    Over de toepassing van de organoid technology door Galapagos is domweg niets te vinden behalve het persbericht. Hopelijk binnenkort in een development update.
    Behalve het persbericht van vorig jaar juli toen Galapagos een licentie nam is er ook nog een presentatie op een CF congres in Gothenborg op 12 juni 2014.
    Tijdens deze presentatie, gegeven door Katja Conrath, therapeutic area head, was er reeds aandacht voor het gebruik van de organoid technologie (slides 8 en 9).

    Het is omwille van het toepassen van deze technologie dat ik zoveel waarde hecht aan het CF programma van Galapagos. Een betrouwbaarder model om nieuwe medicatie te testen is amper denkbaar.

    Ik ben het echter niet eens met punt 5 van de verder overigens uitstekende bijdrage van Rekyus. In het persbericht staat namelijk dat de licentie genomen is om de organoid technologie te kunnen toepassen in de ontwikkeling van medicijnen tegen CF en chronische darmziekten. Er staat echter niet uitdrukkelijk bij dat het uitsluitend voor preklinisch onderzoek is.
    Op dat punt heb ik dus een andere mening. Mijns inziens heeft Galapagos de licentie genomen om ze juist in de klinische ontwikkeling te kunnen gebruiken (samen met de preklinische studies). De organoids zouden wel eens een uistekend hulpmiddel kunnen zijn om de patiënten in fase 2 en fase 3 te kunnen selecteren die in aanmerking komen voor deelname
    Aan de studie. De voorspellende waarde van deze techniek is immers bijzonder groot. Er moet geen tekening bij gemaakt worden wat het gevolg is voor de resultaten als men vooraf kan bepalen welke patiënten gebaat zijn met het medicament en welke niet.

    N.a.v. de vorige berichten ben ik even gaan lezen/zoeken.
    Als de technologie van hub4organoids.eu/ zó goed is en helpt om een goede schifting te kunnen maken in werkzaamheid van moleculen. Dan is dit een geweldig mooie overname kandidaat voor Galapagos! Lijkt mij een geweldige aanvulling op het platform.

    Ik heb in mijn bijdrage letterlijk geciteerd uit het Galapagos persbericht van 15 juli 2015. Daar wordt uitsluitend gesproken over 'pre-klinisch'. Hierbij het originele bericht als bijlage.

    De strekking is van mijn bijdrage is nu net dat ik ervan overtuigd ben dat men ook het klinische traject betrekt in de samenwerking en dat beide partijen daarvan zouden kunnen profiteren: organoïden met uiteindelijk doel routinematig gebruik in de klinische praktijk van alledag, als ex-vivo diagnosticum. Dat zou kunnen uitmonden in een octrooi met als houder HUB Foundation én Galapagos. Licht speculatief, maar toch....

    Wonderlijke misser! Dientengevolge begrijp ik uw reactie.
    Desalniettemin zegt de logica dat het adjectief per ongeluk is weggelaten (in de Nederlandse versie) en niet abusievelijk toegevoegd (in de Engelse versie). De eerste versie van het bericht is meer dan waarschijnlijk opgesteld in het Engels (interne voertaal) door de communicatieafdeling.

Organoids have proven to be valuable disease models for the high-throughput screening and validation of innovative medicines, bypassing limitations associated with cell-line- and xenograft- based preclinical drug studies."

    This technology and databank of organoids, cell cultures etc can be licenced/leased and used by any academic hospital/university or researchers of pharmaceutical companies. I rather not see only Galapagos use this technology since I believe in open access research which patients would benefit the most from.

    I work as a student in a acadamic hospital and they are conducting research to validate these organoids with the purpose of personalized CF treatments or testing of new medications. This is all in a sort of fundamental/preclinical stage but really speaks out to your imagination and has a lot of great potential for all sorts of uses.

    I totally agree with you. I was jut pointing out that it is now being embraced by more companies and not just Galapagos.
    This organoid technology seems to be the future in the research environment.

    Let us hope it will produce some great results.

    Wat een langdradig verhaal zeg, en dat allemaal obv het feit dat ze Galapagos niet hebben overgenomen. Ze gaan voorbij aan het feit dat Galapagos niet wilde worden overgenomen en geen 1 partij de kans daar voor had (want in de tussentijd kon Galapagos gewoon een licentie tekenen met een ander).     I think we should view this as related to the CF research. According to Wikipedia (sorry, no more trustworthy source):

    Diabetetes is een indicatie hieromtrent, dus wat Aston aangaf lijkt mij op korte termijn (1 jaar)
    opvolging te krijgen binnen de pipeline van Galapagos.

    Do I read this correctly that apart from CF this organoid technology will or could be used to test on/or continue to be tested on diabetes in general and not just in relation to CF?
