    Mr Sanak Mishra leaves ArcelorMittal India - Report

    PTI reported that ArcelorMittal is facing an exodus of senior management at its India office, with about 20 top executives, including its CEO for Greenfield Projects Mr Sanak Mishra, quitting in frustrations of having little or no work as company's projects here have failed to take off so far.

    Mr Sanak Mishra,68, VP of ArcelorMittal and CEO for Greenfield Projects in India was spearheading the Odisha project and had joined the company in 2006 in its erstwhile avatar of Mittal Steel, after spending 30 years with SAIL.

    People in the know of development said that July 31 was Mishra's last working day in ArcelorMittal.

    Mr Mishra is believed to be joining Essar Steel in the coming days

    Multiple talks with company's present and former executives revealed that after Odisha exit, they are not expecting any big progress on the remaining two projects due to the prevailing issues, be it regulatory or problems in acquiring land and securing captive iron ore mine. Besides, slump in global steel demand in last few years has seriously hampered ArcelorMittal's ability to proceed with mega investments and company's present focus is on reducing debt.

    ArcelorMittal's Head of Corporate Responsibility Mr Sudhir Sinha, Head of Corporate Communications Ms Mandakini Sud and Head HR had left the company some months ago. Its GM mines in Jharkhand Mr SP Prayaga was deputed to Liberia in the same capacity some time back, while the team, working for Odisha project, is now disbanded. Its entire Corporate Communications team had quit by December last year.

    Sources also said that ArcelorMittal has surrendered a major portion of the office space at its corporate office in the national capital as only about one-third of its original employee strength in Delhi remains.

    ArcelorMittal to restart coke ovens in Spain by November

    ArcelorMittal intends to restart coke oven batteries 7 & 8 in Avilés, Northern Spain by mid November, following their hot shutdown in December 2011, due to the fall in steel demand in Spain and Europe.

    In addition, a ArcelorMittal Flat Carbon Europe is to invest EUR 17.2 million in several improvement projects at the Avilés site.

    The main improvements resulting from these investments are related to product quality, internal logistics and customer service. The investments include a new tinplate inspection line, an upgrade of the roll shop, the revamping of HR coil yard #15, the revamping of the electrical system of galvanising line #2 and several mechanical improvements in the pickling line.

    German Steel sector lowers 2013 output forecast

    Germany, Europe's biggest crude steel maker, is set to produce less this year than in 2012 amid a struggling world market, its steel federation announced on Friday, lowering its forecast.

    The WVS federation said that steel production is expected in all probability to fall 1% in 2013 from last year, to 42.2 million tonne.

    That figure is slightly below its earlier forecast of 43 million tonne announced at the start of the year.

    It said that steel production in Germany, which is also the seventh biggest producer of crude steel in the world, saw a 5.4% drop in July compared to 2012, its 6th fall in a row.

    The federation added that the latest forecast is based on the steel market stabilizing in the second half of the year.

    ThyssenKrupp considers share sale but not imminent -Report

    Financial sources said that ThyssenKrupp has begun sounding out investors on a capital increase planned for the autumn, but the German steelmaker added it would have to reach a deal to sell its operations in the Americas before making any decision.

    ThyssenKrupp, which is due to report Q3 results on Tuesday, was poised to sell up to EUR 1 billion in new shares. It cited company sources and political sources in the Ruhr region.

    The newspaper said the sale would take place in September at the very latest, possibly even in August.

    A spokesman for ThyssenKrupp said, however, that any decision to bolster its balance sheet would be taken only after the company clinches a sale of Steel Americas, its troubled steel operations in Brazil and the US state of Alabama.

    Several financial sources added that enticing investors to buy into a capital hike before the sale of that business made no sense.

    One of the sources said that "A capital hike before the sale of the steel operations is unlikely. That would mean a very deep discount."

    Currently, ThyssenKrupp is in advanced talks with a preferred bidder, who the sources identify as Brazilian steelmaker CSN. It said in May it expected to reach an agreement promptly.

    Tata boekte afgelopen kwartaal een nettowinst van omgerekend 140 miljoen euro, tegen 73 miljoen euro een jaar eerder. Volgens het bedrijf was de winst te danken aan robuuste prestaties van de Indiase activiteiten en verbeteringen in Europa. Daarnaast werd de winst gestuwd door een belastingmeevaller.

    De totale staalproductie van Tata steeg vorig kwartaal tot 6,1 miljoen ton, tegen 5,7 miljoen ton een jaar eerder. In Europa zakte de productie licht, tot 3,1 miljoen ton. Het bedrijfsresultaat in Europa verbeterde met bijna een kwart tot omgerekend 95 miljoen euro.

    Hans: Is het weer niet eens tijd dit nieuwsdraadje te vernieuwen?
    De eerste had 466 posts met meer dan 45.000 views

    M.a.w. het wordt zeer goed gelezen maar om het overzichtelijk te houden zou een nieuw draadje misschien op zijn plaats zijn.

    Europese activiteiten

    Volgens de directeur van de Europese activiteiten is de vraag naar staal in Europa nog altijd beperkt. Hij wees echter ook op economische lichtpuntjes in diverse landen en gaf aan dat Tata klaarstaat om van het herstel te profiteren, zodra het zich echt aandient.

    De omzet van Tata was vorig kwartaal met 4 miljard euro 3 procent lager dan een jaar eerder.
