Chinese EV Stock Performance: Nio shares ran up to record highs of $66.99 Jan. 11, reacting to the Nio Day event held Jan. 9. Since then, the stock has pulled back. Xpeng, meanwhile, peaked at $74.49 Dec. 24 before pulling back. After moving roughly sideways thereafter, the stock has staged a comeback in recent sessions. Li Auto is witnessing a lean patch after it hit an all-time high of $47.70, also on Dec. 24. The upcoming week's delivery numbers and the imminent fourth-quarter results could be the key to determine which way the stocks are headed.finance.yahoo.com/news/upcoming-catal...
Xpeng Makes The Right Noises: Xpeng, which listed its ADSs on the NYSE in late August, has also joined the party. "XPeng is well positioned to take market share in the mid-tier and lower premium market, delivering a tech-centric 'smart' experience through pushing the limits of its ADAS features and cockpit user interface functionality, especially in voice recognition," Deutsche Bank's Yu said in a note. Xpeng — which sells the G3, an EV SUV and the P7, an all-electric sedan — is expected to launch a new sedan with lidar technology this year. Earlier this week, the company launched a major over-the-air upgrade for its P7 sedan customers in China, delivering a new version of XPeng's operating system, Xmart OS 2.5.0. In December, Xpeng delivered a record number of 5,700 vehicles, a 326% increase year-over-year and a 35% increase month-over-month. For the year, the company delivered a total of 27,041 vehicles, a 112% increase year-over-year.
NIO has been relatively quiet through this wild week for the U.S. markets. But in a note on Thursday, Morgan Stanley analyst Tim Hsaio raised his forecast for electric-vehicle sales in China to 1.7 million units this year; his earlier estimate had been for sales of 1.5 million vehicles. This led him to boost the price targets of two of China's electric-makers -- NIO's to $80 from $33, Li Auto's (NASDAQ:LI) to $49 from $26. He also initiated coverage of a third, Xpeng Motors (NYSE:XPEV), with a target of $70.www.fool.com/investing/2021/01/29/why...
Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV), the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, continues from strength to strength. Xpeng stock will track Nio‘s (NYSE:NIO) rise as it’s on a similar growth path as its larger EV peer. If we compare both companies, we see that Xpeng is starting to catch up with Nio. In fact, this implies that its market value and Xpeng stock should be at least 64% higher than it is today at $95 per share. But consider this. Nio stock has a $91 billion market capitalization but Xpeng’s market cap is 39.3% of this at $35.8 billion. But if Xpeng is delivering almost 75% as many EVs as Nio. Therefore, it should have 75% of Nio’s market cap, or $67.9 billion (i.e., 74.7% times $93.7 billion). That means Xpeng is worth 64.7% more (i.e., $67.9 billion divided by $24 billion minus 1). In other words, Xpeng stock should be trading 64.7% higher than $58, its current price, or $95.50 per share. That is if Xpeng keeps on its similar growth path as Nio, and in fact, seems to be growing slightly faster than the company, at least in terms of deliveries. However, we will need to analyze the two companies’ sales and earnings when they come out soon. This may temper the valuation a bit.investorplace.com/2021/01/xpeng-stock...
