    Stephen Bannon switching lawyers in border wall fund case

    A prominent Washington lawyer defending President Donald Trump’s former chief strategist against charges that he cheated donors to a southern border wall notified a judge Wednesday that he’s no longer the right lawyer for the job.

    Attorney William A. Burck sent a letter to the trial judge in Manhattan federal court to say that Burck and Stephen Bannon had amicably agreed that new lawyers would be better suited to Bannon’s defense strategy.

    He said Bannon is looking for new attorneys.

    Bannon faces a May 24 trial on criminal charges alleging that Bannon and at least three others unlawfully raised over $25 million for the “We Build The Wall” campaign. The group sought to fund a southern border wall.

    He has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging that thousands of investors were duped into thinking all of their donations would go toward the project, even though Bannon diverted over a million dollars, paying salary to one campaign official and personal expenses for himself.

    Bannon was arrested in August aboard a luxury yacht off the coast of Connecticut. He is free on $5 million bail.

    Burck is a former federal prosecutor who was a top lawyer for President George W. Bush. He also represented Bannon, former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and former White House counsel Don McGahn in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into interference in the 2016 presidential election.

    A special thank you goes to my warrior sister Barbara, who took on managing my legal defense fund and between her and my youngest sibling and brother, Joe, did countless interviews to help raise necessary and important funds to fight this fight. And finally, my sister Clare Eckert and her daughter (my God-Daughter and niece), Alicia Kutzer, rounded out our team. My oldest sister Clare is a tough but superb legal and business professional and Alicia is a remarkable lawyer.     Toch mooi dat zo'n Flynn dankbaar is.
    Zou die Sidney Powell in ruil voor een amnestie hebben aangeboden voor de Trump Campagne rechtzaken te doen ? Flynn noemt Powell wel verdacht vaak.
    Je zou toch menen dat de officieren van justitie die de zaak wilden laten vallen eigenlijk belangrijker waren.

    Lawmakers in the United States say they have taken a significant step closer to enacting a major anti-money laundering reform that would make it more difficult to move dirty money through U.S. firms. Late last week, Democrats in the House and Senate announced that they had included provisions targeting anonymous shell companies into a must-pass national defense spending bill. The move is significant because, unlike many pieces of legislation that languish in Congress, the omnibus bill is often approved on a bipartisan basis to continue funding national defense.

    “It is past time to put an end to the secrecy that allows drug cartels, human traffickers, arms dealers, terrorists and kleptocrats to exploit the United States’ banking system in order to carry out anti-American activities,” Mark Warner, a Democratic senator from Virginia and advocate for the reforms, said in a statement. “I know that the current holes in our financial system pose a serious threat to national security.”

    If passed, the legislation would in large part end anonymous shell companies in the United States, mandating that every company report its ultimate owner to the U.S. Treasury Department. This would allow law enforcement to quickly ascertain who owns firms involved in potential financial crimes.

    In the framework of intelligence activities underway with its operational counterparts, Europol developed reliable intelligence concerning the international drug trafficking and money laundering activities of a Brazilian organised crime network operating in several EU countries.

    The criminal syndicate had direct contact with drug cartels in Brazil and other South American source countries who were responsible for the preparation and the shipments of cocaine in maritime containers bound to major European seaports.

    The scale of cocaine importation from Brazil to Europe under their control and command is massive and over 52 tonnes of cocaine were seized by law enforcement over the course of the investigation.

    In April 2020, Europol brought together the involved countries who have since been working closely together to establish a joint strategy to bring down the whole network. The main targets were identified on either sides of the Atlantic Ocean, with the support of Operation EMMA 95/ LEMONT 26, the French and Dutch-led investigation against the Encrochat network.

    Since then, Europol has provided continuous intelligence development and analysis to support the field investigators. During the action day, a total of 8 of its officers were deployed on-the-ground in Portugal, Belgium and Brazil to assist there the national authorities, ensuring swift analysis of new data as it was being collected during the action and adjusting the strategy as required.

    Commenting on this operation, Europol’s Deputy Director Wil van Gemert said:

    "This operation highlights the complex structure and vast reach of Brazilian organised crime groups in Europe. The scale of the challenge faced today by police worldwide calls for a coordinated approach to tackle the drug trade across continents.     Dit is allemaal een probleem, maar het betekent niet dat het dode presidentschap van Trump nu op de een of andere manier weer tot leven is gekomen. En nee, de VS gaan niet op magische wijze oorlog voeren met Iran. Het is tijd om te stoppen met vallen voor die specifieke neppe Trump-kop, nadat hij er vier jaar op heeft gebluft.

    Niet lang na zijn beëdiging kon Donald Trump niet anders dan topgeheime nationale veiligheidsgeheimen uit te spreken.

    Hij plaatste een foto van zichzelf en de Japanse premier Shinzo Abe die een briefing kregen aan een Mar-a-Lago-eettafel over Noord-Koreaanse raketactiviteit. Hij gooide het op in het ovale kantoor met de Russische minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Sergey Lavrov en de Russische ambassadeur bij de VS Sergei Kislyak terwijl hij de bonen morste over gevoelige informatie over terrorismedreigingen die de Amerikaanse inlichtingengemeenschap had ontvangen van een bondgenoot.

    Hij heeft de president van de Filippijnen de locatie van twee Amerikaanse nucleaire onderzeeërs verteld. Toen Trump opschepte over de commando-inval waarbij ISIS-leider Abu Bakr al Baghdadi omkwam, onthulde hij gevoelige en geheime informatie over de operatie.

    Meest recentelijk kon hij er niets aan doen en vertelde hij aan de Washington Post-verslaggever Bob Woodward dat het Amerikaanse leger een geheim nieuw wapensysteem had ontwikkeld, waardoor ambtenaren in de militaire inlichtingendienst werden gealarmeerd.

    Voormalig CIA-directeur John Brennan, een uitgesproken Trump-criticus, zegt: `` De nieuwe regering zou er goed aan doen om onmiddellijk een evaluatie uit te voeren om te bepalen of Donald Trump toegang had moeten houden tot geheime informatie in het licht van zijn eerdere acties en zijn diepe bezorgdheid over wat hij misschien wel in de toekomst. "

    Een mogelijke redding die al deze experts naar voren brengen, is dat Trump nauwelijks enige interesse heeft getoond in de details van de nationale veiligheidsbriefings waarop hij de afgelopen vier jaar recht heeft gehad en het is onwaarschijnlijk dat hij zijn manier van doen op dit punt zal veranderen.

    Het Trump White House wil misschien dat zijn waarnemend controleur van de valuta vijf jaar blijft hangen, maar of hij dat doet, is geheel aan president Biden. Volgens de relevante wet kan Biden de controleur ontslaan zolang hij zijn redenen daarvoor naar de senaat stuurt.

    Verenigde Staten voegt meer dan een miljoen COVID-19-gevallen toe in slechts zes dagen

    Volgens de laatste gegevens van de Johns Hopkins University zijn COVID-19-infecties in minder dan een week tijd met meer dan een miljoen toegenomen. Vrijdag was het aantal gevallen in de Verenigde Staten meer dan 13 miljoen. Op zaterdag 21 november waren er 12 miljoen gevallen bekend.

    Ten minste 265.000 Amerikanen zijn gestorven aan het coronavirus, dat in maart door de bevolking begon te razen. Omdat er geen samenhangend nationaal plan was om op het virus te reageren, zoals een nationaal maskermandaat of universele lockdown, verspreidt COVID-19 zich nu exponentieel in elke afzonderlijke staat.

    Desinformatie afkomstig van het Witte Huis, met name van president Donald Trump, heeft de verwoesting verergerd, evenals misleidende berichten van Republikeinen op lokaal, staats- en nationaal niveau.

    Republikeinen in het Congres hebben ook bezwaar gemaakt tegen aanvullende stimuleringswetgeving om de economie te laten zweven, aangezien miljoenen Amerikanen werkloos blijven en veel banen, met name in de foodservice- en entertainmentindustrie, in de nabije toekomst waarschijnlijk zijn verdwenen.

    Het coronavirus verplettert ook de reeds onder druk staande Amerikaanse gezondheidszorg- en ziekenhuissystemen. Volgens het COVID Tracking Project waren er op vrijdag meer dan 90.000 ziekenhuisopnames, waarmee een recordaantal van 17 dagen werd voortgezet.

    Het aantal nieuwe besmettingen groeide alleen al op vrijdag met 195.000. Donderdag kwamen 1.319 mensen om het leven.

    Dokter Anthony Fauci, de beste specialist op het gebied van infectieziekten in het land, ziet een grimmige winter in het verschiet als basisveiligheidsmaatregelen - zoals het dragen van maskers en het vermijden van grote sociale bijeenkomsten binnenshuis - nog steeds worden ontslagen door gekozen functionarissen.

    "Als de stijging een ommekeer neemt om verder te stijgen en je hebt meer dan 100.000 infecties per dag en 1.300 doden per dag, en het aantal blijft maar stijgen", vertelde Fauci aan USA Today. "Ik zie niet dat het tijdens de kerst- en nieuwjaarsvakantie anders is dan tijdens Thanksgiving."

    Maar ondanks vijf alarmwaarschuwingen van medische experts, waaronder de Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reisden miljoenen Amerikanen tijdens de Thanksgiving-vakantie naar vrienden en familie.

    Voorspellingsmodellen voorspellen dat als de huidige trends zich voortzetten, honderdduizenden Amerikanen zullen sterven voordat Trumps eerste ambtstermijn officieel afloopt op 20 januari 2021 om 12.00 uur.
