Herning, Denmark, 27 April 2021 – Everfuel A/S today launched the company’s H2 station roll-out plan for Sweden targeting up to 15 strategically positioned fueling sites for zero emission transport by end of 2023. The plan is the second section of the Everfuel’s Scandinavian green hydrogen fueling strategy for trucks, buses and cars connecting the main traffic corridors in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The Swedish network will comprise of sites developed by Everfuel as well as fueling stations in the partly EU funded Nordic Hydrogen Corridor initiative, developed in collaboration with the project partners Statkraft, Toyota, Hyundai and Hydrogen Sweden. The initiative, aiming at deploying up to eight fueling stations and associated hydrogen production- and distribution infrastructure, is co-financed via Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Planning and site selection are currently ongoing in close cooperation with professional transport sector customers, central and local authorities and public funding programs.

“Everfuel is at the vanguard of the green transition in Scandinavia and Europe by integrating and optimizing the green hydrogen value chain for zero emission mobility. We consider Sweden, Norway and Denmark our home market and are committed to lead the roll-out of solutions at scale for safe hydrogen production, distribution and fueling to end-customers. The Nordic Hydrogen Corridor project is an important part of this plan which will require substantial investments, partnerships with end-users and vehicle-providers, and public financial backing”, says Jacob Krogsgaard, the CEO and founder of Everfuel.

The Swedish H2 station network is part of Everfuel’s Ramp-up phase of the announced plan to invest EUR 1.5 billion in developing the green hydrogen value chain in Europe and reach EUR 1 billion of revenue from sale of hydrogen fuel to buses, trucks and cars before 2030. Large-scale hydrogen fueling networks are required for the EU and Sweden to meet their climate targets.

Everfuel aims to develop a Scandinavian H2 fueling network which will initially cover Norway south of Trondheim, Sweden south of Stockholm and Denmark. The network further supports the STRING initiative for establishing a hydrogen corridor with refueling stations from Hamburg to Oslo. This is planned as an EU co-financed project with a public-private-partnership, uniting stakeholders along the entire hydrogen value chain. STRING consists of minimum 13 stakeholders across eight regions and five major cities in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

“At TOYOTA Sweden, we are welcoming these investments in infrastructure for hydrogen in Sweden and our neighbouring countries. Developed infrastructure is much needed for us as country to reach our goals for carbon neutrality. Additionally, Toyota Sweden will shortly deliver the first vehicles of the second generation of our fuel cell hydrogen vehicle Toyota Mirai”, says Christian Norberg, CEO at Toyota Sweden AB.

Everfuel has mapped out planned H2 station locations in Sweden and will optimize exact site selection and roll-out sequence based on close dialogue with ambitious end-users and in close cooperation with local authorities. In line with these dialogues and optimizations, the first specific site selections are expected to be officially announced in 2021.

Please see the attached presentation for more information on Everfuel’s Scandinavian Hydrogen Stations Ambitions 2023, including a preliminary overview of the associated H2 station network locations in Sweden.

Herning, Denmark, 10 November 2021 – Everfuel A/S now distributes green hydrogen from Siemens Gamesa’s pilot project in Brande, Denmark.

The project is the first to produce green hydrogen from wind in “island mode”, with the option of connecting it to the grid. The project now produces green hydrogen which is distributed by Everfuel as part of the commissioning phase. The locally produced hydrogen is distributed to Everfuel’s hydrogen refuelling stations and fuels the growing number of fuel-cell vehicles operating on a truly green fuel supply.

“Demonstrating the entire value chain for locally produced green hydrogen is something we have been looking very much forward to. The wind turbine in the project is close to the Everfuel headquarter, which means that the wind blowing here today, powers the taxies in Copenhagen tomorrow. Siemens Gamesa has extensive experience in wind and partnering with them on distributing green hydrogen from the project is a dedication to the energy transition. It is no longer enough to have renewables. We need to be able to decouple production of renewable energy from consumption, in order to make zero-emission mobility happen,” says Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO at Everfuel.

“There is no way around green hydrogen. It is a game changer in the quest to decarbonize the power supply and solve the climate crisis. Our hydrogen-producing wind turbine is an example of the innovative projects that will help shape the emerging clean-fuel market and accelerate the green energy transition as we integrate unprecedented amounts of renewable energy into the energy system. We are very proud to have reached yet another milestone in making this vision a reality – getting our first 100% green hydrogen out to the consumers,” says Poul Skjærbæk, Chief Innovation Officer, Service, at Siemens Gamesa.

The project “Brande Hydrogen” couples an existing onshore Siemens Gamesa wind turbine with an electrolyser stack and enables a number of tests and experiments and shows that green hydrogen can be produced without using any energy from the grid, known as “island mode”.

The company is engaging with partners, customers and authorities across the entire value chain from production to distribution and fuelling when executing its long-term strategy for value creation as a leading European green hydrogen fuel company.

The roll-out of the Scandinavian hydrogen (H2) fuelling network is a key strategic priority for Everfuel. The start-up in Norway, recent opening of new sites in Copenhagen and preparations for the initial stations in Sweden are milestones achieved to date in 2021. The new H2 stations in operations are expected to positively impact revenue starting in the fourth quarter. Developing hydrogen production capacity is another key priority, reflected in construction start on the HySynergy Phase I electrolyser in Fredericia, progress on planning for the Phase II expansion and industrial partnerships.

The initiatives are aimed at developing Everfuel’s position as a leading European provider of safe, stable and cost-efficient green hydrogen to end-users through competitive all-inclusive hydrogen supply- and fuelling solutions targeting large bus-, truck- and taxi-fleets supported by data-driven optimisation. All stations are, or will soon be, accessible for customers using the Everfuel App. The app and the company’s hydrogen distribution trailers and related assets will be connected to the company’s proprietary Helios big data system aimed at driving efficiency and competitiveness across the hydrogen value chain.

“With COP26 fresh in mind, there is no doubt that we are moving towards a step-change in production of renewable energy and transition to decarbonisation of transportation world-wide. We are starting to see political acknowledgement of the many possibilities of green hydrogen and in PtX of as an important part of the solution to the climate changes we are facing. We and the entire hydrogen industry need to develop the market in close cooperation with technology providers and end-users and with support of the authorities. As such, we are pleased that our HySynergy Phase II project has progressed in the EU’s IPCEI funding plan, a confirmation of European interest in making green hydrogen commercially available,” said Jacob Krogsgaard, the founder and CEO of Everfuel.

“We are also excited to see an increasing number of vehicles transitioning to zero-emission hydrogen. Fleets of hydrogen taxies are rolling out in the largest cities in Denmark, contributing to cleaner air and enabling taxi companies to meet rising customer demand for green mobility,” Krogsgaard added.

Everfuel had total revenue, representing sale of hydrogen and other operating revenue, of EUR 149 thousand in the third quarter of 2021. Direct revenue from hydrogen remained impacted by Covid-19 curbing traffic combined reduced capacity in Copenhagen due to opening the new high-capacity station was postponed until in the fourth quarter. Other operating revenue is primarily driven by one-off items. EBITDA was negative EUR 1.8 million, reflecting continued ramp-up of activity and organisation during the period.

The financial results reflect that the company is still in the initial stages of commercializing the green hydrogen value chain in its target markets.

Total assets at 30 September 2021 amounted to EUR 84 million, compared to EUR 27.1 million at 31 December 2020, of which cash holdings were EUR 69.5 million (EUR 23.4 million). Total equity amounted to EUR 80.4 million (EUR 25.7 million). Changes from year-end 2020 predominantly reflected net proceeds of NOK 600/EUR 58.5 million from the private placement in January 2021 and investments made through the period.

Everfuel to supply excess heat from HySynergy facility to local district heating network

Herning, Denmark, 21 December 2021 – Everfuel A/S is pleased announce the signing of a heat offtake agreement with TVIS whereby surplus heat from green hydrogen production at the HySynergy electrolysers will be used to warm up homes and businesses connected to the local district heating network. The collaboration will initially provide green heating to the equivalent of 500-600 homes.

“We are securing good cross-sector integration and potentially reduced production costs by connecting hydrogen production from the PtX facility with district heating. While the technology is proven, we are step-by-step building a new energy system that delivers a real sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. We are in the early phase of a market which will move in one direction, and we look forward to developing green energy with TVIS,” said Jacob Krogsgaard, the CEO of Everfuel.

TVIS, which represents municipalities in the Triangle Area of Denmark and operates the local district heating system, will build a 1.2kilometer- heat transmission connecting the HySynergy electrolysers next to the Crossbridge refinery in Fredericia to the current heating line between Vejle and Fredricia. The transmission line will initially provide cooling to eight electrolyser units in the HySynergy facility with return of water heated to approximately 70ºC into the district heating system.

“Our agreement is mutually beneficial. District heating will enable Everfuel to cool its production facilities, generating excess heat which is converted to a resource for the district heating users in the Triangle Area,” said Lars Schmidt, the chairman of the board of directors at TVIS.

“This is likely the first surplus heat agreement for any PtX facility in Denmark and the entire Nordic region, enabling us to increase the overall energy efficiency of the HySynergy facilities and support local communities with zero-emission heat energy. It reflects Everfuel’s commitment to realise the full value creation potential of industrial scale green hydrogen production,” said Jesper Veilstrup, senior project manager at Everfuel.

Under the agreement, TVIS will compensate Everfuel for the hot water returned to the district heating system. This is not expected to represent material revenue for Everfuel during the initial phase. The two companies are working together to integrate more heat sources from the hydrogen production plant into the district heating system.

Everfuel receives SEK 45 million grant for two H2 stations in Sweden

Herning, Denmark, 27 January 2022 – Everfuel A/S is pleased to announce that its subsidiary Everfuel Sweden AB has been awarded two grants totalling approximately SEK 45 million by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency under The Climate Leap (Klimatklivet) investment program as partial financing for two hydrogen refuelling stations in the Värmland region.

The stations will be established in cooperation with the local unit of OKQ8 as part of Evefuel’s ongoing collaboration with the leading Scandinavian operator of service stations. Some of the main traffic corridors in Sweden run across Värmland, connecting the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Karlstad. The main road between Oslo in Norway and Stockholm also crosses the region. It is home to a significant forest industry and other business activities relying on heavy trucking for which hydrogen is very well suited with OEM’s ready to receive orders for the first vehicles.

“Everfuel and our Swedish partners share the same ambition of accelerating the transition to zero-emission transport. Establishing infrastructure for safe, efficient refuelling of green hydrogen made from renewable wind and solar power will be a key contributor to delivering on that ambition. We are therefore very pleased with the support from The Climate Leap to establish two H2 stations in this ambitious region where we already have interest from several potential customers,” said Jacob Krogsgaard, the CEO of Everfuel.

The two Värmland sites will be part of Everfuel’s H2 station roll-out plan targeting up to 15 strategically positioned refuelling points by end of 2023. The Swedish network will comprise of sites developed by Everfuel in cooperation with partners such as OKQ8, and under the partially EU funded Nordic Hydrogen Corridor initiative developed in collaboration with the project partners Statkraft, Toyota, Hyundai and Hydrogen Sweden. Public funding programs and customer commitments are key elements for realising the plan which is part of Everfuel’s Scandinavian green hydrogen fuelling strategy for trucks, buses and cars connecting the main traffic corridors in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The first Everfuel station in Sweden is expected to open later this year in Trelleborg.

The Climate Leap is the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s investment program supporting the reduction of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. The invested funds must provide the largest possible emission reduction per invested Swedish krona. Additional positive effects are linked to the spread and market introduction of new technology, employment, improved health and positive environmental impact beyond reaching climate goals.

350MW power connection reserved for HySynergy Phase II

Herning, Denmark, 7 February 2022 - The Danish TSO, Energinet has positively assessed Everfuel’s request for a 350MW power connection for Phase II of the HySynergy power-to-X (PtX) plant in Fredericia, Denmark.

Phase I of the 20 MW PtX plant is currently under construction and is planned to be scaled to 300MW by 2025. Moving towards the approval of being able to connect the 350 MW power connection to a nearby 150kV transformer station is a vital step in realising Phase II of the PtX plant.

The next step towards getting the approval from Energinet is the so-called pre-construction agreement which will also start the materialisation of the grid connection.

The flexibility of the PtX plant brings new possibilities for the TSO on how to balance the grid. In peak times where the PtX plant is running at full load and a grid fault occurs, the PtX plant can be curtailed almost instantly and free up the reserve capacity of the grid and avoid any grid overloads. This will likely be one of the tools in the toolbox for the grid operator to operate the grid during and after the transition to 100% renewable energy.

“The undertaking of the 350MW power connection to HySynergy Phase II is an exciting next step in materializing the PtX ambitions in Denmark. The Danish Government’s new PtX strategy requires substantial investments in the grid infrastructure, but we are pleased with Energinet’s screening report stating that the grid will be ready for connecting the 350MW. Once the PtX plant is operational it will contribute considerably to better utilise the Danish renewable energy resources,” says Uffe Borup, CTO at Everfuel.

“It is an important step on the way to making the Danish PtX ambitions come true. It paves the way for more climate friendly fuels for the mobility sector of the future,” says Finn Schousboe, CEO at Crossbridge Energy A/S.

It is expected that the grid connection can be operational late 2024 or early 2025, which is well aligned with first electrolyser installation in HySynergy Phase II.

    • End of December cash position of EUR 59.3 million after asset investments done in Q4
    • First disbursement from EIB loan facility for HySynergy Phase I project in Q1-2022

Everfuel’s ambition is to make green hydrogen for zero emission mobility commercially available across Europe. The company is engaging with partners, customers and authorities across the entire value chain from production to distribution and fuelling when executing its long-term strategy for value creation as a leading European green hydrogen fuel company.

In 2021, the company progressed several strategic initiatives to establish a Scandinavian hydrogen (H2) fuelling network, develop hydrogen production and establish industrial partnerships to position hydrogen as a leading zero-emission fuel and enabler for decarbonised transport at scale. These initiatives position Everfuel as a leading European provider of safe, stable and cost-efficient hydrogen made from renewable solar- and wind energy.

In the fourth quarter, Everfuel experienced an increase in end-user activity. The growth is a function of the growing fleet of hydrogen taxis in Denmark combined with the opening of a new H2 refuelling site in Copenhagen. Activity was however impacted by new COVID-19 measures implemented late in the quarter which reduced taxi usage and H2 dispensing. These measures have continued into the first month of 2022.

“We are pleased with the strategic progress Everfuel is making. This is reflected in increased end-user activity at our refuelling stations, the expansion into Germany, strong partnerships and an exciting project pipeline. We remain focused on making hydrogen happen, and I am confident that Everfuel is well on the way to become one of the leading European providers of green hydrogen,” said Jacob Krogsgaard, the founder and CEO of Everfuel.

Everfuel had total revenue, representing sale of hydrogen and other operating revenue, of EUR 348 thousand in the fourth quarter of 2021. Direct revenue from hydrogen increased compared to the previous quarter with the opening of the new high-capacity station in Copenhagen. However, fuelling activity was negatively impacted by Covid-19 and additional public health measures implemented in December in response to a new virus variant. The measures reduced traffic towards year-end and into early 2022. Other operating revenue is primarily driven by one-off items. EBITDA was negative EUR 2.5 million, reflecting continued ramp-up of activity and organisation during the quarter.

Total revenue for the full year was EUR 0.83 million, compared with EUR 1.05 million in 2020. The development in revenue is caused by an increased sale of hydrogen and a reduced other operating revenue. EBITDA was negative EUR 6.8 million (EUR -1.1 million). The financial results reflect that the company is still in the initial stages of commercializing the green hydrogen value chain in its target markets.

Total assets at 31 December 2021 amounted to EUR 83.8 million, compared to EUR 27.1 million at 31 December 2020, of which cash holdings were EUR 59.3 million (EUR 23.4 million). Total equity amounted to EUR 77.2 million (EUR 25.8 million). Changes from year-end 2020 predominantly reflected net proceeds of NOK 600/EUR 58.5 million from the private placement in January 2021 and investments made during the year.
