    staatsmanschap....allemaal vervelende uitvindingen die alleen in de verdoemde democratie thuishoren.

    Dat het volgens jou "wel zal kloppen dat in Rusland niet zachtzinnig met kritiek wordt omgegaan", is een enorm eufemisme. Toch ben je nog niet helemaal overtuigd? "Dus moet je je niet kritisch uitlaten" is jouw conclusie. Gelukkig zijn er nog mensen die dat wel durven - maar het is duidelijk dat ze op jouw steun niet hoeven te rekenen.

    Sanctions expected to be announced later on Wednesday would go further than US and UK sanctions

    EU to unveil toughest sanctions on Russians yet

    Russia’s defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, the commanders-in-chief of the Russian Air Force and Black Sea Fleet, leading state “propagandists” - as well as 351 Duma deputies - are expected to be targeted in EU sanctions announced later on Wednesday.

    The measures, which have to be signed off by EU foreign ministers, would go further than those announced by the US - and well beyond Boris Johnson’s Russia sanctions.

    If approved, the EU will impose asset freezes and travel bans on 23 people, three banks and a notorious internet ‘troll factory’ in St Petersburg, in response to Russian president Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognise the self-proclaimed republics in Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states. The bloc is also expected to sanction 351 members of the Russian state Duma that voted for recognition of the two territories.

    The Russian government will also see further restrictions on its ability to raise money on EU financial markets. EU officials are also drawing up measures to ban trade between the two Russian-controlled territories in eastern Ukraine, mirroring earlier sanctions on Crimea in 2014.

    “Everyone seems on board for the adoption of sanctions,” an EU diplomat said. EU capitals have a few hours to send comments, with ministers expected to approve the sanctions at 3pm CET.

    At the top of the sanctions list is Shoigu, because he is “ultimately responsible for any military action against Ukraine”, according to the draft list seen by the Guardian. He is joined by Anton Vaino, Putin’s chief of staff, who “plays an active role in decision making”, as well as Igor Osipov, commander-in-chief of the Black Sea Fleet, and Sergei Surovikin, commander-in-chief of Russian Aerospace Forces.

    Other top officials include deputy prime minister and chair of state-owned VTB bank, Dmitry Grigorenko, and Igor Shuvalov, chair of Russia’s state development bank, VEB, which plays an important role in funding its defence sector.

    The EU is also targeting Russian “propagandists”, including foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, and the head of the RT channel, Margarita Simonyan, both of whom are known for their strident anti-western rhetoric. Vladimir Solovyov, the pro-Kremlin presenter of the Russia One channel, also makes the list.

    Other notable figures include Yevgeniy Prigozhin. Known as Putin’s chef, Prigozhin finances the Internet Research Agency (IRA), which has also been added to the EU sanctions list. Based in St Petersburg, the IRA is better known as the “troll factory” , where bloggers work around the clock to flood the global internet with pro-Putin and anti-western views. According to US sanctions, Prigozhin is also believed to be the “manager and financier” of the Wagner mercenary group, which is already subject to EU sanctions for its role in sending forces into conflicts in west Africa.

    Prigozhin’s mother and wife, who own companies with links to him, are also on the draft list.

    The sanctioned banks are Bank Rossiya, believed by EU and western officials to be the personal bank for Putin and many of his officials, as well as Promsvyazbank and Vnesheconombank, both considered by EU officials to be instructed personally by the Russian president, with a key role in financing Russia’s defence sector.

    EU leaders have signalled further sanctions could follow in the coming days. “Expect some more discussions on the broader big bang sanctions package later this week,” said the EU official.

    Ik vind het pro-Russische sentiment in Europa en specifiek ook Nederland zeer verontrustend, er wordt zelfs 20% van de bevolking genoemd. Ronduit onbegrijpelijk. Zijn er een aantal van de forumdeelnemers al bezig om een soort NSB op te richten? In afwachting van een belangrijke plek als Poetin tzt hier binnenwandelt? Of is Baudet daar al mee begonnen? Hoe kun je sympathie hebben voor een bloeddorstige machtswellusteling waarvoor een mensenleven geen Roebel waard is? Ik begrijp het niet. Wellicht is een quote uit Dirkjan relevant: 'de volgende keer heb ik liever niet dat je de hersens bij de poelier haalt, Igor'

    Het behoeft toch geen betoog dat de Westerse samenleving en democratische cultuur vele malen superieur zijn aan Rusland/communisme waar mensenlevens nauwelijks waarde hebben? Ik zei eerder al een keer: 'ga eens kijken in Oost Duitsland'.

    Het enige probleem met Europa is dat de Christelijke normen en waarden waar de hele samenleving op gebaseerd is worden losgelaten. Hierdoor verliest Europa haar kracht. De kracht van Europa is feitelijk uitsluitend nog financieel. Gelukkig laat Amerika haar Christelijke normen en waarden niet los. Vandaar dat de VS nog sterk is.

    Het enige dat we hier daarom nog kunnen doen is de VS steunen. Op iedere Dollar staat 'in God we trust'. En op de Roebel? zou ik niet weten - een afbeelding van Poetin of Stalin en de tekst 'in hell we trust', zoiets. Laten we vooral specifiek zijn en het beestje bij de naam noemen.

    Wat is de reden om dit forum te blijven bestoken met deze verhaaltjes, whataboutism, zonder enige feiten off onderbouwing te geven, gewoon om dictator Putin's gedrag acceptabel te doen overkomen ?

    Ach ja, die christelijke normen en waarden van de USA. Bommen op Afghanistan, bommen op Syrië, bommen op Libië, bommen op Irak, bommen op voormalig Joegoslavië..., dat is natuurlijk allemaal puur vanuit christelijke naastenliefde gedaan.

    Internationale politiek gaat over macht. De USA is het machtigste land ter wereld en zal er alles aan doen om deze positie te behouden. Dat is hetgene wat de opstelling t.o.v. Rusland bepaald en niet een of ander christelijk gedachtengoed. Vergelijk ook maar eens de volledig tegenovergestelde positie die de USA heeft t.o.v. Mohammad bin Salman van Saoedi-Arabië, wat nu ook niet bepaald een moreel verheven persoon is.

    Het enige wat we in Europa moeten doen is de internationale politiek ook meer vanuit een machtsperspectief beschouwen. Dat betekent onder andere de realisatie dat sinds het einde van de Koude oorlog het USA belang niet meer altijd gelijk is aan het belang van Europa. En voor de goede orde: het belang van Rusland is ook niet gelijk aan dat van Europa. Concreet betekent dit dat Europa hiervoor zijn eigen defensie op poten zal moet zetten en hierin niet langer afhankelijk moet zijn van de USA. Want de afhankelijkheid van de USA is niet langer in het belang van Europa.

    Is Gazprom’s LNG Megaproject Doomed To Fail?

    The gas giant Gazprom (OTC:OGZPY) is no longer in the spotlight after the US Treasury sanctioned Rosneft, the Russian national oil company, most probably triggering the collapse of the OPEC+ agreement and bringing about an unexpectedly low pricing environment for March 2020 within both the oil and gas segments. Having launched Power of Siberia to China, Gazprom (MCX:GAZP) is now intent on bringing Nord Stream-2 online before the end of the year, moving its own pipe-laying vessel from the Russian Far East to the Baltic region to deliver on all its major promises from the 2010s. Yet there is one project that has had significant problems starting up, combining in itself all the deficiencies of modern-day Russia.

    The 13 mtpa Baltic LNG project was expected to be Gazprom’s response to the sudden rise of successful LNG projects led by rival NOVATEK. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Shell (LON:RDSa) in 2016, with the aim of commissioning Baltic LNG in 2022, it seemed that everything is set for the project to succeed – the gas would have been supplied from the Unified Gas supply system (i.e. Russia’s central transmission grid as opposed to purpose-built liquefaction terminals with their own web of pipelines incoming from fields) and would be built right next to the point where Nord Stream-2 hits the Baltic Sea.

    One of the main reasons why Gazprom teamed up with Shell was the Anglo-Dutch major’s LNG know-how, a boon for Gazprom with no experience operating large-scale liquefied gas assets. Among others, Shell designed the LNG technology for the Sakhalin-2 plant, and it was widely assumed that it could share some of its state-of-the-art technologies to develop Russian LNG.
    Yet when Gazprom announced that it would bring RusGazDobycha onboard, a low-profile company with a history of ties to Arkady Rotenberg (President Putin’s erstwhile judo partner and close confidant) with zero previous exposure to LNG technologies, Shell backed out of the project.

    The fact that Rotenberg-owned structures are tied into Gazprom projects barely surprises anyone in Russia – they have been buying Gazprom subsidiaries since the mid-2000s, and most of the Gazprom’s pipelines are built by StroyGazMontazh.

    But in this specific case, the inclusion of RusGazDobycha came to the detriment of having Shell as a partner – as a consequence, Gazprom was forced to find another technological partner and it found one in the German engineering firm Linde. The two formed a JV in late 2019, on the back of Linde providing technological solutions for treating wet gas from Eastern Siberia to simultaneously supply the Chinese market with dry gas while creating new markets for helium, propane, butane and other compounds.

    In and of itself, bringing in a new partner and losing the other need not necessarily result in an unfavorable balance, yet Baltic LNG’s cost started to increase exponentially as the declared aims grew in ambition and scope. Russian media outlets have reported that building the LNG liquefaction complex and the petrochemical plant would cost a total of approximately $26 billion, however, these costs do not cover the expenses for building the seaport and other associated infrastructure. As it turns out, the shareholders still have no view on where the LNG terminal will be built - in the end, they might opt to have the terminal built next to an already functioning LPG terminal.

    But even with this in mind, additional expenses are almost guaranteed – primarily massive storage capacities. Fed from the federal trunk pipeline which is in maintenance at least once a year for a prolonged period, Baltic LNG would need a substantial amount of storage to weather situations like these. Moreover, it would be politic if Baltic LNG had a dedicated resource base to have it supplied from, and not to compete with, Gazprom’s pipeline supplies to Europe. Since Baltic LNG would need to be fed from fields that are relatively close to the existing transmission infrastructure, one of the assumed feedstocks for the project was the Achim 4 and 5 formations at Gazprom’s legacy Urengoy field in Western Siberia. Yet the talks with OMV, the Austrian oil and gas company, have so far failed to materialize in a clinched deal over discrepancies regarding the $1 billion price tag for the 25-percent stake.

    The end result of Gazprom’s long-mooted LNG revolution, as of March 2020, is as following: instead of a 2022 commissioning, the envisaged date to bring Baltic LNG onstream is 2025. And instead of the initial price tag of some $10 billion, the current cost tally would amount to some $28-29 billion. Truth be told, initial plans called for an LNG terminal on the Baltic coast, while right now Baltic LNG comprises the terminal itself, a 45 BCm per year gas processing plant that would partially feed Nord Stream-2 and allow for separate LPG and ethane export streams from Ust-Luga. One struggle to rid itself of the impression that the grandeur of Baltic LNG would still leave Gazprom in an incomparably minor position compared to the prime Russian LNG supplier, NOVATEK.

    Je maakt een denkfout. We hebben het hier op dit moment grotendeels over de perikelen in Oekraine. Niet over wat Poetin verder allemaal heeft gedaan in zijn regeerperiode. Zijn andere onderwerpen. Geef Poetin gelijk in de kwestie Oekraine. Las vanmorgen , dat Trump dat ook doet, zie artikel.
