    Auto opladen kan straks mogelijk in vijf minuten dankzij revolutionaire kabel

    Ford heeft patent aangevraagd op een stroomkabel waarmee elektrische auto's in ongeveer vijf minuten kunnen worden opgeladen. Het geheim zit hem in de koeling van de kabel.

    De autofabrikant en Purdue University ontwikkelen samen een laadkabel voor krachtige laadstations. Daarmee is het volgens de Amerikaanse universiteit mogelijk om de accu’s van een elektrisch voertuig op te laden in dezelfde tijd die nodig is om een ??benzinetank te vullen.

    Momenteel duurt het nog minimaal 20 minuten om een accu van 20 procent naar 80 procent op te laden, maar de kabel van Ford heeft een uniek vloeistofkoelsysteem dat gebruik maakt van damp. Hierdoor kan warmte veel sneller worden afgevoerd en zou er volgens de universiteit tot 2500 ampère door de kabel gestuurd kunnen worden zonder dat de temperatuur te hoog oploopt.

    Dat is vier tot vijf keer meer dan de beste laadkabels die nu worden gebruikt en die maximaal 520 ampère aankunnen. Ford heeft naar verluidt twee jaar nodig om de kabel op de markt te brengen. Het klinkt veelbelovend, maar op het gebied van accutechnologie hebben we ook veel berichten langs zien komen die niet of niet helemaal waargemaakt konden worden.

    Los Angeles to Install EV Chargers for Electric Buses

    The Los Angeles Department of Transportation announced that the agency has been awarded a USD 6 million grant by the California Energy Commission to install one of the largest EV fleet charging systems in the United States that will be powered by a solar and storage microgrid. The solar and storage microgrid paired with 104 EV chargers will support LADOT’s adoption of electric buses as the agency transitions to a fully electric fleet by 2028. LADOT selected Proterra and Apparent to install the EV-charging microgrid at the agency’s Washington Bus Yard where it will manage EV charging and overall energy use for more than 100 electric buses. By delivering clean solar energy generated and storage capacity, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower LADOT’s electricity costs, and also provide emergency back-up power that will enable the agency to continue to operate in an outage.

    LADOT will deploy 1.5 megawatts of rooftop and bus solar canopy paired with a 4.5MWh energy storage system provided by Apparent at the Washington Bus Yard to help power five Proterra 1.5-megawatt fleet chargers with 104 remote EV charging dispensers. The microgrid will utilize Apparent’s intelligent grid operating system (igOS™) platform to integrate Proterra Energy’s charging infrastructure with energy generation to coordinate how and when the electric buses are charged with energy generated from solar, or drawn from storage or the utility. At seven-and-a-half megawatts of EV charging power, the project is one of the largest fleet charging installations in the United States.

    ‘Accu elektrische auto kan tien keer sneller laden’ dankzij Twentse uitvinding

    ENSCHEDE - Onderzoekers van de Universiteit Twente zeggen in samenwerking met Duitse en Chinese wetenschappers een nieuw materiaal te hebben ontwikkeld waarmee lithium-ion accu’s tot tien keer sneller kunnen worden geladen.

    Het opladen van een lithium-accu van een elektrische auto’s duurt met een snellader een kleine twintig minuten. Dat kan straks tien keer sneller door een nieuw materiaal dat aan de Universiteit Twente is ontwikkeld. Dat sneller laden kan door de pool van waaruit elektriciteit lithium-ion accu’s binnenstroomt van nikkelniobaat te maken.

    Fabricage eenvoudig
    Dit concluderen onderzoekers van het Enschedese MESA+ Instituut. Het nieuwe materiaal kan worden toegepast zonder het risico dat de accu kapot gaat of minder lang mee gaat. Voordeel van dit nieuwe materiaal - nikkelniobaat - is ook dat de fabricage relatief eenvoudig is. De onderzoekers hebben hun eerste ervaringen met accu’s met de nieuwe anode gepubliceerd in Advanced Energy Materials.

    Ook lithium vervangen
    Wereldwijd wordt er gezocht naar nieuwe materialen die er bovendien voor moeten zorgen dat de productie van accu’s duurzamer wordt. Het nieuwe materiaal nikkelniobaat komt ook na vele keren ultrasnel laden gewoon weer terug op het oude niveau. Volgens onderzoeksleider prof. Mark Huijben is het ook een interessante optie om nu ook te kijken naar een alternatief voor lithium, zoals natrium. Hij verwacht dat het goed te combineren is met nikkelniobaat.

    Xpeng: Chinees EV-merk volgend jaar in Nederland

    De Chinese autofabrikant Xpeng komt de Nederlandse automarkt met zijn aanwezigheid verblijden. In 2022 brengt de fabrikant van elektrische auto's in Nederland zijn eerste modellen op de markt.

    In 2020 gaf de Chinese fabrikant Xpeng aan grote Europese ambities te hebben. Xpeng is in Noorwegen inmiddels actief en geeft in 2022 een vervolg aan zijn Europese expansiedrift. Het merk breidt zijn invloedssfeer volgend jaar uit naar Zweden, Denemarken en ... Nederland!

    Xpeng is voornemens om in onder meer Amsterdam een Xpeng Experience Center te openen waar de auto's van de fabrikant 'ervaren' kunnen worden. Xpeng Motors werd zo'n 6 jaar geleden opgericht door een tweetal voormalig bestuursleden van de Chinese autobouwer GAC Group. In Noorwegen verkoopt Xpeng momenteel de G3 en de P7. De onlangs in China al gefacelifte Xpeng G3 is een 4,45 meter lange elektrische cross-over met een 55 kWh-accu waarmee de auto volgens de NEDC-cyclus zo'n 460 kilometer kan afleggen. Ook is er een variant die dankzij een 66 kWh accu 520 kilometer ver komt.

    De P7 is een 4,88 meter lange elektrische sedan die op termijn deze P5 onder zich krijgt. De Xpeng P7 staat in ieder geval ook voor Nederland op de rol. De elektrische sedan heeft een 80 kWh accu en heeft in het gunstigste geval volgens de WLTP-cyclus een actieradius van 550 kilometer. Dat rijbereik hoort bij de 267 pk sterke Super Long Range-versie met achterwielaandrijving. In 6,9 seconden zoemt deze Chinese sedan naar de 100 km/h. Ook komt er een vierwielaangedreven sportievere variant die dankzij twee samen 430 pk sterke elektromotoren slechts 4,5 tellen de tijd neemt voor de 0-100 sprint, maar die met een WLTP-bereik van 470 kilometer wel minder ver komt. De Xpeng P7 heeft een wielbasis van bijna 3 meter en slokt 440 liter aan bagage op. In het interieur zit in beide uitvoeringen een bijna 15 inch metend display. De P7 - waarvan zelfs een editie met vlinderdeuren bestaat (foto 8) - heeft in Noorwegen een vanafprijs van omgerekend zo'n €45.000.

    Volgend jaar wordt meer bekend over Xpeng en zijn Nederlandse plannen. De Chinese merken weten hun weg naar Europa inmiddels steeds beter te vinden. Inmiddels kennen we naast Polestar merken als MG, Aiways, Lynk & Co, Seres en Maxus en ook Hongqi, BYD, NIO en Byton hebben grootse Europese plannen.

    Panasonic’s new Tesla battery lasts five times longer and costs half as much

    Battery production at Panasonic’s factory will increase 100-fold making these new cells

    Panasonic has developed an advanced prototype battery for Tesla cars with five times the capacity of standard ones.

    The battery was unveiled at a media roundtable, Automotive News reports, and will cost 50 per cent less to make and will boost production at the Japanese company “100-fold” by the end of the decade.

    Eerste wisselstation in Europa levert binnen 5 minuten volle accu voor auto

    De Chinese autofabrikant Nio is de eerste die zijn klanten aanbiedt om lege accu's om te wisselen voor volle. Zo hoef je als automobilist nooit langer dan vijf minuten te wachten voor je verder kunt rijden. Het eerste Europese wisselstation staat in Noorwegen.

    In het Scandinavische land wordt de Nio ES8 al enkele maanden verkocht. Deze suv kun je niet alleen opladen met een stekker, maar is ook geschikt voor een snelle accuwissel onderweg. In China zijn inmiddels al vijfhonderd wisselstations gebouwd en is er al meer dan 500.000 keer een accu gewisseld.

    Het systeem werkt op basis van een abonnement met de naam Battery as a Service, oftewel BaaS. Daarmee kun je binnenrijden bij een wisselstation, alwaar binnen vijf minuten jouw lege accu wordt omgewisseld voor een volle. De lege accu wordt opgeladen en klaargezet voor de volgende Nio-rijder.

    Volgens website Autogids kost een batterij-abonnement tussen de 140 en 200 euro per maand. Daarvoor krijg je een standaardabonnement of een zogeheten long range-abonnement. Daarbij zijn zes gratis accuwissels per maand inbegrepen. Eind volgend jaar zijn er minimaal twintig wisselstations in Noorwegen. Daarna is Duitsland aan de beurt. Of de service ook naar Nederland komt en of hij op termijn geschikt is voor andere elektrische auto's, is niet bekend.

    Switch Mobility to Supply 300 eBuses to BMTC

    Switch announced the supply and operation of 300 12meter electric buses for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The fleet and charging infrastructure will be supplied, operated and maintained by Switch for a period of 12 years on a Gross Cost Contract Model under the FAME II Scheme. The state-of-the-art, technologically advanced, low-noise buses will make commuting more comfortable for the people of Bengaluru. The buses are expected to reduce fuel consumption by around 5.5 million litres annually, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions by more than 14,500 tonnes per year, alongside cost savings for BMTC.

    This contract further reinforces the company’s vision to be a global technology leader, providing net zero carbon commercial mobility products and solutions that create outstanding value for all stake holders.

    BlackRock investeert in autolaadnetwerk Ionity
    Samen met autofabrikanten.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Porsche heeft woensdag bekendgemaakt dat BlackRock investeert in het oplaadnetwerk Ionity, waar een aantal autofabrikanten inmiddels aan meedoet.

    Porsche investeert tot en met 2025 een bedrag van 700 miljoen euro, samen met andere aandeelhouders in Ionity. Welke belangen individuele bedrijven of BlackRock hebben, werd niet bekendgemaakt.

    Persbureau Reuters wist in oktober te melden dat Blackrock dichtbij een investering van circa 500 miljoen euro was.

    Ionity wil het aantal Europese oplaadpunten voor elektrische auto's van 1.500 uitbreiden naar 7.000 in 2025. Behalve het sportmerk van het Volkswagen-concern zitten ook BMW, Mercedes, Ford, KIA en Audi in deze samenwerking.

    Chinese officials in Afghanistan to explore lithium projects

    Officials representing several Chinese companies are in Afghanistan to conduct on-site inspections of potential lithium projects, reported state-backed Chinese newspaper Global Times, adding that policy and security risks remain.

    Representatives of five companies obtained special visas, arriving in Afghanistan in early November, via the China Arab Economic and Trade Promotion Committee in Kabul and Afghanistan’s mining ministry, said the Global Times, citing “several Chinese businessmen in Afghanistan” without naming the companies.

    Ganfeng Lithium, China’s biggest lithium producer, told Reuters it was unaware of the trip.

    Afghanistan is rich in resources ranging from copper, lead, zinc, gold, oil and gas, bauxite, coal, iron ore and rare earths. It also has large reserves of lithium, a key component used for the batteries of electric vehicles.

    Prices for lithium carbonate in China, a key material used to make rechargeable batteries, at 197,500 yuan ($30,940) a tonne are up 276% since the start of this year due to booming demand alongside accelerating sales of electric vehicles.

    Chinese state media and industry sources have said China could contribute to post-war reconstruction and develop resource projects in Taliban-led Afghanistan, though the necessary infrastructure will take years to build and security issues may intervene.

    China’s Jiangxi Copper, which took on a 30-year lease for Afghanistan’s Mes Aynak copper mine with the Metallurgical Corp of China, said in September that it is monitoring the situation in Afghanistan and would push forward with development when possible.

    Volta Zero Vehicles Production Starts

    Volta Trucks has started production of the first road-going ‘Design Verification’ prototype Volta Zero vehicle at a bespoke facility in Coventry in UK. The DV prototypes are the first full-electric Volta Zero vehicles to be built in the recently unveiled production-ready design. A total of 25 vehicles will be manufactured and once completed in January, the fleet will embark on a rigorous testing regime. This will involve Volta Trucks engineers replicating a wide range of customer usage and delivery cycles, as well as taking the Volta Zero to the extremes of cold weather environments in the Arctic, hot weathers in equatorial conditions, and crash testing, all to validate the safety, durability, and reliability of the vehicle.

    The results of the comprehensive DV testing programme will be fed into the final prototype stage – ‘Production Verification’ (PV). The PV prototype vehicles will be built at the company’s new manufacturing plant in Steyr, Austria, in mid-2022. Many of these production-specification prototypes will be lent to selected customers for extended periods to be tested in their real-world logistics conditions, undertaking millions of delivery kilometres, alongside Volta Trucks’ own engineers.

    Solaris Charging Park for Electric Vehicles to Open in H1 of 2022

    Solaris Charging Park is a new investment being built at the premises of Solaris in Bolechowo near Poznan. Featuring different charging systems and with bidirectional power flow capability, the park will be one of the most innovative of its kind in Europe. The possibility it will provide to test a variety of solutions will allow Solaris to respond precisely to the growing demand for electric buses from European operators. The Charging Park will open for use in the first half of 2022.

    In 2021 Solaris delivered several hundred e-buses to almost 30 towns and cities across Europe. It is zero-emission vehicles that are the sales priority of the company and year by year they are accounting for an ever larger share of orders fulfilled by the producer. Investment in its own Charging Park, a single central site for charging e-buses, marks a natural step in the dynamic development of Solaris’s zero-emission range.

    The entire Charging Park will cover an area of 5000 square meters. In its roofed part there will be 4 stands for vehicles, the main charger and a technical room. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof of the structure to enable energy to be generated locally from renewable sources. Plug-in charging islands will be located right next to it. The new space will become a place where all loading / unloading processes as well as tests of new technologies and functionalities will take place. Moreover, the Charging Park will also serve clients by showcasing innovative solutions for them to see.

    The Charging Park will feature charging systems made by three different suppliers. This will allow various battery charging modes to be tested and thus provide offerings tailored to different market needs. The first solution is a charger with eight charging points (with a power output ranging from 150 kW to 600 kW) that can charge three vehicles at the same time. The system is compatible with all connectors available on the market and can connect to both buses and trolleybuses. It also supports the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality, i.e. bidirectional energy flow between vehicles and the grid. Solaris Charging Park will be the first bidirectional charging park in Poland and one of the first innovative sites of its kind in Europe. The deployment of V2G technology is a complete novelty, one which will make it possible to discharge buses for test purposes and to use vehicles as mobile energy storage facilities.

    The charging site will also boast a charger with four charging points with a total power output of 300 kW. It will feature two socket outlets as well as one conventional and one inverted pantograph. What is more, two independent plug-in chargers with a power output of 150 kW each and V2G capability will also be installed. A central management system will allow the operation of the Charging Park to be monitored and remotely controlled.

    The construction work is slated to be completed by the end of this year and the Park will be fully operational by mid-2022.

    In oktober zijn in de Europese Unie met 665.000 stuks maar liefst 30 procent minder auto’s verkocht dan in dezelfde maand vorig jaar.
    De bestverkochte auto was met 18.109 verkochte exemplaren de Peugeot 2008.
    De compacte cross-over doet het met afstand beter dan de nummer twee.
    Dat is de Renault Clio met 14.639 verkochte auto's.

Ook komt er een vierwielaangedreven sportievere variant die dankzij twee samen 430 pk sterke elektromotoren slechts 4,5 tellen de tijd neemt voor de 0-100 sprint, maar die met een WLTP-bereik van 470 kilometer wel minder ver komt. De Xpeng P7 heeft een wielbasis van bijna 3 meter en slokt 440 liter aan bagage op. In het interieur zit in beide uitvoeringen een bijna 15 inch metend display. De P7 - waarvan zelfs een editie met vlinderdeuren bestaat (foto 8) - heeft in Noorwegen een vanafprijs van omgerekend zo'n €45.000.

    Volgend jaar wordt meer bekend over Xpeng en zijn Nederlandse plannen. De Chinese merken weten hun weg naar Europa inmiddels steeds beter te vinden. Inmiddels kennen we naast Polestar merken als MG, Aiways, Lynk & Co, Seres en Maxus en ook Hongqi, BYD, NIO en Byton hebben grootse Europese plannen.
