ton biogene CO2 afvangen en opslaan.

    Het Noorse Aker Carbon Capture zal vijf Just Catch-eenheden leveren aan de WKK-installaties, extra apparatuur zoals liquefactiesystemen en tijdelijke CO2-opslag- en on-/offloadfaciliteiten.

    Ter directe ondersteuning van het project heeft Microsoft ermee ingestemd om gedurende 11 jaar 2,76 miljoen ton hoogwaardige, duurzame koolstofverwijdering te kopen uit de afvang en opslag van biogene koolstof van de Asnæs Power Station. Dit vertegenwoordigt tot nu toe een van 's werelds grootste afnameovereenkomsten voor koolstofverwijdering in volume.

    OSLO, 8 juni (Reuters) - Hernieuwbare energiegroep Orsted ORSTED.CO zei woensdag laat dat het tegen 2030 475 miljard Deense kronen ($ 68,3 miljard) zal investeren om zijn doel te bereiken om aan het eind 50 gigawatt (GW) geïnstalleerd vermogen te hebben van het decennium.

They have pioneered a solution to break down composite materials and reuse recovered epoxy resin for new blades, thus reducing the need for landfilling.     ESB, Ireland's leading utility, and Ørsted, a global leader in offshore wind, have embarked on a groundbreaking partnership to jointly develop an extraordinary portfolio of offshore wind projects along the Irish coast. The historic agreement was officially launched at Fitzgerald House, hosted by the Cork Chamber, and witnessed the presence of Simon Coveney TD, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Jim Dollard from ESB, and Duncan Clark, Head of UK and Ireland at Ørsted.

    This remarkable collaboration establishes Ørsted as an equal 50/50 partner in a pipeline of offshore wind development ventures. The partnership holds immense potential, aiming to deliver up to five gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy and complementary renewable hydrogen projects. The first of these ambitious offshore wind projects is expected to participate in the upcoming Irish offshore wind auction, known as ORESS 2.1.

    Ireland, with a maritime area more than ten times its landmass, is uniquely positioned to cultivate a robust and dynamic offshore sector. This development will play a vital role in decarbonizing the Irish electricity system and facilitate future exports of renewable energy to Europe. The partnership also encompasses a commitment to explore opportunities in renewable hydrogen produced from these projects, contributing to Ireland's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.

He emphasized ESB's commitment to developing a robust renewables pipeline and expressed delight in partnering with Ørsted, a global leader in offshore wind, to advance this portfolio in Ireland.     Het Amerikaanse Bureau of Ocean Energy Management keurde woensdag het Ocean Wind 1-project van Ørsted ( OTCPK:DNNGY ) goed, waarmee de weg werd geëffend voor de installatie van maar liefst 98 turbines voor de kust van New Jersey.

    Het project heeft naar schatting een opwekkingscapaciteit van 1.100 MW, waarmee meer dan 380.000 huishoudens van stroom kunnen worden voorzien.

    Ocean Wind 1 is het derde nieuwe offshore windenergieproject dat is goedgekeurd door de regering Biden: Ørsted ( OTCPK: DNNGY ) bouwt al het South Fork-windpark voor de kust van Rhode Island en New York in een joint venture met Eversource Energy; er wordt ook gewerkt aan het Vineyard Wind-project voor de kust van Massachusetts, dat in mei 2021 door de VS werd goedgekeurd.

    Vorige week keurde de staatswetgever van New Jersey ternauwernood een maatregel goed waardoor Ørsted ( OTCPK: DNNGY ) belastingkredieten voor het Ocean Wind 1-project mag behouden die het anders zou moeten teruggeven aan de belastingbetalers in New Jersey.

    Het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken heeft vandaag de goedkeuring bekendgemaakt van het 704 MW Revolution Wind-project voor de kust van Rhode Island.
    Het Orsted-Eversource Energy offshore windproject, gelegen ten zuidoosten van Point Judith, Rhode Island, zal het doel van president Biden helpen verwezenlijken om tegen 2030 30 GW aan offshore windenergiecapaciteit in te zetten.

    Dit is de vierde goedkeuring door het ministerie van een offshore windenergieproject op commerciële schaal, dat aansluit bij het Vineyard Wind-project voor de kust van Massachusetts, het South Fork Wind-project voor de kust van Rhode Island en New York, en het Ocean Wind 1-project voor de kust van New Jersey.

    De hoeveelheid berichten van jullie over Orsted is indrukwekkend. Het wekt sterk de indruk dat jullie heel dicht bij het Orsted-vuur zitten. Dus misschien dat jullie antwoord kunnen geven op mijn vraag.
    Als LT-belegger volg ik het aandeel Orsted sinds 2020. In die tijd bleef de waarde maar toenemen, tot een ATH van zo’n 1350 DKK rond de jaarwisseling 2020/2021. Bij 900 DKK begin 2021, had ik de neiging om op de aankoopknop te drukken. Ik heb toen de aandrang kunnen weerstaan. Gelukkig maar, want op dit moment zit Orsted in de range van 525-550 DKK. Grofweg een halvering sinds begin 2021. Dat is toch een serieuze waardevermindering in korte tijd!
    En dan nu mijn vraag. Hoe kan het toch dat Orsted de afgelopen tijd zo sterk in waarde is gedaald?

    Op Marketscreener kan je “zeepbellen” duidelijk zien aankomen en dan moet je zeker niet kopen…evenals een realistischer toekomstige koers volgens analisten.

    Het was dus in de sterren geschreven dat de koers van Orsted, alvast zou zakken naar +/- 1000 Dkk.

    Maar toen ontstonden diverse problemen:
    • Dispuut Orsted en UK over te betalen belastingen en de Brexit hielp hier niet…
    • Men ontdekte beschadigde kabelverbindingen op de zeebodem. (de problemen bij Siemens energy hielpen ook niet, hoewel die kosten voor rekening van Siemens zijn, maar Orsted moet zijn verkopen soms uitstellen)
    • Grote oliebedrijven (BP, Shell, Total) gaven extreme bedragen voor nieuwe offshore licenties, waardoor men vreesde dat Orsted in de toekomst niet meer aan bod kon komen.
    • De stijgende rente, maakt nieuwe offshore windparken duur, maar de inflatie explosie maakte ze peperduur, waardoor o.a. Vattenfall een project in die koelkast zette.
    o Opnieuw gaf dit meer onzekerheid over de offshore industrie.
    o In de US gaat Orsted verder, met UK is men opnieuw in “gesprek” voor de toekomstige windparken in de planning (die men reeds effectieve bouwde, gaan door)

    Orsted heeft verder een “speciaal” businessmodel, ze bouwen offshore windparken, niet met de bedoeling om die nadien 25 jaar te exploiteren, maar verkopen deze in grote stukken aan grote bedrijven (Microsoft, Nestlé, enz want deze willen zo aan hun klimaat doelstellingen te voldoen) ofwel verkoop grote pensioenfondsen (USA).

    Met dit geld, winst en leningen, bouwt men de nieuwe windparken. De exploitatie blijft tegen vergoeding wel voor hun rekening.
    (Enkele wind, zon, bio centrales en warmtenetten, voornamelijk in DK en US, blijven wel in hun handen, en zorgen wel voor stabiele inkomsten = +/- 50%)

    Door deze verkopen is hun kwartaalwinst, telkens héél volantiel, tegen vorig jaar, waardoor het moeilijk inschatten is wat de toekomst gaat geven… zoals met veel aandelen die in internationale wateren opereren.

    Alle nutsbedrijven hebben last van die stijgende rente, maar hebben op iets langere termijn zeker een toekomst volgens mij: Elia, Nextera Energy, Orsted, Verbund. (Hoogspanning, zon, wind, waterkracht, laadpalen, waterstof, energie eilanden)

    Uw slotopmerking over nutsbedrijven is opvallend. Want per definitie heeft elk bedrijf last van de stijgende rente en heeft elk bedrijf een toekomst. Maar voor bedrijven in andere sectoren, bijvoorbeeld NVIDIA, ziet die toekomst er op dit moment net even wat rooskleuriger uit. Daar staat tegenover dat in het kader van duurzame energie (nuts)bedrijven als Orsted, Vestas, e.d. een belangrijke maatschappelijke rol vervullen. Daarom is en blijft een bedrijf als Orsted voor mij als LT-belegger interessant. En nu de recente koersdaling van Orsted zich lijkt te stabiliseren, komt mijn instapmoment wel heel dichtbij.
