Milennium Lithium zal waarschijnlijk nooit lithium produceren.
Rio Tinto Jadar lithium mine likely to start in 2023 Published on Thu, 27 Jul 2017 Financial Review reported that Rio Tinto massive Jadar lithium-borate project could start supplying the growing lithium market in 2023, as it inked a memorandum of understanding with the Serbian government hoped to "speed up" the project's approvals process. The large deposit of jadarite, a new mineral unique to Serbia that contains lithium, was discovered by Rio Tinto in 2004 when it was exploring for borates. It has since spent about USD 90 million slowly advancing the Jadar project towards a final investment decision, expected in 2020 with construction slated to commence the same year. Under the timeline Rio mapped out for the first time overnight Monday, the project would commence operations in 2023, "assuming that feasibility studies confirm viability and all necessary approvals are obtained". The timing would see production from Jadar enter the market after a wave of new supply from Australian lithium miners. But analysts generally forecast demand for lithium-ion batteries to meet or exceed supply early next decade due to the growth of the electric vehicles market and increased adoption of energy storage. UBS analysts said in June high spot prices for lithium chemicals would ease over the next few years but prices of USD 10,000 to USD 12,000 a tonne would be needed from early next decade to incentivise new investment to meet demand. A pre feasibility study on Jadar is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Jadar sits behind other projects in Rio's development que, including the Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold project in Mongolio and the South Flank iron ore project in Western Australia, but it has been touted by the miner as an attractive development option due to its scale and anticipated position in the first quartile of the operating cost curve. Jadar is also being keenly pursued by the Serbian government. Under the memorandum of understanding signed on Monday, Rio and the government will form joint working groups to progress the project through the study and permitting phases. Rio Tinto has said Jadar could supply at least 10 per cent of global lithium demand. The project has a 136-million-tonne resource grading 1.86 per cent lithium oxide, slightly larger but lower grade than the largest operating hard rock lithium mine, the Greenbushes operation in Western Australia, according to UBS. Deutsche Bank and UBS analysts had forecast Jadar would start production in 2023, with UBS noting the "massive" project made Serbia a "major" country to keep an eye on as it entered the lithium market. OROCOBRE LTD NPV (OTCMKTS:OROCF) Breaks Higher on Strong Data By Jermaine Farmer - September 1, 2017 OROCOBRE LTD NPV (OTCMKTS:OROCF) is a very interesting player in the commodities space. OROCF just popped on a strong breakout move that constituted a true breakout above the key, major moving averages (the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day) all at once, and on strong volume. The catalyst was quite clear: OROCF just announced its financial results, highlighted by a profit of US$19.4 million impacted by impairment of Borax Argentina of US$8.1 million, and sale of assets of US$14.8 million. That compares with a prior year fiscal loss of $22M. OROCF Managing Director and CEO, Richard Seville said: “In 2017, Orocobre came to the fore as a mainstream, profitable, low-cost producer of lithium carbonate. We continued to develop and expand our customer base as we produced 11,682 tonnes of lithium carbonate (~5-6% of global supply) from one of the lowest cost bases in our industry.” With such excitement emerging about the lithium market once again this year, the company’s positioning and newfound success stoked traders into action this week, driving shares of the stock higher. OROCOBRE LTD NPV (OTCMKTS:OROCF) trumpets itself as a company building a substantial Argentinian-based industrial minerals company through the construction and operation of its portfolio of lithium, potash and boron projects and facilities. OROCF explores for and develops lithium, potash, and salar mineral properties primarily in Argentina. Its flagship project is the Salar de Olaroz lithium project that covers 63,000 hectares of tenements located in the northwest province of Jujuy. The company also produces boron minerals and refined chemicals. Orocobre Limited is headquartered in Milton, Australia. According to company materials, “Orocobre Limited (Orocobre) is a dynamic global lithium carbonate supplier and an established producer of boron. Orocobre is dual-listed on the Australia and Toronto Stock Exchanges (ORE.AX), (ORL.TO). Orocobre’s operations include its Olaroz Lithium Facility in Northern Argentina, Borax Argentina, an established Argentine boron minerals and refined chemicals producer and a 35% interest in Advantage Lithium.”
In early afternoon trade the Orocobre Limited (ASX: ORE) share price is the biggest mover on the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO). At the time of writing the lithium miner’s shares are up over 10% to $3.73. Why have its shares rocketed higher? This morning Orocobre reported a full-year net profit after tax of US$19.4 million. This included an US$8.1 million impairment of its Borax Argentina business and also a gain on the sales of assets of US$14.8 million. Despite the asset sale boosting its result, I believe it was still an impressive turnaround from the US$22 million loss it made in FY 2016. During FY 2017 the company produced 11,862 tonnes of lithium carbonate and sold 12,296 tonnes at an average price received of US$9,763 per tonne. This led to total sales revenue of US$120 million. Pleasingly, the miner is one of the lowest cost producers in the world and currently enjoys a gross operating margin of 62% with lithium production costs at US$3,710 per tonne. Should costs continue to remain this low and lithium demand keep prices high, then Orocobre could be in a great position to profit in FY 2018. Especially with management targeting production of 14,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate this year. That will be an 18% increase in production on FY 2017. Though it is worth remembering that Orocobre was forced to downgrade its production guidance multiple times in FY 2017, so there’s no guarantee that it will deliver on its plans. Should you invest? While my preference in the industry remains Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX: GXY), closely followed by Kidman Resources Ltd (ASX: KDR), I do believe that if lithium demand forecasts are accurate then all three will prove to be great investments. However, as with all resources shares, an investment in these companies is high risk and should be done with caution.

Chile sees no obstacle to Albemarle request to hike lithium output cap Reuters | 2 days ago | 433 | 2 Chile’s Codelco sets up lithium subsidiary Chile holds half of the world’s most “economically extractable” reserves of lithium. Chile sees no obstacles to approving Albemarle Corp’s request for an increase in its annual lithium production limit, given the high prices for the metal used in electric car batteries, a government official told Reuters on Thursday. “There’s no reason to object to this request,” said Eduardo Bitran, head of the South American country’s CORFO state development agency. “Given the contract we have, this means royalties, more fiscal resources, more investment.” Albemarle asked CORFO on Sept. 15 to raise its quota to 125,000 tonnes per year from 80,000 tonnes currently, citing technological advancements that allowed it to obtain more of the mineral without needing to extract more brine out of the Atacama salt flat in northern Chile. Albemarle shares were up 1 percent at $131.33 in morning New York Stock Exchange trading. Bitran said he hoped CORFO’s board would consider the request in November and approve the change this year. Albemarle said it could invest $1 billion in Chile over the next five years if the plan is approved. The Atacama salt flat is part of the so-called “lithium triangle” in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, a region containing a large portion of the world’s lithium reserves. Investment and output have increased in recent years as demand for electric vehicles surges. (By Felipe Iturrieta. Writing by Luc Cohen; Editing by Bernadette Baum and Lisa Von Ahn)
Chinese carmaker to take $28m stake in Australian lithium company Great Wall will be involved in what seems to be the first direct investment in a lithium supplier by an automaker. The Chinese company announced that it will take a $28 million stake in Pilbara Minerals. The move is part of an off-take tie-up aimed at supporting the proposed expansion of the lithium and tantalum project the Australian miner owns at Pilgangoora, 120km east of Port Hedland. Under this agreement, Great Wall will take between 75,000 tonnes and 150,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate from Pilbara, subject to the $100 million-plus stage 2 development of the project getting the go-ahead. Great Wall's investment replaces a $17.75 million deal with General Lithium that, according to Pilbara, could not be sealed due to “regulatory constraints” in China.www.mining.com/chinese-carmaker-take-...
