Some questions about which we can have a discussion (maybe we get inside by discussing): (1) How much can we expect that the installed base grows this year? My comments: If you look to the numbers of 2019,2020 and 2021 it was always around 300 to 350. It would be good if they showed some more ambition on this one, but due to covid it could remain difficult to see these numbers rising. Therefore: 300-350. (2) How much can we expect that the goal will be for cartridge volume growth? Last 3 years it was 32%-31%-40%. My comment: This is where they must be far more ambitious, certainly in combination with higher margins. The installed base grew 20% and I believe (see above) that we can expect something similar for next year (15-20%). Moreover, we had the fire last year which didn't help neither. This should not be the case this year and of course the SeptiCyte Rapid test has been approved, thus first sales kicking in this year. On the other hand testing due to covid could decline, but in this case a lot of postponed care should be done, costs need to go down, ... (see Flatlander). Therefore I would say that the upper goal of last year should be the lower one of this year and thus a goal of 60-80% cartridge growth. (3) How much can we expect the cashburn to be? Comment: Cash position went from 179 (2019) to 124 (2020) to 53.5 (2021). To be honest, I have no clue where to start a decent reasoning for this one. (4) When can we expect that the company reaches break-even? My comments could be far off, but I think it is very valuable to discuss about it and try to understand.
From the year result of 2020 you can see that they were 62.934 (kmil) short, so you will need this as additional revenue to start with. So in total you will need at least 106.062 (kmil) in revenue. So the sales will have to grow exponentially, and will have to grow approximately 146% in total before reaching break even. The cash burn of 21 was even higher, but we still have to look at what the insurance will pay out from the fire.investors.biocartis.com/xbrl/Report-2...
3.38EUR !!

Gijpie I don't think that BCART gets to profitability by ramping in a linear manner. They have shown that the cost increases keep moving the profitability bar further down the line. The inflection point I've cited has has to come from a change in trajectory. I've previously said that the RUO market in the U.S. is small, probably less than 10% of the overall IVD market. BCART is waiting for registration approvals in the U.S., Japan and in China. This could unlock the IVD markets in these geographies and bring the change in trajectory I'm looking for. That said, at present BCART is only pursuing one oncology MDx approval in the U.S. They will need multiple assays to really make the case for Idylla. MSI is a great start since it is said to be a labor intensive assay if performed on other platforms. The other way to quickly ramp sales is an assay that turns out to be a killer application. Perhaps the Merlin assay has that potential. If BCART can place Idylla consoles at dermatology offices it has a lot of potential, even on the royalty model. If you visit the Skyline Dx website, they indicate that they are now moving the Merlin assay on Idylla to validation testing. Remember that Skyline has taken the lead on the development of this assay, I believe their progress is much greater than would have been possible if BCART has taken the lead on the R&D for this Assay. The runway for BCART has gotten short, they cannot continually kick the profitability can down the road. 2022 has to be the year that it becomes obvious to everyone that profitability is firmly in their grasp. I think the emergence from the pandemic will help but they need to show that they are finally executing on things they have promised, including: 1) MSI registration in US; 2) China Registrations of EGFR, BRAF and MSI; 3) Skyline demonstrating that partners can expedite assay development progress using the flex platform; 4) Correct the T790 EGFR Amplification Curve issue so that Idylla is a useful CDx for AZNs drug Tagrisso; 5) Japan registration; 6) cost effective set up of the 3rd manufacturing line in China. 7) Executing an effective capital raise (the last one) that sets the stage for profitability. The Feb 2021 year end update and listing of 2022 goals will be critical to convincing investors and analysts that BCART is turning the corner. FL
Gijpie, Companies go tot the capital markets under all kinds of conditions. I've owned companies that had no immediate need for cash but raised capital because the share price had run up and they wanted to take advantage of favorable market conditions while they existed. I think BCART has to raise capital in the U.S. since the story has grown stale in the EU. They have raised twice in the EU in the past few with essentially the same story, This story will be new in the US and they will be able to paint the picture of the company being at the crossroads of personalized medicine and automation (two themes that were very popular last year). The news flow this year will paint the picture of BCART being a very international company, I think the US raise may be the only way for them to avoid death by a thousand cuts (numerous raises that do not meet long term needs). As I've pointed, out it will help with visibility by introducing the company to a much larger more liquid market. I think BCART management was previously hesitant to venture into the US market since they were trying to put the international distribution/partnership pieces into place. They still risk that Fisher or Illumina could try to flood certain markets with sales force to try to sell their smaller Next gen products that compete with Idylla. However, I think the MSK and Naples studies suggest that a synergistic use of the two systems can exist. BCART has a lot of partnerships that have been announced years ago, never to be mentioned again (almost). It is time for them to show that progress has quietly been made on those fronts. They risk that every new partnership announcement will be dismissed as another headline grabber that will not materialize. FL
This is the Skyline status info on the Idylla Merlin IVD that I previously mentioned.falconprogram.com/ FL
Hey FL, Thanks for the link. I see indeed the stream has passed the development phase. I don't know what the timing is before the stream passes validation. Are we talking months here? Furthermore on the above discussion. I believe the company will have to reach a certain production capacity mass to make it possible for continuity to be preserved and keep investing in the platform and further R&D. This is to my understanding why they are upscaling production capacity towards 1mil (and higher). It is however unclear to me what the status is in China and also why they are not being more transparent about it.
Hi everyone, This is what they wrote in the H1 2021 Financial Report from the 2nd of September 2021, do we have had any update concerning Japan and China I don't remember of?
Hi El Torro, If you look at OncoTypeDx Breast, it took 3 years for the assay to move to Clinical validation when the plug was pulled by EXAS. I'm guessing that the Merlin Analytical Validation will be conducted in silico based on computer modeling algorithms. They are also likely conducting tests on a prototype. But yes, I think we may learn that Merlin is moving to Clinical validation this summer. The downside for BCART is that I have to imagine that the BCART royalty will be negotiated downward significantly if BCART is not performing the upfront R&D. A second potential short term downside is that potential partners may learn that the cartridge R&D process can be expedited by bypassing BCART and bringing the effort in house. In the short term this would likely result in fewer partnership milestone payments but in the long term it would be a positive by building out the ecosystem quicker. I've posted in the past that BCART has a Chicken and the Egg problem. They need enough consoles deployed to be an attractive platform for partners but it is hard to place consoles without sufficient content to make adoption worthwhile. If the flex cartridge is successful in cutting down the assay development time, then it will be a real boon for console placements and system adopters. I think we will learn in Feb or this Spring that WondfoCartis has already secured a site and may have broke ground already. Lets face it China is the Country that constructed hospitals in weeks in Jan 2020 when they learned COVID19 spreading. Verrelst is on record as saying the ML-2 designs can be quickly and cheaply transferred to a third location. Mikron has a presence in Asia and could certainly put ML3 together much quicker than ML2. Hopefully, BCART has already worked to establish agreements for the supply chain to support production on ML3. Again, the only explanations I can offer for the lack of transparency are competitive concerns. As I mentioned in old posts, the Next Gen Sequencing capacity in China is not nearly to the point seen in the West. BCART Tipping the market of its intent might have resulted in increased effort to locate more min seq next gen units in smaller labs in China. Regards FL
Thanks Robert You provided that link while I was working on War and Peace! Either way ML3 is likely already happening. FL
