Ook 7 sep. X-FAB Becomes First Foundry to Offer High-Volume Micro-Transfer Printing Capabilities Following Licensing Agreement with X-Celeprint Long-term collaboration, plus major engineering investment, leads to highly cost-effective, scalable, and convenient methodology for heterogeneous integration of different semiconductor process technologies. X-FAB Silicon Foundries, the leading foundry for analog/mixed-signal and specialty semiconductor solutions, is now able to support volume heterogeneous integration via Micro-Transfer Printing (MTP), thanks to a licensing agreement that has just been secured with X-Celeprint. This will mean that a diverse range of semiconductor technologies may be combined together, each being optimized for particular functional requirements. These will include SOI, GaN, GaAs and InP, as well as MEMS. In order to become the first foundry to provide customers with MTP-based heterogeneous integration, X-FAB has made substantial investments over the last two years. It has also established new optimized workflows and cleanroom protocols. This will allow customers to work with the foundry on heterogeneous design projects - benefitting from a low-risk and fully scalable business model that offers a clear migration to volume production. X-Celeprint’s proprietary massively-parallel pick-and-place MTP technology stacks and fans-out ultra-thin dies based on different process nodes, technologies, and wafer sizes. It results in the formation of virtually monolithic 3D stacked ICs, which have enhanced performance, greater power efficiency, and take up less space. Furthermore, all this can be achieved at an accelerated rate, thereby significantly shortening time-to-market. “By licensing X-Celeprint’s disruptive MTP technology, we are uniquely positioned in our ability to facilitate the incorporation of numerous different semiconductor technologies. X-FAB customers will be able to utilize a technology that no other foundry is offering, and existing X-Celeprint customers may now tap into capacity levels that will easily meet their future demands,” Volker Herbig, VP of X-FAB’s MEMS business unit, explains. “As a result, we can assist customers looking to implement complete multifunctional subsystems at the wafer level, even when there are high degrees of complexity involved. Signal conditioning, power, RF, MEMS, and CMOS sensors, optoelectronic devices, optical filters, and countless other possibilities will all be covered.” “Our agreement with X-FAB represents a major milestone in the commercialization of MTP technology, broadening the number of customers and applications,” states Kyle Benkendorfer, X-Celeprint’s CEO. “High-volume heterogeneous integration of elements derived from various different source wafers will provide the semiconductor industry with significant new capabilities, including access to higher density devices with more functionality, fabricated at high yields and lower cost, within shorter timeframes.” ### About X-FAB X-FAB is the leading analog/mixed-signal and MEMS foundry group manufacturing silicon wafers for automotive, industrial, consumer, medical and other applications. LIGENTEC and X-FAB collaboration creates Europe’s largest capacity foundry service for integrated photonic circuits Tessenderlo, Belgium – Sep 14, 2021 Strategic partnership will address rapidly growing demand across a broad range of industry sectors LIGENTEC, pioneer in high-performance, low-loss, silicon nitride photonic solutions, and specialty semiconductor producer X-FAB Silicon Foundries have announced a strategic partnership resulting in the large-scale supply of integrated photonic devices. Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are set to repeat the success story of electronic integrated circuits (ICs). Working with light instead of electrons, PICs will play a key role in tomorrow's infrastructure for communication, biosensing and transportation. “Silicon nitride offers superior performance to manage the light in the chip circuitry, with unprecedented low propagation losses and high-power handling,” states Michael Zervas, co-founder of LIGENTEC. “While there is growing worldwide demand for silicon nitride PICs, the missing piece is a commercial volume foundry that can keep pace with the expected uptake.” LIGENTEC has implemented its proprietary, patented, low-loss silicon nitride process technology within X-FAB’s existing high-throughput foundry workflow. It means that LIGENTEC PICs are now commercially available in high volumes out of Europe, a key requisite enabling the secure and independent supply of the quantities foreseen in relation to sensors for self-driving cars, environment monitoring, quantum computers and an array of other applications. “This partnership allows us to offer the benefits of our technology to high volume customers,” says LIGENTEC’s Director Thomas Hessler. “X-FAB’s advanced equipment and superior process control will enable us to serve the mass market with elevated performance PICs. Its multiple sites and capacity to deal with 100,000 new 200 mm wafer starts per month gives exceptional supply assurance and almost limitless scope for scaling. The proven track record X-FAB has in the automotive and medical sectors will open up new opportunities for LIGENTEC.” “The integrated photonics market has huge potential. We have partnered with LIGENTEC because it has the highest performance and the most mature offering for passive PICs. This is complemented by a great customer orientation and strong development pipeline, rooted in the company’s long-term R&D relationship with EPFL in Lausanne. We are highly committed to exploring the future possibilities of PICs through our partnership with LIGENTEC, acting as a pillar of strong growth for X-FAB’s specialty foundry business,” adds Rudi De Winter, CEO of X-FAB. Thanks to this strategic partnership with X-FAB, LIGENTEC now takes volume production requests for low-loss silicon nitride PICs, based on 200 mm wafers. evertiq.com/design/50632 Vertaald Ligentec en X-FAB ondertekenen samenwerkingsovereenkomst Ligentec en gespecialiseerde halfgeleiderproducent X-FAB Silicon Foundries hebben een strategisch partnerschap aangekondigd voor de grootschalige levering van geïntegreerde fotonische apparaten.

Oh, gaan we lekker opscheppen over onze GAK? Oké, ik doe mee met een GAK van 2,00. :-)
