    'Tesla en Solar City in geldnood'
    Twee van de drie bedrijven van Elon Musk verkeren in geldnood: automaker Tesla en zonnepanelenmaker Solar City. De vijftien investeerders die in juli werden benaderd, hebben zich allemaal teruggetrokken. Dat heeft ook te maken met de onduidelijkheid over de overname van Solar City door Tesla. Musk wil die in aandelen Tesla betalen, ter waarde van $2,4 mrd.
    Dit maakt de Wall Street Journal op uit documenten die de bedrijven woensdag moesten deponeren in verband met de geplande overname van Solar City. Musk heeft al eerder gezegd dat hij voor het eind van dit jaar weer een nieuwe financieringsronde nodig heeft. In oktober moet de deal met Solar City door de aandeelhouders worden goedgekeurd. Wellicht geeft dat de duidelijkheid over de verhoudingen die investeerders kan overtuigen er weer geld in te steken.
    Aflossen
    Tesla moet in het derde kwartaal $422 mln aan leningen aflossen. In het tweede kwartaal werd nog $1,7 mrd aan financiering binnengehaald en voor de bestellingen voor de nieuwe auto moet ook $1000 vooraf worden betaald. Sinds eind 2014 heeft het bedrijf echter ook $3 mrd uitgegeven. Daarom moet er voor 2017 nog een investeringsronde komen.
    Vertrouwen
    Solar City had eind juni nog maar $146 mln in kas. Eind dit jaar moet een lening van $250 mln worden afgelost. Musk, en zijn twee neven die Solar City bestieren, hebben het bedrijf 80% van een lening verstrekt van $124 mln, voor achttien maanden, tegen 6,5% rente. Volgens een Musk om een teken van vertrouwen in en aan het bedrijf te geven. Volgens een analist was dit geld echter hard nodig om het werkkapitaal in de zwarte cijfers te houden. In tien jaar heeft Solar City een omzet gerealiseerd van $1,5 mrd en heeft het $3 mrd schuld opgebouwd.
    Bestuur
    Musk begon al in februari intern over de overname te praten, maar kreeg aanvankelijk zijn bestuur niet mee. Woensdag zei hij in een interview dat de fusie tegenstrijdige belangen tussen de twee bedrijven moet wegnemen. Bovendien is de combinatie samen meer divers: accu's, zonnepanelen, auto's en 'zware' auto's.

    IFA, Berlin, Germany, 1 September 2016 TomTom (TOM2) has created the world's first scooter smartphone-connected satnav called TomTom VIO. The TomTom VIO is highly functional but makes a strong visual statement - once you've seen it on a scooter the bike looks naked without it. The circular glove-friendly touchscreen device acts as an extension to a connected smartphone, which uses the well-developed app as the brains. No more taking a phone out of the pocket while riding, finally.

    The weatherproof display unit offers turn-by-turn navigation both visually and audibly via a Bluetooth® helmet audio system. When a call comes in, the display will show a photo of who it is so the rider can take it via the headset while directions remain on the TomTom VIO display.

    TomTom's famous speed camera warning system is built-in. But following the design of the TomTom VIO even these alerts are minimal and attractive. TomTom VIO's speed display changes colour to red warning riders if they are going too fast, and then back to the original colour scheme when travelling within the limit. That means even without directly looking at the VIO the rider is acutely aware of their current speed.

    Design detailing continues inside and out on the TomTom VIO thanks to snap-on silicon covers available in six different colours – ideal for matching up with the scooter. Then, to keep consistency, even the maps can be set to the same colour using one simple touch in the app.

Not only will it speed up the commute, but gone are the days of fiddling with your mobile at the traffic lights, or wondering who’s calling as you negotiate the traffic.     The TomTom VIO is available now at selected retailers and on the TomTom website. The device ships with a black, snap-on silicon cover - six other colours are available for purchase.
