Everfuel signs green hydrogen distribution contract with Ørsted
Herning, Denmark, 20 January 2021 – Everfuel A/S has signed a contract with Ørsted for the offtake and distribution of green hydrogen to zero emission mobility, produced at the H2RES demonstration project on Avedøre Holme in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The contract was signed as Ørsted announced its final investment decision for the H2RES project’s electrolyser facility, which will be the company’s first renewable hydrogen project utilizing offshore wind power to produce green hydrogen. The facility will have a capacity of 2MW, producing up to around 1,000 kg of renewable hydrogen per day with expected start-up in late 2021. Everfuel will build and operate a compression and trailer-fill facility next to the electrolyser. The hydrogen will be distributed to end-users via Everfuel’s network of fueling stations in Copenhagen and Zealand.

“Green hydrogen will play a pivotal role in decarbonizing our society. We are therefore very pleased to advance our good collaboration with Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy, to further develop and commercialize the sustainable hydrogen value chain for zero-emission mobility”, says Jacob Krogsgaard, the CEO and founder of Everfuel.

Everfuel is investing in hydrogen trailers and a new high-capacity hydrogen fueling station in Copenhagen to serve the increasing fleet of hydrogen taxies and the initial fuel-cell buses operating in and around the Danish capital, as well as prepare fueling availability for further light- and heavy-duty fuel cell vehicles in the region.

The Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP) under the Danish Energy Agency has previously awarded DKK 34.6 million for the development of the H2RES project to Ørsted, Everfuel, NEL Hydrogen, Green Hydrogen Systems, DSV Panalpina, Hydrogen Denmark, and Energinet Elsystemansvar.

    Beide in porto

erning, Denmark, 9 February 2021 – Everfuel A/S signed a contract with Howden for the delivery of hydrogen compression to Everfuel’s green hydrogen production facility under development adjacent to the Fredericia refinery in Denmark.

Howden has been selected to deliver a hydrogen compression solution for Everfuel’s green hydrogen production facility. Hydrogen compression is the second-most critical component of the 20 MW hydrogen HySynergy facility under development at Fredericia after the alkaline electrolyser, which is supplied by NEL. The compression solution is scheduled to be delivered in early 2022 and the contract value is just below EUR 2 million.

"This is the second major contract we have awarded to develop our own green hydrogen production at the HySynergy electrolyser. We have worked closely with Howden and Nel to optimize plant design and ensure we integrate and utilize the compressors in the most cost-efficient manner, and thereby reducing the total cost of the electrolyser installation,” said Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO of Everfuel.

CEO of Howden, Ross Shuster, stated: “This cooperation with Everfuel demonstrates Howden’s capabilities in developing and delivering technology solutions to support our customers’ vital processes which in turn contribute to a more sustainable world. Through close cooperation with Everfuel and NEL, who are innovators in the development of green hydrogen infrastructure, we provided a compression solution which seamlessly integrated into Everfuel’s hydrogen production infrastructure, helping to provide a competitive and sustainable alternative to other more carbon intensive energy sources. “

The facility setup is non-contaminating and has redundancy, meaning that the electrolyser facility will be able to operate on partial load, even if one compressor is out for maintenance. The Howden compressors are designed for low maintenance and high availability. Hydrogen compression typically represents the biggest share of maintenance cost for electrolyser facilities.

When fully operational in mid-2022, the Fredericia facility will have a production capacity up to 8 tons per day of green hydrogen, made from renewable wind power, with 10 tons of storage capacity. Everfuel is responsible for the EPC-work (engineering, procurement and construction), including storage and distribution facilities.

“We have an experienced Everfuel team working on optimizing the facility layout. The close cooperation with Howden to improve the total electrolyser installation confirms the additional value we can generate by assuming EPC responsibility. Howden and Everfuel intend to make this solution a standard offering for 20MW installations with low pressure electrolysers, and we are exploring the possibility of expanding the cooperation to potentially include up to 100MW electrolyser solutions as well, which would fit well with the three units we are considering for the planned Phase II development at HySynergy,” said Jacob Krogsgaard.

Everfuel’s total investment for developing the Fredericia facility is estimated at around EUR 20 million, which is approximately 50% financed by public Danish and EU funding programs. Everfuel has a 10-year offtake agreement with the Fredericia refinery for base load hydrogen offtake for use in the refinery process. The remaining hydrogen will be utilized in Everfuel’s expanding distribution and fueling network.

Everfuel joins effort to make the Triangle Region in Denmark a European hub for green fuels
Herning, Denmark, 12 February 2021 – Everfuel A/S is pleased to announce its participation in a cooperation developing a European hub for green fuels in Trekantomraadet, or the Triangle Region, made up of seven municipalities on the Danish peninsula of Jutland. Everfuel’s HySynergy project in Fredericia, expected to be operational from mid-2022, is a leading facility in the hub and planning for the Phase II expansion is well underway.

The cooperation, which includes a group of energy and technology companies, plan to develop industrial scale Power-to-X (PtX) facilities for green hydrogen made with renewable energy and further processing into ammonia and methanol for use as green marine and aviation fuels. In addition to Everfuel, also companies such as COWI, Orsted, Vattenfall and the Frederica refinery have joined the cooperation.

“Our HySynergy Phase I 20MW electrolyser under development adjacent to the Fredericia refinery is an initial core asset for the green fuels hub. With HySynergy Phase II we plan to take it to the next level with a 300MW electrolyser, scheduled to be operational by 2025, making the Triangle Region one of the leading PtX hubs in Europe”, said Jacob Krogsgaard the CEO of Everfuel.

HySynergy Phase II is expected to produce green hydrogen for zero-emission mobility and as refinery input, but production of ammonia and methanol as PtX products is also being considered. The Fredericia location is central in the Triangle Region area, making it a lead project for this shared public and corporate initiative.

“Together we can develop the industrial solutions required to decarbonize society and enable zero-emission mobility. We look forward to the cooperation and to make our home region a Northern European beacon for green fuels through developing Power-to-X production facilities at scale”, Jacob Krogsgaard added.

The initial focus will be to formalize the cooperation. The municipalities and companies will create a project group to lead the joint efforts as well as seek public European and Danish funding supporting the green transition activities.

Zoals Everfuel, Nel, PowerCell Sweden, Hexagon Purus (alle 4 Scandinavie) of in Plugpower, FuelCell Energy, Ballard Power Systems (alle 3 USA).
