    Ford Thinks Apple or Google Could Help Car Makers, But Isn't Sure How

    ........Both Apple and Google offer infotainment systems for cars, CarPlay and Android Auto, respectively, but it appears their ambitions go much further than controlling the dashboard.

    Apple has been hiring auto industry veterans, including those with battery and operations experience. The most recent hire was Doug Betts from Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) , where Betts was responsible for global quality control.

    Despite having not commented publicly about its plans to enter the vehicle market,
    Apple is said to work on entering the electric vehicle market under Project Titan, a secret project to examine if the company should enter the vehicle space. The company has hired hundreds of engineers, including some of those from Tesla. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly stated that Tesla has hired Apple employees as well, as the war for engineering talent in Silicon Valley.....

    TomTom in South Africa is pleased to be sponsoring the winning team, Gift Kelehe, 2015 Comrades Marathon winner, and his coach, John Hamlet.

    "At TomTom we make products to help people achieve more and we are extremely proud of Gift's achievement" says TomTom South Africa's Marketing Manager, Carey Dodd.

    Hamlet has been a winning coach and trainer for the past 25 years and during his career has personally coached a variety of athletes who went on to win 45 Comrades Gold medals. He has also been a TomTom Ambassador for a number of years and his athletes including Kelehe have been training with TomTom Cardio GPS Watches. Hamlet believes that the data collected from the TomTom Runner Cardio Kelehe wore for the duration of the 2015 Comrades Marathon, will provide valuable performance insights for his team.

    Kelehe ran the near 90 km race in 5 hours and 38 minutes; and burnt over 7,000 calories to clinch his win. Maintaining an incredible average pace of 3 minutes and 49 seconds per km, Kelehe's performance overall was smart and steady. The data collected revealed Kelehe's performance at specific locations along the race route, and how the changing topography not only affected his heart rate, but pace and speed as well. "It was a vital part of our running strategy that Gift kept at a steady pace and heart rate, to ensure that he did not peak too early and would be able to have something left in the bag for the finish," Hamlet adds.

    According to Dodd, "To be a small part of such a phenomenal success is a privilege and we will continue to support the team on the road, all the way to future Comrades victory!"

    TomTom opens service in Kuwait

    As Automotive News points out, TomTom Traffic includes congestion forecasting, which indicates whether a jam is growing or dispersing and which estimates how long a delay will last.

    The website also quotes Ralf-Peter Schäfer, head of Traffic at TomTom: “Traffic congestion is an issue for many countries around the world, including Kuwait. The launch of TomTom Traffic gives drivers, the automotive industry and governments a concrete way to tackle traffic congestion in their market. Our aim is to help drivers get there faster and support governments to better manage traffic flow.”
    Morning peak travel times on the routes from Ring Road No. 5 into the center of Kuwait City are double, on average, due to traffic congestion, according to TomTom Traffic data.

    De uit Hilversum afkomstige Perry Mulder (30) is de winnaar van The Voice Of TomTom. In deze competitie ging TomTom op zoek naar de nieuwe stem voor de bekende navigatiesystemen. De jury besloot dat de stem van Mulder de origineelste, grappigste en opvallendste was van de ruim tweehonderd inzendingen.
