    Zal niet zeggen hoeveel ik heb verloren maar je had er een zeer mooie auto van kunnen kopen....

    Na een week protesten te hebben gevolgd, begrijp ik ze denk ik. Natuurlijk zal een ieder een argument gebruiken. De een is gewoon een dief, de ander zal politiek Antifa steunen, de grootste groep komt voor de rassen ongelijkheid, zo dacht ik. Nu na een week zie ik het anders, er is volgens mij een veel grotere groep die protesteren tegen de wijze waarop ze behandelt worden door politie. Dit optreden is niet stiekum, dus voor de politie volkomen normaal gedrag. De autoriteit zonder tegenspraak is niet wat Amerikanen willen. Dat is geen freedom. Dat blijkt video na video. De mensen zitten gewoon gevangen. Waar ze de burger moeten beschermen en moeten toe zien op hoe de wet wordt nageleefd, hebben ze zichzelf alvast boven de wet gesteld. Ik ben bang dat je niet graag in aanraking komt met de politie in de USA. Je zou bijna een onderzoek willen doen, trekt de politie juist dit soort mensen aan ? of worden de agenten door hun omgeving zo totaal vervreemd van hun samenleving ? Als je bij ons bij de politie wil, moet je wel een test afleggen als daaruit blijkt dat je nogal aggresief, trigger happy bent, word je niet aangenomen.

    Obama heeft het probleem serieus willen aanpakken.

    Heeft zelfs een task force opgezet om hervormingen bij de politie door te voeren.

    Er is eerst een onderzoek gedaan, waarop aanbevelingen uit zijn gekomen.

    Het zit zo diep geworteld in het politie korps dat het invoeren van veranderingen moeizaam gaat.
    Er is veel weerstand binnen het politie korps.

    In the wake of two black men killed in officer-involved shootings, President Obama reminded the nation in a Thursday night speech that his White House has already taken steps to help improve relations between police and communities.

    “Last year, we put together a task force that was comprised of civil rights activists and community leaders, but also law enforcement officials — police captains, sheriffs,” the President said. “And they came up with specific recommendations and steps that could ensure that the trust between communities and police departments were rebuilt and incidents like this would be less likely to occur.”

    That group, the White House Task Force on 21st Century Policing, was created in the wake of a spate of officer-involved killings of black men in 2014, and a year later it released a lengthy report calling for more data on police-involved shootings, better assessments of community attitudes toward police, and the removal of incentives on police practices like arrests and convictions. But while the task force’s recommendations have indeed been embraced by some of the nation’s law enforcement, its effects have been noticeably limited.

    According to a one-year update by the Task Force, at least nine states and municipalities have taken significant steps to implement their recommendations and law enforcement agencies in every state have in some way grappled with reform. In May 2016, 15 police departments signed on to join the “Advancing 21st Century Policing Initiative.” However, those successes are a drop in the bucket for the task force considering there are 18,000 police departments in the United States.

    Even President Obama mentioned his frustration with the slow pace of change even as he praised the task force’s suggested reforms. “Change has been too slow and we have to have a greater sense of urgency about this,” the President said Thursday.

    Banenrapport onverwacht lichtpunt voor economie VS

    - De werkloosheid in de Verenigde Staten is in mei gedaald tot 13,3 procent. Volgens het Amerikaanse ministerie van Arbeid kwamen er in de grootste economie van de wereld vorige maand ruim 2,5 miljoen banen bij ten opzichte van april. Daarmee deed de economie het veel beter dan verwacht.

    Economen hadden in doorsnee juist rekening gehouden met een verlies van 7,5 miljoen banen, waarmee de werkloosheid zou oplopen tot bijna 20 procent. In april was er een banenverlies met een herziene 20,7 miljoen arbeidsplaatsen te zien in de VS, met een werkloosheid van 14,7 procent. Dat was het hoogste niveau sinds de Grote Depressie.

    De Amerikaanse economie wordt hard geraakt door de crisis omdat veel bedrijven de deuren sluiten en personeel massaal op straat zetten. Inmiddels hebben al ongeveer 42 miljoen Amerikanen een werkloosheidsuitkering aangevraagd. De Amerikaanse overheid heeft enorme steunpakketten aangekondigd om de crisis het hoofd te bieden. De beperkende maatregelen tegen het coronavirus worden bovendien geleidelijk versoepeld, wat de arbeidsmarkt in de VS kan helpen te herstellen.

    Trump bezoekt vandaag Maine

    Donald Trump will be in Maine on Friday for a tour of a medical swab manufacturer in Guilford and a discussion in Bangor with commercial fisheries stakeholders.

    Here is what we know about his itinerary, as detailed by White House officials on a conference call with Maine reporters on Thursday.

    Trump will arrive in Bangor around 1:50 p.m. for the fisheries discussion. Air Force One is scheduled to land at the Bangor International Airport.     He lacks the character, maturity and judgment to lead the country in a perilous time.
    You have never been a good president, but today your shortcomings are unleashing historic levels of suffering on the American people.

    Your slow response to the coronavirus pandemic has spun a manageable crisis into the worst public health emergency since 1918.

    We are also in the middle of the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. There is no national strategy to recover from the shock that is disproportionately affecting people who were already struggling to make it.

    And in the face of the worst civic unrest since 1968, with millions of Americans in the streets protesting systemic racism, you fan the flames.

    In just the last week you gleefully tweeted about shooting fellow citizens; you goaded governors into escalating violent situations so they don’t “look like jerks;” and you authorized the use of rubber bullets and tear gas to clear peaceful protesters out of a public space so you could pose for a Bible-waving photo-op.

    These are just a few examples of why you lack the character, maturity and judgment to lead our country in this perilous time. You should resign.

    We have to agree with you on one point: You were right to skip making an address to the nation as other presidents have done in times of national emergency.

    You correctly concluded that you have nothing to say that would make the situation better. When what’s called for is compassion, clear vision and a commitment to lead, you are out of ammo.

    But bringing the nation together in times of distress is a big part of the job when you are head of state. You can’t do it, so you should resign.

    As head of government, you have unmatched power to direct resources to relieve suffering. You can’t or won’t do that, either, so you should resign.

    And in your mistreatment of lawful protesters and abuse of religious symbols, you have violated your oath to protect and defend the Constitution, so you should resign.

    Your supporters will no doubt say that this is an election year, and it should be left up to the voters to decide whether you deserve to stay in office.

    But ask yourself – can this country take five more months like the last five? You are a president supported by a minority of the people, and your only path to victory in November is to further divide the nation. This campaign could do even more lasting damage than you have done already.

    We know that you are not much of a student of history, but you recently said that you “learned a lot from Richard Nixon.”

    That’s good, because he set the historical precedent for what you should do now.

    In a nationally televised address, Nixon said that he knew that he was about to be impeached over Watergate, and he wanted to fight the charges.

    But since that would be destructive to the nation he served, he chose instead to resign. Nixon said: “By taking this action, I hope that I will have hastened the start of that process of healing which is so desperately needed in America.”

    America needs to heal again. Please resign now, and let us begin.

    In deze draad - begin vorige maand - begon iemand over zijn/haar turbo's short in o.a. BA. Die positie werd kennelijk beïnvloed door Trump tweets. Dat het bergafwaarts zou gaan met het bedrijf en de koers was kennelijk reden om je enorm te verheugen als je op dat moment met turbo's short zat.

    Het leek mij een signaal dat er teveel 'dumb money' (even oneerbiedig uitgedrukt) short zat in BA. Nu is sindsdien de koers met ongeveer 60% gestegen, en dat leek me echt even het vermelden waard. Ook omdat het zo exemplarisch is. Al heb je er wel gelijk in dat deze draad over Trump gaat.
