    FDA grants emergency approval for remdesivir to treat coronavirus patients
    Dr. Barry Zingman, from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, on the 'compelling' test results using remdesivir to treat COVID-19.

    Biotech CytoDyn wants to trial its potential coronavirus treatment leronlimab in combination with the antiviral remdesivir.

    Leronlimab is a viral-entry inhibitor that has targeted HIV and breast cancer. The drug also has been attracting attention as a potential coronavirus treatment, particularly to quell the so-called “cytokine storm,” when COVID-19 has caused the immune system to go awry.

    CytoDyn recently announced that leronlimab has delivered “strong results” in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

    EXPERIMENTAL CORONAVIRUS TREATMENT LERONLIMAB RESULTED IN 'REMARKABLE RECOVERIES,' DEVELOPER SAYS

    In a statement released on Monday, CytoDyn announced that it will be submitting a protocol to the FDA for a trial comparing the effectiveness of leronlimab versus Gilead Sciences' remdesivir and in combination with remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

    “We believe the randomized head-to-head comparison of leronlimab to remdesivir and in combination will provide answers to the lingering question regarding effective treatment options for patients suffering from COVID-19,” said Jacob Lalezari, M.D., CytoDyn’s chief science officer, in a statement.

    Gilead’s remdesivir has been garnering massive attention, with the FDA recently authorizing emergency use of the drug to treat coronavirus patients after an early clinical study delivered “positive data.”

We think inflamation is being driven by RANTES, the same immune chemical that's driving the entire illness of Covid-19 and is the "master switch" that we have been very fortunate with Leronlimab to shut down. After all the testing we have done with more than 800 HIV patients and with cancer and with covid-19 now, we can say there is no real serious adverse effect we can point to from Leronlimab.

    Dr. Pourhassan:
    Heard in the news Gilead will have 300K doses of Rem for patients this year. We have 1.2M to be delivered at the end of June or early July from Samsung Biologics alone and can ensure having more... two or three times that once we get good information from the FDA and what they think of our results.

    When do you plan to submit this trial design?
    Shooting for the end of this week or end of next week... we're working hard on all other avenues; we have so many other things we're doing right now.
    He was happy with Dr. Patterson's two-hour presentation last night and explanation of how well Leron is working.

    Alles valt samen: deze merkwaardige vergelijking met Remdesivir (waar komt deze idiote trial vandaan, die Remdesivir in de schaduw zal stellen?), fase 2 mild/moderate resultaten midden juni, resultaten van de analyses van alle bloedmonsters van de P2 en P2b/3 trials (unblinded P2 midden juni) en de grote hoeveelheden Leronlimab eind juni om de wereld te bedienen.

    Ik hoop alleen dat Gilead niet met een miezerig bod komt.... (maar dat kunnen we altijd weigeren :).)

    Ja, gewoon 120 potjes die kant op. Genoeg patiënten in Mexico! En bij goede resultaten zet de NIH Mexico de FDA in haar hemd. Brazilië is de volgende? Geweldig om te zien dat de hegemonie van de FDA op vallen staat.

    The study is anticipated to consist of approximately thirty patients with potential involvement of the NIH of Mexico in other CytoDyn trials

    VANCOUVER, Washington, May 19, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CytoDyn Inc. (CYDY), (“CytoDyn” or the “Company”), a late-stage biotechnology company developing leronlimab (PRO 140), a CCR5 antagonist with the potential for multiple therapeutic indications, today announced it will be coordinating with the NIH of Mexico and providing leronlimab for a trial for the severe/critical COVID-19 population in Mexico with the potential to collaborate on further CytoDyn COVID-19 trials.

    CytoDyn is currently enrolling a Phase 2b/3 clinical trial for 390 patients, which is a randomized, placebo-controlled with 2:1 ratio (active drug to placebo ratio). CytoDyn is also enrolling a Phase 2 randomized clinical trial with 75 patients in the mild-to-moderate COVID-19 population. CytoDyn has been granted more than sixty emergency Investigational New Drug (eIND) authorizations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and plans to provide clinical updates for this patient population later in the week.

    Hahaha, fantastisch hoe de FDA onder druk gezet wordt! Clinical trial verzoek om rechtstreekse vergelijking met het door de FDA (op niets berustende) geliefde Remdesivir. Nu kans dat Mexico Leronlimab als eerste goedkeurt!

    Hoe verkoop je aan het Amerikaanse publiek dat je altijd van het bestaan van Leronlimab hebt geweten, maar er ondanks veiligheid en effectiviteit ervoor gekozen hebt om dit product bijna maximaal te dwarsbomen?
    DT spuwt vuur als blijkt dat Mexico met de eer strijkt door een Amerikaans(!) product als eerste te erkennen dat levensreddend is en de weg opent naar ‘het gewone leven’. Internationale lof voor Mexico en niet voor de USA; dat kan natuurlijk niet! ;)

    Deze druk moet de FDA gaan voelen. We kunnen op zeer korte termijn weleens spectaculaire acties van de FDA gaan zien.

    - They don’t believe the EIND results should be ignored
    - They will use the EIND data along with a small Critical trial and hopefully grant approval
    - Mexico FDA is somewhat more relaxed than the US version
    - Confidential Disclosure Agreement (CDA) already signed
    - Protocol is the same as FDA trial
    - Will be translated and immediately submitted to their FDA

    In other news:
    - 10 new Cancer Basket Trial patients will be injected in the next 30 days
    - Also starting a Cancer Basket Trial in Taiwan

    Wel een tegenvaller: nog geen, respectievelijk maar 7 extra patiënten in respectievelijk de mild/moderate (45/75) en severe (32/390) studie.

    Nieuws van het vaccin (virus-)front:

    Universiteit van Oxford (Europese subsidie), Moderna (Amerikaanse subsidie), Pfizer / BioNtech (Amerikaanse en Europese subsidie en eigen geld) lijken allemaal toch niet zo goed op weg als werd voorgesteld…

    Farmareus AstraZeneca heeft $1 miljard gekregen van de Amerikaanse overheid voor de ontwikkeling van een coronavaccin. Dat zou al in september klaar moeten zijn.

    Het ontwikkelen van een vaccin verloopt conform de voorspelling dat het moeilijk gaat worden ondanks de nieuwe mRNA methode.

    Eerder hadden we al geconstateerd dat een vaccin te laat komt – als het al wordt gevonden. Een gevonden vaccin zal de noodzaak van Leronlimab niet overbodig maken.

    Nieuws van het virusremmer- en/of medicinale corona-behandeling-front:

    Voorspeld werd door de medische wetenschap dat dit nog moeilijker te maken is dan een vaccin. Echter de proefpersonen hoeven niet gezond te zijn zoals bij het vaccin maar kunnen strijdend voor hun leven geen keus hebben. Vandaar de eIND onderzoeken.

    Er blijkt verwarring te zijn bij medici over het gebruik van Remdesivir.

    Mochten de Covid-19 onderzoeken van Cytodyn in de Amerikaanse ziekenhuizen moeizaam vollopen dan is dat een veeg teken. We horen hoop ik 26e meer.

    Het begint tot de hele wereld door te dringen dat de Cytokine-stormen, het ongeremde afweersysteem een groot probleem is bij de behandeling van Covid-19 patiënten. Ik hoorde gisteren RTL-nieuws zelfs reppen van het op hol geslagen afweersysteem, alsof het een kudde gnoes betreft.

    Naast de opgezwollen longblaasje en longontsteking lijden veel patiënten ook aan trombose.

    CCL5/Rantes wordt door Patterson omschreven als een quarter back, een soort laatste man in het voetbal elftal, in de strijd tegen het binnendringen van virussen via de ‘antenne CCR5’. Patterson geeft toe dat er meer ‘players bij betrokken zijn zoals critici opmerken. Patterson doet deze dus af als een soort (verdedigende) middenvelders. Het gaat om de laatste man.

    Ik vraag me af of hierin de reden ligt dat er niet al publicatie is geaccepteerd? Misschien hebben ze een werkend medicijn waarvan niet precies duidelijk is hoe het werkt?

    Wat mij in ieder geval opvalt is dat ie hier metaforen gebruikt terwijl ie meestal vrij exact en technisch uitlegt.

    Ik ben benieuwd wat er 26 mei gezegd wordt. Het is wel weer snel. Ze voeren een strijd op het heetst van de snede.

    Het gaat helaas slomer dan sloom. De FDA zal nul moeite doen om het traject van de kogel ook maar iets te polijsten. Voordat we data hebben gebeurt er niets. En met de trage uitrol van de mild/moderate fase 2 studie verwacht ik zelfs voor eind juni geen positief nieuws van de FDA. En de EMA volgt blind de FDA (zie ook de twijfelachtige "goedkeuring" van Remdesivir eerdaags). Met een beetje pech vraagt de FDA zelfs eerst nog een grotere fase 3 in mild/moderate voordat er toestemming komt.

    Leronlimab's grootste kans is in Mexico. Daar kunnen ze in een paar dagen de test met 30 patiënten in "severe" uitrollen. Dan nog een paar weken opvolgen, eventueel EUA in Mexico?

    I would love it: Mexico first, America second!!!

    En waarschijnlijk Nederland vijftigste of zo iets. (die "medewerkers" van het RIVM liggen te slapen, zijn alleen maar met hun modelletjes aan het prutsen).
