(NASDAQ: BclI), een toonaangevende ontwikkelaar van volwassen stamcellen therapeutica voor neurodegeneratieve ziekten, aangekondigd dat het zijn cryopreservatie proces is gevalideerd voor NurOwn® in voorbereiding op de komende fase 3 klinische studie bij Amyotrofische Lateraal sclerose (ALS).

    Samenvatting
    Pijn is een grotendeels verwaarloosd symptoom bij patiënten met Amyotrofische Laterale Sclerose (ALS), hoewel er melding van wordt gemaakt door de meeste van deze patiënten. Het treedt op in alle stadia van de ziekte en kan worden gezien als een initieel symptoom voorafgaand aan motorische dysfunctie. Pijn is gecorreleerd met een verslechtering van de levenskwaliteit van patiënten en met verhoogde prevalentie van depressie. In de latere stadia van ALS, kan de pijn voldoende ernstig zijn om een toename van het gebruik van kalmerende en pijnstillende medicijnen te rechtvaardigen, en is één van de gebeurtenissen die de verslechtering van de klinische en dood voorspellen. De exacte locatie van pijn hangt af van het type van de pijn of van het onderliggende mechanisme (bijvoorbeeld pijnlijke krampen, nociceptieve pijn of neuropatische pijn). Gezien de multifactoriële aard van pijn bij patiënten met ALS, werden verschillende behandelingen gesuggereerd, variërend van niet-steroïdale anti-inflammatoire geneesmiddelen, middelen voor neuropathische pijn, opioïden en cannabinoïden, gaande tot fysiotherapie strategieën en preventieve medische hulpmiddelen. Verdere kennis van de pathofysiologie is een cruciaal criterium bij de beoordeling van klinische proeven met betrekking tot therapeutische strategieën gericht op specifieke mechanismen en studies van geïndividualiseerde therapieën.

    HACKENSACK, N.J. and PETACH TIKVAH, Israel, March 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: BCLI), a leading developer of adult stem cell technologies for neurodegenerative diseases, announced today that is has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Medical Research, Infrastructure, and Health Services Fund of the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) to explore the possibility of making NurOwn® available to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients under the provisions of  Hospital Exemption regulation.  The MOU also covers the participation of Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in the planned Phase 3 trial that will investigate NurOwn in ALS.    
    The MOU sets forth the basic terms under which Brainstorm and Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center would work together to submit an application to the Israeli Ministry of Health that will allow patient access to NurOwn and is subject to a definitive agreement.  The agreement is expected to be formalized in the first half of 2017.

(NASDAQ: BclI), een toonaangevende ontwikkelaar van volwassen stamcellen technologieën voor neurodegeneratieve ziekten, heeft vandaag aangekondigd dat heeft een Memorandum of is ondertekend Understanding (MOU) met The Medical Research, infrastructuur, en Health Services Fund van de Tel Aviv Sourasky medisch Centrum (Ichilov Ziekenhuis) naar de mogelijkheid van het maken van NurOwn® beschikbaar voor Amyotrofische Lateraal sclerose (ALS) patiënten onder de bepalingen van het Ziekenhuis Vrijstelling Verordening verkennen . Het MOU heeft ook betrekking op de deelname van Tel Aviv Sourasky Medisch Centrum in de geplande fase 3 trial dat NurOwn zal onderzoeken in ALS.

Kern, MD, MHSc to the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, effective March 6, 2017. He joins BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics from Biogen, where he is currently Senior Vice President and Head of Worldwide Medical. His previous industry appointments include Head of Neuroscience Medical Unit at Novartis and Global Medical Director of Personalized Genetic Health at Genzyme Corporation.

    Dr. Kern is an influential leader, consensus builder, and strategic advisor with expertise translating science into global solutions for patient care. He was most recently Senior Vice President and Head of Worldwide Medical at Biogen, where he was a powerful contributor to Biogen's reputation as a world leader in biopharmaceutical innovation. He helped define the company's therapeutic area and medical/scientific strategies for Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, Parkinson's, neuro-degeneration, and hemophilia. 
    From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Kern was Vice President and Head of Neuroscience Medical Unit at Novartis, where he developed and directed strategy, budget, and advanced medical-commercial governance model for neuroscience. His team executed the medical and strategic plan for Gilenya®, currently administered to more than 150,000 patients worldwide.  
    From 2006 to 2011, Dr. Kern was Global Medical Director of Personalized Genetic Health at Genzyme Corporation (now Sanofi Genzyme) where he championed global medical affairs and medical and scientific activities for Fabry disease life cycle management. From 2003 to 2006, he was University Neurology Program Director at the University of Toronto, where he developed the curriculum for post-graduate education in neurology and neurology bioethics, defined and evaluated training requirements for students and faculty, and directed all operations of neurology post-graduate academic programs. 
    Previously, he was a Neurologist Consultant at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he played a central role in identifying and publishing the first scientific description of central nervous system complications from the West Nile Virus epidemic in 2003. From 1988 to 2001, he was Director, EMG, EEG, and Evoked Potential Laboratory at The Credit Valley Hospital, where he served on the Medicine Executive Committee and facilitated principal-investigator clinical trials for headache, epilepsy, and stroke. 
    Dr. Kern studied in the undergraduate Neurophysiology program at McGill University, received a Doctor of Medicine from Queen's University, completed post-graduate studies in neurology and neurophysiology at McGill University and a Master of Health Sciences (MHSc in Health Administration) from the University of Toronto.
