SunHydrogen’s CEO Tim Young Visits New South Korea Facility for Scale-Up of Company’s Green Hydrogen Technology

CORALVILLE, IA – November 28, 2023 – SunHydrogen, Inc. (OTCQB: HYSR), the developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen using sunlight and water, today announced that the Company’s industrial partner, COTEC, has completed setup of a new laboratory space solely for the development of SunHydrogen’s manufacturing process.

SunHydrogen’s CEO Tim Young recently made a strategic visit to COTEC’s Changwon facility to view firsthand the progress at the newly-established laboratory dedicated to SunHydrogen’s technology. COTEC is poised to begin replicating SunHydrogen’s nanoparticle-based technology employing advanced industrial electroplating processes in this state-of-the-art facility. Meticulously set up by COTEC’s team, the laboratory is fully equipped with the necessary equipment, chemicals, and characterization techniques to accelerate SunHydrogen’s manufacturing process.

Within one of SunHydrogen’s hydrogen generators, billions of patented Photoelectrosynthetically Active Heterostructure (PAH) nanoparticles per square centimeter split apart water to generate hydrogen and oxygen. These PAH nanoparticles are composed of multiple layers of solar cells. The high-voltage, high-light absorbing properties of the solar cells enable the Company to make them ultrathin and with significantly fewer materials, lowering costs and raising efficiency. Together, SunHydrogen and COTEC will explore the development and implementation of electroplating solutions to translate SunHydrogen’s existing PAH architecture and process to manufacturing scale while maintaining low cost and high efficiency.

The Company expects its initial exploration with COTEC to be completed by December 31, 2023. Following this phase, SunHydrogen’s next step is to produce 1m² hydrogen panels to be utilized in multiple pilot projects showcasing the world’s first-ever nanoparticle-based green hydrogen production at commercial scale.

COTEC is a leader in industrial electroplating and electrochemical processes and is well-positioned to collaborate with SunHydrogen in this critical aspect of the Company’s scale-up process. COTEC possesses extensive plating expertise across the aerospace, automotive, defense and nuclear industries, and has worked with high-level clients such as Boeing, Hanwha, Airbus and more.

SunHydrogen Enters Consulting Agreement With 3 of Japan’s Most Esteemed Green Hydrogen Production Experts
CORALVILLE, IA – December 18, 2023 – SunHydrogen, Inc. (OTCQB: HYSR), the developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen using sunlight and water, today announced that the Company has entered into a consulting agreement with three of Japan’s top experts in the field of photocatalytic green hydrogen production.

Beginning in December 2023, SunHydrogen is set to receive specialized guidance from Prof. Kazunari Domen, Dr. Hiroshi Nishiyama and Dr. Taro Yamada of the University of Tokyo on the design and optimization of SunHydrogen's panel technology, including the balance of systems, based on their experience. Their input will be crucial in enhancing process efficiency and reducing the overall levelized cost of hydrogen production for pilot scale demonstrations – Prof. Domen alone brings a highly decorated career of over 90,000 citations and over 800 publications.

Prof. Domen, Dr. Nishiyama and Dr. Yamada are all key participants in Japan’s ARPChem project, a collaborative research initiative backed by Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) that demonstrated the feasibility of producing solar hydrogen through photocatalytic water splitting on an area scale of 100m² and a time scale of one year.

Moving forward, NEDO expects to spend 30 billion yen ($260 million) in support of ARPChem and the University of Tokyo as they work together to conduct a field test featuring photocatalytic green hydrogen panels.

"We are thrilled to embark on this collaboration with Prof. Domen, Dr. Nishiyama and Dr. Yamada, renowned leaders in photocatalytic green hydrogen production," said SunHydrogen’s Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Syed Mubeen. "Their vast experience and groundbreaking work in this field are invaluable assets for our team. We are looking forward to harnessing their insights on panel design and process scale-up to accelerate our pilot demonstrations."

SunHydrogen Joins Texas Hydrogen Alliance to Support the Growth of the Hydrogen Economy
CORALVILLE, IA – September 24, 2024 – SunHydrogen, Inc. (OTCQB: HYSR), the developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen using sunlight and water, today announced that it has joined the Texas Hydrogen Alliance, a coalition of industry leaders dedicated to advancing the hydrogen economy in Texas.

Founded in 2021, the Texas Hydrogen Alliance is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade organization that brings together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and innovators to advocate for policies that expedite hydrogen adoption, promote low-carbon hydrogen production, and develop robust infrastructure for storage and distribution. The Alliance seeks not only to strengthen Texas' position as the energy capital of the world, but also to create new opportunities for economic growth and innovation in the hydrogen sector.

“We believe our business plan is very well-aligned with current plans to expand the hydrogen economy in Texas, including the creation of a hydrogen trucking corridor throughout the state,” said SunHydrogen’s CEO Tim Young.

The innovative solar hydrogen panels SunHydrogen is developing use abundant and low-cost materials, require no external power other than sunlight, and are designed with scalability in mind. The Company intends to install its green hydrogen panel arrays at and near roadside refueling sites along major trucking routes with abundant land and sun, lowering the high costs and hydrogen losses associated with typical long-distance transport.

In January 2024, Texas received a $70 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration supporting the creation of a hydrogen trucking corridor for medium and heavy-duty trucks. The funding will go toward the construction of up to five stations across Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio, with the eventual goal of building a corridor between Texas and Southern California.

Additionally, Texas is the site of the HyVelocity Hydrogen Hub, one of seven regional clean hydrogen hubs selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to receive up to $1.2 billion in funding. HyVelocity Hub participants Air Liquide, Chevron, ExxonMobil and Sempra Infrastructure are also part of the Texas Hydrogen Alliance.

“Our membership in the Alliance brings tremendous opportunity to make inroads into the Texas hydrogen landscape and beyond,” Mr. Young said. “SunHydrogen greatly looks forward to engaging with prestigious industry leaders and fellow innovators.”
