Us steel cijfers zijn binnen. Winst lager dan verwacht, omzet hoger dan verwacht. 3.63 per aandeel verdiend, 4,64 was de gemiddelde verwachting. Persoonlijk vindt ik us steel een ballentent en absoluut niet richtinggevend voor de sector. Nabeurs overigens nauwelijks reactie.

Nucor Reports Record Annual Earnings for 2021 Strategic Research Institute Published on : 28 Jan, 2022, 5:15 am Charlotte North Carolina headquartered steel maker Nucor Corporation has announced consolidated net earnings of USD 6.83 billion for 2021 as compared with consolidated net earnings of USD 721.5 million in 2020. Nucor's President & Chief Executive Officer Mr Leon Topalian said "By so many measures, 2021 was an extraordinary year for Nucor. Our team delivered incredible financial and operational results in 2021. However, I am even prouder of the fact that our team had a record year in Safety performance for the second straight yea. Our record financial performance is the result of years of work investing to strategically position and grows our portfolio of capabilities across the steel value chain. Steel mills total shipments 2021 Sheet - 11.131 million tonnes, up 11% YoY Bars - 9.269 million tonnes, up 14% YoY Structural - 2.649 million tonnes, up 17% YoY Plate - 2.289 million tonnes, up 17% YoY Other - 0.352 million tonnes, up 19% YoY Total - 25.690 million tonnes, up 13% YoY Earnings before income taxes and noncontrolling interests by segment 2021 Steel mills - USD 9,735 million, up 1252% YoY Steel products – USD 1,291 million, up 87% YoY Raw materials - USD 550 million, up 2228% YoY Corporate/eliminations – USD -2,376 million, up 297% YoY Total - USD 9,201 million, up 1001% YoY First Quarter of 2022 Outlook – “End use market demand remains strong for steel and steel products, and we are confident that 2022 will be another year of strong profitability for Nucor. We expect consolidated net earnings attributable to Nucor stockholders in the first quarter of 2022 will be slightly reduced from the record results of the fourth quarter of 2021. Diluted earnings per share for first quarter of 2022 will benefit from lower weighted average shares outstanding. Steel mill segment earnings are expected to decline in the first quarter of 2022 due to decreased profitability of our sheet mills. The steel products segment is expected to achieve further margin expansion and profitability in the first quarter of 2022 as backlog pricing has improved reflecting higher steel costs. Earnings of the raw materials segment are expected to improve slightly in the first quarter of 2022 as compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 due to the improved profitability of our direct reduced iron facilities, partially offset by the impact of lower scrap prices on our scrap brokerage and processing operations.”
PennEnvironment & Clean Airl Terms US Steel Control Total Failure Strategic Research Institute Published on : 28 Jan, 2022, 5:17 am State Impact reported that attorneys for PennEnvironment & the Clean Air Council in a federal air pollution case against US Steel said told Judge W Scott Hardy of US District Court judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh that the three-month loss of pollution controls at the company’s Clairton Coke Works after a 2018 fire was a complete failure by the company to follow clean air laws and argued the company should be charged with over 12,000 violations. They said “It is so incredibly egregious and severe. It could not have led to this many permit violations had it not been a complete failure to implement mandatory clean air act limitations from three of the largest polluting sources in Allegheny County.” The plaintiffs are asking to find the company guilty of committing over 12,000 violations of the Clean Air Act and to order US Steel to implement the necessary upgrades so the plant will never again go without air pollution controls. However, US Steel’s attorneys argued that the plaintiffs inflated the number of violations the company should be subject to, and questioned whether the damages the plaintiffs claimed could be traced to its plants. The company’s attorneys also argued that the court should reject the plaintiffs’ request for a court-appointed review of US Steel’s facilities and a third-party auditor to ensure the plant complies with its federal air quality permits in the future. The judge is expected to make a determination on the number of alleged violations that US Steel committed during the pollution control outage. After that, the case could move to a penalty phase The fire started when a corroded sprinkler pipe fell onto an air compressor in a pollution control room and led to months of bad air in Pittsburgh’s Mon Valley. Until pollution controls were restored, on April 5, 2019, the plant flared untreated coke oven gas, resulting in increased emissions of sulfur dioxide, a lung irritant, by 4,500 percent. Studies conducted since showed that the fire and resulting air pollution worsened breathing for asthma patients and increased the number of emergency room visits for asthma.
Danieli Electric Soaking Furnace Starts at Fagersta Stainless Strategic Research Institute Published on : 28 Jan, 2022, 5:25 am Danieli Centro Combustion announced the startup of a fully electrical soaking furnace for long products led to full operations in four weeks at Fagersta Stainless in Sweden. The Danieli Centro Combustion design maintains and equalizes billet temperature between induction heater reheating furnace and rolling mill. To achieve the process requirement, and at the same time pursue the ambitious target of decarbonization, the furnace is fully powered by electrical resistance. The resistance coils developed and tested in Danieli Research Center are installed along the entire length of the furnace roof and walls maintain the furnace chamber at temperatures up to 1250 degree Celsius, which was never reached before with this heating system. Despite the high temperatures dry rolls are installed, and this further reduces energy consumption by the soaking furnace. Temperature control is performed through a silicon-controlled rectifier that allows very accurate zone-temperature tuning. In addition, the insulation system mainly composed by fiber, guarantees low inertia and high reactivity of the furnace, capable to heat up and cool down quickly with 200 degree Celsius per hour gradients, and maintain constantly the desired temperature with great accuracy plus/minus 2,5 degree Celsius, resulting in high flexibility. The furnace was engineered, manufactured and assembled on site in 7 months following order signature, to meet customer requirement to make it operational at Summer stoppage.
SAIL Opts for HPE GreenLake Edge to Cloud Platform for CMO Strategic Research Institute Published on : 28 Jan, 2022, 5:29 am Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that Steel Authority of India Limited has selected the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform for its Central Marketing Organization to accelerate digital transformation and reduce their environmental footprint through an innovative on-premises cloud with capacity available on demand. SAIL selected the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform to accelerate their digital transformation and deliver an on-premises cloud with capacity available on demand. HPE Pointnext Services worked closely with SAIL to manage the entire system integration project and full end-to-end implementation. HPE designed a new architecture based on open standards together with a complete storage refresh. The HPE team delivered a seamless Unix to Linux migration with minimal upfront investment and application downtime. The new, modernized environment significantly lowered the datacenter footprint and has therefore resulted in reduced power consumption and operational complexity, improved operating costs and environmental footprint. The HPE GreenLake platform offers scalability and delivers the cloud experience through a pay-per-use model while also meeting compliance and regulatory requirements with the data remaining on-premises. HPE GreenLake Central also gives SAIL a dashboard to monitor and plan the daily consumption of IT to provide complete visibility of IT spend to improve budget planning and forecasting. SAIL CMO is backed by a robust ERP system running on HPE technology which underpins all business-critical applications and processes from lead generation to shipment and enables SAIL to deliver quality steel to every corner of the country. Prior to the HPE GreenLake platform migration, SAIL’s existing infrastructure was reaching end of life and they needed to prepare for a migration to S/4 HANA and improve application availability and business continuity.

Tegelijkertijd is Goldman heel positief over AM.

Grtn Dduck
