Australian Mines to set benchmark with largest sample of battery-grade cobalt and nickel sulphate ever exported from Australia

HIGHLIGHTS

• 40 kilograms of battery-grade nickel sulphate (NiSO4) and 4 kilograms of battery-grade cobalt sulphate (CoSO4) to be exported to Korean-based off-take partner, SK Innovation1

• Cobalt and nickel sulphate crystallisation achieves >98% purity for cobalt and >99% purity for nickel, exceeding SK Innovation specifications

• Ability to deliver battery-grade products confirms Australian Mines’ in-house processing expertise and industry standard flow-sheet

• Exported product may be used directly in SK Innovation’s Electric Vehicle battery manufacturing process o this is the first time Australian mined and processed cobalt sulphate and nickel sulphate may be used in the battery manufacturing process without the need for further refinement2

• Australian Mines has produced cobalt and nickel sulphates in partnership with Simulus Group without utilising a third-party commercial lab for any part of the process o another first for an Australian resource company2

Extensional drilling at Sconi Project continues to unlock growth potential for nickel and cobalt resources

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Further positive results returned from Resource extension drilling at Sconi Cobalt-Nickel-Scandium Project

• Cobalt and nickel intersections included: o 15 metres at 0.14% cobalt from 11 metres o 9 metres at 0.30% cobalt from 9 metres o 11 metres at 0.16% cobalt from 8 metres o 10 metres at 1.80% nickel from 29 metres o 20 metres at 1.13% nickel from 36 metres o 14 metres at 1.03% nickel from 21 metres

• Additional 5,000 metres drilling at Greenvale deposit1 completed, following receipt of highly-encouraging assays from recent drilling2 o testing newly-identified mineralised zones, and o further extending the Sconi’s cobalt-nickel mineralisation footprint

• Cobalt-focussed drilling at Lucknow Deposit recently completed o Assays for the remainder due to be received in the current quarter

Australian Mines Limited (“Australian Mines” or “the Company”) (Australia ASX: AUZ; USA OTCQB: AMSLF; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: MJH) is pleased to release further positive results from the Company’s Resource extension drilling program at its Sconi Cobalt-NickelScandium Project.

Australian Mines’ Sconi project, located near the township of Greenvale (approximately 225 kilometres inland from Townsville in Northern Australia), is one of the most advanced projects of its type in Australia and represents far more than just an emerging cobalt + nickel + scandium mining project.

It is planned the Sconi Project will become a fully-integrated chemical processing operation capable of delivering battery-grade cobalt sulphate and nickel sulphate to our off-take partner, Korean-based SK Innovation, for direct application at their global electric vehicle battery manufacturing plants without the need for Australian Mines’ cobalt and nickel products to undergo any further processing3. As such, the Sconi Project is being designed to capture the full “valueadd” of the Project on site4.

Given that a significant portion of the favourable cobalt-nickel-scandium bearing geology at Sconi was not fully tested by drilling, and as result, the current Mineral Resource may not reflect the true mineral endowment of the Project, Australian Mines recently embarked on a 50,000 metre Resource Expansion drilling program at Sconi.

Initial assays from this drill program, were reported to the market on 14 September 20185 with highly positive with thick zones of nickel mineralisation being confirmed beyond the existing Mineral Resource6.

The latest assay results, summarised in this report7, continue Australian Mines’ success in demonstrating that mineralisation at Sconi is much more extensive then reflected in the current Mineral Resource6 used in the impending Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) for the Project.

Whilst the majority of the assays from this Resource Expansion drilling program at Sconi are still pending, the available results from both the Greenvale deposit and the nearby Lucknow deposit point to continued exploration upside for the Project and a possible improvement in the already impressive Mineral Resource6 at Sconi.

Australian Mines Managing Director, Benjamin Bell, commented: “I am extremely encouraged by the results we are seeing from our extensional drilling across targeted areas within the Sconi Project, as the results to date are pointing towards an increase in the Sconi project’s Mineral Resource for both cobalt and nickel.

“Increasing the project’s Mineral Resource was our clearly articulated goal from the start of this program and we believe we will be in a strong position, come April 2019, to announce a revised Mineral Resource Estimate for Sconi, followed by an optimised Bankable Feasibility Study for the Project shortly thereafter.

“Any potential upgrade to the Mineral Resource Estimate for Sconi as a result of the current drilling program would have the flow-through effect of enhancing the proposed mine plan and life for the Project as well as delivering overall benefits to any future expansion contemplated.

“I look forward to providing additional updates regarding the results of the Resource expansion drilling at Sconi over the coming week and in the lead up to Christmas”

Australian Mines’ scandium oxide verified by Metalysis for Phase II development of next-generation scandium alloy

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Australian Mines’ produced high purity (in excess of 99.9%, or 3N) scandium oxide qualified by international partner, Metalysis, using its process, as a feedstock for next-generation scandium alloy

• Company is progressing to Phase II R&D in partnership with Metalysis; the high value aluminium-scandium alloy feedstock continues to present excellent launch product potential for Metalysis’ industrial plant

Australian Mines Limited (“Australian Mines” or “the Company”) (Australia ASX: AUZ; USA OTCQB: AMSLF; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: MJH) is pleased to announce progress from its research and development (R&D) project with Metalysis, the U.K.-headquartered metals and alloys technology company1. Progress is in line with the Company’s focus on commercialising scandium oxide, scheduled for production concurrent to cobalt sulphate and nickel sulphate from the Company’s Sconi Project in Queensland, Australia.

Australian Mines provided scandium oxide for qualification by Metalysis using ore from Sconi with purity in excess of 99.9% (or 3N). The oxide has met all chemical and physical requirements to be ideal for use in an aluminium-scandium feedstock to support master alloy development.

The R&D work Australian Mines is conducting in partnership with Metalysis is now moving to Phase II.

Phase II requires additional quantities of scandium oxide from Sconi. The work program involves optimising product quality, scaling up test work, and further analyses to determine the alloy’s compositional characteristics and performance. Phase II will also incorporate customer appraisal of the product and further investigate demand driven end-user opportunities in relation to 3D printing of magnets.

This high value aluminium-scandium alloy continues to pose excellent launch product potential for Metalysis’ Generation 4 industrial plant.

Ian Mellor, Managing Director of Metalysis’ Materials Discovery Centre, commented: “We are pleased by the rapid progress made during first phase R&D with Australian Mines. The provision of high quality scandium oxide from the Sconi project has enabled our teams to make a strong start and quickly complete proof-of-principle activities for the alloy feedstock addition using Metalysis’ process.

“We look forward to reporting results to come as, together, we target the development of a high value AlSc alloy in sync with Australian Mines’ production plans for Sconi, and Metalysis’ production plans for Generation 4.”

Solid-State Process for Producing Next-Generation Scandium Alloy

In June 20182, Australian Mines announced that it had entered into a research partnership with Metalysis to support a continued research and development program using their solidstate process to generate valuable metal alloy powders with the potential to produce a cost competitive, high performance aluminium-scandium alloy.

Metalysis owns an innovative solid-state process, originally invented by the University of Cambridge (UK) and commercialised by the company (see Figure 1). The R&D program to date has affirmed the view that Metalysis’ process could address challenges that have historically restricted the industrial use of scandium despite the superior strength and lightweighting characteristics that make it ideal for use in advanced manufacturing applications including in the aerospace and automotive industries.

Australian Mines continues to progress its work on commercialisation of scandium oxide in order to maximise revenue and shareholder value from the Sconi Project.

Australian Mines Managing Director, Benjamin Bell, commented: “I am delighted that we have continued to make progress in our work with Metalysis and explore the potential to unlock additional economic value from scandium oxide to be produced at Sconi.

“By being involved in full end-to-end production this represents an appealing value proposition for our investors as opposed to the more typical mining and shipping ore approach. The fact that our scandium oxide product has been verified as meeting the specifications required to produce a master alloy puts us in an extremely strong position in our negotiations with potential scandium oxide off-take partners.”
