Quinvaxem melkkoe voor Crucell
Volgen

Crucell and Gene Medicine Japan Initiate Manufacturing Partnership for Asia Leiden, The Netherlands / Kobe, Japan, October 14, 2003 - Dutch biotechnology company Crucell N.V. (Euronext, NASDAQ: CRXL) and Japan-based Gene Medicine Japan, Inc. (GMJ) today announced that they have entered into a license agreement for Crucell's proprietary PER.C6(TM) production technology. GMJ will use Crucell's PER.C6(TM) technology to provide manufacturing services for companies, universities, and other institutions researching adenovirus-based recombinant vaccines and gene medicine products in Japan and the rest of Asia. The PER.C6(TM) technology is a human cell line used for the production of biopharmaceutical products including vaccines and antibodies for some of the most virulent diseases. Crucell has licensed its PER.C6(TM) production technology to companies in Europe and North America, but until now the technology has not been widely available in Asia. The Crucell-GMJ agreement is expected to help boost research activity in Japan and the rest of Asia. GMJ's production facility is scheduled to commence operations on Kobe Port Island in June 2004. "Licensing our PER.C6(TM) technology is key to our business strategy, and we are experiencing growing demand for this safe, cost-effective, scalable manufacturing technology from the biopharmaceutical industry," commented Crucell's President and CEO, Dr Dinko Valerio. "Crucell's goal in Asia, as it is in the US and Europe, is to make PER.C6(TM) technology the industry standard for manufacturing adenovirus-based vaccines and gene medicine products. The safety documentation of the PER.C6(TM) cell line is proving a great advantage as the use of our technology gathers momentum." "Clinical research on new gene medicine products is bound to grow tremendously in Japan. We expect demand for GMP-grade vectors to increase in tandem with this, and are pleased to have secured the rights to this advanced manufacturing technology," said Dr. Akinobu Gotoh, Vice President of GMJ. Under the terms of the agreement, Crucell will receive upfront and annual payments, as well as double-digit royalties on contract manufacturing sales by GMJ. Further financial details were not disclosed. ********************* Crucell retains the commercialization rights for Japan, which accounts for 15% of the global influenza vaccine market that, in 2002 totaled € 1.2 billion (USD 1.5 billion*). For Japan, Aventis Pasteur will supply finished vaccine products to Crucell, and Crucell will pay a royalty on sales to Aventis Pasteur. ************ Dutch biotechnology company Crucell N.V. Under the contracts, the two agencies shall help Crucell to contact and secure agreements with prospective Korean and Japanese PER.C6 and Advac licensees for the development and manufacturing of vaccines and gene therapy. They will also offer further support where useful. "The Asian market in general, and South Korea and Japan in particular, holds enormous potential for Crucell and its technology," commented Crucell's CEO, Ronald Brus. "Crucell has already collaborated with South Korean and Japanese vaccine companies in the past and we believe that these newly forged relationships with Pharma&Soft and Biott will be a significant step in developing our vaccine and gene therapy business further in Asia." ******************** Crucell Announces STAR® Research License Agreement with Toyobo Gene Analysis Co. It has taken 4 years for Crucell to get back up to 2/3 or the price it had before it went on its buying spree. First it will buy something, and you guys will get all excited. Then it will issue an earnings report that contains the words... "year of transition", or "some time to integrate" which will be another two years lost. Here's a thought...why don't they follow through on some of the things they have promised to do...such as Epaxal in the US, or biosimiliars, etc. Big Acquisitions haven't worked for big pharma, or really anybody else for that matter. If it is something small...and it is a stock deal, something under 50 million euro, then it will probably be OK.

Ga eens kijken in draadje 'AVA 5 juni 2009'.
Chris Viehbacher op de CC van 29 juli 2009: EBM : Speaking of vaccines, what is your strategic intent with the recent acquisition of Shantha Biotechnics ? Could you expand on how you would like your vaccine business to evolve in the coming years ? What are the growth levers ? CV : This was an extremely important acquisition for our company. If you think about countries that often have less than $500 per year per person to spend on health care, there is no better investment than in vaccines. Now, to be able to achieve that potential, you’ve got to have a portfolio of vaccines that are adapted to the infectious diseases that are prevalent in emerging markets, and also to have the production capacity. With the acquisition of Shantha, we enter into a partnership with a Group that has a world-class quality manufacturing facility in India, but, even more importantly, has a portfolio of new vaccines in things like rotavirus, in terms of cholera vaccines, we can probably create in a very short time an new hexavalent paediatric vaccine. So, this is very complementary to the portfolio of vaccines that we already have and will enable us — with these manufacturing capabilities — to really accelerate our growth in a market where the potential is enormous and where, actually, the healthcare benefit of vaccines is very significant as well. So, it’s very much consistent with the vision that we’ve created of a global health company.www.eurobusinessmedia.com/transcript....
