    Jongens jongens wat een opwinding. Het is een oorlog, dus is het onvermijdelijk dat er van beide kanten mensenrechten worden geschonden. Natuurlijk schieten de Oekraïners vanuit steden, wat wil je anders als die steden belegerd worden? Er is ontzettend veel geschoten vanuit Mariopol bijvoorbeeld en daarbij zijn ongetwijfeld burgers in gevaar geweest. Dus dat is gewoon waar, om dat te zien hoef je niet ter plekke te zijn.

    Dus daar hoef je denk ik niet moeilijk over te doen: natuurlijk schenden de Oekraïners mensenrechten. Tegelijk kan je óók een rapport schrijven over wat de Russen allemaal uitspoken. Dan heb je een rapport dat 100x zo dik is. Alleen over de simpele mensenrechtenschendingen. Als vanuit een stad schieten een mensenrechtenschending is, dan is dagenlang op een stad schieten een ergere. En dan heb je ook nog een behoorlijk dik rapport over de oorlogsmisdaden en het regelrechte terrorisme.

    Dus mogen ze dit rapport schrijven? Natuurlijk mogen ze dat. Gelukkig wel. Is dat hun rol? Ja, dat is hun rol. Maar natuurlijk is dit wél een cadeautje voor Russische propaganda want in Rusland wordt dit natuurlijk breed uitgemeten en worden de rapporten over de Russische misdaden gecensureerd. Dat is klote en dat mensen daar boos over zijn dat begrijp ik helemaal, want de Russen houden zich helemaal nergens aan en doen ook geen enkele poging om "eerlijk" te spelen. Maar je doet er niet zo veel tegen.

    En als ik moet kiezen tussen iemand die uit zelfverdediging iemand anders van de trap duwde en een totaal gestoorde maniakale seriemoordenaar, dan weet ik welke mijn sympathie heeft. Beiden zijn in principe strafbaar en dat mag gesignaleerd worden, maar welke de ergste is, is meteen duidelijk.

    Luchtschip :En de MLRS systemen van Oekraine komen aanrijden, nemen positie in, schieten, en vertrekken gelijk weer ( shoot and scoot )
    Het is mogelijk voor de Russen hun co ordinaten te weten op basis van een binnengekomen projectiel, maar terug schieten heeft geen zin, want het Oekrainse MLRS systeem is al weer vertrokken

    Had een tijdje terug ergens gelezen dat de Zweden ook over zo 'n soort MLRS zouden beschikken en deze ook aan Oekraïne zou hebben geleverd .Nadien nooit meer iets over vernomen .Weet jij daar misschien iets meer over ?

    Ook lokale afdeling Amnesty bekritiseert rapport
    Ook de lokale Oekraïense afdeling van Amnesty International heeft grote kritiek op het rapport dat de hoofdtak van de mensenrechtenorganisatie gisteren uitbracht. Ze onderschrijft de uitkomsten van het onderzoek niet eens een beetje, schrijft directeur Oksana Pokalchuk op Facebook.

    In het rapport staat dat het Oekraïense leger de burgers onnodig in gevaar brengt met zijn gevechtstactieken. Het zou militaire bases opslaan in civiele gebouwen, zoals ziekenhuizen. Die gebouwen worden daardoor vanzelf een aanvalsdoel van de Russen.

    Volgens de lokale afdeling is die conclusie niet terecht. Pokalchuk schrijft alles eraan gedaan te hebben de publicatie van het rapport tegen te houden. Al vroeg in het proces zou de Oekraïense tak buitenspel zijn gezet en zouden zijn opmerkingen zijn genegeerd.

    De directeur geeft geen voorbeelden welke aspecten van het rapport niet correct zijn weergegeven. Desondanks zetten haar opmerkingen de mensenrechtenorganisatie verder onder druk om met bewijslast te komen voor de beweringen.

    De EU heeft Oekraïens oud-president Viktor Janoekovytsj en zijn zoon Oleksandr op de sanctielijst gezet. Volgens de EU hebben de twee een rol gespeeld bij het "ondermijnen van de soevereiniteit en onafhankelijkheid van Oekraïne".

    • De VS verdenken Rusland ervan te knoeien met het bewijsmateriaal op de plek van de aanval op een gevangenis met Oekraïense krijgsgevangenen in de provincie Donetsk vorige week.

    Russia abandons Donbas offensive to reinforce southern flank ahead of expected Ukrainian counteroffensive

    SEIZING THE STRATEGIC INITIATIVE’: Russia is taking Ukraine's threat to retake the southern province of Kherson seriously, shifting forces from its eastern front to prepare for an expected Ukrainian assault to reclaim lost territory in the south.

    “Ukraine is likely seizing the strategic initiative and forcing Russia to reallocate forces and reprioritize efforts,” says the latest assessment from the Institute for the Study of War. “Russian forces are increasingly transferring personnel and equipment to Kherson and western Zaporizhia Oblasts at the expense of their efforts to seize Slovyansk and Siversk, which they appear to have abandoned.”

    “Russian forces are also redeploying military equipment — artillery and aviation in particular — to Crimea from elsewhere in Ukraine,” according to the Washington-based think tank. “Ukraine’s preparations for the counteroffensive in Kherson and the initial operations in that counteroffensive combined with the dramatic weakening of Russian forces generally appear to be allowing Ukraine to begin actively shaping the course of the war for the first time.”

    CUTTING SUPPLY LINES: Ukraine continues to use the high-tech weaponry provided by the U.S., U.K., and Germany to effectively disrupt the ability of Russian forces to move ammunition and other supplies on the battlefield, according to the British Defense Ministry.

    “Ukraine’s missile and artillery units continue to target Russian military strongholds, personnel clusters, logistical support bases and ammunition depots,” the ministry tweeted yesterday. “This will highly likely impact Russian military logistical resupply and put pressure on Russian military combat support elements.”

    “There's been a very significant indicator that the firepower of Russia, at the very least the ammunition, has declined precipitously because the rate of fire of the Russians in the offensive actions that they have resumed have been dramatically reduced,” said retired Gen. David Petraeus on CNN.

    CNN quoted Western officials as saying the Russian casualty count has reached 75,000, with 20,000 dead and 55,000 wounded and out of action.

    “Meanwhile, Russia is trying to raise additional forces by telling the republics in the Russian Federation to provide a battalion. I mean, that is not the way to effectively, efficiently develop capable forces,” said Petraeus. “It gives you an indicator, I think, about the state of desperation of the Russians.”

    RUSSIA’S PLANTING FALSE FLAG: The U.S. is calling Russia’s allegation that Ukraine shelled a prison camp near Olenivka in eastern Ukraine propaganda, and it is warning that Moscow is preparing to buttress the fiction with planted evidence suggesting Ukraine targeted its heroes of Mariupol with U.S.-provided HIMARS rockets.

    “We anticipate that Russian officials will try to frame the Ukrainian Armed Forces in anticipation of journalists and potential investigators visiting the site of the attack,” said NSC spokesman John Kirby yesterday. “And we have reason to believe that the — that Russia would go so far as to make it appear that Ukrainian HIMARS — the High Mobility Advanced [Artillery] Rocket Systems — that have been in so much in the news lately — were to blame.”

    In his CNN interview, Petraeus reflected the view of Western experts that the explosion at the Olenivka camp — which killed 50 Ukrainian prisoners but curiously no Russians — did not bear the hallmarks of an artillery strike.

    “All of the evidence, and there is quite a bit of it in today's day and age — you can get commercial satellites, you can get a lot of different information through open sources, and so far, it seems pretty conclusive that this was a false flag attack,” said Petraeus. “This was Russia carrying out a horrific action against individuals, prisoners of war, who are viewed as real heroes in Ukraine.”

    'There’s no path out of economic oblivion for Russia’

    New report reveals how corporate exodus has already wiped out decades of post–Cold War growth

    Over the past six months, Russia has fortified its economic defenses after Western countries pummeled it with sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.

    Despite the crackdown, the Kremlin continues to rake in billions in oil and gas revenues, which helped the ruble rally to become the world’s best-performing currency this year.

    But all is not well with the Russian economy.

    The Western sanctions and widespread corporate exodus from Russia since Feb. 24 have ravaged the Russian economy—and its future prospects look even bleaker, according to a new report from Yale University researchers and economists led by Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Yale School of Management professor and senior associate dean for leadership studies. It’s now become clear that the Kremlin’s “finances are in much, much more dire straits than conventionally understood” and that the large-scale “business retreats and sanctions are catastrophically crippling the Russian economy,” the researchers wrote.
    Deterioration

    As of Aug. 4, over 1,000 companies, including U.S. firms like Nike, IBM, and Bain consulting, have curtailed their operations in Russia. Though some businesses have stayed, the mass corporate exodus represents 40% of Russia’s GDP and reverses 30 years’ worth of foreign investment, says the Yale report.

    The international retreat is morphing into a larger crisis for the country: a collapse in foreign imports and investments.

    Russia has descended into a technological crisis as a result of its isolation from the global economy. It’s having trouble securing critical technology and parts. “The domestic economy is largely reliant on imports across industries…with few exceptions,” says the report. Western export controls have largely halted the flow of imported technology from smartphones to data servers and networking equipment, straining its tech industry. Russia’s biggest internet company, Yandex—the country’s version of Google—is running short of the semiconductor chips it needs for its servers.

    t the same time, Russia’s “domestic production has come to a complete standstill—with no capacity to replace lost businesses, products, and talent,” the Yale report said. Russian producers and manufacturers are unable to fill the gaps left by the collapse of Western imports. Russia’s telecom sector for instance, now hopes to lean on China, India, and Israel to supply 5G equipment.

    In the weeks following the Ukraine invasion, the Kremlin largely prevented a “full scale financial crisis” owing to quick and harsh measures, like restricting the movement of money out of the country and imposing a 20% emergency interest rate hike, Laura Solanko, senior adviser at the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies in Transition, an organization that researches emerging economies, told Fortune last month. The ruble even rebounded from a March low, when it was valued at less than one U.S. cent.

    Yet Russia’s financial markets are the worst-performing in the world this year, the report noted. “Putin is resorting to patently unsustainable, dramatic fiscal and monetary intervention to smooth over these structural economic weaknesses,” which has led to a government budget deficit for the first time in years and drained the Kremlin’s foreign reserves even with its continued inflow of petrodollars, the researchers wrote. The Russian government is giving subsidies to businesses and individuals to mitigate any economic shocks caused by sanctions. This “inflated level” of fiscal and social stimulus, on top of military expenditures, is “simply unsustainable for the Kremlin,” the report said.

    And the ruble’s recent dramatic turnaround doesn’t indicate a strong Russian economy, but marks something far worse: the clear collapse of foreign imports. Sergei Guriev, scientific director of the economics program at Sciences Po, in France, and a research fellow at London-based think tank the Centre for Economic Policy Research, previously told Fortune that it represents a “very bad” situation for the nation.

    The EU is now phasing out Russian energy, which could hit the Kremlin’s oil and gas profits. Such a scenario would severely strain the Kremlin’s finances, since Western countries have frozen half of its $300 billion in foreign reserves.
    Heading toward economic oblivion

    Russia’s precarious economic position means that it faces even more dire, long-term challenges ahead.

    Sanctions aren’t designed to cause an immediate financial crisis or economic collapse, but are long-term tools to weaken a nation’s economy while isolating it from global markets, the report said. And the sanctions are doing exactly that for Russia.

    The country is losing its richest and most educated citizens as its economy crumbles. Most estimates say that at least 500,000 Russians have fled the country since Feb. 24, with the “vast majority being highly educated and highly skilled workers in competitive industries such as technology,” the report said. Many wealthy Russians who flee are taking their money with them. One estimate is that 20% of Russia’s ultra-high-net-worth individuals have left this year. In the first quarter of 2022, official capital outflows stood at $70 billion, according to Bank of Russia estimates—but this figure is likely to be a “gross underestimate” of the actual amount of money that has left the country, the Yale team wrote.

    Russian citizens are also set to become poorer, despite Putin’s minimum wage and pension income hikes. A former Putin aide predicts that the number of Russians living in poverty will likely double—and perhaps even triple, as the war continues. Russia “hasn’t seen the worst yet,” Russian political scientist Ilya Matveev, told Fortune last month.

    “There is no path out of economic oblivion as long as the allied countries remain unified in maintaining and increasing sanctions pressure against Russia,” the researchers wrote.

    Russian pilots told to 'brake less' as spare parts run out.

    Russian pilots have been told not to brake too much to reduce wear and tear amid a shortage of parts for plane repairs because of western sanctions.

    According to internal memos from four Russian airline companies, pilots have been asked to be gentle when braking and taxing.

    S7 Airlines has told pilots to use engine reverse thrust and to avoid autobrake mode if the runaway is long enough, the Aviatorshina Telegram channel reported. Pilots were also told they shouldn’t go hard on brakes in order to get off the runaway quickly to make way for other planes.

    Urals Airlines, Rossiya and Pobeda published similar memos instructing pilots to “pay close attention to a temporary policy of fuel efficiency and economising the aircraft’s resources”.

    Traffic control were given separate instructions to offer aircraft longer slots for landing to give planes more time to taxi off the runway.

    International companies refusing to supply spare parts!

    Aeroflot did not issue similar memos in writing but Aviatorshina, a popular aviation media outlet in Russia, quoted an Aeroflot pilot, saying they have been told to spare brakes as well.

    Russian airline companies are grappling with a shortage of spare parts as international companies refuse to sell to them owing to sanctions put in place after the invasion of Ukraine.

    According to estimates in the Russia media, by the end of summer domestic airline companies will have no choice but to take apart some jets to get spare parts for other aircraft.

    Yuri Borisov, a deputy Russian prime minister in charge of civil aviation, acknowledged the problem, telling a conference earlier this summer that the existing number of foreign-made jets will last for about five years without repair parts before the fleet is depleted.

    A vice-president of Russia’s aircrew trade union told the Ridus website the advisory “does not compromise safety in any way”.

    “If the runway is long, you may as well not use brakes at all: The plane is going to stop at the end of the runway due to air brakes, reverse thrust of the engine and other things,” Oleg Prikhodko said.

    “It’s about a rational use of resources.”
