    Baggeraar Van Oord schrapt 500 banen

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Baggerbedrijf Van Oord schrapt 500 banen naar aanleiding van de coronacrisis, om gezond te blijven en de concurrentiepositie te versterken. Dat maakte het Rotterdamse bedrijf dinsdag bekend.

    De pandemie heeft een grote impact op het internationale bedrijf, met druk op de markt in de baggersector en sterk gedaalde olie- en gasprijzen waardoor er minder offshore-activiteiten zijn.

    Dit heeft geleid tot een omzetdaling en slechtere resultaten, aldus Van Oord.

    Wereldwijd wordt een afname van ongeveer 500 arbeidsplaatsen voorzien als gevolg van de reorganisatie, waarvan 120 middels een collectief ontslag in Nederland.

    Gesprekken met de Nederlandse vakbonden zijn opgestart.

    Van Oord Selects BAUER Spezialtiefbau for Piling Works for Saint-Brieuc Offshore Wind Farm

    The Dutch marine contractor Van Oord awarded German specialist foundation company BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH to install 190 bored piles at 62 locations for 3-legged jackets, as well as one substation location consisting of a 4 legged jacket foundation. Van Oord will start the offshore operations in 2021 with the installation of the bored piles using its offshore installation vessel Aeolus. The Aeolus will be assisted by a second vessel in 2022 to install jackets foundations. The commercialization will start in 2023.

    BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH is going the provide and operate the drilling and grouting operations for the subsea operation, including the use of three newly designed BAUER Dive Drills DD 40 U, which will work simultaneously up to 47 m penetration depth in a rock structure up to 160 MPa and in a water depth of up to 37 m. Finally, onboard of OIV Aeolus Bauer will execute grouting operations to fix the 190 bored piles at the drilling location.

    Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm will be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany and one of the first in France to obtain all the necessary government permits for its construction and operation. It will be built on an area of 75 square klometers and comprise 62 turbines with a capacity of 8 MW each. So in total, the wind farm will have a capacity of 496 MW. Located approxiimately 16 kilometers off the French coast, the wind farm will produce 1,820 GWh per year, the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 people including heating.

    Iberdrola group, in collaboration with French companies RES and Caisse des Dépôts, both belonging to the consortium Ailes Marines of Iberdrola, has finished the first phase of construction of the project: analysis of the technical and environmental conditions of the site. This first step involved installing three wind measurement systems in the area where the farm is located and which have recorded the wind power potential in the area during the last two years.

    Saint Brieuc will also have Spanish involvement since its 62 jackets, the structures that support offshore wind turbines, and their corresponding piling will be entirely built by Navantia-Windar in Fene in Coruña and Avilés in Asturias, respectively. The final assembly of all component parts will be completed at the Galician shipyard facilities.

    The Dutch marine contractor Van Oord has been selected to transport and install the 62 jacket foundations and offshore substation. Van Oord will start the offshore operations in 2021 with the installation of the pin piles and the offshore substation. To do so, it will deploy its offshore installation vessel Aeolus, which was purposely built to construct offshore wind parks. The Aeolus will be assisted by a second vessel in 2022.

    Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will be making the turbines for the wind farm, 207 metres high each. They will be equipped with state-of-the-art direct drive technology and their blades, measuring almost 82 metres in length, will deliver a swept area that is 18 % larger than the previous model along with 20 % higher annual power production compared to their predecessor. The Saint-Brieuc wind turbines will be built in France, at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's bespoke industrial facility, located in the port of Le Havre, where blades, nacelles and generators will be fabricated.

    On the other hand, submarine connection cabling systems will be provided by Prysmian Group. Prysmian will install and commission 90 km of 66 kV alternating current high.voltage connection cabling and three XLPE insulation hubs. The cable hubs will be manufactured at the group's centres of excellence in Montereau-Fault-Yonne and Gron in France and will be assembled and finished in Nordenham in Germany, providing the French market with locally produced, state-of-the-art Prysmian cabling. The system is expected to be up and running by the end of 2022.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) ING heeft het koersdoel voor het aandeel CFE fiks verlaagd van 108,00 euro naar 61,00 euro met handhaving van het Houden advies. Dit bleek woensdag uit een analyse van de bank.

    De bank motiveert het nieuwe koersdoel met zijn ramingen voor 2020 en 2021 voor onder andere de bedrijfskasstroom (EBITDA) en de daarmee samenhangende ratio's voor de bouw- en baggertak.

    ING verwacht dat het bouw- en baggerbedrijf zich de komende kwartalen geheel richt op het openhouden van bouwplaatsen en op de kasstroom om zo de in de ogen van de bank hoge schulden te kunnen verlagen.

    Tot nog toe zijn er niet veel baggerprojecten stopgezet, terwijl de bouwtak van CFE in het tweede kwartaal volgens ING wel hard geraakt werd door de coronamaatregelen in België.

    Voor het gehele boekjaar verwacht ING een EBITDA voor CFE van 342 miljoen euro, met een nettoschuld van 859 miljoen euro. Aangepast voor IFRS zijn de bedragen respectievelijk 316 miljoen en 756 miljoen euro.

    Daarmee komt CFE op een schuldratio van 2,4. Een veilig niveau, oordeelde ING, mits zich geen onverwachte projectverliezen voordoen.

    Op een rode beurs in Brussel zakte het aandeel CFE woensdag 0,8 procent naar 59,00 euro.

    Jan De Nul Starts Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm Pin Piles Transportation

    Formosa 2 Offshore Wind FarmJan De Nul Group has started transportation of the pin piles for the 376 MW Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm. The first batch of 26 pin piles was loaded on the transportation vessel BBC Onyx at EEW SPC’s facilities in South Korea and offloaded in the Formosa 2 marshalling port of Taichung in Taiwan. Jan De Nul Group subcontracted EEW SPC for the supply of all 194 pin piles needed for the Formosa 2 Project. EEW SPC started fabrication in January at three different yards in South Korea and Malaysia. This first pile delivery, one of eight batches in total assigned to the German BBC Chartering, is a significant milestone given the COVID-19 outbreak and its severe impact worldwide. All the pin piles will be stored in Taichung Port until foundation installation commences later this year.

    With Taichung Port being the logistics and operations hub for the Formosa 2 offshore wind farm project, Jan De Nul Group continues its partnership with Taiwan International Ports Co Ltd following the successful cooperation on the Formosa 1 Phase 2 project. For the port operations, Jan De Nul Group collaborates with Belgium-headquartered Sarens and a team of Taiwanese suppliers including its long-standing partner Hung Hua Corporation, Ta Jia International Co Ltd, Jin An Logistics International Co Ltd and the Glory Shipping Agency Corporation.

    Developed by Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, JERA and Swancor Renewable Energy Company Ltd., and located between four and ten nautical miles off Miaoli County, the 376 MW Formosa 2 OWF will have 47 Siemens 8 MW turbines on jacket foundations in up to 55m water depth.

    Jan De Nul Signs Contract with Dogger Bank Wind Farm

    Dogger Bank Wind Farm and Jan De Nul Group announced the signing of the final contract for the transport and installation of the GE Haliade-X offshore wind turbines at Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B, 130 km off the Yorkshire coast, starting in 2023. Turbine delivery and installation at the first two phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm will be the first assignment for the world’s largest Offshore Jack-Up Installation Vessel owned by Jan De Nul Group, the Voltaire.

    The 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which is being delivered in the North Sea in three 1.2GW phases, is set to be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when complete and is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor. When complete, Dogger Bank will generate enough energy to power over 4.5 million homes every year – around 5% of the UK’s electricity needs.

    Dogger Bank Wind Farm secured 3.6 GW of offshore wind contracts in the UK Government’s 2019 contracts for difference auctions. Record low prices were awarded for the three projects making up Dogger Bank Wind Farm: Dogger Bank A, Dogger Bank B and Dogger Bank C. Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B are now moving towards final investment decision, expected by the end of 2020. SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm and Equinor will lead on operations for its lifetime of at least 25 years, creating around 200 jobs in the North East.

    This vessel, currently under construction, will have a lifting capacity of over 3,000 tonnes and will enter into service in 2022.

    DEME mag kabels leggen voor groot windmolenpark op zee

    ZWIJNDRECHT (AFN/BELGA) - De Belgische baggeraar en maritiem dienstverlener DEME heeft het contract in de wacht gesleept voor het leggen van onderzeese kabels voor een windmolenpark voor de kust van Groot-Brittannië. Het windpark in aanbouw heet Dogger Bank offshore en wordt volgens DEME het grootste windpark op zee ter wereld.

    Het gaat om de aanleg van 650 kilometer kabel en de productie begint in 2021. Wanneer het windmolenpark af is moet het genoeg energie opwekken om elk jaar meer dan 4,5 miljoen huizen van stroom te voorzien. Dat is zo'n 5 procent van de elektriciteitsbehoefte van het Verenigd Koninkrijk.

    BRUSSEL (AFN) - De Belgische baggeraar DEME heeft zijn orderboek in de eerste helft van het jaar tot recordniveau zien aandikken. Dat kwam onder meer door het binnenhalen van een aanzienlijk contract in Rusland, zo valt op te maken uit een handelsbericht van moederbedrijf Ackermans & Van Haaren.

    De orderportefeuille groeide tot 4,3 miljard euro per eind juni, van 3,4 miljard eind maart. In december vorig jaar lag het niveau van het orderboek nog op 3,7 miljard euro. De omzet van het bedrijf kwam in de eerste helft van het jaar uit op iets meer dan 1 miljard euro. Dat was een jaar eerder nog 1,3 miljard euro. De winst kelderde fors, van ruim 44 miljoen euro naar 15,5 miljoen euro.

    DEME had flink last van de coronapandemie. Dat leidde, net zoals bij branchegenoten, vooral tot moeilijkheden bij het wisselen van bemanningen. Projecten verliepen minder efficiënt en er was sprake van vertragingen met leveringen. DEME benadruk dat "bijna geen enkel project" werd stopgezet of uitgesteld. Ook de sterk gedaalde olieprijzen en een ongeval met een installatieschip, dat daardoor niet meer kon worden ingezet, drukte op de prestaties.

    Turbine Installation for TPC Offshore Wind Farm Kicks Off

    Jan De Nul’s Offshore Jack-Up Installation Vessel Taillevent successfully installed for Taiwan Power Company the very first Hitachi turbine onto its jacket foundation. With the first wind turbine installation completed, the project team will proceed with the commissioning process, along with the final termination of the subsea cable inside the tower. The TPC Offshore Wind Farm near Fangyuan, eight kilometres off the West coast of Taiwan, will comprise in total 21 units of 5.2 MW wind turbines, each installed on a jacket with transition piece, anchored to the seabed by four steel pin piles.

    The project, in particular the wind turbine installation campaign, has suffered significant delays due to restrictions and new regulations implemented by authorities in Taiwan and around the globe as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The TPC Offshore Wind Farm is constructed in a region where typhoons are very common. Consortium partner Hitachi Ltd. pioneered this design by obtaining the Wind Turbine Class T certification, an international standard on wind-resistant design recognising the need in regions subject to frequent typhoons.

    The turbines are being installed by the Taillevent, specifically designed for the transport and installation of offshore wind turbines and foundations. The vessel measures approximately 140 m in length and is equipped with six spuds. She has an on-board crane with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes and an auxiliary crane of 50 tonnes.

    Jan De Nul Group started the construction works for the offshore wind farm back in September 2018 with the preparatory onshore cable duct installation works to connect the existing onshore sub-station to the cable interface near shore. In 2019, fabrication of the different components was initiated. In April 2020, the first foundation components were readied for transportation from the South Korean fabrication yards to the offshore windfarm area. In June 2020, Jan De Nul Group installed the first pin piles and connected the first export cable to shore. And by early August, Jan De Nul Group installed and anchored the very first jacket foundation to the seabed.

    Jan De Nul Group is responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of the foundations, the provision of the offshore vessel for the installation of the wind turbines, the supply and installation of the cables off- and onshore as well as upgrading an electrical substation. Hitachi Ltd. is in charge of manufacturing, assembly, installation and other works related to the offshore wind turbines with downwind rotor.

    Subsequently, the Consortium is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the offshore wind farm over five years.

    Van Oord Takes Share in Saare Wind Energy

    Following agreement between the parties, Van Oord is now a shareholder in Saare Wind Energy. Saare Wind Energy is developing the Saaremaa offshore wind farm in Estonia. The collaboration with Van Oord allows Saare Wind Energy to intensify the development process for this offshore wind farm, as financial support and knowledge are combined. Saare Wind Energy has extensive knowledge of local conditions and the environmental impact assessment. Van Oord, being an experienced offshore wind contractor, has been involved in several early developments of offshore wind farms.
    Saaremaa offshore wind farm

    Saare Wind Energy is developing an area of up to 200 square kilometers south-west of the Estonian Island Saaremaa. The area could facilitate an offshore wind farm of over 1,000 MW. The development of the wind farm started in 2015. The Estonian government decided in May 2020 that Saare Wind Energy can proceed with the location permit procedure and the associated Environmental Impact Assessment. In January 2020, Saare Wind Energy and Van Oord agreed to cooperate on the Saaremaa offshore wind farm project. The Netherlands Embassy in Tallinn and the Estonian Investment Agency supported the initiative for this collaboration.

    The Saaremaa offshore wind farm location offers an unique opportunity for a hybrid project. The combination of good wind resources, an offshore wind location in line with the Marine Spatial Plan and the opportunity to develop interconnectors across the Baltic Sea to Sweden and Latvia, give Estonia the opportunity to take first steps in implementing the vision of the Baltic Sea declaration.

    RWE Chooses Van Oord for Sofia Offshore Wind Farm

    RWE has advanced the development of Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. The company has selected the international marine contractor Van Oord as the preferred supplier for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the monopile foundations and array cables, for one of the world’s largest offshore wind projects. The 1.4 Gigawatt Sofia is sited on Dogger Bank in the central North Sea 195 kilometres from the North East coast, where Van Oord, through its UK-branch MPI Offshore, will create a logistics hub to deliver the comprehensive scope of work.

    Van Oord will deploy its offshore installation vessel Aeolus to install the 100 extended monopile foundations without transition pieces, while the 350 kilometres of array cables will be installed by the family-owned firm’s first cable-laying vessel Nexus. The company will sub-contract the fabrication of the foundations and array cables.

    Van Oord worked closely with RWE on the construction of the Rampion, Humber Gateway, Robin Rigg and London Array offshore wind farms. Sofia brings the opportunity to further develop UK supply chain relationships, evolve construction techniques, and optimise the design of the foundations, which will be supporting some of the largest turbines currently on the market.

    Onshore construction will get underway at Sofia’s converter station site in Teesside early next year. Work on the foundation and array package is set to begin after the project’s financial investment decision in Q1 2021, with installation scheduled for 2024.

    This foundation and array cable news now completes the main packages for Sofia with preferred supplier agreements already in place with Prysmian Group for the project’s HVDC export cable; a consortium of GE’s Grid Solutions and Sembcorp Marine for its HVDC transmission system, and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, set to supply the wind farm with its most advanced 14 Megawatts (MW) offshore wind turbines.

    Sofia wind farm is 100% owned by RWE, the second biggest player in offshore wind globally and the UK's second largest generator of electricity.

    Van Oord Celebrates Borssele III & IV Offshore Wind Farm

    Borssele III & IV, one of the largest offshore Dutch wind farms, has reached full commissioning. Located 22 kilometres off the Dutch coast and the Province of Zeeland, the wind farm is capable of powering 825,000 Dutch households with renewable electricity. The construction of the 731.5 MW wind farm, with in total 77 MW turbines was completed on-time, with official commissioning on 6 January 2021. As the Balance of Plant contractor for the Borssele III & IV offshore wind farm, Van Oord was responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the foundations and inter array cables together with the installation of 77 turbines of which the last was installed in November 2020. Cable installation vessel Nexus and trencher Dig-It completed the installation and burial of more than 170 kilometres of inter array cables.

    The Blauwwind consortium consisting of Partners Group, Shell, Diamond Generating Europe, Van Oord and Eneco, won the tender at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs in June 2016. The wind farm is part of the offshore wind roadmap drawn up by the Dutch government. Financial Close was achieved in June 2018, and the first monopile was installed in October 2019. The wind farm is connected to the Borssele Beta platform, built and operated by TenneT, which converts power from 66Kv to 220 kV and transports it to the onshore electrical substation at Borssele. The connection was completed in July 2020. The 731.5 MW wind farm will supply renewable energy accounting for up to 2.3% of total Dutch electricity demand.

    Vattenfall Awards Van Oord 4-year O&M Framework Contract

    Van Oord has been awarded a 4-year Operations & Maintenance contract by Vattenfall. Working through its MPI Offshore organisation, Van Oord will provide jack-up and associated lifting services for main component exchanges across Vattenfall’s portfolio of offshore wind farms. The contract includes planned and unplanned maintenance campaigns for approximately 600 Vattenfall wind turbine generators. The parties both have the option of extending the contract for another year.

    Vattenfall is a market leader in offshore wind, with 10 offshore wind farms in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. During the contract period, its offshore portfolio will be extended to 622 turbines with a combined capacity of 2.6 GW. Wind power is a growing pillar in Vattenfall’s strategy. Its ambition is to operate 15 GW of commissioned offshore wind capacity by 2030.

    Baggeraars voeren strijd tegen Chinese concurrentie op

    ROTTERDAM (ANP) - De Europese baggerindustrie, waarin Nederlandse bedrijven Van Oord en Boskalis belangrijke partijen zijn, voert de strijd op tegen de concurrentie uit China. Dat zegt ceo Pieter van Oord van het gelijknamige bagger- en offshoreconcern in het FD.

    Die actie is volgens Van Oord nodig omdat Chinese baggeraars voor het eerst inschrijven op projecten in Europa terwijl Europese baggeraars geen toegang krijgen tot de Chinese markt. Ook beschuldigen de Europese baggeraars de Chinese concurrenten van prijsdumping.

    Europese baggeraars verhogen de politieke druk op Brussel en Berlijn nu blijkt dat Chinese concurrenten willen meedoen aan aanbestedingen in Duitsland en Polen. Van Oord: "Dat zou niet mogelijk moeten zijn. Het is voor Europese baggeraars namelijk onmogelijk om in China opdrachten te krijgen."

    Chinese staatsbedrijven worden volgens de Europese baggeraars zwaar gesubsidieerd. "Daardoor kunnen zij onder de kostprijs inschrijven. Het is een klassiek patroon dat we nu ook in de baggerindustrie zien. Het is bedoeld om de bestaande industrie weg te vagen," aldus Van Oord.

    Bagger- en offshoreconcern Van Oord heeft vorig jaar voor het eerst in zijn bestaan een hogere omzet in de offshore wind behaald dan in de baggerdivisie, de oorsprong van het familiebedrijf. De bouw van windmolens op zee floreerde, terwijl de baggermarkt verder onder druk stond.

    Dit blijkt uit de resultaten over 2020 die Van Oord dinsdag heeft bekendgemaakt. De omzet van de baggertak daalde met 13% naar €598 mln. In 2019 was er al sprake van een 19% lagere omzet.

    'De daling is onder meer te wijten aan de teruggang van investeringen in de olie- en gasindustrie', aldus ceo Pieter van Oord in een toelichting. 'Daarnaast werden er door de coronapandemie aanbestedingen vertraagd of stopgezet. Bovendien hebben we in de baggermarkt al langere tijd te maken met de opkomst van Chinese staatsbaggerbedrijven.'

    In de offshore wind steeg de omzet met ruim 10% naar €632 mln. Het operationele resultaat in deze tak steeg sterk, aldus het concern. Van Oord ziet voor deze activiteit nog grote groeimogelijkheden. 'In de komende vijf jaar gaan we dan ook €1 mrd investeren, met name in offshore wind', zegt van Oord. Zo moet er een nieuw kabellegschip bij komen.

    De ceo van het concern wijst hierbij op de Europese ambities in windenergie op zee. In 2050 zou er in heel Europa voor 250 GW aan capaciteit moeten staan tegen 20 GW nu. In het Nederlandse deel van de Noordzee zou het vermogen moeten groeien van 2GW naar 30GW. Verder verwacht Pieter van Oord meer opdrachten uit Azië en de VS.

    Ondanks de druk op de resultaten door de coronacrisis wist het concern de brutowinst (ebitda) met €226 mln redelijk op peil te houden, vergeleken met de €254 mln een jaar eerder. De kosten gingen omlaag, onder meer door een reorganisatie waarbij 800 banen werden geschrapt. Voor 2021 wil de ceo met de onzekerheden over het verloop van de pandemie geen verwachting uitspreken over de winst.

    Stabiele orderportefeuille
    Van Oord wist de orderportefeuille vorig jaar stabiel te houden op €3,6 mrd, evenals de omzet (€1,7 mrd). 'Dit jaar zal de portefeuille groeien', aldus de ceo. Zo is de opdracht van RWE voor de bouw van een windpark op de Doggersbank (waarde tussen de €500 mln en €1mrd) nog niet verwerkt in de portefeuille.

    Ondanks de teruggang in omzet in de baggermarkt, heeft Van Oord er vertrouwen in dat deze activiteit zal groeien. Als het ergste van de coronapandemie achter de rug is, zullen de aanbestedingen volgens hem weer los komen. Bovendien zal de bevolkingsgroei, de verstedelijking en de klimaatverandering de baggermarkt stimuleren, is de overtuiging van Van Oord.

    Winst Van Oord loopt nog meer deuken op

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Van Oord heeft de winstgevendheid ook in 2020 verder zien dalen nadat deze in 2019 ook al onder druk stond. Dat bleek dinsdag uit de jaarcijfers van het Rotterdamse bedrijf.

    De omzet liet in 2020 nog een stijging zien van 1.644 miljoen naar 1.677 miljoen euro, "ondanks de impact van herstructureringskosten en incidentele kosten". De nettowinst daalde daarentegen van 46 miljoen euro naar 33 miljoen euro in 2020.

    Operationeel daalde het resultaat (EBITDA) over het afgelopen boekjaar eveneens, van 254 miljoen naar 226 miljoen euro.

    Het bedrijf kende verder aan het eind van het boekjaar een operationele kasstroom van 476 miljoen euro en een nettoschuld van 307 miljoen euro.

    De orderportefeuille was ruim 3,5 miljard euro groot, wat wel iets minder was dan aan het einde van 2019.

    Outlook

    Van Oord verwacht met name een geleidelijk herstel van de baggeractiviteiten en van de offshore olie- en gasmarkt, waarvan de gevolgen waarschijnlijk pas in 2022 voelbaar zijn.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) DEME wordt verdacht van miljoenencorruptie in Rusland en het parket van Oost-Vlaanderen wil de baggeraar voor de correctionele rechtbank brengen. Dit schreef de Belgische krant De Tijd vrijdag.

    DEME bevestigde de kwestie tegen de krant, maar voegde toe "dat de raadkamer geen uitspraak doet over de grond van de zaak. Ze oordeelt alleen over de vraag of er voldoende bezwaren zijn om een zaak ten gronde te laten beoordelen door de bevoegde rechter. DEME behoudt het volste vertrouwen in het verdere verloop van de procedure".

    DEME wist in het verleden een contract binnen te halen waarin ook Jan De Nul interesse had, en mocht daardoor tussen 2014 en 2017 baggerwerken uitvoeren voor de aanleg van een toegangskanaal naar de haven van Sabetta in de Siberische Noordpoolregio, aldus De Tijd.

    De toekenning van het contract gebeurde na de vermoedelijke betaling van miljoenen euro's aan steekpenningen.

    Jan De Nul Halfway through Installation of Kriegers Flak Wind Farm

    On 27 January, Jan De Nul, Siemens Gamesa and Vattenfall successfully installed the very first wind turbine for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm. The last turbine is scheduled to be installed in mid-June, approximately 4.5 months after the start of this installation campaign.Bert Reynvoet, Project Manager of Jan De Nul Group for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm said "We are proud that we can tick off this milestone nicely on schedule. All 72 wind turbines must be installed within a period of 4.5 months. Our customer's wishes are paramount and despite the challenging winter weather conditions in the Baltic Sea, COVID-19 and challenging soil conditions for our jack-up installation vessel, we have managed until today to strictly adhere to the installation schedule. Thanks to the commitment, flexibility and professionalism of our co-workers!”

    For the first time since its expansion in 2018, the port of Roenne on the Danish island of Bornholm is serving as marshalling harbour for the construction of an offshore wind farm.

    The components of the Siemens Gamesa wind turbines are delivered from Denmark’s mainland. In Roenne, the various parts are assembled. In sets of four wind turbines, they are loaded on board Jan De Nul’s jack-up installation vessel Vole au vent, after which the vessel sails to the offshore installation site off the Danish east coast.

    Jan De Nul Bags Next Dredging Phase Contract from Payra Port

    Payra Port Authority and Jan De Nul Group have signed a contract to kick off the next phase in the port’s development plans. For this contract, which is worth half a billion euro, PPA and Sonali Bank reached financial close in May 2021 with support from Bangladesh’s Infrastructure Development Fund. The agreement is the result of 5 years of preparations and development planning together with PPA, after both parties entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2016. The dredging works will start immediately and will take approximately three years to complete. Jan De Nul will mobilize several dredgers to perform the capital dredging works, deepening the ports channel from the current 6.3 mCD to 10 mCD. After completion, Jan De Nul vessels will stay to maintain the depths in the channel.

    PPA and Jan De Nul have been working closely together for the development of Payra Port since a few years now. Last year, Jan De Nul dredged the initial opening of the Rabnabad Channel to a depth of 6.3 mCD. This dredging campaign allowed for the start of increased sea-bound activities to and from Payra. Since end 2020, the Jan De Nul vessels Diogo Caõ and Henry Darcy are maintaining the depth of 6.3 mCD in the Rabnabad Channel under a follow-up contract signed with the PPA.

    In the meantime, large civil infrastructure works on land are continuing to unlock the Payra Port region to the Dhaka capital.

    72 Wind Turbines for 604 MW Kriegers Flak Wind Farm Installed

    Jan De Nul Group installs a total of 72 wind turbines of 8.4MW each on behalf of Vattenfall Denmark. All together, these turbines will produce enough green electricity for the annual needs of approximately 600,000 Danish households. Approximately 4.5 months after the start of this installation campaign in January, Jan De Nul, Siemens Gamesa and Vattenfall deliver the 604 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.

    The geographical location of the offshore wind farm offers extremely heterogeneous soil conditions with large lateral variability and boulders on the surface and below. Despite that, Jan De Nul managed to successfully deploy a Jack-Up Installation Vessel for the installation works.

    In 2017 and 2018, Jan De Nul Group already designed, built and installed two large Gravity Based Foundations for the offshore high-voltage substations of this new offshore wind farm. Jan De Nul built both concrete structures of 8,000 and 10,000 tonnes on a floating pontoon in the port of Ostend (Belgium) and then towed them to Denmark. In the Baltic Sea, the crane vessel Rambiz installed both foundations on the seabed with the utmost precision.

    The works have always been on schedule, thanks to the great teamwork! We are very proud to have helped Denmark in this giant leap in their energy transition.
