www.renewi.com/en/investors/newsroom/... Mattresses make circular dreams a reality We are helping to recycle millions of old mattresses into furniture filling, gym floors and more as part of our vision to be the leading waste-to-product company. Our investment in RetourMatras, which creates secondary products by recycling mattresses, has allowed the firm to significantly expand its capacity to process them. RetourMatras already has two plants in the Netherlands, which recycle 600,000 mattresses each year. This joint investment by Renewi and Ingka Group enables RetourMatras to build a third recycling plant, in Zeeland, and increase annual processing capacity by more than 50%: now one million mattresses a year can be recycled across the three locations, which goes a long way to tackling the Netherlands’ waste mattress problem – around 1.5 million mattresses are thrown away there every year. RetourMatras removes metal parts, textiles and foam from the mattresses, which are used as secondary products in sports mats, gymnasium floors, soft playground surfaces and furniture filling. Around 90% of the mattress materials can be recycled, and the remaining 10% are used to create energy. All of which means a contribution to the circular economy that we can be proud of. Renewi’s investment was accompanied by a similar one made by Ingka Investments (part of the Ingka Group, which includes the 12 IKEA stores in the Netherlands). Our involvement is, however, more than financial. Our Renewi trucks will be transporting containers of up to 100 discarded mattresses at a time, from hotels, care homes, cruise ships and governmentowned accommodation, to RetourMatras. Repurposing one 40m3 container of mattresses, rather than incinerating them as waste, saves 533kg of CO2. For RetourMatras’s recycling output of one million mattresses a year, this means a CO2 saving of 48kg of CO2 equivalent per mattress annually. As Renewi CEO Otto de Bont puts it: “This collaboration fits perfectly with our role as a connecting link in the circular economy.” “THIS COLLABORATION FITS PERFECTLY WITH OUR ROLE AS A CONNECTING LINK IN THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY” Renewi CEO Otto de Bont

Suez seeks alternatives to Veolia's offer for stake By Reuters Staff september 10, 2020 PARIS (Reuters) - French waste and water management group Suez on Thursday reiterated its opposition to Veolia’s offer for Engie’s stake in the company, and said it was looking at alternatives. “The board of directors of Suez affirms its full support to the management team to execute and accelerate the Suez 2030 strategic plan and to explore alternatives to Veolia’s proposal that are in the interests of the group and all its stakeholders,” the group said in a statement. Veolia offered on Aug. 30 to buy a 29.9% stake in Suez from French gas and power utility Engie for 2.9 billion euros ($3.4 billion), saying it aimed to create a “world champion of ecological transformation”. “The board of directors of Suez met yesterday and, after a thorough review, unanimously concluded that the hostile approach announced by its competitor Veolia on Aug. 30 2020 is against the best interests of Suez and all its stakeholders,” it said. A spokeswoman for French private equity firm Ardian told Reuters that Ardian was talking to both Suez and Veolia. “Ardian is talking to all parties but there is absolutely no concrete operation under way ... there is no deal signed with anyone, neither Suez nor Veolia,” the spokeswoman said. She was speaking after business newsletter Lettre A said Ardian and Anti Infrastructure Partners could help Suez engineer an alternative offer for Engie’s stake in Suez. French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Wednesday he will meet soon with Suez management over Veolia’s plan to take over the group. The blessing of the French government is key for any deal, as the state holds a 23.6% stake in Engie. On Sunday Suez head Bertrand Camus dismissed Veolia’s offer to buy a stake as “disastrous” for France, telling daily Le Figaro this was an “opportunistic financial operation”. The offer undervalued Suez assets and “underestimates competition issues and execution risk”, he said. Reporting by Dominique Vidalon, Benjamin Mallet; Editing by Clarence Fernandez and David Evans

Suez Management Working On Alternative to Veolia Bid, Varin Says By Rudy Ruitenberg/Bloomberg 13 september 2020 Suez SA management, led by Chief Executive Officer Bertrand Camus, is working on an alternative to Veolia Environnement SA’s bid for the French water and waste-treatment company, supervisory board Chairman Philippe Varin said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche. Varin said work on an “alternative solution” is in progress with the backing of the board, declining to provide further details. Suez has rejected Veolia’s takeover bid as “particularly hostile,” while largest shareholder Engie has dismissed the offer for its stake as too low. French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has said Suez must remain mostly owned by French interests should alternative bids arise. “The state has been clear on the French dimension of the solution,” Varin told Le Journal du Dimanche. “Bertrand Camus and his teams are in charge.” Camus has rebuffed Veolia’s takeover approach, saying it undervalues Suez and risks running into antitrust obstacles. Varin said Veolia’s plan threatens jobs at Suez, and will “massively” reduce competition in France. Veolia last month offered 2.9 billion euros ($3.4 billion) for Engie’s stake in Suez, proposing to buy the 29.9% holding for 15.50 euros a share in cash, with a plan to follow up with a bid for the remainder of Suez. The French government, which owns 24% of Engie, has said it will make the preservation of jobs at Suez and its French industrial footprint the top priority. French private equity firm Ardian has entered discussions with both Suez and Veolia regarding the proposed sale of Engie’s stake in Suez, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a spokeswoman for the firm.
