Hans
Zacht of hard? Straffen of belonen? Belonen motiveert in positieve zin.

Kvoel me net een daytrader.NBWO schreef:

"www.tijd.be/nieuws/artikel.asp?Id=343... LONDON - European semiconductor stocks, including Infineon, got a big boost Wednesday, as rising memory chip prices fueled hopes of stronger demand from markets like Asia. But not all analysts think the recovery will last. The spot price of DRAM DDR2 memory chips, which form the basic building-block of computers, printers and other devices, lifted 1.1% on average, to 96 cents, on Wednesday. Memory chip prices have had a terrible year, tumbling from $6.20 to 90 cents after a glut in inventories, but a seasonal pick-up in demand made investors more bullish about technology. Shares in Infineon (nyse: IFX - news - people ) jumped 57 eurocents (84 cents), or 7.1%, to 8.65 euros ($12.70), during afternoon trading in Frankfurt. Franco-Italian chip-maker STMicroelectronics (nyse: STM - news - people ) rose 2.1%, to 10.52 euros ($15.45), and the positive sentiment helped push up the Dow Jones Euro Stoxx technology index up 0.9% to 398.18 points. ABN Amro analyst Didier Scemama upgraded Infineon to "buy" from "hold" on Wednesday, telling clients that he expected the spot price of 512Mb DRAM chips to rise to $1.30 by September 2008 from its current 90-cent level. He said that memory prices had bottomed out, and that the losses at chip manufacturers would constrain supply. "Assuming that personal computer demand does not slow down materially next year, it is possible that DRAM pricing could recover even more strongly," said Scemama. This could be good news for Germany's Infineon, which still retains a 77.5% stake in its loss-making memory business Qimonda (nyse: QI - news - people ). The chip-maker hopes to reduce this stake to below 50% by 2009, and might have an easier time selling shares if investors have faith in a turnaround. (See "Infineon's Loss, Investors' Gain") But according to Oppenheim Research analyst Juergen Wagner, DRAM prices would have to more than double for Infineon to have a better shot at cutting Qimonda loose. He told Forbes.com that talk of a turnaround was too optimistic, as the current gain in chip prices was largely due to an up-tick in demand from China ahead of the New Year. "There is no real sign that we now see a significant cut-back in DRAM output," said Wagner. "However, what is true is that companies are reducing their capital spending for 2008. Sooner or later, there will be at least a stabilization, but the industry is still deeply in the red." www.forbes.com/2007/12/05/infineon-me... Infineon Rises After Upgrade to 'Buy' Wednesday December 5, 11:37 am ET Infineon Shares Rise As ABN Amro Upgrades Stock to 'Buy' on Expected Chip Pricing Improvement NEW YORK (AP) -- American Depositary shares of Germany-based semiconductor maker Infineon Technologies AG rose more than 7 percent Wednesday morning after ABN Amro upgraded the stock on improved outlook in the memory chip market. In a note to investors, ABN analysts updated the stock to "Buy" from "Hold," saying Infineon shares are likely to outperform because of better pricing for memory chips. ABN said chip prices could recover in the coming weeks. They added that assuming personal computer demand does not slow down next year, the it possible that pricing for Infineon's most important product lines could recover even more strongly. Infineon had been hit by an industrywide overproduction of memory chips. ABN also said that Infineon is gaining market share in wireless chips. Infineon shares rose 92 cents or 7.8 percent to $12.78 in morning trading. Shares have traded between $11.19 and $18.74 in the last year.biz.yahoo.com/ap/071205/infineon_move... Sector Snap: Semiconductors Up Wednesday December 5, 12:57 pm ET Semiconductor Stocks Rise With Broader Market As Analysts Upgrade Intel, Infineon; Micron Up NEW YORK (AP) -- Semiconductor shares advanced Wednesday on a broader market upswing and analyst upgrades of market leader Intel Corp. and German chip maker Infineon Technologies AG. The Dow Jones industrial average rose nearly 200 points in midday trading Wednesday after the Federal Reserve met on Tuesday to consider another interest rate cut. Also lending investors confidence was a report by payroll processor Automatic Data Processing Inc. suggesting that employment rose in November. ADVERTISEMENT The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 12.07 points, or 2.9 percent, to 423.73. Intel shares added $1, or 3.8 percent, to $27.31 after Thomas Weisel Partners analyst Kevin Cassidy upgraded the company to "Overweight" from "Market Weight." The stock was within striking distance of a 52-week high of $27.54 set nearly a month ago. Cassidy said 2008 personal computer demand could exceed expectations, primarily because of a rise in demand in emerging markets. He said he expected the highest growth sector could be laptop computers, a key part of Intel's market. Also, JMP Securities analyst Krishna Shankar said in a note to investors that there was "ongoing vigor" in the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China. He said his favorite companies going into 2008 include Texas Instruments Inc., which makes analog chips that power audio, telecommunications and other products. Its shares rose 75 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $32.45. They have traded between $28.24 and $39.63 over the past year. Also advancing were American Depositary shares of Infineon Technologies AG, after financial firm ABN Amro upgraded them to "Buy" from "Hold" on an outlook for improvement in the memory chip market. The stock rose 95 cents, or 8 percent, to $12.81. It has traded in a 52-week range of $11.19 and $18.74. Shares in chip maker Micron Technology Inc. rose sharply on speculation that it may sell part of its business to electronics maker Samsung Electronics Co. A South Korean newspaper said that Samsung was considering an acquisition of Micron's image sensor chip business. Image sensor chips are used in digital cameras and cell phones with photo capability. Micron shares rose 57 cents, or 6.6 percent, to $9.17. They have traded between $7.82 and $15.05 in the last year.biz.yahoo.com/ap/071205/semiconductor...
