    Like crocodiles waiting for a herd of wildebeest to cross, here's some submerged Russian tanks.

    After the now famous destruction of Russian pontoon bridges across the Siverskyi Donets river & destruction of around 100 pieces of Russian hardware, these tanks tried to cross.

    William Felix Browder (born April 23, 1964( is an American-born British financier and political activist. He is the CEO and co-founder of Hermitage Capital Management, the investment advisor to the Hermitage Fund, which at one time was the largest foreign portfolio investor in Russia. The Hermitage Fund was founded in partnership with Republic National Bank, with $25 million in seed capital.

    The fund, and associated accounts, eventually grew to $4.5 billion of assets under management. In 1997, the Hermitage Fund was the best-performing fund in the world, up 238%.[6] The primary investment strategy of Browder was shareholder rights activism. Browder took on large Russian companies such as Gazprom, Surgutneftegaz, Unified Energy Systems, and Sidanco.[7] In retaliation, on November 13, 2005, Browder was refused entry to Russia, deported to the UK, and declared a threat to Russian national security.[8]

    Eighteen months after Browder was deported, on June 4, 2007, Hermitage Capital's offices in Moscow were raided by twenty-five officers of Russia's Interior Ministry. Twenty-five more officers raided the Moscow office of Browder's American law firm, Firestone Duncan, seizing the corporate registration documents for Hermitage's investment holding companies.

    Browder assigned Sergei Magnitsky, head of the tax practice at Firestone Duncan, to investigate the purpose of the raid. Magnitsky discovered that while those documents were in the custody of the police, they had been used to fraudulently re-register Hermitage's holding companies to the name of an ex-convict. [9] Magnitsky was subsequently arrested by Russian authorities and died in prison, having been denied proper medical treatment.

    The reregistration of the Hermitage holding companies was an intermediate step before the perpetrators used those companies to apply for a fraudulent $230 million tax refund, awarded on December 24, 2007.[10]

    ‘I look at my government differently’: losses in Ukraine test Russians’ faith

    The satellite and drone imagery from above Bilohorivka tells a tale of folly and destruction. Dozens of Russian tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and trucks lay destroyed, some sinking into the waters of the Donets River by a broken pontoon bridge, pointing to the latest disaster in Russia’s three-month war in Ukraine.

    The toll of Russia’s attempts to cross the river, part of its costly offensive in the east, are staggering: more than 485 killed and as many as 80 vehicles destroyed, according to one estimate, although no numbers of casualties have been confirmed.

    As Russia continues to hide the scale of its losses in Ukraine, more and more information has leaked out, angering the families of Russian soldiers and discouraging even previous supporters of the invasion.

    “I look at my government totally different since the war started,” said Tatyana Efremenko, 39, whose son Nikita Efremenko was a conscript on the Moskva missile cruiser when it was sunk in a Ukrainian missile strike one month ago. She is still searching for her son. “There are some very harsh things I would like to say about our leadership, but maybe best if I don’t because they would put me in prison for it.”

    Ukraine Claims Russian Troops 'increasingly Refusing' To Obey Orders To Conduct Offensive

    The Ukrainian Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence has claimed that Russian armed forces have been "increasingly refusing" to carry out orders of the commands to conduct active offensive operations. The Ukraine's military intelligence has claimed that several units of the 70th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment have "already openly refused" to participate in the war, according to the statement released by the Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Defence Ministry. According to Ukraine, Russian forces have refused to participate in the war and demanded that they must be returned to their places of permanent deployment.

    "The Russian occupiers are increasingly refusing to carry out the orders of the command to conduct active offensive operations on the territory of Ukraine," the Ukrainian Defence Ministry said in the statement.

    In the statement, the Ukrainian Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence Unit claimed that commanders of Russian armed forces have been attempting to hide the disobedience of troops. According to Ukraine, most active service personnel have raised the demand of being returned as they are being deployed at the most dangerous part of the front. The Ukrainian Defence Ministry stated that the Federal Security Service department of the 58th General Army have deployed the units of the 70th Regiment with their freelance agents and informants in order to neutralise the armed forces who refuse to take part in the war.

    "According to Ukraine's military intelligence, despite covert sabotage, several units of the 70th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment have already openly refused to take part in the war and demanded that they be returned to their places of permanent deployment," the Ukrainian Defence Ministry said in the statement.

    Russia lost over 28,000 soldiers since February 24: Ukraine

    It is pertinent to mention here that Russian armed forces had launched a military offensive in Ukraine on February 24. Since then, the hostilities between the two warring nations have led to deaths and destruction in Ukraine. In the latest update, Ukraine on Wednesday, May 18, claimed that the nation’s Armed Forces have killed around 28,300 Russian soldiers since Moscow's aggression started on February 24. Taking to Facebook, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces revealed that the Russian army has lost 1,251 tanks, 3,043 armoured fighting automobiles as well as 586 artillery systems. In addition, Russia has lost around 199 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), 91 anti-aircraft warfare systems, 202 aircraft, 167 helicopters, 2,137 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, 13 ships or boats, 441 unmanned aerial vehicles, 43 special equipments as well as 102 cruise missiles.

    Russia uses new generation of laser weapons in Ukraine

    LONDON (Reuters) -Russia on Wednesday said it was using a new generation of powerful laser weapons in Ukraine to burn up drones, deploying some of Moscow’s secret weapons to counter a flood of Western arms supplied to its former Soviet neighbour.

    resident Vladimir Putin in 2018 unveiled an array of new weapons including a new intercontinental ballistic missile, underwater nuclear drones, a supersonic weapon and a new laser weapon.

    Little is known about the specifics of the new laser weapons. Putin mentioned one called Peresvet, named after a medieval Orthodox warrior monk Alexander Peresvet who perished in mortal combat.

    Yury Borisov, the deputy prime minister in charge of military development, told a conference in Moscow that Peresvet was already being widely deployed and it could blind satellites up to 1,500 km above Earth.

    He said, though, that there were already more powerful Russian systems than Peresvet that could burn up drones and other equipment. Borisov cited a test on Tuesday which he said had burned up a drone 5 km away within five seconds.

    “If Peresvet blinds, then the new generation of laser weapons lead to the physical destruction of the target - thermal destruction, they burn up,” Borisov told Russian state television.

    Asked if such weapons were being used in Ukraine, Borisov said: “Yes. The first prototypes are already being used there.” He said the weapon was called “Zadira”.

    Almost nothing is publicly known about Zadira but in 2017 Russian media said Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, helped develop it as part of a programme to create weapons-based new physical principles, known by the Russian acronym ONFP.

    Besides the benefits in conventional warfare of burning up drones, blinding reconnaissance systems has a strategic impact too as satellites are used to monitor intercontinental ballistic missiles which carry nuclear weapons.

    Borisov said he had just returned from Sarov, a closed town in the Nizhny Novgorod region once known as Arzamas-16 because it was so secret, which is a centre of Russia’s nuclear weapons research.

    He said a new generation of laser weapons using a wide electromagnetic band would ultimately replace conventional weapons.

    “This is not some sort of exotic idea; it is the reality,” Borisov said.

    Hij probeert gerechtigheid te krijgen omtrent het moedwillig laten overlijden van zijn financiele specialist Sergeij Magnisky in de Russische gevangenis

    Deze onderzocht een verduistering van $ 230 miljoen die het Russisch Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken ( en met toestemming van Putin ) deed om de Russische belastingdienst ( en dus de Russische bevolking) te bestelen en het geld naar het buitenland te sluizen

    Het boek lezen is helemaal niet nodig, mits er enige kennis van de gehele geschiedenis is m.b.t. deze meneer.
    Het verhaal is vergelijkbaar met andere zaken in hetzelfde patroon:

    Deze meneer maakte heel veel winst maar daar snoepte het regime niet van mee, dus werd zijn company ineens een staats-vijand en werden de gelden geliquideerd door de verrotte partijen en de beheerder buitenspel gezet middels louche rechtszaken en beschuldigingen van terrorisme en natuurlijk spionage want het is immers een buitenlander, dus lekker makkelijk.
    Zijn imperium wordt geconfisqueerd, en hij wordt verbannen nadat hij al gevlucht is.

    Zijn advocaat verliest helaas het leven ineens, ergens in een gevangenis, zomaar.

    Als er dan geen lichtje gaat branden hoe de vork écht in de steel zit aldaar dan heb je echt een enorm bord voor je snufferd!
